Upgrade from Final Cut 6.6 to 7

I have upgraded my operating system to Mavericks and find that Final Cut is running renders very slowly.  Is Final Cut 7 an upgrade or does one have to buy the whole package? Is it likely that Mavericks doesn't operate well with older programs? Any insights appreciated.
Catherine

The simple answer to your question is no.  FCP 7 was discontinued by Apple in June, 2011 and is no longer supported ... especially on any OS that was released after FCP 7 was discontinued.
That said, if you can find a used upgrade copy of Final Cut Studio 3 (which includes FCP 7), you can try it.  It seems to work for some people; others have problems.  There was never a stand alone upgrade of just FCP 7 - when it was available you had to purchase the Studio package.  However, once you have that, you can choose to just upgrade the apps you want from the install discs.
Other options include running your current FCP version on an older Mac with an older OS (e;g.; 10.4, 10.5, 10.6) or you could switch to Adobe Premier.

  • How can I upgrade from Final Cut Pro X 10.0.4  to 10.0.7

I need to upgrade from Final Cut Pro X 10.0.4 to 10.0.7 but can not find how to do this. Can anybody help?
    Thanks.

You might do some web searching on "FCPx  torrent ".  I would think that if you have a legitimate copy of FCPx there would be no legal/moral issue with pulling down a 10.0.7 version via bittorrent, but I'm not a lawyer. And of course there are other issues relating to such software but as Tom implies, you can't get an older version from Apple so you'll have to find somebody, somewhere with a 10.0.7 copy that you can install.

  • Can you upgrade from Final Cut Pro 3 to Final Cut Pro Sudio 2 with upgrade?

Does anyone know if you can upgrade from Final Cut Pro 3 to Final Cut Pro Sudio 2 with $699 upgrade?
I purchased Final Cut Pro 2 years back and then purchased the Final Cut Pro 3 upgrade. I have not used it in years, but now I want to upgrade to Final Cut Studio 2. Is this possible by just purchasing the upgrade?

Apple's web page has the requirements:
    http://store.apple.com/AppleStore/WebObjects/BizCustom?qprm=78313&productLearnMo re=MA886Z/A
The $699.00 upgrade version requires a valid serial number from a commercial version of Final Cut Studio, Production Suite, or Final Cut Pro 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5. Academic and not-for-resale versions are not eligible for this upgrade.

  • Upgrade from Final Cut Express to Pro 5.0

I think I made a stupid mistake. I purchased Final Cut Pro 5.0 upgrade thinking I could upgrade from Final Cut Express. But when I am asked to enter the previous versions serial number, it does not accept it. Is there any way to do this or am I going to have to buy the full version of Final Cut Pro?
Also, I have a G4 Powerbook with the following specs. Is it going to run the program if I do finally get it installed?
    CPU Speed: 867 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
    Memory: 640 MB
    Bus Speed: 133 MHz
    NVIDIA GeForce4 MX

To upgrade from FCE you need the Final Cut Pro 5 Upgrade from Final Cut Express. I just upgraded FCE and that worked fine for me.
Hope this helps answer your question...

  • How do I upgrade from final cut 5.1 to final cut 5.1.4?

I wanted to upgrade from final cut studio 5.1 to 5.1.4 because it doesn't recognise my camera JVC HD111E or the format I have used 730p 25 frame. 5.1 codecs are extremely limited. However my Mac doesn't see that I need this update when I go to software update. Downloaded it from idisk public folder after advice from apple support but this won't install. Have tried other ways such as buying a Lumiere HD plug in but this doesn't work either. Please help!

Welcome to the discussions, saiga. From Wales, eh? Lovely country, that.
You've registered the software, right? And you've not moved any programs or renamed them? Have you tried re-installing FCP?

  • Final Cut Studio 2: upgrade from Final Cut Express HD

I'm guessing I know the answer to this question already, but I'm hoping someone will tell me I'm not correct. Is there an upgrade path from Final Cut Express HD 3.5.1 to Final Cut Studio 2? I don't see one listed on the software page in the Apple store. Seems ashame if there isn't. I'm sure there are other FCE HD owners out there who would like to upgrade rather than starting over for the tune of $1299.
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

And it's well worth it. you can recoup a little of
your cost by uninstalling fce and selling it.
What's required in order to sell it? Can the registration be transferred to a new owner?

  • Is there any way to still upgrade from final cut 5 to final cut 7 using my original serial number?

    Hi there,
I had my macbook pro 15inch(2010 model) stolen a week ago. I was running on Snow Leopard, and I used Final Cut 5.
I am a bit out of touch with how much the technology and upgrades have changed (don't chastise me for it!), and have discovered that any new laptop I buy will come with the Mavericks operating system, which obviously won't allow my FCP5 to run.
I have also been told that I can't simply upgrade to a newer version of FCP, but that I would have to purchase the entire suite again, and that would mean purchasing FCPX, which I would prefer not to buy because of all the changes that it brought to the program.
First of all, is it standard procedure to have to purchase entire suites all over again once each new version is brought out? I was under the impression that once purchased, you could upgrade, seeing as you had made the commitment of spending the money in the first place. Apologies if this is a terribly daft question, but I would appreciate the assistance!
Secondly, if I don't want to upgrade to FCPX, does anyone know if there is a way to still upgrade to FCP7, either by purchasing it or updating it using my serial number details from FCP5? I bought it legitimately and I'm trying to find out if there is a way to avoid spending thousands all over again!
    Your help would be appreciated:)

It been a while, but I believe you just need the serial number of FC 5 for the FCS 3 installer. If I were you, I would verify that over at the Final Cut Studio forum before purchasing the update disks.
I just checked Amazon and there is a $600 difference in the update and full versions; they list (one) unopened upgrade boxed set at $795 while an unopened set of the full version currently is proced at $1295 (a $300 premium over the price Apple used to charge!).
Something you might want to ponder: the question of how much to invest in a suite of software that is no longer being supported by Apple. Even though I'm able to run FCP 7 and its related  apps largely without issues on Mavericks, who knows how long or well that will work in the future?
Also, if you're at all curious about whether the changes you mentioned in FCP X are value-added or not, you can always download the trial version and find out first hand. If you do, invest a little time with some of a few tutoirals offered by by a variety of highly regarded FCP X intructors. You might be pleasantly surprised.
    Good luck.

  • Upgrading From Final Cut Pro 5 to 6 - can you use full install disk?

    Hi,
I have one MacBook Pro running Final Cut 6 (with Final Cut Studio 2), and another one running Final Cut Pro 5 (with Final Cut Studio). We're looking to upgrade the second one to Final Cut Studio 2.
Does anyone know if the upgrade can be done with the disks from the full install box of Studio 2, using the product key from an upgrade? We happen to be in the middle of East Africa at the moment, so shipping is an issue...
    Thanks

You CAN install Final Cut Studio with only the upgrade disk set BUT you will need the product key for BOTH the Final Cut Studio 2 AND the previous version.
After you insert the Final Cut Studio 2 upgrade installation disk you will first be asked to input the product key for the upgrade version and then after you will be requested for the product key of the previous version.
After this, the installation process does NOT require any disks from the previous version of Final Cut Studio.

  • Can I upgrade from Final Cut Pro 6 to Final Cut Pro X?

    HI,
I am trying to budget up expenses to upgrade both of these machines. Unfortunately, I sense that I have to scrap my G-5 Pre-Intel
tower for one that is Intel, and can go through the Lion phase, as will my Macbook Pro laptop.   I have been pretty skimpy by only
upgrading Photoshop (CS 4) and Final Cut Pro (6.06; though I have the entire suite from 2007), and may have to continue doing so unless I can
imagine buying the entire Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and the entire FCP suite as well. I know that I can upgrade on the Photoshop from 4-6 but I am not finding anything that tells me that I can upgrade FCP from 6-X.
    Any comments?

There is no upgrade from FCP6/7 to X.  You have to either stay with 7 or buy X for $299.  Either way, an upgrade woud cost the same.
Trust me, X is well worth it and I dont miss 7 one bit.

  • Upgrade from Final Cut Pro HD 4.5 ??

I bought my PB used about 3 years ago. It came with a lot of application some I still haven't used. I noticed that I also have Final Cut Pro HD 4.5 . Is there an upgrade to this software and if so which one? I saw a lot of different kinds. Since Im a noob to the software is there any books or websites that can help me to start using this program? Thanks

Pop the FCS 2 install disk in your drive. When you run the installer it will ask for the FCS 2 serial #. This is the number on the front of the document "Installing Your Software"
It will then prompt that the serial is an upgrade #. Enter the serial of your full version -in this case, the number that came with FCP 4.5 HD.
Install the FCS suite and enjoy.
Apple Discussions tip: I think it is fantastic that you have used the search function of AD to find a related issue. Kudos.
But... If you tag your question onto the end of an older discussion, it will receive less attention.
Particularly if the discussion has already been marked as solved. In this case, please feel free to use the "Post New Topic" button at the top left of the main FCP page.

  • Upgrading from Final Cut Express and have some questions

    Hi All,
I just ordered Final Cut Studio, but I am working on a project in FCE right now and I'm wondering if I can just continue it with FCP, or would there be problems with that? I'm too advanced on the video part to just redo it, but I have barely started on the audio part so that one I could start over.
Also, I'm hoping the software will come with a printed manual, but I'm not holding my breath since the price has recently gone down... in that case, is there a good book on Final Cut Studio that explains how to use the different elements?
Thanks in advance for any hints.
    Florence

I MAY HAVE BEEN TOO HASTY IN MY DISMISSAL OF THE FCP 7 "BOOKLET"!
Last night I had another look at the FCP 7 booklet and have come to the conclusion it is not as useless as I at first thought.
True, it is very basic and only deals with FCP7 BUT it is surprising how many of the "basics" I have forgotten or never knew.
After 5 years with the app and having developed my own techniques and (bad) habits, I tend to think I know more about the app than I actually do!
The booklet is really a mini-tutorial and comes with a very small amount of media you can work with, including a small section on sound editing, which you may or may not already know.
As mentioned above, it only covers FCP 7, but (depending on your existing level of expertise) I think you may find it a useful read on your train journey to work.
The booklet, "FCP 7 . . . . . Exploring Final Cut Pro", together with sample video files, can also be downloaded as a PDF from here:-
    http://documentation.apple.com/en/finalcutpro/
Comprehensive PDF manuals for all the apps can be downloaded as well.
