Upgrade from PSE8 to Photoshop or CS4: question

I'm confused about something. I have PSE8 for Mac. I would like to get Photoshop. Does this mean I have to get CS4? Is there a standalone Photoshop without all the other Creative Suite things?
Also I can't pay $700. Anyone know of any deals, or bundling with a Wacom tablet? (I'm not affiliated with any educational institution).
Thank you -

Photoshop CS4 is available as a "stand alone" application. But like was said, you won't find any real good deals like you mentioned, that are legal (as in not pirated).
Actually, it may be possible to find a 'good deal'--not through a normal commercial vendor and I would certainly stay away from eBay/Craig's List/etc. for a purchase of Photoshop CS4.  It is just too easy to get a pirated copy.
I don't know how often it happens but I myself was in the position of having a legal copy of Photoshop CS4 that I no longer needed.  I had PSCS4 on my iMac for quite some time and also had CS4 Design Premium on my PC.  I finally bit the bullet and moved 100% to the Mac so I transferred the CS4DP package to the Mac platform via Adobe which meant I no longer had a need for the stand alone Mac version of Photoshop CS4.
If you have any computer/photography clubs in your area you might check there.  It is possible you may find someone who is no longer using their licensed copy of CS4 who would be willing to go through the Adobe License Transfer process which would enable you to have their copy officially placed in your name.

There are no problems running CS4 if your computer meets the system requirements.
The only "issue" will be money issuing from your wallet!

  • I just upgraded from PSE8 to 11 and can't find my catalog to convert.

I just upgraded from PSE 8 to 11 and can't find my catalog to convert.  I watched the Manage My Catalog  instruction video, but my old catalog doesn't show in the box.  When I browse the DATA1 and DATA11 files in my PSE 8 folder the dialog box does not recognize them as catalogs.  I assume the catalog is one of these file, since they contain over 16,000 entries, which is how many photos I had in PSE8.
What am I missing?  How do I find and convert my old catalog?

Sometimes catalog conversion fails. It’s often a question of needing full permission settings and the easiest way to make it work is as an administrator directly from the desktop which bypasses the welcome screen background processes.
Make a shortcut for organizer as follows:
On Windows right-click anywhere on the desktop and choose New >> Shortcut
    Browse to Computer OS C:
Find the PSE Organizer application in Program Files or Program Files (x86) on Windows 7 - 64 bit.
    C: >> Program Files (x86) >> Adobe >> Elements 11 Organizer
Within the Elements 11 Organizer folder find the application PhotoshopElementsOrganizer (not Photoshop Elements 11.0)
Select (highlight) PhotoshopElementsOrganizer and click Next
    Then click Finish.
Now right-click on your new desktop icon and choose “Run As Administrator” Then authorize by clicking yes in the User Account Control dialog.
    From the Organizer menu click:
    File >> Manage Catalogs
    Then click the “Convert” button
Select your desired catalog from the list of previous versions of PSE to highlight it then click the “Convert” button down below it
You should receive a message when the conversion has been successfully completed and your earlier catalog will be automatically re-named. Choose the new name from the list and click the “Open“ button and you are good to go.

  • Upgrading from 15" MBP to 13" MBP (questions on Adobe CS/Microsoft)

    Hi there,
I have an existing MBP 15" running Snow Leopard that I use for work. I will be purchasing a new 13" from Apple which has Lion to replace my work computer. However, I will be keeping my 15" and would like to upgrade that to Lion (will purchase the Lion software). In addition, on my 15" I have Adobe CS4 and Microsoft Office 2008. I have purchaed the upgrade to Adobe CS5.5 and the new Office 2011 (finally with Outook) which I intend to use on both computers (this is all within the license agreements - installing on 2 computers used by the same user, but not running at the same time).
I basically want the 15" and 13" to mirror each other. I know I can do this with Migration Assistant, but I have questions on the way to prep the computers first before doing so (mainly my concern is tranferring Adobe CS programs versus installing them from the CDs and trasnferring from a Snow Leopard OS to a Lion OS). If anyone has any advice on the options I've listed below, I would really appreciate it. I also plan to post to the Adobe and Microsoft forums but thought I would start here first.
Option 1: Is it better to first upgrade EVERYTHING on the 15" and then use Migration Assistant to tranfser everything including apps to the 13"? This means on the 15", first upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion, then install the upgrade to Adobe CS5.5, install Office 2011 (transfer from Entourage email to Outlook) and then transfer everything to 13" new computer.
Option 2: Should I only upgrade the 15" OS to Lion and then transfer all the apps as is (Adobe CS4/Microsoft Office 2008) to the 13"? After the tranfsfer, then on both computers, I would install from the CDs the Adobe CS5.5 upgrade and Microsoft Office 2011.
Option 3: Should I just transfer everything as is (without upgrading first) from the 15" to the the 13"? This means after the transfer, on the 15" I would install Lion, then CS5.5 upgrade, then Office 2011 from CDs. Then on the 13", I would install from the CDs Adobe CS4, then CS5.5 upgrade, then Office 2011 (I don't really need 2008 on the 13" as this will be my work computer that I need Outlook for).
I'm also wondering in general regarding Entourage to Outlook if is better to do that transfer of email on my Snow Leopard computer first or Lion or does it really matter?
    Thanks so much in advance!

    Mid 2009 to 2011...
Will be a good test whether I/O trumps pure processing. Now, if the OP lucks out and gets the 13" when this year's iteration comes out (Ivy Bridge), then I'll raise the white flag and accept "upgrade".

  • Upgrade from suite to Photoshop standalone

This relates a little to another post, I've just read that I can't upgrade from an in-suite version of Photoshop to a stand-alone version, this really is rubbish, not only are Adobe screwing non US users but they're tying everyone in to ridiculously expensive upgrades every couple of years, this must, surely, just encourage people to get pirate software, this is bad. Roger

    >You got the deal for the Creative Suite because you agreed you would give up the stand alone license.
My company buys the software, so I don't really mind. But the original poster is evidence that not everyone "agreed" to it. Buyer beware I guess, but I still haven't had my question answered:
Why shouldn't a user be allowed to pay an upgrade price so that they can get a new serial number for just the app he/she wants?
I'll dare to answer that, since nobody else seems to want to... because it would be far too generous for the corporation to offer a deal on the suite (and increase their user base for other apps that they didn't have before!) and then also offer the flexibility of upgrading as the user wishes. They knew they'd be getting their money back on the back end, when people are forced to upgrade (as they often are in the prepress industry), so they really weren't being as all warm and cuddly as they first seemed.
Back when CS was first introduced, threads had to be started in the user forums informing people of the "lock-in" and the general tone of the threads was that nobody realized this was the case, until someone read the fine print and posted what they discovered. Also at that time, it was mentioned that there would inevitably be people who got caught in the deal without knowing what they were getting into. That's why we have this thread.
In short, I was never a fan of the CS marketing scheme, or things that turn out to be more hindrances to the user than to pirates like activation schemes.

  • Upgrading from CS3 Web Standard to CS4 Web Premium problems

So I got my CS4 Web Premium upgrade box in the mail yesterday.  I'll be starting a big project in about a week or so and figured I'd do the install and familiarize myself with the enhancements and play with PS, as it has been a while.  Anyway, I drop the first of the install disks into my XP Pro SP3 laptop and off I go.  I enter the serial number for the CS4 which checks good.  Hit next at which point it looks for a previous install of a CS product and does not find one.  No problem, I think to myself, as there is a space to enter the previous version's serial number.  Enter the serial for the previous version (CS3 Web Standard) which results in a no go in resolving the number.  The tool suggests I go back and install the trial version and then deal with the issue with Adobe support.  Has anyone else experienced this issue and if so could you please share your experiences and/or resolution path?

I did my homework on this one and purchased the "Upgrade from Creative Suite 3.x" offering.  The CS3 works like a champ.  When I attempt to do the install of CS4 I get the error message when I enter the CS3 serial number.  Any thoughts, guidance or suggestions are welcomed.  I'm resistant to going the trial version route for fear that I'll not get resolution in time and have my project impacted.  I can probably get by with Fireworks, but PS is preferred and the driving reason for the upgrade.  Thanks!

  • Upgrading from PSE8 to CS5, Albums, tags & mini bridge ?

Will my albums and tags from Elements 8 transfer to the mini bridge of CS5? Is there anything I can do to make this happen
or will I have to start over? Thanks!

  • Can I upgrade from Ilustrator 10 To Illustrator CS4?

    Hello,
Do any of you know if I can upgrade from adobe Illustrator 10 to Adobe Illustrator CS4?
I talked to one person in adobe customer service and she said yes, but I just want to make sure that I can do this without any problem, I thought maybe one of you already has done this upgrade.
I looked in the adobe CS4 Upgrade page and only shows CS, CS2 and CS3 and Freehand but nothing about Illustrator 10.
That's why I would like to double check before purchasing  CS4 Upgrade.
I appreciate any info you may provide.
    Thank You!
    Albis C

    Albis,
Check my answer from this querry:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2242359#2242359
You can buy an unregistered copy of Illustrator upgrade CS or CS2 and Adobe will honor the upgrade policy, they are very good at that. Finding one on eBay is easy and if you use sellers who use PayPal you will avoid the rip-off artists. But since the demand is low and the selling prices are reasonable you can expect to upgrade to CS or CS2 quite reasonably with very few fears of loosing your money. Then, when you want to upgrade to CS 3 or CS4 you be on the upgrade path and eligible to do so.
    Hope this helps.

  • Upgrading from 5.1 to 5.2 question

We are currently testing 5.1.0.44.2.  Due to design problem in 5.1.0.44.2 that would allow us to implement the product with the wildcard functionality we have in 4.2, we werent able to roll this into production.  Had we known about this deficiency, we wouldnt have ordered the product.  After multiple TAC calls, we found out that a future release/update would have the wildcard function we needed.  Otherwise, we are looking at a significant configuration change to close to 500 devices firmwide.
I have been looking for the info on upgrading and dont see a clear path.  Do I download the FCS ISO for 5.2 and the latest patch to start with ?  Since we never went to production, is there an upgrade path that allows me to keep the installed license or do I just blow out what we have and then replace the license ?  Since we have smartnet on this, I am assuming that our existing license from 5.1 should work on 5.2 or will I need to get a new license from Cisco Licensing ?
    Thanks,
    Ron

    Base on the release notes
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/datacenter/sw/5_x/nx-os/release/notes/52_nx-os_release_note.html#wp423588
You need to upgrade to 5.1.(3), and from there, the upgrade to 5.2.7 is supported using ISSU i assume. Worst case, the system will prompt you the the upgrade going to be distruptive or not before proceeding with the upgrade.
But in release note 5.1(X), it did not mentioned that upgrading from 5.1(2) will be distruptive or not since 5.1(2) has been deffered.
    Thanks

  • Upgrade from Tiger to Leopard: Boot Camp Question

I am considering upgrading from 10.4.11 to Leopard. I am using (still) the Boot Camp Beta program and have a considerable amount of data stored in my WIN partition. The Apple web site has this to say:
+Already running Boot Camp? Even easier.+
+If you’re already working with Boot Camp Beta, you’re practically finished before you start. All you need is some new drivers. To install them, simply start up your Mac in Windows and update the drivers from the Leopard DVD.+
Am I to understand from this that I can upgrade to Leopard without having to wipe clean my HD first? I can keep the partition intact with all the data on both the Mac and Win sides? If this is true, then I am REALLY going to consider this upgrade? All along I felt that I would lose everything on the HD and have to reinstall it all. At this point I do not want to do that.
I am looking for feedback from folks in my situation who have upgraded and/or Apple techs that know folks who have done this.
Furthermore, once the switch was made, would I then have some control over the resizing of the partition?

    Hi NoBite;
While I agree with William as far he went with his answer, I think there is a bit more to this then what he said. While it is true that only the Erase & Install will wipe out all the data, the other methods can wipe the data if the wrong thing such as a power failure happens at the wrong time. Hence the reason I alway suggest having a bootable clone before any major undertaken with you system.

  • Upgrade from PSE8 question

Im thinking of upgrading to CS5.My question is how do I move my filters like topaz and NIK color efex from PSE to CS5, or do I have to reinstall both.

Time was you could just move .8bf files around, but many modern plug-ins are no longer self-contained in a single file, and may require special registry entries and access that the installer sets up.
Your best bet is to install them again into Photoshop CS5.

  • Want to upgrade from Tiger to Leopard and have questions...

I recently purchased an Airport extreme after my previous router/wifi unit went up in smoke. Had to use the PC with XP to set it up as the iMac has 10.4.11 and I supposedly need 10.5.x to setup the airport with the iMac. From reading the upgrade specs and system requirements, it appears I have no issue upgrading... just have to find a copy of Leopard. There in lies my question, as copies are no longer available from Apple (per what I was told at the store, and don't see them on the web), if I buy a copy off ebay or Craig's list, unless I can find a brand new sealed box.... do I take the chance of buying a copy that somebody installed, and now the serial number is registered and therefore is no good anymore? How does that work, is the serial number of the software registered to the machine serial number and once used, the disk is worthless on another computer? I realize that there are "family" copies and developer copies with what, 5 licenses and unlimited? What about the standard "retail" package, once it's installed it's worthless to anybody but the person that originally used it?

There is no serial numbering/registration. This is not Windows. You are on your honor.
You always take a chance purchasing from eBay and Craig's List in as much as most of these sellers do not know what they are selling and/or miss-represent the item. Can't tell you how many folks come here trying to install an OS unsuccessfully only to find out that they bought a machine specific OS version that the seller swore would work on their Mac.

  • Upgrading from CS2 Danish vers. to CS4 English possible??

    HI
I have CS2 in a Danish version, and want to use some plugins that require an English version. So I thought about upgrading to CS4 English version. Anyone who knows if that is possible at all?? Or do I have to buy the full English version? I'm waiting at adobe supportline now for 1hour 39 mins, so I'd thought I'd ask here...
    Thanks in advance...

    madcap1974 wrote:
Yeah that's what I mean. I paid a bit more to get the Danish version some time ago, but I'm wondering what an upgrade would do. So the question is if an upgrade requires the original language to be the same as the upgrade.
Yes. Sorry, I meant you need a cross-language upgrade, which can only be done via Adobe Customer Service

  • Upgrade from CS3 in Windows to CS4 in Mac

I am currently running Adobe CS3 Illustrator and Photoshop.
At present I am using this on a Windows platform but am very intersted in converting to a Mac.
I would like to know if I can just upgrade my software from Windows to Mac and pay the smaller upgrade fee for the software, rather than paying for brand new software from scratch.
I am doing this through work and I am trying to get exact costs etc so that I can forward over to my boss.
    Hope somebody can help.
    Cheers

You need to contact Adobe Customer Service. At one time, I changed platforms (in the other direction) while purchasing an upgrade. But I don't know what Adobe's policy is. This is a user-to-user forum. For business purposes, you'll have to contact Adobe to make it happen anyway.
