Upgrade from Safari 1.3.2 on OS 10.3?

Hi,
I got my old iBook back into service by performing different hard- and software upgrades... It's now running 10.3.9, and I performed all Software Updates that came up on the Update program. Safari is still v. 1.3.2 though. I understand that Safari 3 might require OS 10.4, but was there never a Safari 2 for OS 10.3. I found no trace of it on the Apple-website.

Safari is still v. 1.3.2 though
Yes, that is the final version of Safari for Panther.
Safari 2 runs on Tiger up to 10.4.9, Safari 3 runs on both Tiger from 10.4.10 onwards, as well as Leopard.

  • Just upgraded from Safari to Maverick, but pop-up informed me that Mav does not support Microsoft word or excel.  What's up with that?

Just upgraded from Safari to Maverick, but pop-up informed me that Microsoft Word or Excel will not run on OS X Mavericks.  What's up with that?  Should I click accept or ok?
I assume this is the latest Mav OS...so the version would be 10.9.2?  It was suppose to be a free download from Apple.

If you do not want to spend a lot of money on buying the latest Office you can get most or all of what you need from LibreOffice which is free. http://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/

  • How do I upgrade from Safari 1.3 on a PowerBook G4 OS X 10.3?

I need to upgrade from Safari 1.3, but the only links I can find aren't working, and I can't find a software update for this when I click on Software Updates from the apple icon. I have a PowerBook G4 with an OS X 10.3 operating system. I recently tried to access a link someone sent to gallery.mac.com, and it won't support my Safari version.
    thanks.

    Hi Barbara,
I too run os x 10.3.9 Panther and Safari 1.3.2.. It really annoys me that WINDOWS users have the option to run Safari 3.0.4 but Apple users running Panther do not have that
ability and or option, that said.
    Using Firefox Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8.1.12) Gecko/20080201 Firefox/2.0.0.12
I entered gallery.mac.com in google search and tried the first hit, it was someone's specific gallery.mac.com site ... those photos loaded for me on Firefox.
So if you have a specific address to a users gallery it seems it will load in Firefox.

How do you upgrade from Safari 5.0.6 to Yosemite?

Back up your data, click here, and read the entire page. Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC software such as Microsoft Office 2004; some other installed software may also be incompatible.

  • Upgrade from safari to maverick

how do i upgrade from safari to maverick?

I think you mean from Snow Leopard to Mavericks.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

I can't do it. The only versions of safari available to me on the apple site are 1.2, 1.3.1, and 1.3.2
I can upload version 1.2, but the installation program won't let me upgrade to 1.3.1. The installation program won't let pick a target for 1.3.1 (there is a big red exclamation point on the Hard drive icon).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

To the best of my knowledge, Safari 1.3 was released with Mac OS X Combined Update 10.3.9. Reinstall the Combo Update and then update with 1.3.1 and 1.3.2 in sequence.

Slow performance after installing Yosemite on an older Mac is often caused by inadequate memory. Although you can install the upgrade on a Mac with 2 GB of memory, experience has shown that at least 4 GB is needed for full performance.
Select About This Mac from the Apple menu. If you have less than 4 GB of memory, and your model has upgradable memory, install as much as it can take, or at least that much. Any reputable RAM vendor will have a web form in which you can select the Mac model and be directed to compatible parts.

  • Just upgraded from OS 10.3.9 to 10.4: Safari problems

I just upgraded from Mac OS 10.3.9 to Tiger 10.4; everything is working fine, except as follows:
    1. Software Update does not work. It seems that it tries to connect to the Apple servers (I can see the router and modem lights blinking), but a connection does not take place (the lights blink a couple of times every few seconds).
    2. Safari connects without any problems to this and other Apple Support forums, but not to any of the bookmarks in the Bookmarks menu.
Also, I believe that I may have caused the problem, and will give the details hoping that my problems with Safari may help others solve theirs. I may have made a mistake right after "upgrading" to OS 10.4, specifically after the required restart.
When my iMac G5 restarted, a registration form showed on the screen. The form was the data on my account. My account is not an Administrator account, but a "User" account instead. There was an option to change the account's "User's name," so I went ahead and slightly changed it by adding a "dot" to my first name initial (I don't use my first name, just my initial).
-The old account name was as follows: R
-So I changed the account name by adding a "dot" (.) right after the initial, to look as follows: R.
Right after making the change, I had the option to immediately connect to Apple and REGISTER, however, a connection could not be established or the computer was not responding, so I clicked on "Register Later" and quit.
Mail works fine, and so the DSL modem and router. I can access this forum, but Safari tries but can't to connect to other forums.
Do you think that by changing the User Account's name I may have screwed things up? I have tried MS's Explorer, but it too shows the same problems.
Any ideas on what to do at this point?

Steven: I know that the problems I had with Safari is not similar to yours, but I ended erasing the hard drive and reinstalling Tiger four times (I have posted the full story in a couple of Apple forums).
On the pre-final try i removed the router from the computer and only used the DSL modem. However, I decided to use Safari between Software updates, and again Safari stopped working, as well as Software Update. I had removed every USB and Firewire cable, set-up the network to stay active without interruptions, set the computer to stay awake forever, the screen to stay awake for over three hours, and the hard drive to stay awake.
Then on the final erasing/installing, I made sure that I didn't use Safari until every little update was finished all the way to a complete Mac OS 10.4.2. Once that was accomplished I used Safari, and I have been using it since.
A friend of mine is upgrading the router's firmware, just in case that was par t of the problem, but I don't think it was, since the router was out of the picture on the pre-final session.
I believe that for some reason OS 10.4 screwed the Network panel functions. If you just look at the settings they seem to be OK, but not really. The problem may be related to the G5 CPU and how Mac OS 10.4 works with it. While I was having a myriad of network problems, I could connect to the Internet, retrieve my mail, etc. using my son's Mini, as well as an old Mac 7300. Both of these worked just fine connected to the network (router and DSL). Only my iMac G5 would not work.

  • How to upgrade from glitchy Safari 5.1.10 on MacbookPro 10.6.8 ?

I'm assuming that Safari 5.1.10 is the last version supported by my MacbookPro. So what should I do when web pages have stopped loading correctly in this version? Do I upgrade my Mac, before I can upgrade my Safari? How do I know which version to upgrade my MacbookPro to?

Open the Mac App Store and try downloading Yosemite. If you get told it's incompatible, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Xeon or Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.
Alternatively, you can switch web browsers instead of upgrading the OS.

I have an IAMc 4.1 with intel core duo.  Upgraded from tiger to snow leopard but cannot get safari to run in 64 bit.  Is this because my older IMac won't support 64 bit?

    Hi,
the Intel Core Duo processor is a 32-bit only processor and not capable of 64-bit.
Only the Core 2 Duo and later processors are capable of 64-bit.
    Sorry
