Upgrade from server 2012 to server 2012 R2

Hi, my question is about the price,
I have a windows Server 2012 up and running and want to upgrade it to server 2012 R2. Is this operation Free or I should purchase another license for upgraded windows?
Thanks,

These are 2 different versions, you need have license.
Upgrade means
moving from your existing operating system release to a more recent release, while staying on the same hardware. For example, if your server is running Windows Server 2012, you can upgrade it to Windows Server 2012 R2. You can upgrade from an evaluation version
of the operating system to a retail version, from an older retail version to a newer version, or, in some cases, from a volume-licensed edition of the operating system to an ordinary retail edition.

  • Upgrade from Mac OS X Server 10.5.8 to Snow Leopoard

I need to know how to Upgrade from Mac OS X Server 10.5.8 to Snow Leopoard. I just need to get the 29.00 Snow Leopard? no the 499$. just one server and no clients to him.
    thanks

You cannot use the standard desktop Snow Leopard upgrade on a machine running any flavor of OS X Server. There is a lot of 'under-the-hood' functionality that would not take well to attempting this and could render you with a dead Mac until you reinstall the original OS.
If you wish to keep the Server functionality, the Snow Leopard Server upgrade ($499) is the only option.
If you wish to ditch the Server functionality and use the standard desktop version, you would need a copy of the desktop version of OS X 10.5 Leopard and the ($29) Snow Leopard upgrade. Apple does sell both 10.5 and the Snow Leopard upgrade in a combo bundle.

  • OS Upgrade from os 2003 to os 2012 impact on applications on the server

    Hi All,
We are going to have a client server os upgrade from 2003 to 2012. We have applications like SQL Server Management Studio, SQL Server Integration Services, SQL Server Analysis services and SQL Server Reporting Services. Apart from these, we are using Sharepoint
2007 and .Net for some functionalities.
The new server would be built in parallel with the current one and the current one will be decommissioned soon.
    I want to know the
software that need to be installed on the new server
The testing that will be involved in this upgrade
the risks involved in this upgrade
    Please help!!
    Thanks!

    Hello,
SharePoint Server 2007 is not supported on Windows Server 2012.
    http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2728964
Since you are using SharePoint 2007 and Windows Server 2003, I guess you are using SQL Server 2005 (or earlier version of SQL Server). SQL Server 2005 (or any earlier version of SQL Server) is not supported on Windows Server 2012 as explained on the following

  • Cheapest way to upgrade from 10.6 (non-server) to 10.7 (server)

I need to upgrade my MacPro from 10.6 (non-server) to 10.7 (server). I thought I could go to the App Store and pay $49.99 to do this, but it is saying that isn't possible. Do I need to upgrade to Lion first and then upgrade to Lion server? $80?
I know this is still amazingly cheap, and was just wondering if there is a way to go from A to B for only $49.99.

Do I need to upgrade to Lion first and then upgrade to Lion server? $80?
    Yes, that's correct.

  • What would make YOU upgrade from a 2011 to a 2012 MBA?

What would make you upgrade from a 2011 MBA to a 2012 MBA?
For me, the following woud be important for an 13'' MBA upgrade:
keep the low weight or even improve it
    do not sacrifice battery life
offer an 8 GB memory option
offer USB 3.0 in addition to Thunderbolt
    Pretty simple, isn't it?

True, but expecting a similar cycle of time between revisions is no more "strange" than expecting 2013 to arrive. I call it confidence in Apple's innovation cycles.
Yes, I suppose it is "speculating" in the harsh sense of the word, but so would talk about Apple's mere existence in the future. Right?

  • Upgrade from VS 2010 to VS 2012 - SSRS Data Extension no longer works.

I have upgraded to VS 2012 (with BI Tools) installed. We have an SSRS Data Extension that worked fine with VS 2010, both in the VS designer and on the SSRS server. I made the same changes as VS2010 to RSReportDesigner.config and RSPreviewPolicy.config
in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies\ and the data extension name is there in the data source dropdown, but it isn't the localized name from the assembly - so obviously the assembly does not appear to be
loading properly.  In ProcMon, I can see devenv finding the DLL and even doing a load image on it, but clearly I am missing something. Any ideas or at least hints on how to troubleshoot this?
My dev machine is Windows 7 x64. The VS 2010 version was compiled for Any CPU (I have tried this one). I have also tried to build an x86 version, since I read somewhere it needs to be compiled for 32 bits. I also tried a debugging version that logs every
call and clearly VS isn't calling anything, since a log isn't even created.
    Please help!

    Hi Mitch vH,
According to your description, the issue is that you cannot load the assembly in the Reporting Services. Based on my research, when the process or configured impersonation account does not have permissions access to the ASP.NET temporary files folder will
cannot load the assembly. To avoid this issue, please try to specify the Read/Write permission for an account to:

  • Upgrading from 10.8.4/Server 2.2.1 to 10.8.5/Server 2.2.2?

I've got a couple of fairly recent vintage (2011, 2012) Mac minis at work that are currently running Mac OS X 10.8.4 with OS X Server 2.2.1.
Software Update keeps trying to lure me into upgrading to 10.8.5, but I'm afraid things will break.
Don't I need to upgrade to OS X Server 2.2.2 at the same time, if I do so?
    Do I do 10.8.5 first, then 2.2.1 -> 2.2.2 after that?  Or vice-versa?
I'm also seeing troubling posts in this Forum about OS X Server 2.2.2 "disappearing" from the Apple update servers.  Is this still the case?!
I guess I can't upgrade the base OS if I can't find the necessary Server 2.2.2 version to update once I'm on 10.8.5, eh?
(I can't go to Mavericks and Server 3.0.x yet, for various reasons - time being a big factor)

    You'll need this http://www.netputing.com/handyprint/
    Works like a charm.

  • Upgrading from 10.5.8 Server to 10.6

I have a late 2006 Xserve running 10.5.8 server, wanting to upgrade it to 10.6.8 and then enevtually to 10.6.8 server, and understand that you have to wipe everything and do a clean install in order to get it on snow leopard. What's the easiest way to restore all files/applications using Time Machine without downgrading OS back to 10.5.8?

What applications do you have installed that can't be re-installed using the installers? I ask because if you're going to start from scratch why not do it properly for everything?
As for data copy these over to a suitably sized hard drive. This is good practice anyway as it will give you a backup of what's really important in case things go wrong.
If your current server is an OD Master and assuming a large-ish user base simply export Users, Groups which also exports applied policies (if any) and re-import them when you've configured the new server. Define a password policy that forces everyone to change it at next log-in.
FWIW I would never use Time Machine with OS X Server (any version). Fine for OS X Client (which is what you should use it for) but for OS X Server it's too unreliable.

  • Upgrade from 10.4.11 server to 10.6 server

    Hi there,
I wish to upgrade my current install of 10.4.11 server on my intel xserve to 10.6 server. However, when running the installer the hard disk where the current tiger install resides is greyed out (other partitions on the disk are available but I want to upgrade and keep my previous settings as much as possible).
Do I have to do a clean install (by erasing the current install in disk utility) or is there another way?
There were a few permissions problems on the previous install (I had to manually propagate permissions quite often using the workgroup manager) so maybe a clean install would be better?
    Any opinions gratefully received.
    Regards,
    Phil

Since you have to backup your boot partition (you ARE backing it up first, right? And at least two backups right?! No backup can be trusted until you restore it AND test that it is valid! Also 2 backups are better than one and one is not good enough!), you could complete the backups, boot from the disk, and back it up one last time from the installer.
From Disk Utility; highlight the disk in question, then go to Restore tab, drag the Disk to the Source and then with a new disk, (attached via Firewire or USB and at least as big as the internal disk), then drag that disk to the destination and click on 'Restore'.
Let it back itself up. Next reformat the disk in question (GUID partition!) and restore your backup data (reverse the disk selection, backup disk in source and just reformatted disk into Destination). I know, sounds like lots of work, but to protect your valuable data and time, most of this has to be done anyhow (at least 75% of it anyway) and if this last part finds you with the same situation you have another good backup to work off of and you have to format the disk anyhow (to make it blank).
For curiosity's sake, can you post your HD details?
From terminal run `diskutil list / && diskutil -info /` and send the results...

  • Can I upgrade from Mac OS X Server 10.6.8 to Lion?

I am currenty running a Mac mini with Mac OS X Server 10.6.8 and would like to upgrade to plain Lion OS X, can I do this or will their be problems going from a server OS to the normal OS?

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, click on More Info, and check the model identifier against the following, which are the earliest Macs of each type that can run Mountain Lion:
    iMac7,1
    MacBook5,1
    MacBookPro3,1
    MacBookAir2,1
    Macmini3,1
    MacPro3,1
    Xserve3,1
If your system's compatible, buy it from the Mac App Store. A computer incapable of running Mountain Lion which has a Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) or better CPU and at least 2GB of RAM can run Lion 10.7, which is available by phoning the online Apple Store and ordering a download code for it.

We are in the process of revieiwing the upgrade process. Our main concern is the ability to use DPM 2012 to restore Backups that were created on DPM 2012.
Is the restoration process supported by DPM2012.

    Hi,
As long as you are upgrading along the way, then recovery points made on DPM 2007 will be available for restore on DPM 2012.
The proper steps to upgrade from DPM 2007 to DPM 2012 are as follows:
    a) Patch SCDPM 2007 to newest patch level. (kb2250436)
    b) Save copy of DPM2007 SQL database (dpmbackup -db) - copy to network share.
    c) Un-install DPM 2007 - then Upgrade OS Windows 2003 to Windows 2008 - then to Windows 2008 R2.
Upgrading a DPM Server to Windows Server 2008
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd637098.aspx
    d) Install DPM2007 and install latest patch level. (kb2250436)
    e) Copy saved DPM 2007 DPMDB to local drive, then restore DPM 2007 DPMDB.
         (dpmsync -restoredb -dbloc c:\msdpm.bak)
         (dpmsync -sync)
    f) Upgrade SCDPM 2007 to DPM 2010 (Which automatcally included SQL upgrade)
    g) Patch SCDPM 2010 to newest update UR7 (kb2751231)
    h) Update the Agents to DPM 2010 agents
    I) Upgrade SCDPM 2010 to SCDPM 2012.
    j) Install latest DPM 2012 update UR3 (KB2756127)
    k) update the agents to DPM 2012 agents.
    L) Run CC on all data sources.
