Upgrade from Solaris 11 Express to Solaris 11 Release (11/11); Guide MIA?

Would there be an easy way to upgrade from Solaris 11 Express to Solaris 11 Release (11/11)? The FAQ for Solaris 11 Release has the following hopeful text:
Can I upgrade to Oracle Solaris 11 from Oracle Solaris 11 Express or Oracle Solaris 11 Early Adopter?
Yes. Customers can upgrade to Oracle Solaris 11 by using the package management tools. Refer to the Oracle Solaris 11
Transition Guide (http://www.oracle.com/pls/topic/lookup?ctx=E23824&id=MF JAI) for more information
But that link comes up with an error page 404, "topic not found".
The one transition guide I can find is:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E23824_01/html/E21799/index.html
But that covers Solaris 10 jumpstart, not Solaris 11 Express or Early Adopter.
The Solaris 11 documentation at:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/solaris11/documentation/index.html
Also seems to mention only Solaris 10, not 11 Express or Early Adopter.
I have already downloaded the full repo for Solaris 11 Release, and the live installer, but I'm hoping it's something as simple as pointing the ips manager to a new repository, or just loading the full repo I already have as a local source. I would also like to keep the dtrace and sun studio set up I have now in the Express version, without reinstalling them on a new release version on bare metal.
If it keeps the features of the express version while ironing out a few kinks (gdm authentication bug, etc.), that would rock.
Many Thanks,
Gordon

Alan, Thank You, that worked with no problem at all. 11 Express was already using the correct repository, and only required a pkg command update, then other updates.
So here's what I'm guessing:
1. The Oracle Solaris maintained repository for Express and Early Adopter are now the same as Release, but they do require an updated pkg executable and pkg update command.
2. The second form of the command mentioned in the update guide:
# pkg set-publisher -g http://pkg.oracle.com/solaris/release
-G http://internal.co.com/solaris solaris
is for using a local copy of the repository within our lan or vpn wan.
3. Updates should be fairly regular now that Solaris 11 is in release version.
I think the new hash (SHA 256) fried some of our old gdm settings for our users, so we're creating new user accounts, and migrating the older accounts. We don't have too many, so it's not a problem for us. But that brings up another point:
4. The graphical user manager in Express is now gone, and user and group management are now done with command line interface.
That's fine with me as well. I always use ssh to connect to the machine and then run the screen command for administration. The graphical user manager was always kludgy in Express, and I couldn't get it to work correctly anyway.
This is great stuff so far. Well done.

• Upgrading from Logic Express 7.0 to 7.1 doesn't work

When I try to upgrade from Logic Express 7.0.1 to LE 7.1 I get an error message saying the installed version is a later version than the upgrade I'm trying to apply.
I have upgraded from OS X.3.6 to X.4.0 since installing LE 7.0.1.
Any clues about what's going on with this time-warp problem?

This is exactly the same problem I have had, despite down loading several times (just in case), and even using a different machine (again, just in case). Needless to say, the query I posted on the Apple Logic help site has not been responded to!
Fortunately, Logic Express still works but it would be nice to be running the latest (functioning) version

• Upgrading from FC Express to FC Pro x

Can I upgrade to FC PRO X from FC Express or do I first have to buy FC Studio for $999.

Final Cut Pro X isn't an upgrade, it's a brand new software. The price for FCP X is $299.00 USD. When you install FCP X it will not touch or overwrite FC Express. You will have both programs on your computer. This is the same if you have FInal Cut Pro on the computer.

• The synth pad sound Warm Pad has changed after upgrading from Logic Express 7 to Logic Studio

Hello!
I have composed a lot of songs over the years using Logic Express 7, and my favourite synth pad sound there was a sound called Warm Pad (from the EXS24 Sampler).
A half a year ago I upgraded to Logic Studio, mainly because I needed WaveBurner. Happily, all my songs sounded exactly the same after the upgrade, except from 1 sound: The synth pad sound Warm Pad. It still got the same name and location, but the sound was replaced with a very sharp and much more distinct sound (not warm at all, in my ears at least).
I have tried to replace it with different synth pad sounds from the EXS24 Sampler, and the one I find to come most close to the old Warm Pad from Logic Express, is a synth pad sound called Pad 1. Still, I don’t think it sound exactly the same.
So, in order to finish all my songs and make an album, I ask you for help:
1. Do you know how I can get EXACTLY the same sound as the old Warm Pad Logic Express, with my new Logic Studio?
2. Have you experienced the same with sounds, after upgrading from one Logic version to a newer one? And what have you done to find back to the old sounds?
I will be VERY thankful for help, because I am not a genius in the mysterious (but yet exiting) world of synthesizer synthesis.

I have the boxed version of logic studio.
When you install, if you pick the "ad hoc" installation you can add the logic7 patches to your existing patches.
I think running installation again you should be able to install just that.

• Upgrading from 5 to 7. An Idiot's Guide needed

When I first got my Mac, it was just on the cusp of OSX. So it came loaded with OSX and OS9. The shop I got all the kit from set everything up on OS9 with Logic 5 working via OMS.
Now, this has worked fine (apart from a few lack of memory problems) but it's time to move on.
So, I upgraded to Tiger and I've bought the upgrade from Logic 5 (Big Box version) to Logic 7 pro.
Obviously I need more memory, although I'm not sure how much, but what are the practicalities to make sure it works when I first fire it up?
What happens to my old favorite VST's?
Virtual Guitarist, Groove Agent, Stylus,
My battered old Edirol Orchestral?
I write for TV regularly so I can't afford to have much down-time.
Please someone tell me it'll be OK....
Cheers
Rod

OMS was very popular for Mac OS 9 because it managed your MIDI ports and abstracted the software/MIDI relationship to where all we needed to know were the names of the ports, rather than port numbers and stuff like that.
Apple's CoreMIDI structure in Mac OS X is based on OMS (Doug Wyatt, the developer of OMS, works for Apple and has been the primary developer behind CoreMIDI).
If you are still planning to dual boot from OS9, you will use OMS there. However, as far as OS X goes, everything you need is built in and accessed from the Audio MIDI Setup utility.

well, oracle's path seems to see 10g's version of the listener:
hosts% which lsnrctl
/data/oracle/app/oracle/product/10g/bin/lsnrctl
I'm running this on the same host. ie loopback.
After the error, the listener seems to be in the process table - but nothing can talk to it:
oracle 856 818 0 20:05:06 pts/2 0:00 egrep lsnr
oracle 838 1 0 19:57:26 ? 0:00 /data/oracle/app/oracle/product/10g/bin/tnslsnr LISTENER -inherit

SQL Trace was stopped due to server shutdown. Trace ID = '1'. This is an informational message only; no user action is required.Running the Repair from the Installation centre
     brings up the same error.
I noticed that the instance appears to be upgraded but basically the service won’t run. I can start it but it just stops again.
So I found this which seems the same as my problem..
https://ilkirk.wordpress.com/2011/03/07/in-place-sql-upgrade-error-2005-to-2008/
Even though I can start the SQL Services using point 1 from the link above I can’t connect to sql using DAC.
The sqlcmd won’t work and trying to connect through SSMS.
> SQLCMD –E –A. I’ve also tried >SQLCMD FILESERVER1\ORSQLEXP –E –A and get the same results
HResult 0xFFFFFFFF, Level 16, State 1
SQL Server Network Interfaces: An error occurred while obtaining the dedicated administrator connection (DAC) port.
Make sure that SQL Browser is running, or check the error log for the port number [xFFFFFFFF].
When I try to connect to DAC via SSMS I get ..
So I seem to currently have 2 problems, one using sqlcmd/DAC and the other with provisionsystemaccounts.sql.
The sqlbrowser is running but from 90 (not sure if that matters) and I have removed (following online research) the 80 and 90 binn settings from the PATH just leaving 100 but this hasn’t changed the errors.
I’ve tried enabling DAC using this advice below but it hasn’t made any difference. The service keeps stopping and no SQLCMD action.
http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/2538/enabling-dedicated-administrator-connection-in-sql-server-2008-express-edition/
So after trying numerous options I currently stumped.

An update to this. I can now DAC via sqlcmd.
Following the advice on
https://ilkirk.wordpress.com/2011/03/07/in-place-sql-upgrade-error-2005-to-2008/
I'm at point 3
3.Issue a ‘create login’ command to create the user / group you’re missing, followed by the all important GO
and I'm a bit unclear on what to do. The user according to the error log is 'FILESERVER01\SQLServer2005MSFTEUser$FILESERVER02$ORSQLEXP'
and I tried
>sp_addsrvrolemember 'FILESERVER01\SQLServer2005MSFTEUser$FILESERVER02$ORSQLEXP', 'sysadmin'
>go
adding this seemed to work without error but running the repair from the installation centre bought up the exact same error as before.
So, bearing in mind using the advice from the above link
Have I added the user to the correct group?
If not how do I do that?
In the advice he also mentions..
Now – why did this happen?  Well, in my situation it seems to be related to the fact that I upgraded the default instance first which also upgraded the Full Text Engine.  That, in turn, removed the Full Text Engine user group from the local groups.
In particular, I was missing “<ServerName>\SQLServer2005MSFTEUser$<ServerName>$MSSQLSERVER”.  Note the fact that it mentions the default instance, not the named instance!
The SQLServer2005MSFTEUser login refers to a local Windows group that is used for controlling access to the Full Text Engine.  I suspect that when I upgraded the default instance, the installer removed the group from Windows, but not necessarily
from the named instance of SQL.  Once I recreated the group, granted my service account access to mirror the other similar groups, and added that login back into SQL via the DAC, everything went fine from there.
thanks,

• Is it worth upgrading from Logic Express 8?

Seems to do everything I need. I already own all the jam packs. What are the "must have" things that I will get for dropping $200? If it is worth it, I'll upgrade. Most of my recording is MIDI, some acoustic and electric guitars and vocals. I also would like to create sheet music.
Thanks

Well, if you're serious about wanting to achieve something, then an upgrade to Logic 9 from Express 8 will definitely be a good thing.
I originally got into Logic using Express at version 7/8, but there really are a good set of features that have been introduced in 9 that are genuinely useful to most people.
Features are only 'must have' if you think you need them for a specific purpose - the improvements are pretty basic, but enable you to work better - bouncing in place, creating a new sampler instrument from an audio region, for example, are great ways of doing what I want in a pretty more efficient way than I used to.

• ECC6.0 - upgrade from EHP4 to EHP6 - cross release transports.

Hi Experts
We are planning to upgrade our system from ECC6.0 -EHP4 to EHP6.
Source - ECC6.0-EHP4
Target - ECC6.0-EHP6(Enhancement pack6)
Current ECC version -
SAP_BASIS 701 0014 SAPKB70114 SAP Basis Component
SAP_APPL 604 0013 SAPKH60413 Logistics and Accounting
We would like to know during the project if we can do a transport
between upgraded development ECC6.0 -EHP6 to non upgrade production ECC6.0-EHP4.
We have data from note 1090842 and 1273566.
But last 10 lines of note 1090842 are contradictory wherein on one side it says you can do transports between Releases 7.0*, 7.3* and 7.4* and
on other it says it can be problem if support pack levels are different on same release.(if problem can happen on same release with different pack
level then there are greater chances of issues between different releases).Note 1273566 is clear and suggest no issues exist yet for
technical and logical transports between suggested version 700/701 to >=702
Also below is the extract from SUM guide - (SUM-1.0-SP07)
RECOMMENDATION
We strongly recommend that you perform transports only between systems of the same release or enhancement package level, and where the same business functions are activated. If you do not follow this recommendation, you do so at your own risk regarding potential problems.
Please suggest if we need to create Dual maintainance parallel landscape during the tenure of project where two development system co-exist.One
with current and one with upgraded version and changes need to be done on both in parallel.Support fixes and LTO’s go from non upgraded dev to non upgraded prod.
Thanks

Hello
I won't perform cross version transport even if it can be possible.
As of 7.02 cross version transport are prevented by default with option SP_TRANS_SYNC (see here under note).
The best way is, if possible, to have a manual dual maintenance. All corrections created in the Ehp4 dev should be manually recreated in the Ehp6 dev.
What is usually done is to upgrade at first a copy of production for test/discovery purpose, the aim is to identify most of the regressions/evolutions. This will reduce the time you will have to spend in the migrated dev to adjust your system. You then migrate dev and enter in a freeze period where you reduce activity on legacy Ehp4 system to the minimum (bug correction for prod).
One good thing with the manual reprocessing of changes on the Ehp6 system is that this kind of constraint will help consultants to reduce their activity.

• My problem with Toplink upgrade from 2.5.1 to Release 2

Hi:
I met some confusions in upgrading our system from TOPLINK2.5.1 to TOPLINK Release 2(Oracle9.0.3).
And because I didn't use TOPLINK tools before this project, I spent one week to know the structure of our system. Unfortunately, Our company isn't a supported Oracle customer. We just bought Oracle product, didn't buy support service.
First of all, I'll describ our system structure. The system is Weblogic5.1 + Toplink 2.5.1 + Oracle8.1 .Using Toplink we mapping our EJB to Oracle. The results of this procedure aremany .table, .descriptor, .topclass under the mapping forlder, and weblogic-ejb-jar.xml, topling-cmp-XX.xml, ejb-jar.xml under the deploy forlder. That's all.
So, after our ant-build, we copy these results to Weblogic server directory, and compile with EJB, deploy them. It's correct?
OK, as my considering, I install TOPLINK Release 2 , use Renamer tool to rename my source code from old TOPLINK library to oracle.toplink, complie them again. And create new project in TOPLINK 9.0.3 , import classes, login Database correctly. Do mapping as in TOPLINK2.5.1. Generate packagename.ClassDescriptor.xml under Descriptor, forlder ClassRepository, Class, Table, Database generate xml files also.
Do the above process correct? OK, let's assume it' correct. But how can I modify my ant-build , you know the structure is difference between Weblogic 5.1 and Weblogic 6 or 7. Additionally, I don't know where should I copy new TOPLINK library to Weblogic directory. Yes, I know old TOPLINK library location, but I think it has difference.
So , please tell me I can use Weblogic5.1 + TOPLINK 9.0.3 + Oracle 8.1 , is it right? I will be appreciated if you can give me some detail steps in upgrading TOPLINK.
And perhaps we need to upgrade out system from TOPLINK 2.5.1 to TOPLINK 4.x first?
Thanks for your view.

Hello Denver,
If you are using CMP Entity Beans then TopLink 903 supports WebLogic 6.1 and 7.0. You would have to upgrade your WebLogic version at the same time you upgrade TopLink.
If you are using Java Objects (not CMP Entity Beans), then you can use any version of any app server with TopLink.
If you migrate from 2.5.1 to 903, you can send your project to support and they will update it. If you are not a supported customer, then you will have to do this manually (meaning you will have to remap in 903 from brand new).
You are correct that your build process will be different when you migrate, but this will be because of how WebLogic has changed deployment and how the EJB spec has evolved moreso than anything to do with TopLink. How to do deployment in 903 should be in the TopLink 903 docs.
Hope this helps,
- Don

• Trying to upgrade from Logic Express 7 to 8 and it won't do it!

I've had a copy of Logic Express 7 for a couple of years now but it was a "Not For Resale" version.
Will that interfere with my upgrade to version 8?

What I probably should have said was that I have been running a "Not For Resale" version of Logic Express 7.1.1 for a while now. I tried to upgrade to the new Logic Express 8.0 but it won't allow because the serial number that came with the "NFS" version is apparently not valid.
Do I need to go back to the original "Big Box" install and use that serial number or should I just re-install everything from the "Big Box"?

• WCF-SAP Adapter throwing errors after SAP Upgrade from ECC 5 to ECC6 Release 640 to 700

Hello Everyone,
We were able to communicate(Send and Receive Idoc's) to SAP via WCF-SAP Adapter in BizTalk 2010.
SAP Servers were upgraded to ECC5 to ECC 6 and we started facing below issue communicating on send and receive both.
I am aware that there is a hotfix available but that is more on the Receive Side from SAP. Nevertheless I installed the hotfix but issue still persists. Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.
