Upgrade from V7 to v11

HI ,
I have a question regarding upgrade , we are moving from v7 to v11, (we have Essbase , Reports and Anlayzer ...currently we are not using any external authentication.) .
Now the question was , do we need to use Hyperion shared services -- is is mandatory to use shared services?? or is it ok to install Essbase ,reports and analyzer individually. I have some past exp with Shared services...if HSS is down everythign wont work (in that env we have planning also now we don't).
Can you please tell your experiences on this. ....if HSS is not mandatory ...then which way is best ...do we need to implement SS or not.. ??

If you are going to use Financial Reports and Web Analysis then yes you will need to use Shared Services.

Below breakup for Hyperion objects
Total number of cubes – 10,
Total number of analyzer reports – 100
Total number of users – 50
     Can we upgrade all essbase cubes from v9 to v11?
     What consideration need to take while EIS upgrade?
     Can we upgrade all 100 reports?
     Can we upgrade all 55 users?
     Any other points need to look while doing upgrade?

I would think the answer to all your question is "Yes" but that said, I am not very sure about Essbase.:)

Smartview reports do not open in HFM v11.1.2.1 after upgrade from v9.3.1.

Smartview reports when I attempt to open in HFM v11.1.2.1 (after upgrade from v9.3.1), points me to launch v9.3.1 workspace. Any advise pls... Thanks, Mark

I still don't fully understand the issue. Smart View is not launched from Workspace -- it is instead run from within one of the Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook). Are you instead asking about Financial Reports? These are run from the Explore menu within Workspace. You can view these as html or PDF.
A little more confusing is the fact that Smart View can run a Financial Report from within any of the Office products. In any case, when you use Smart View in 11.1.2.1 you could open a connection to the Workspace server (the connection in Smart View is defined in the Smart View options under Advanced > Shared Connections URL). Assuming you have provided a correct URL there, pointing to the 11.1.2.1 workspace server, you should see the available shared connections when you open a new conenction.
I re-read your e-mail and wonder if you are confusing things a bit. If you log into Workspace, using Internet Explorer, each user has their own preferences as to what page launches by default upon login. I think you are saying that a usr logging into the 11.1.2.1 workspace somehow has a default page leading them back to the 9.x workspace? If so, check their preferences to examine the default document and it's URL. Once logged into Workspace, choose File > Preferences > General, to view the Startup page. You can make any changes here, but this is user-by-user.

Upgrade from Strategic Finance v9.3 to v11

Can anyone please tell me their experience upgrading from Strategic Finance v9.3 to v11. In particular I am interested in feedback regarding Dimensions (incl. ECMs of Formula Changes to the dimension), Essbase Mapping, File Importing, file sizes (mine are very large), Calc Times.
Also is there a comparison sheet that exists that lists the attributes for each version?

We got an update from the client stating that he does not want to move to windows 2008 sever and he wants to continue with windows 2003 server itslef. There are lot of questions in my mind. Where to start from? Is there any document whiich will help me to start the upgradation.
1) Do i need to uninstall the exisitng version and install the new one or is there any upgrade option button which is available in version 11.1.2.1 which i just need to cliick on it.
2) How should i take care about the users and groups as there is no OPENLDAP in 11.1.2.1 ? How should i do it?
3) The client is using Apache in the current verison and i think it replaced as OHS in 11.1.2.1? How should i do this?
4) Client wants to move oracle 9i to Exadata. can we configure Hyperion with Exadata. I don't think that we can configure Hyperion with exadata...

Upgrade from Planning 9.2.0.2 to 9.3.1 or 11.1

We are currently on Sytem 9.2.0.2 and are looking to upgrade to 9.3.1 or 11. Does anybody know where I can go to get some information on the difference between 9.3 & 11. Any specific things I should look out for with regards to an upgrade to either version. I wouldn't look to do an upgrade until early 2009 and by then there would probably be a 11.1.2. Any info would be much appreciated. Regards John

In theory you can upgrade from Planning 9.2 to 9.3.1 or 11, I must admit when it comes to planning I prefer to do a fresh install of planning and then migrate the planning apps.

I would not go down trying to directly upgrade from 9.2. to V11.
I would back up all your planning objects, install configure V11 and perform a standard planning migration, it will upgrade the planning relational database.

Crystal Report 4.6 reports are pretty old. There have been 3 or 4 major code rewrites to Crystal Reports between CR 4.6 to CR XI. I think your CR 4.6 reports will run from CR XI but I can't be sure. I haven't seen CR 4.6 in quite a few years and have never tested it. You will probably want to update the old reports to CR XI. To update the reports open them in CR XI and save them in the CR XI format. Please be sure to keep back up copies of the original CR 4.6 reports.
Your VB application will have to be migrated to a different component. The Crystal OCX (crystl32.ocx) that was available in CR 4.6 was retired after CR8.5. In order to run your CR XI reports you'll need to migrate your VB6 application to the Report Designer Component (RDC) object model.
There are a number of documents that will help you with the code migration. Here are some links:

You will also want to review the changes to [database connectivity|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/0003c6cc-891e-2b10-678e-8b1a2dd96556] at runtime from earlier versions of Crystal Reports compared to CR XI.

The upgrade path for the RDC is to move to the CR .NET object model. Does anyone know the best pratice for Smartview when upgrading from Excel 2003 to Excel 2007?
Current users have Microsoft Excel 2003 with Smartview 9.3.1.2.1.003.
Computers are being upgraded to Microsoft Excel 2007.
What is the best pratice for Smartview in this situation?
1. Do nothing with Smartview and just install Excel 2007.
2. Install Excel 2007 and then uninstall and reinstall Smartview
3. Uninstall Smartview, Install Excel 2007, and then install Smartview
4. Somthing else??

We went with option 1 and it worked out fine. Be aware that SV processes noticeably slower in Excel 2007 than 2003. Many users were/are unhappy with the switch. We haven't tested SV v11 yet, so I'm not sure if it has improved performance with Excel 2007 or not (hopefully it does).

Upgraded from CR XI to 2011 and now my old 2005 SQL OBDC Connection is gone

I upgraded from a working CR XI (v11.0) product to CR 2011 v14.0.2. But when I try to open an old report from CR XI, it prompts me to a OBDC (RDO) Data Source Selection Window and my old Database connection is not there to select.
I use SQL Native Client 2005.90.3042.00 for my old SQL Server DSN Config with CRXI. How do I select my old DSN Configuration so I can access my data?
If I run CR XI, I can still connect with the above mentioned configuration without any problems.

That is strange.... I've never heard of that happening before. I have 100's of reports that have no problems. What OS are you using? CR 2011 fully supports ODBC and SQL Server 2005 and 2008. How did you create the DSN and is it a User DSN, System DSN or file DSN?
Actually we did not support the SQL Native Client in XI, you had to use the MDAC version "SQL Server" to connect. Not sure why it worked, likely because the SQL generated wasn't complex so it mapped to that driver easily.
There have been others who have discovered using the SQL Native 10 client that gets installed with SQL Server 2008 Client Tools works great for both 2005 and 2008. You can download it from MS's site, get the 32 bit version. CR 2011 is still a 32 bit application.
It does require you to update your DSN to the Native 10 driver, update, verify and save your old reports also to get them to the new CR 2011 file format.

Is it really possible to upgrade from a Treo 650 to a Treo 750?

I am not a very happy customer at the moment, but any help would be greatly appreciated. I upgraded from my old Palm Tungsten to a Zire, then to a Cingular Treo 650, combining three devices into one. I have since discovered that the Treo 650 seems to have a faulty transmission mode, as I can rarely be clearly understood by whomever I call. Am on the second (or third, I have lost track) and continue to have the same problem. I get five bars of reception but can't be understood on the other end. A bit of a problem when one is trying to call 911. Am constantly told I am "breaking up". The repair shop says it "Can't duplicate the problem". OK, then I do not want to give up all the info I have stored in the fool thing, and the 750 seems to have a different system, so I thought I would try that. All the stuff I could find seemed to indicate it wouldn't be a problem to upgrade. When the 750 arrived, I tried to install the software from the CD on my Windows XP computer. No dice. Setup encounters an error and closes. Can't even look at the files, because setup tries to run any time I access the CD. From any drive. Gave it to my girlfiend to check on her computer, and the CD seemed to run fine. Other CDs work just fine on my computer. Must be some kind of conflict, but what? Tried calling the AT&T number that suggested they could help with setup, and was first connected to the business center, they routed me to the laptop center, who routed me to the network center, who said they would have to bring in the Palm customer service and connected me to a Mac guy that dumped me back to a menu that took me to someone for whom English is a second language with whom I was trying to communicate over a very poor satellite connection. They made no sense anyway. telling me first that I couldn't have two desktops running (wrong, my girlfriend has my old Zire and the CD worked fine) and then insisting that the serial number on my device had to start with a P, when it clearly does not have any alpha characters in it. Gave up on that route of assistance. Managed to get the new ActiveSync installed from my girlfriends computer over the network. Great. Now let's get my 650 synced with Outlook (which I have not used at home) and see if we can move on. Nope. First I have to update Outlook 2000 from the old Win98 to my current XP. Find the old CD, and square that away. OK, now sync to Outlook. Nope. The sync program gives an error, saying it will only sync with Outlook 98, 2000, and XP(2002). Good grief. I have Outlook 2000, and the software apparently does not recognize it. If the Palm doesn't work, there is no reason for me to keep this phone, and I am very close to returning it and abandoning the Palm entirely when I upgrade to something that works, although I dread re-entering all that information.

Thanks for the feedback. Today I installed an Enterprise version of Office 2007 I purchased a while back, but had not yet installed. Microsoft presented a few challenges, but they were quickly resolved. I then downloaded the appropriate conduit from Palm, and synced the 650 with the handheld overwriting the computer. Then used Active Destop to sync the 750. Satisfied I had moved as much info as possible, I called AT&T and had them move the phone number to the new Treo.
Bonus! When the guy at AT&T called me on the new phone to verify it, he said it sounded better than my landline.

I have just downloaded the upgrade from Mountain Lion to Yosemite. In the process i am now unable to gain access to iTunes. The app on desktop no longer works and the install is not able to be opened.
