Why can't I open mp4 movies in my new QuickTime Player. I just upgraded my MacBookPro Intel Core Duo to Snow Leopard 10.6.8.

I recently upgraded my MacBookPro Intel Core Duo to Snow Leopard 10.6.8. When I opened one of my movie clips in mp4 file it was opened by my MPEG Streamclip and not with the new QuickTime Player that came with the new OS. I need to manually open the Quicktime Player and Open file the mp4 movie I want to play it. I have no problem with the QuickTime Pro that I was using in my previous OS before I upgraded. I did not encounter this problem, however, with my iMac Intel when I upgraded it to Snow Leopard 10.6.8. The Quicktime Player in my iMac Intel automatically opens my mp4 movies. Only my flv files are opened automatically by my MPEG Streamclip as I expected to. Why?

Worth upgrading 2.16 Intel Core 2 Duo 3 GB Ram to new model macbook?

Talk some sense into me. I have a 2.16 Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 gb ram in it from OWC. OF course it only recognizes 3 GB. Would it be worth it to upgrade to the cheapest but newest Macbook (2.1GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) so it could take advantage of the full 4 GB ram? (This is assuming they bot use the same Ram chips). supposedly these newer Macbooks are of course "faster" also. Of course this would mean reselling my existing Macbook (and probably taking a nice loss.) Other options is to watch the refurbished page, or perhaps eBay for a newer MacBook parts machine.
Or maybe enough is enough, and I should be happy with my 3 GBs... it is just that 1 GB... just sitting there... perfectly useful... just sitting there...

To OP, to answer your question, you need to really assess whether or not you ever fully use the full 3 gigs you currently have. Even then I think its just a feeling of buyers remorse your having. Trustme, I'm planning on buying a Macbook within a month to take advantage of the Free iPod offer for students, and I'm pretty sure there will be an update of the Macbooks in the fall.
On a side note, you could always upgrade your harddrive to a faster one (faster rotation speed, more mb cache, etc). Because of course when ever you top out on RAM, it uses the harddrive to make up for deficit. And from what I've read, a new harddrive does not void the warrenty.
Just my two cents.
EDIT: I was reading on Wikipedia, and it says that your model with the 2.16 Ghz c2d has the capability of 4gigs of RAM... but it says 3.25 usuable. That means your wanting to upgrade for 750mb of RAM. IMO definately not worth it. Also I read on another forum that a guy with the same setup (4gigs in 2.16 cpu macbook) runs several apps while doing photoshop cs3 work and has never topped out on RAM usage. I think you are plenty fine unless your using your macbook for heavy audio or video production... and even in that case I would recommend getting a faster harddrive anyway.

Upgrading 2006 MBP Intel Core Duo to SSD?

My MBP is starting to become depressingly slow. After some research, it appears I'm maxed out at 2GB of memory!    I was wondering if anyone has any experience upgrading the hard drive to a SSD in the same model as mine? Would I notice a huge difference?
I want to install Lion, but am very nervous it will bring my computer to an unusable creep as I've heard from others.

There is a common misconception that computers slow down over time. This is just not the case. There is no reason for your computer to run slower today than the day you bought it. There is usually something which causes your system to become slow. Things like low hard drive space and perhaps applications running in the background that you weren't aware of can impact speed. A failing hard drive can also cause problems.
As you currently have a 5400RPM 120GB hard drive, you will see a significant change in the amount of time it takes applications to launch with an SSD. Keep in mind, an SSD is only replacing your hard drive, so it is only increasing the speed of loading data from your drive. It won't speed up your applications (except, again, the drive access time for applications that may rely heavily on disk use). As you only have 2GB of RAM, your system likely pages data to your hard drive fairly often. This is when your RAM is "full" and it dumps some of the data to your hard drive so it can load more into the RAM. When you have a low amount of RAM to start with, this happens more often. As an SSD is somewhat faster, this becomes less noticeable.
Instructions for replacing your drive may be found in your user's manual. You should avoid going with SATA 6GB (aka SATA III). While they will work, the SATA speed on your system is SATA 1.5GB. Even if you get a SATA 6GB drive, it will only run at 1.5GB... so there's no sense in paying for the extra speed. You probably won't be able to find a SATA 1.5GB drive... but a SATA 3.0GB (SATA II) drive will be less expensive than a 6GB drive and it will perform just as well on your system. The drive in your system now doesn't come close to saturating the bandwidth of your SATA 1.5GB controller. So, even with the older SATA 1.5GB controller, you will still see a significant boost in speed with an SSD.
Having said all that... basically, yes... an SSD will make your system noticibly faster, but it will not boost processing speeds for your applications.

I would suggest that you have 3 options:
Buy a used, but newer model, at places like eBay and Amazon.
Buy a new model from Apple.
Buy an Apple refurbished model - usually last year's and sometimes the year prior to that.

There is no way to plug in a different processor on your older MacBook. Processors have been soldered in for quite a long time.
The only known method is to convert your MacBook to Cash (by selling it) and use the cash to buy a MacBook that better meets your needs.

Sometimes it's hard to sort out "kids" that are looking for the latest and greatest that don't fit their needs and just want mommy and daddy to buy them a 2K laptop because their friends have it.
Still keeping things constant, if I were you I would hold onto that Powerbook G4 as long as physically possible. If you do truly want to upgrade to the Intel Processors I would wait at the minimum for the release of Leopard in 2007 so that you don't waste money down the road in upgrades. This will also guarantee that you have the best computer for the time.
You may want to read a very beneficial post about the new Core 2 Duos here, something regarding the 64bit technology which may really only be 40bit, so you may even want to hold off even more.
The bottom line is that the Powerbook G4 is still a great machine, and can still be rendered very useful until a newer OS and newer release of the MacBook Pro line is out.
As I said before, there is no "upgrade" program. It would be financially stupid for a company to do that. It's not like cars that lose only a % of value when they're bought - computers basically retain no value once purchased. For instance, check eBay - there aren't many computers in "like new" condition for over $500 because the industry moves so fast that you may be able to get "brand new" with many upgrades for $600.
I think you need to really list your needs down on paper - and see which fits. A top of the line Mac Book may suit your needs and will still come in at a lower price then a bare bones Mac Book Pro (or about the same price)
The nice thing about the Intel processors is that you can install windows if you need it. Some people that need it all the time could even slip in a nice big HD and run equal partitions.
I personally try to stay as far away from windows as possible, but still have 1 or 2 programs that haven't moved to have mac support. For this I still use a desktop PC.
Last - Keep in mind that the Macromedia stuff won't run well on Intels yet, so another reason to wait if you will use their Dreamweaver programs.

If you want to sync it to the iPad from that Mac, you need to upgrade it to at least 10.5.8.
If you want to copy the music to another Mac, you don't. Move the iTunes folder of the item in the Finder's sidebar over as you would any other folder. If you put it somewhere other than the Music folder, launch iTunes with the Option key held down and point it to that location.
