Upgrade graphics card available?

Hello,
My iMac has an ATI RadeonHD 2600 card with 256G. Is it possible to upgrade this computer's graphics card? If so, what are the options for upgrade?
thanks.

Short answer: No.
Graphics cards cannot be upgraded - the only choices there are if you buy from the online store and choose a special configuration.

    Hi:
Unfortunately in most of today's notebooks (including yours), the graphics cannot be upgraded.
I looked at the service manual for your notebook, and there aren't even any other motherboards with better graphics available.
You can try the latest drivers from AMD to see if that helps, any but you can't do anything with the hardware.

    Hi:
Graphics adapters cannot be upgraded simply.
You would need to replace the motherboard with one that would have better graphics (if one exists for your model).
This would cost as much as buying a new notebook, so it is probably not a good idea to undertake such an endeavor.

  • What upgrade graphic card do i need for a early 2008 mac pro

I have a early 2008 Mac Pro.  ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256 MB is what i have now.  What is a good upgrade graphic card to get.

The GTX 780 6GB runs fine on the dual PCIe internal power cables -- as does the GTX 680 and Radeon HD 7950. The same can't be said of the GTX TITAN or GTX 780 Ti or Radeon R9 280X -- all of which require an auxiliary power feed to avoid a nasty power down of your tower at the worst moment when too much wattage is demanded of the Mac Pro's factory power supply.
Did I mention that the GTX 780 with 6GB of GDDR5 matches the 6GB of GDDR5 in the TITAN?
The one fallacy to my 'sweet spot' award has to do with OpenCL. In case you hadn't noticed, the AMD Radeon GPUs smoked the NVIDIA GeForce GPUs running Photoshop's OpenCL accelerated Iris Blur filter and rendering LuxMark's OpenCL accelerated Room scene.

So depends on budget, whether you want a PC card for less but no "early EFI boot screen" prior to drivers loading, and what apps and needs you have.
The one thing for sure is that 2600XT should have been retired ages ago and even more so with 10.8.3 and above, it could be trouble or just... PITA/POS.

  • Upgrading graphic card on HP DC 8300 CMT

    Dear HP,
I try to upgrade graphic card, on HP DC 8300 CMT (Intel® Core™ i7-3770 Processor, Intel HD Graphics 4000 )
with Nvidia Asus GeForce GTX 650 Ti.
As stock power supply doesnt meet requirements, I installed an additional  FSP Group Booster X5 450W.
Once I turn PC on, it reboots 3 times, and eventually it continues to use onboard graphic and windows 7 loads as usual .
like if new graphic card is not present. (not detected by windows)
Bios version is latest and particular option  for disableing integrated graphic is grayed out- not accessible.
Is there any explanation why this happens ?
On DC 8100 sff It automaticaly disabled onboard graphic, altough it was low consumption Radeon HD 7750 Low Profile card, and there was no any problem.

  • Upgrade Graphics card for 2007 24in Intel iMac...any word yet?

Hello, I remember talking about upgrading my 128mb graphics card on my 2007 24 inch Intel iMac a while back. people said it was possible, but now that two years have passed almost, have they come out with new cards that fit this machine? what is the best to use and where do I get one?
Is it easy enough for me to do myself or should I have it installed professionally?
    Thanks!

Unfortunately not these machines were not intended to have graphic card upgrades therefore no graphics card upgrade is available for your iMac.
If you want an upgradeable machine the next time your purchase I would recommend looking at the Mac Pro which is designed with upgradability in mind, including memory, hard drives, and yes graphics cards.

  • Need help upgrading graphics card!

    Hey guys,
I am looking to upgrade the graphics card in my Quad core mac pro that I have had for about a year now.  I am a video professional and run FCS, After Effects, Blender, C4D, Nuke, Mocha and everything in between.   I also run 3 monitors, 2 24' Dell Ultrasharps and one older model flat panel strictly for project panels.  I have been reading about the ATI cards and NVidia cards.  Money is not an issue.
Can someone help and make any recommendations???
    Thanks!

I believe that the ATI 5870 (available at the Apple Online Store, ≈ $450) will work with all but the first generation Mac Pros. It's as crazy as Apple is currently supporting.

  • Upgrading graphics card in 2008 2.8 ghz 8-core

I'd like to upgrade the graphics card on my Mac Pro - currently using the ATI Radeon HD 2600 that came with the system. I'm thinking about the HD 4870 or the GT 120. The most graphics intensive programs I use are Adobe CS4 and some video games. Most of my games are at least a couple years old and don't require anything too powerful. They all run pretty well now, but are a little choppy at times and you can really hear the graphics card working. So I think the GT 120 would probably be sufficient, but I'm interested to know what others think. I don't have a use for the Mini DisplayPort and do currently use two monitors, so I would want to add this card to my setup rather than replace the old one. Will this work with only one double-wide PCI slot? Currently, slot 3 is taken by an e-Sata card but slots 2 and 4 are available. If I use two graphics cards, do they share the GPU load or is it primarily placed on one of them?
Would having the HD 4870 be substantially better than both the HD 2600 and the GT 120? I also use windows through Boot Camp, would there be any issues with either of these setups? Thanks.

Why keep two (completely different) cards in the system when you're not using them?
GPU load is never shared, you can couple two video cards of _exactly the same brand and type_ in PC's (if the cards support it!), but that won't work in a Mac.
The most you'll get out of it, especially if you're only using one, is trouble.
The HD 4870 will be the best deal, the GT 120 is already quite slow for most of the newer games...

  • Problem with upgrading Graphics Card from GTX 635 to GTX 960

    Greetings,
I'm new to upgrading hardware in computers but have decided that I wanted to upgrade my graphics card in my HP Envy 700 - 329 (Nvidia GTX 635) to an Nvidia GTX 635. The only problem is I have never opened a computer and have no idea what cable to put where or how to take my old Graphics Card out to put my new one in, and I'm very worried because I might mess up.  Is there any video tutorial/ guide out there that is convinient to my desktop for me to upgrade?
    Thanks,
    Marwan
P.S. Is the space in the Envy 700-329 large enough for the GTX 960?

    Hi there
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I understand that you are looking at upgrading your internal video adapter from a Nvidia GTX 635 to a Nvidia GTX 690. I am happy to help with this. FIrst thing, you must be aware of before you buy any video adapter upgrade, is the power requirements of the card, the recommended minimum output for the computer's power supply,  the size of the card, the required expansion slot type, and the type of power connectors that must be available for the card from your system power supply. Starting with a comparison of the card you have with the one you are thinking to install:GeForce GT 635 (OEM) Specifications - www.geforce.comBus Support - PCI-E 3.0 Height 2.731 inchesLength 5.70 inchesslotWidth SingleMaximum Graphics Card Power (W)  35W GeForce GTX 690 Specifications - www.geforce.comBus Support - PCI Express 3.0Height 4.776 inchesLength 11.0 inchesslotWidth Dual-slotMaximum Graphics Card Power (W)               300WMinimum System Power Requirement (W) 650WSupplementary Power Connectors                Two 8-pin Your computer has the following:
Power Supply Internal Total wattage: 460W  - too lowDimensions: 150mm x 140mm x 86mm (5.9 x 5.5 x 3.4 inches) I have highlighted the items you will need to be aware of in red, before trying to install this card. Because the stock power supply is 460W, it will also need to be replaced, because the card requires that your power supply meet a minimum output of 650W, and that power supply needs to also have two 8-pin supplementary power connectors. I included the dimensions of your current power supply so you have a guide to the type of space you have and form of the power supply to help with finding something that will fit in that space. Also I highlighted the fact that the card you are looking at is significantly larger in all dimensions, so you can make sure it will fit inside the case or have an idea of what cabling may need to be moved, and because it is a dual-slot width, it may block another slot on your main board. Because of all of these issues you may want to consider talking to a local computer tech or a tech savvy friend to help you with this, and maybe save some money as well. I did not include the instructions on how to replace the card itself, because of the other issues, which you will need to check on first. I hope this helps, or does not confuse the matter more, but reading your post I realized you were probably not aware of these little roadblocks.

  • HP H8-1020 - Upgrading graphics card/power supply

    Hey,
Looking to give my almost 5 year old PC a much needed graphics card boost. As mentioned in the title, I have a HP h8-1020. After reading other posts from users on this forum, It seems that the power supply provided with this model (300W) is completely insufficient for any new, decent graphics card.
    I also use a 27 inch Samsung S27D360 Monitor.
I read that some people used the corsair CX500/600 with a Nvidia GT X series (2Gb) card as a suitable upgrade. However I don't know much about power supplies or performance graphics cards.  I'm not looking for an absolute top of the line card, just one that can run most modern high-intensity graphics games. I'm hoping for a price range of about $100 for the power supply, and no more than $200 for the graphics card.
Here are some of the games that I would like to run on high - max settings (preferably in 1920x1080):
    Diablo 3
    Skyrim
    Grand Theft Auto V
    The Elder Scrolls: Online
Any help with suggestions for a new power supply/graphics card would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi,
The Corsair CX600 would be a good choice for a power supply as would the Corsair CS650m.
You have an older PC which usually requires an older generation graphics cards.  The NVIDIA GTX 660 would be a good choice.
ZOTAC makes a number of graphics cards that are compatible back to PCI-E version 1.1.  Model  ZT-90101-10P is compatible back to PCI-E version 1.1 and is available at Best Buy.

  • Upgrading Graphics Card and Display

Hello, i'm an architect and would like to upgrade my graphics card. Currently i have a GeForce2 TwinView. I'm thinking about ATI Radeaon 9800 or the 9200. Anythoughts? Would i see big difference in my 3d work.

    Hi-
Yes, you can use a 9800. The 9800 is the top of available upgrades for the G4.
Look on eBay for a used Mac version, or a flashed PC version 9800. It's a great alternative to waiting indefinitely for a Mac version about $100 more.
