Upgrade Hard result in "You can not install OSX" from installer

I purchased a new 120GB Fujitsu HD, model number MHW2120BH. I boot off the DVD, format the drive as HFS+(Journaled) without a problem. My trouble starts when I attempt to install OSX. The page showing all possible install destinations, there is a red ! over the new drive, with a statement of "You cannot install Mac OS X on this volume. You cannot start your computer from this volume"
The specs on the drive are: SATA interface; 1.5Gb/S data transfer. This model number of hard drive seems to be what Apple is using in MBP 120 options. Is there another step I am missing to this process or can I not use this drive?

Read page 8 for what you need to do to install the osx.
http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/MacBook13inch_HardDriveDIY.pdf
It will not let you install osx on the hard drive because it is not bootable. Just formatting the drive does not make it bootable. As I said check page 8 and erase and install your software per the directions.

Flash Player version 10.1.102.64 is the last version available to PPC Mac users. However, this Flash version won't work for many videos on Facebook, YouTube and other sites. Adobe's latest version, 10.2.x or later, is only for Intel Macs. Adobe will not provide a newer Flash version for PPC Macs.
The message requesting that you download Adobe Flash Player takes you to Flash Player requiring an Intel processor. Doesn't work on a PowerPC processor. I found a hack, installed it & it works with Firefox, TenFourFox & Safari.
Download this http://www.steelbin.com/FPforFBPPC.zip to your desktop, unzip it, and replace the current Flash Player plug-in which is in your main/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, (not the user Library). Save the old one just in case this one doesn't work.

    HELP
Mac mini   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Hi, shoaib.
You wrote: "also in disk utility i get this
"invalid file or directory ID found"
"the volume HD needs to be repaired"
"Error: the underlying task reported failure onn exit""The disk directory of your hard drive is corrupted. This is the source of your problems.
If you cannot afford either of the third-party utilities:
    • Alsoft Disk Warrior 3.x (DW3)
    • Micromat TechTool Pro version 4.1.x (TTP4).
then you will need to follow the instructions in "Disk Utility reports 'Underlying task reported failure' when repairing a volume."
Specifically, given that your attempt to repair the disk using Disk Utility from your Tiger DVD failed, there are no other solutions available for this problem other than:
    • Attempting repair with the third-party disk utilities cited above.
    • Backing up whatever data can be saved, then reinstalling Mac OS X with an Erase and Install.
See the article I cited above for details. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
To avoid having to reinstall in situations like this, as funds permit you should consider investing in:
    • Implementing a comprehensive backup and recovery solution. For advice on the backup and recovery solution I employ, see my "Backup and Recovery" FAQ.
    • Alsoft DiskWarrior and TechTool Pro.
    Good luck!

My friend had this problem and he just went into his payment information to make sure it was accurate and up to date. He didn't even change anything, only reentered his security code. He then downloaded the app successfully. Thought that might help you.

  • Can't install OSX from OS 9.1

I have done a clean install of OS9.1 but when I try to install OS 10.0.3 my ibook (dual USB) asks me to restart to do the install but as it is booting up it shuts down soon after the happy Mac screen appears. I have tried to resart by holding down the "C" key and by selecting the CD as the start up disk in the control panel. Every time the computer acts like it is reading the CD but then shuts off automatically once the happy Mac screen is up. Any suggestions? is this a OS X CD problem?
thanks for any help or suggestions.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
First off 10.0.3 is too old a version of Mac OS X to run anything. Most consider Mac OS X unusuable until Mac OS X 10.2 or later. Whether it is the CD or not, I would not install 10.0.3 because of its relatively beta state.
Secondly, upgrading to Mac OS 9.2.2 gives you better support for Classic if you are going to use it. Here are the updates to 9.2.2:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75288
Your Mac can upgrade up to 10.4.7, though you'd want to upgrade the RAM to at least 512 MB. Also free up at least 5 GB of hard disk space and backup your data. You can have a professional install up to 160 GB hard drive in your iBook if that's what you want to do. Use the retail installer disks of 10.2 or later. The 10.2 disks are white with Jaguar fur X logo, and the Panther and Tiger are black with white and gray X logo. None of the ones you'd want say upgrade on them. Check the software you want to use in Mac OS X whether or not it has a Mac OS X upgrade, and whether or not it will work with your iBook, and get those upgrades first. Backup your data before installing Mac OS X. Here are some good resources I wrote about:

  • Can't install OSX from my install discs...

As I've done with all of my six previous Mac laptops, I connected my new MacBook Pro to my G4 Desktop and zeroed the drive with Apple's Disk Utility. After I booted with the install disc that came with my MacBook Pro, I was only able to get as far as choosing the hard drive to install to. Over my newly zeroed drive was an exclamation point within a red oval that informed me that I couldn't install OSX on this hard drive. I've never had this happen before.
BTW, I can't even boot from the Techtool Deluxe disc that I got with my AppleCare.
Any ideas before I go to the Apple Store?
    Thanks in advance.

Yep. Just like Ethan said you've partitioned your drive with a "Apple Partition Map" which is for PowerPC based Macs.
You need to repartition using "GUID Partition Table". You can do this by choosing the options button on the partition tab in disk utility.

  • Can not install software from Mac with Parallels

I have a Mac and I am running Parallels. I am running Windows 2000 in a virtual environment. Parallels recognizes other usb devices but not my 8330 Blackberry curve. It does not detect the device. If you go under device manager it shows the usb port with a question mark. If you open it there is a code 28. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the software with no luck. i have tried desktop 4.3, 4.5, and 4,6 with no luck. I have tried updating the driver still no luck. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Note: I am using  version 4.0 of Paralllels.

I had a similar problem recognizing and syncing my BB Curve 8330, but running XP under Parallels ver 3.0. I spent two days trying several versions of DM all the way up to 4.7 with no success. Then, I read in another post that Desktop manager would recognize and sync my BB Curve 8330 under Parallels 4.0 (I had 3.xx) so I upgraded and it worked!
    Good luck!

  • Can't install OSX  on a hard drive

I connected a small HD (10GB) in a Firewire external case. Wanted to install Jaguar onto this small HD. Initialized the HD. A message read, "You can not install Mac OSX on this disk. You cannot start up your computer using this disk."
Didn't notice the jumpers, might this be the reason I am given the message above, perhaps it does not have the correct jumper settings?
At first, when I put the 10GB HD into the Mac, it did not show up in X, then I put the jumpers in the Master position, all was well until I used 9.2.2 and this HD doesn't show up on the desktop.
Many appreciations for reading this post.
    Patt

Mac OS X has common drivers built in, but OS 9 requires a driver be installed before it can mount a Hard drive.
If you are running OS 9 you can use Drive Setup to "Update Driver" if permitted. Otherwise, you will have to initialize the drive, which partitions, installs a driver, and creates a directory. Use HFS+ Extended mode.
If you are using Mac OS X, use Disk Utility, HFS+Extended mode, and be sure that the box for "Install Mac OS 9 Drivers is checked. They don't take up much space and you cannot do it later.
If the drive is used, I recommend selecting "Write Zeroes" or "Zero all Data" This process takes several hours, but forces the drive to write a known pattern into every block and verify that it can be read back without resorting to error-correction Hardware. If error correction is required, the block is declared bad and a spare block is substituted at the Drive Hardware level.

  • Can NOT install Standard ONE on a 2 quad-core processor machine (licensing)

This is from Oracle's licensing (July 2009):
    ===================================
“When licensing Oracle programs with Standard Edition One or Standard Edition in the product name, a processor is counted equivalent to a socket. However, in the case of multi-chip modules, each chip in the multi-chip module is counted as one occupied socket.”
This is also from Oracle's licensing (July 2009):
    =====================================
“Oracle Database Standard Edition can only be licensed on servers that have a maximum capacity of 4 sockets. Oracle Standard Edition One may only be licensed on servers that have a maximum capacity of 2 sockets.”
Now, this is what it seems to be:
    ===========================
1 quad-core AMD/Intel Xeon chip counts as 4x0.5=2 sockets (reached the maximum capacity limit in the licensing terms) by simply using 1 (single) quad-core CPU box.
and that's it - you can NOT install Standard Edition ONE on a 2 quad-core CPU Linux box :(((((
    For a AMD/Intel multi-core Linux boxes
    ===============================
it can be a single quad-core CPU box (4x0.5=2 sockets -- but, paying twice the processor license - because it is now 2 sockets) or
it can be a 2 dual-core CPU (2X2x0.5=2 sockets -- but, paying twice the processor license) or
it can be a single dual-core CPU box (2x0.5=1 -- paying only a single processor license)
I think it is time for Oracle to revisit the licensing terms for Standard ONE edition and change it to simple socket count (don't count the cores). It is getting more expensive to use Oracle Standard ONE.

Everybody should also know - and OPN folks confirmed this morning - that an Oracle Sales person does not have the "legal" authority to overwrite what is written in OLSA. Sales can not rewrite the OLSA. However, Sales can request changes or addendums to the specific contract, which are reviewed by Oracle Legal and approved by Sales senior management (right up to Charles and Larry if needed).
That said, very few Oracle employees are allowed to discuss any aspect of licensing terms. The official first point of contact is Sales, and they may only be the carrier pigeon of missives from the authority.
When someone buys Oracle, OLSA is the only legally binding document. Everybody should keep the copy of the OLSA which is in effect at the time of their purchase, given that OLSA can be modified at a later date from the actual purchase. That happens to be true of any license or sales agreement, from Oracle or not. Also note that if you purchase support, renewals may affect the original OLSA.
And it's one of the reasons old timers in these forums (such as Dan and myself) will prefix nearly any license discussion in the forums with "check with sales" and suffix it with "and anything you hear on the internet is probably useless in a court of law when you get audited".
and after all that - thanks for digging into the details and posting them.

By the way - what you write is a change of policy. At one time, a box that could support 4 CPU but only had 2 CPU installed would not qualify for SE1. Good news indeed.

  • Oracle forms 6i (Pentium 4, Win98) "Can not install"

I have a "customized" Oracle interface that was created in Oracle forms 6. I have successfully used this form on Windows 95 Clients but now I must switch to a Windows 98 O/S on a Pentium 4 machine. I actually had to download a special Oracle Installer to install the 8i Client, but I now need to load a newer version of the Forms "run-time" and can not install it from the 6i forms download. Any suggestions would be more than appreciated.

Forms 6i installation in Windows98 should not give any trouble. Hope you
have checked the memory. You should have 128MB memory to install
Forms6i. In Runtime you may not actually require that much of memory but
to install you reuire that (Please see Hardware requirement for Form6i).

I can not install updates for Adobe 9 Pro

When you can not install the updates from the Help menu, go to http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows (similar for MAC) and install the updates in order. It is a good idea to download from the most recent back in case there are any you can skip (each updates indicates the prior version required). You generally need to reboot only after the last update.

Pls help what it does it: I click on the app store, it will allow me to pick the app I want to install (e.g. facebook, then it gives me the option to download, i.e. 'Free' but the free is with a plus sign i.e. "+Free"  then when I click on it, the "Install" appears but partially like "insta..." then am stuck can't install or do anything, anyone with idea on how to resolve this?
P.S. I have not upgraded to IOS 4
I have tried to restart my phone so many times,
I have logged out and re-logged into the app store on my iphone.
    thanks much

Log out of the Apple ID on your iPhone.
Reset your iPad by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears.
Log back into to your Apple ID with the current password.
