So I upgraded my harddrive a few months ago...Now everytime (or mostly everytime) it start up my computer my DVD super drive ejects the cd that is in it. Its never done this before I upgraded. Is there a setting somewhere or something I did wrong?
I dont need the advice to take the CD out of the drive...it lived in the drive for 3 years before I upgraded my harddrive...

I can't figure out why it's doing this as till December 2013 it was doing fine? I had to reinstall OX and Maverics as my Laptop was lost and recovered and I had actioned erase all data.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

If you suspect it could be the latter, you may just have to replace the optical drive, or add an external one that supports Mac OS X utility booting, and not use possible rootkit CDs again.

  • Help, DVD Driver keeps ejecting DVD and requesting a Blank, I insert a Blank and the same message keeps coming up, any suggestions ?

DVD Driver keeps ejecting DVD and requesting a Blank, I insert a Blank and the same message keeps coming up, any suggestions ?

    Hi
    a. You are using Cheap media as Memorex, NoName etc DVDs - I only use Verbatim
    b. You use a DL-DVD or DVD+/-RW type of media - Old Macs can not use DL-DVDs - I only use DVD-R
    c. Your DVD-burner needs a cleaning - Cleaning DVD without liquid but the brush type
    d. Is there OK free space on Your Start-Up (Macintosh HD) hard disk - I never go less than 25Gb free.
    e. Can You describe the material used to create Your DVD
    - Video Codec/s
    - Photo file formats
    - Audio file formats
iDVD can not use all but only a few of them - still it tries and then often fails
    Just to start by.

  • Dvd drive wont eject - using windows 7 - G50-70 i5

Im having problems with my dvd drive.  Have seen a few similar posts on here but I cant get anything to work.  The drive did initially work, but now I have installed windows 7, it wont eject.  The drive can read discs.  When I press the eject button, the light comes on, and I get the usual noise of the drive, but it wont eject.  It will eject using a paperclip, but not using eject under my computer.  Ive installed the lenovo eject utility, but no idea how to use it, but I dont think that having to go into the bios everytime or to use a paperclip is acceptable on a new laptop.  Would be grateful for any tips to try before I send it back.  For example, where can you download a mat**bleep**a driver or firmware update? Ive searched but they dont seem to have a website.  All I seem to get is lots of utilities that want paying for downloading anything.  Many thanks for any help, Tristan

    hi Tristan,
    Welcome to the Forums.
AFAIK, when you press the eject button, it sends a signal to the logic board, and the logic board sends a function to the eject machanism to release the tray. From your observation, it's likely that there's a mechanical or other physical failure inside the ODD that's preventing the tray to eject.
The Lenovo Eject Utility on the other hand is design for Thinkpads (haven't tested this on Ideapads units) and its function is the same when you right click on the DVD Icon and chooe Eject.

I recommend you contact lenovo and report your findings as you may likely need to send the unit for service.

  • Macbook DVD drive repeats eject sequence even when empty

Giving an old macbook (first model, white, 2006) away to a friend. He wanted Windows7 on it (don't ask ) so I got a copy from him and installed. Decided to use the bootcamp of Snow Leopard above Leopard, since Windows7 wasn't released yet when Leopard was released. Still I was a bit ambivalent as I didn't know if it would be suited to the rather old hardware of the macbook. All seemed to go well but after installation of the drivers of the Bootcamp CD I ejected the dvd drive and it started acting weird. What it does now is it keeps ejecting the drive, whether there's a cd in there or not. When I inject a cd (or dvd, no difference), I have to wait for the eject/load sequence to play out since it's locking the cd drive in between. When the cd/dvd is in, the drive won't read it, instead it will rumble a bit and eventually (about 20 seconds) spit out the CD.
Seems like a rather small coincidence that the drive, after all these years, would fail at this exact moment in time.... thinking there's something else to blaim but not sure how to proceed. What are your tips?

Nobody have any ideas or suggestions as to what steps I might undertake to solve this? Anything is helpful, thanks!

  • After Leopard upgrade problem w/dvd drive and wake from sleep

    Hi,
Bought a NEW install disk to upgrade my 15" Aluminum PB (1.67gh, 1 GB Ram,) from 10.3.9. Upgrade went fine, then again did an online upgrade fo software from 10.5 to 10.5.8. Mostly running well. However! There are two problems:
    1. The DVD drive no longer workds, it just spits out DVDs. Now I never had a problem with it before the upgrade and I actually used it for the upgrade dvd. I'm talking, like 5 minutes after the upgrade completed the drive no longer accepts DVDs.
    2. My PB was always a sleepy fellow, like many PB, having some problems every now and again waking from sleep. But this is now almost consistent, every time. And usually I could hear fan noise, or at least a spinning drive. This is just black screen and, even with the lid open, the white light keeps pulsing. Even the restart button does nothing, and I have to unplug it and remove the battery. Then, of course, it will boot up fresh.
Any ideas on either of these two annoyances?
Thanks in advance for your help,
    Debbie

If the PRAM battery hasn't been replaced in the last 4 years, check to see that it is.  That may be a costly operation, so call around.

  • Snow Leopard upgrade and now DVD problems in WinXP partition

I upgraded to Snow Leopard (finally) on my Mac partition. The first time I tried to play a DVD I was asked to change the region from 1 to 4, which I did, unfortunately, without checking it out first (I've since discovered I should have set it to 'ignore' DVD Player). Now my Windows XP partition won't recognise my DVD drive and I can't reinstall it - I get an error message about a corrupt Registry. I can't see how I can change the region back to Region 1, as I have no Region 1 DVDs (it tells me I'm allowed 4 more changes).  I've searched these communities and can't find any not-too-technical answers. I don't want to run the risk of making things worse.  I would be very grateful for any help as I need to work in Windows  for my job.  Many thanks.

Confirmed that iCal 4.0 (packaged with Snow Leopard) breaks when used with the Cosmo CalDAV server (http://chandlerproject.org/Projects/CosmoDevelopmentHome). Before in iCal 3.x it worked fine. When attempting to update a calendar I now get the message:
"You can't change events or to do items in the $calendar calendar."
I'd encourage Apple to test iCal with other popular CalDAV servers before releasing it as it is supposed to be compatible with open standards.

  • Updated my HP Laptop to Windows 8 and now DVD driver will not work. Help!

I have a Hp Pavilion dv-7013cl Entertainment PC and everything was working perfectly. I updated to Windows 8 about a month ago and had some problems. I then did a clean install of Windows 8 and now all the bugs are fixed except my DVD drive will not work.
I insert a DVD or CD and nothing happens. I go to My Computer and click on it and it just ejects the DVD. I don't know what to do and need my DVD drive.
Also, I tried to go to device manager and reinstall the driver but that didn't help.

    Hi Crosby,

  • Open DVD drive without eject key?

I'm working on a PowerMac G5 (OSX 10.4.7) with a custom keyboard that doesn't have an eject key for the DVD drive. How does one open the drive without this key?
    Thanks.

You could try F12 - if it has one...

  • Pavilion Slimline DVD drives and eject wire...

I tried to replace the DVD drive on my Pavilion Slimline with an HP dvd1270i DVD drive. Had no problems installing it until I tried to plug the eject wire to a plug on the new DVD drive. Problem is, there's no plug on this drive to attach the eject wire to. The DVD drive that originally came with the Slimline does have this plug. Can someone recommend a DVD drive for the Slimline that does have a plug for the eject wire? Or is there a way to transfer the plug from the old drive to the new drive? Thanks in advance...

I have similar problem on my micro PC case from HP
CD rom tray has not mechanical device for ejecting media but electrical switch instead.
There is no chance to reach eject button on DVD ROM, because it's hidden under doors on the case.
And that {Content Removed: Language Filter Evasion}non standard HP connector for opening CD used on case is not compatible with any DVD ROM I can find in my local store including HP products.
And nobody knows anything about that.

  • My Mac Mini won't acknowledge Snow Leopard disk to upgrade OS. DVD drive works fine.

Purchased my Mini January 2009 with 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor w/ 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. Trying a long-overdue upgrade from OS 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard, the computer won't acknowledge the disk, and the DVD drive runs other disks.
According to other links here, I should be able to upgrade through OS 10.7 without problem, correct? (FYI, I have four USB ports on this thing.) Also, I noticed my Snow Leopard disk - purchased from Apple, not bootleg - is 10.6.3, which is what they shipped when I said OS 10.5.8 is in here. Am I missing an earlier version than 10.6.3? In any case, the disk just grinds awhile, then spits out. Nothing ever shows on the display.
I have 59 gigs of internal hard drive space available.
I'm not really tech savvy, so any thoughts?

Thanks for your response, and good call! I discovered the Mini will acknowledge other DVDs that I know have content, but displays them as blank; otherwise, it won't open/run anything. It's more than I knew before.
Looks like I'm heading to the Apple shop.

  • Cd/dvd drive keeps ejecting cd/dvd!!!

My cd/dvd drive is going crazy. Soon after i put a cd or dvd in the drive, it spits it back out. it sounds as though it is trying to read the disc, but fails. My drive was working normal earlier today, then it went crazy?!? i am not too computer savvy...HELP!

Like I said I was having problems with the drive called AppleCare they told me to do some things I already done they included...
    Resetting PRAM and NVRAM
    Shut down the computer.
Holding down the Command(Apple), Option, P, and R and then hold the Power button simultaneously, and told me to do that 3 times and wait for 3 loud buzzing (or some odd sound I can't describe).
Also Resetting System Management Controller (SMC)
Was told to shutdown and disconnect the AC Adapter and remove the computer's battery after that I had to press and hold down the power button for 5 seconds(I did 10 seconds) and then release the button, then reconnect the battery and AC Adapter and to restart the system.
I was asked to try the drive again and it did not work when I was talking on the phone with the person, they said they could not do any thing becasue I was out of warranty but I asked to talk to a manager or someone higher about all my problems with the MacBook and see if I could get a new unit and he said yes and put me on wait but when I was on wait I tried out the drive again and it worked again.
I do not know if it good again for the long run or it fail and just because of that! This is one of my least trusted Apple systems, for having the plastic replaced, having a hard drive go dead, and having the AC adapter switched out for a different one, and now this drive. This is one odd Apple system!

  • Two IDE dvd drives one eject key....

Hi i just added another dvd burner (internal style IDE) to my emac.... my question is how do I eject the internal one now? the external one is now ejected with the keyboard eject button... but the external has a button on the drive that i could push.... the internal however has no button and no way of opening it... anyone know how to open it?

    Dominic Frascella..
You may need to set one up as a Master (Internal is best, without working buttons) and the other as a Slave. I do not believe the buss state can be reliable otherwise.
    Re: Ardiem...
Ardiem places an icon in the Menu Bar as per image below. I thought the same thing till I looked up and seen 3 of them after 3 launches. Like the dock you can drag it off and it "poofs".

PS I recomend the external share the HD buss as 2 opticals may clash on the same buss. Also I would consider a FW enclosure, as moving things around it is possible to short something out.
