Upgrade HDD - Satellite Pro 4270
Is it possible to upgrade HDD more than 6 GB? Thanks
Hello
Unfortunately there is no public document about HDD upgrade but i presume that 10 or even 12 GB HDD should work well.

Memory Upgrade on Satellite Pro A10
Can anyone advise me as to the correct RAM type to upgrade my Satellite Pro A10. Its a standard 256mB at the minute and I'm thinking of slotting in an additional 512mB next to it - but am bemused by the array of memory types and nomenclatures - DDR - SODIMM etc !!!
Handy with the screw drivers but not so hot with the acronyms. Many thanks to you all out there who know the score!Hi
I understand you very well and sometimes Im also a little bit confused because of the whole notations in the computer world.
The Sat Pro A10 supports 200-Pin PC2700 (333Mhz) DDR SODIMM modules and you can upgrade the memory on this notebook up to 1024MB (2 x 512MB)
You could check this memory module page:

Satellite Pro 4270 Update Win ME to Win XP
Dear All,
I want to do an update of my laptop Satellite Pro 4270 from Win ME to XP. If I start the XP update, the program
starts but a message appears: "Toshiba GSXS Device system component Satellite Pro 4200...if You go ahead with the
update, it could be possible that one or more devices/ system components arent working anymore.., please update
the system..."
What can I do, to do the update correctly, that means, that the system components are working with the new XP-System?
Are there updates concerning this problem available?
Thanks for Your assistance.

GermanyHi
I was also not able to find any drivers for the Win XP for this unit.
However, if you want to install the WinXP you can do it but as said above some functions could not work.
The last possibility is to check other notebook series and try to install the drivers from other notebooks which support the same devices.
Maybe youre successful. -

Memory upgrade on Satellite Pro A200
Have two Satellite Pro A200 #PSAE1E-00T002EN laptops and wanted to know if I can upgrade the 2 x 1GB memory to 2 x 2GB?
As I understand you request, you want to upgrade the notebooks memory to 4GB.
Well, I think its not possible.
The Satellite Pro A200 supports max 2GB RAM (2 x 1GB) so you will be not able to use 2 x 2GB modules.
Best regards dude -
Memory upgrade on Satellite Pro L40-15d
Hi
I have Satellite Pro L40-15d with 512 memory (Samsung) but I wont upgrade to 1GB. I have Kingston ktt667d2/1g I have tray to put in to both slots but nothing work I cant switch on computer.
But when I change for old one laptop is ok. What can I do? Install special program or update BIOS or maybe the memory stick is broken.
RegardsHi
The notebook doesnt boot after the memory upgrade due to these different issues;
- memory modules are not compatible together
- memory modules are not compatible with the notebook
- memory modules are faulty
- one of memory slots is faulty
In most case the memory module replacement helps.
One hint; did you try to switch the memory modules in the slots? Sometimes this helps.
Several weeks ago I have updated my memory and the notebook didnt boot.
I thought its a memory malfunction but after module switching the notebook booted correctly.
Good luck -
Memory upgrade on Satellite Pro A40
Can anyone please advise where is the best place I can get a memory upgrade for my Satellite Pro A40 laptop.
I think my machine is a PC2700 DDR. I am looking for either 512mb or 1gb.
Thanks in advance.
ChristineHi
On the Satellite Pro A40 you will find 2 memory slots and you can upgrade the memory to max 2GB (2x1024MB)
It should be possible to use these modules:
PC2100 512MB (PA3164U-1M51)
PC2100 1GB (PA3278U-1M1G)
And
PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-1M51)
PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G
I purchase the compatible parts and devices always form the Toshiba service partner in my country because so I'm 100% sure that this parts are compatible.
So I would recommend you also to buy the modules form the ASP in your country. -
Upgrading Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 hard drive
Hi
I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A10. It is an old laptop, but rather than change it, I would like to install a new hard drive. I have previously put in new RAM to this laptop, but I know the Hard drive change is more complex, so I need as much help as I can get
The laptop is running well, but the 20GB HDD is obviously too small. I have an external USB hard drive for multimedia stuff etc, but the main HDD, even with just the Windows XP and other software on it is always near to the 20GB and the time has come to change
I know I can handle the 'hardware' changeover without much problem. I am intending to get a USB enclosure to allow a clone of the old drive to be copied to the new one, so that when I do install it, the only difference to the laptop will be the larger storage capacity on the internal HDD
I have read extensively about the variety of issues and I am still quite confused. The main issues for me seem to be
-Whether the BIOS affects the type of internal HDD I can install
-I am fairly sure the interface I need is ATA-100/IDE. So does this mean I cannot use SATA?
-What size of HDD can I install? Is there a limit?
-Does the current internal HDD have partitions? I am not sure? It is the same as it was when I bought it, so would Toshiba have put a partition on it containing OS or software? I don't know. I have 'recovery discs' but no Specific windows disc, as one did not come with the laptop. So considering this, how do I go about 'cloning' the old drive onto the new, and then installing it 'seamlessly'?
-Do I need specific software for a 'clone'? Otherwise, how do I do it?
-What do I need to look for in a HDD, when buying? Some sellers seem to see potential issues to do with the capacity, others do not. Im confused
So, as I say, all I want, is to get a larger internal HDD and install it without problems. Im willing to do the work involved, but only when Im confident I have all the necessary information and 'boxes ticked'. Otherwise I fear it may be a disaster.
I am not able to afford to buy a new laptop, so all help is very much appreciated
All advice welcome. Also, if you have any questions just ask
Thanks in advance
JasonCan you provide the COMPLETE model number and the part number for that model? I don't want to give you any incorrect information. The part number would look like this. PSA10U-3V1JG8
But based on what you have stated so far I would say you need an EIDE or ATA hard drive. Due to bios limitations that I am 95% certain will be in place with your model you will be limited to a 120GB or smaller 9.5mm thick 2.5" ATA/EIDE hard drive. I recommend Western Digital Scorpio BLue drives for their combination of price, performance, and reliability.
Once you post the model and part number I can verify this so you can order the correct drive for you system.
Western Digital has a free version of Acronis True Image that you can download that you can use to clone your old drive to your new drive if you purchase a WD drive.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time. -
Memory Upgrade on Satellite Pro A60
I have upgraded an A60 Pro with a 1GB memory up but the Control Panel /System/ General tab still shows it as having 192MB RAM. This limits me downloading some Security Software from BT Yahoo.
Can anyone advise on how I can make the machine recognise the new RAM or is the 192 MB RAM noted different memory from the new memory upgrade? If you use non-compatible RAM module it is logic that system can not recognize it correctly. I do not know who is the manufacturer of this 1 GB RAM module but if you want to use compatible one pick up some info about PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G) or check Kingston web page.

Need repair manual for CD-rom upgrade on Satellite Pro L20
Hi
Is there anywhere I can download a repair manual for the Satellite Pro L20 as I've just purchased a dvdrw drive & want to fit it myself
TIAHi
Unfortunately, you will not find any repair manuals on the Toshiba website. Only the Toshiba service partners have such documents and have possibility to use notebook manuals.
As far as I know the drive is secured with a screw which is placed at the bottom of the unit and under the keyboard.
After removing of these two screws you can disconnect an optical drive from the connector on the system board.
But without any experience you should remove any drives. I think you should ask the Toshiba service to help you because he has more experience in such cases -

Memory Upgrade at Satellite Pro A120-185 PSAC1E
The original installed memory of 1GB in my trusty old A120 is now becoming a bit of a limiting factor and I want to upgrade it to the full 4GB. I've checked on this site and it says that the memory runs at 533 MHz.
However looking at various other websites it suggests that certain varieties of this laptop can run memory running at 667 MHz - depending on its region!
Does anybody know which the correct speed is?
Obviously I'd like to put faster RAM in it when I upgrade it, but if it can't run it, I don't particularly want to waste money on memory I can't use.
Thanks in advance.
TonyHi
> However looking at various other websites it suggests that certain varieties of this laptop can run memory running at 667 MHz - depending on its region!
Everything depends on the FSB (front side bus)
If the FSB would allow the 667Mhz then the memory modules would run also on 667Mhz. If the FSB supports only 533Mhz then your modules will run max at 533Mhz even if the modules would support 667Mhz.
Simply said; the FSB can slow down the memory speed.

Hard disk not detected on Satellite Pro 4270
I took out the 2"5 hard disk from my SP4270 to transfer data to my PC through a 3"5-2"5 EIDE adapter, the HD was detected by my PC bios and the transfer was successful.
Then I reinserted my hard disk into the 2"5 notebook bay, but I get a "Insert system disk in drive." message.
I checked the boot priority in the setup and it shows a HDD->CD->FDD sequence.
In the bios DRIVES section I see HDD = Primary IDE(1F0H/IRQ14).
I extracted and reinserted again the hard disk, but with no result.
What could be the problem?I removed the power connection and I didn't remove the battery, but it was completely uncharged. Could have been the presence of the battery the reason why the hard disk lost partition data.
Anyway I solved using testdisk (http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk): it found an error in the partition sector and boot sector, and it was able to find partition data and a boot sector backup and to restore both. Now I have my disk back with all its content.
Thanks a lot -
Can someone tell me if it's possible to upgrade the graphics card in an A10 and if it is then what would you recomend for gaming? Cheers.
Hi alex
As far as I know it is not possible. The notebook construction is not so expandable like at desktops.
Sorry but in my opinion there is no way to upgrade performance of graphic card. Only thing what you can try is to look for some actual driver for it on producer site. But you must be careful. It is not tested by Toshiba and there is no guarantee that it will be better or that it will work properly.
