Upgrade Help please!!!
I am having to use an external drive to install Tiger onto the iMac as it does not have a DVD drive. However, the external DVD drive is connected via USB and not Firewire so I understand the iMAc will not boot from it.
At the moment the iMac has os 10.1. Is it possible to partition part of the disk and load Tiger onto that partition and then delete the 10.1 partition and get the machine to boot from the tiger partition??
If so, HOW do I do this task?

Hi,
Connect the two machines with a 6pin-to-6pin Firewire cable.
MacBook: Insert the Tiger disc
Macbook: Go to Apple menu > System Preferences... > Startup Disk > 'Target Disk Mode'. The MacBook will restart in Target Mode.
iMac: Power on and hold the Alt ⌥ key down.
iMac: Select the Install disc to boot from.
iMac: Run the Installer for an Archive and Install.
iMac: When you are at the OS X desktop eject the Install disc.
Disconnect the firewire cable.
MacBook: Power down using the power button.

Broken Bonjour with Canon MF4350d after 10.6 upgrade - Help Please.
I have been using a Canon 4350d with no problems with 10.5.8 - including Printer Sharing (Bonjour). Now, after updating to 10.6 (now 10.6.2) I can still print fine, but I have lost all Printer Sharing. All settings appear to be right, and my other macs appear to be printing through the one connected via USB to the printer, but it never goes through. HELP Please. Thank you.
According to the UFR2 User Guide on page 2-8, the driver can be removed from the Mac by trashing the following folders. Note that you should delete the print queue first, by opening Print & Fax, selecting the MF model in the Printers list and pressing the minus button.
System Volume > Library > Printers > Canon > UFR2
System Volume > Library > Launch Agents > jp.co.canon.UFR2.BG.plist
System Volume > Library > Printers > PPDs > Contents > Resources > en.lproj > CNTD**Z*2.ppd.gz
(where * indicates the printer model and 2 indicates the language of driver used)
With these files removed you can then empty the trash, although you may have to open Activity Monitor and stop the 'UFR II Backgrounder' service before you are able to remove all the files from the trash.
With the v2.10 driver removed you are ready to add another driver. However you need to be aware that the v1.80 driver cannot be used on 10.6. If you were using it previously then it would suggest that the 10.6 Mac was an upgrade from 10.5 rather than a clean 10.6 install. On a clean 10.6 Mac, then v1.80 driver will not operate correctly.
What you may be able to do is have the v1.80 driver installed on a Mac running Leopard and shared. You may then be able to use the v2.10 driver on the Snow Leopard Mac's to print to the Leopard share using the v1.80 driver. Note that I haven't tried this so I cannot say if this will work for you. Personally I always ensure I get a printer with Ethernet or wireless support so that I can avoid printer sharing... -
G3 Monitor saying "out of range" after itunes upgrade - HELP PLEASE
I'm running a G3 with 512RAM. It has been running Panther totally reliably for a year. I upgraded to 10.3.9 and the G3 ran no problem. I upgraded to the latest Itunes, restarted the G3 and now after the tones the monitor turns black with the message "out of range" refering to the frequency setting. I can hear to G3 drive running but I cant progress beyond this message on the monitor. Please help...have I lost my G3 for ever? is there a safe mode I can start the G3 in? I have the Panther discs but I don't seem able to do anything to start this G3 now. Please help..I love this Mac, I dont want to loose it, don't mind loosing the data, but not the mac..any ideas..please

Restart whilst holding Command/option/p/r keys and release after second tones. Suggest changing internal battery also. -
MS6340 Ver1.0E upgrade help please!
Hi, I have been trying to research some information on my motherboard and it's upgradability, this is what I know so far:
On the motherboard it says it's a MS6340 Ver:1, in WCPUID it is version 1.0E
This motherboard is part of a Packard Bell computer and is called the 'Halley'
Currently runs a 750mhz Duron AMD processor at 100/200mhz FSB
The bios is an AMI Ver 3.1 02/12/01.
(other information in my signature)
Now the questions I have in regards to this motherboard is:
1. Can I use the MS6340-M bios upgrade (apparently this is the model) or do I have to use the update provided specially by Packard Bell for the Halley mobo?
2. The support for this motherboard specifies that this mobo is only capable of 100mhz FSB, thus meaning I cannot upgrade to a CPU requiring 133mhz. However, on my motherboard, there is a jumper pin placement (JP9) which says OPEN=100mhz CLOSE=133mhz (the 2 pins are missing, but the location is marked next to the IDE port, with two solder points, as described in the MS6340-M manual downloaded). If this jumper is closed, will this enable 133mhz FSB?
3. Is the clock multiplier automatic in the BIOS or does the update contain the manual configuration option as described in the MS6340-M manual downloaded? If so, what is the maximum multiplier?
4. If the JP9 pin is enabled to 133mhz FSB, does the mobo provided the correct paramaters for a processor greater than 1ghz? (Duron 1400-1800mhz, Athlon XP?)

Some interesting questions ...
1. This appears to be an OEM board, produced for Packard-Bell. I would not recommend to flash an MSI BIOS - stick to the Packard-Bell BIOS. All unless you are willing to take considerable risk in losing the board, of course.
2. My guess would be that you would need a BIOS and a closed bridge to achieve 133 MHz FSB (Often the board will run 100 with the jumper present and 133 with the jumper remove - the other way around, actually). You could try to open a BIOS file with a BIOS editor and look for the possibility so change this setting. The chance of success will be very very limited, I'm afraid.
3. For the multipliers to be functional you will need to unlock the CPU. There are several unlocking guides around. I am not aware of guides for the new Durons, btw.

Your questions make me wonder why you want to do this - for very moderate prices you can buy mobos which will support the CPUs you are planning to use (Turbo2, some other boards also). If it is only a hobby project: go ahead and PLEASE report the outcome.
NB: Be aware that the 6340 board was one of the board types that was produced using bad capacitors ... using the board under heavy load (as you will do with higher FSB and more powerful CPUs) might seriously affect the survival rate of caps on the board (but it appears that you are not afraid of a soldering iron anyway . -
i wish to upgrade to imovie 9.0.4 but the upgrade is only possible if i already have version 9.0.0. therefore i need advice please on how to upgrade in sequences from8.0.6 or are there anyother ways to do this please.? I read that with version of imovie 9.0.0 or later that i can transfer my hd and lesser resolution movies.

IWeb O8 Won't Publis After Upgrade- Help Please
Hey All,
So I finally upgraded to iWeb 08 and now my sites won't publish at all. Every time I select Publish or Publish All it goes through the paces connects then goes through updating all of the pages and then reaches the publishing in the background message. After that it stalls for 20 minutes and then I get this message "iWeb couldn't connect to .mac. Make sure your internet connection works & try again."
I've been trying to figure it out for 3 nights and I'm going crazy as my wife is pregnant and due this week and I will want to update the family site. First it should be said that I can surf any and all web sites.
I've searched the forums and the web and tried the following:
-unplugging my rouuter and letit reset
-unplugging my modem and let it reset
-checking the keychain for iWeb (it is correct)
-repairing the keychain
-Verify disk permissions
-Repairing disk permissions
-deleting this file User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iweb.plist
-Made sure my password is only 8 characters
I don't know what else to do. Any help or guidance to rectify this would be supremely appreciated.

LukeSo I found a solution and wanted to share so others can fix this if they have the same problem.
My iWeb was corrupted and although this sounds very basic it did the trick for me. Copy the iWeb Domain from library/Application Support/iWeb.
Then paste it on your desktop. Then copy it back into the folder that it came from over the original domain.
This simple trick worked for me so I hope it works for you. -
ICal and server upgrade Help please.

I am running 10.5.2 server on a dual G4 tower and in particular iCal, which has been running very well. I want to upgrade to a new iMac, and so far I have been unable to figure out how to successfully recreate all accounts (only 7) and re-use the account calendars (about 4350 events so far).
The upgrade and migration documents only cover 10.4.10 server going to 10.5 server, not 10.5.2 PPC server migrating to intel 10.5.2 server.
I can't clone as PPC disk format is apm and intel is guid.
Please tell me how to move the accounts from PPC to intel (?export admin and users, import admin and users?) and how to copy the calendars from PPC to intel to keep all the events.
Finally how do you get the individual user icals to reload the calendars once they have been binded by directory utility.

I'm guessing it's the 700MHz model since you said it only has 128MB RAM. You can upgrade the OS to Tiger 10.4, but, you need to upgrade the RAM to at least 512MB (1GB would be better). The spec page at the above link has a link to OWC, a good source for RAM.
However, Tiger install DVDs are in short supply. Tiger is no longer available at the Apple Store but may be available for $129 by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753). For other sources, do a Google search for MA453Z/A (10.4.6), MA190Z/A (10.4.3) and M9639Z/A (10.4) . Also look on eBay. Be sure & buy a retail version (black with silver X) and not a model specific version (gray) (See Can I use another Mac's system restore disc on my Mac? ). Expect to pay (possibly a lot) more than the Apple list price of $129.

Be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings. Also, repair permissions before and after the install.

All day calendar events not being displayed in the notification centre for iphone 5 post ios 7 upgrade. Please help. Is it a bug?
With iOS 6, the all day events showed up in the notification centre but it lacks in the upgrade iOS 7.Same problem here. Some people pointed out that all-day events do show up in their notification center, but that seems only to be the case for birthdays (and only as text like the weather). I've tried it myself on my iPhone and iPad and it did work for birthdays but not for any other all-day events. I already sent this to Apple as a product feedback as well, as should everyone of you. The more people mention it, the faster Apple's going to fix this issue. In its current state, notification center is not a very helpful feature in my opinion. There's absolutely no point in not showing all-day events in the 'today' calendar overview.

If you are using Safari as a web browser :-
Open Safari, go to Safari menu > Preferences > General, and put Google as the homepage. Then, choose Google as your default search engine.
If you are using Google Chrome as the web browser :-
Open Google Chrome.
In the top right corner of the page, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu > Settings.
In the "Search" section, select Google from the drop-down menu.

iPhone 4 went into recovery mode when trying to restore it. Now the only option iTunes allows is for "restore & upgrade", it is not offer an option to restore from a backup, says that must first do the upgrade, when attempting to do the upgrade the iPhone won't accept it.
How can I restore from a back up in recovery mode when the only option is "restore and upgrade"?

Try holding down CTRL as you launch iTunes to see if it will repair the drivers.

HELP PLEASE!! Hard drive upgrade problem
Hi everyone. I under the direction of others bought an 60GB Powerbook Hard Drive 5400RPM HItachi upgrade from powerbookmedic.com. I bought my powerbook in early 2001 and when I took it apart and proceeded to load in the new hard drive I noticed that the new one did not have connector pins to hook up to the flex cable on the hard drive. Now am I am I missing something here or am I just a moron? I am really frustrated because the model I bought says that it fits with all Powerbook Titanium models. What am I missing? Help please!!!!!!!!!

So you removed the old drive, you detached the short flex cable from it, and now you find nothing on the new drive to connect the cable to? Am I understanding correctly?
If so, is it possible that the connector on the new drive is covered with some sort of temporary shield to protect it during packing, shipping and handling? If it is, the shield should come off if you pull it in the same direction you pulled the flex cable to detach it from your old drive.
I'm tempted to say you are surely missing something. For Hitachi to have shipped a drive that has no cable connector seems about as likely as for Toyota to have shipped a car with no tires installed, but I suppose anything is (barely) possible.
