Upgrade IDS (4.1- 5.1)

How to upgrade my IDS 4215 from v4.1 to v5.1?
Does my ciscowork be upgraded at same time?
Thanks

Hi .. as per the below link upgrading from 4.1 to 5.1 is two steps procedure.
1.- Upgrading from 4.1 to 5.0
2.- Upgrading from 5.0 to 5.1
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/vpndevc/ps4077/products_installation_guide_chapter09186a008055fc78.html
For upgrading from 4.1 to 5.0 youc an download the software to a local ftp server and follow the below steps.
Log in to the CLI using an account with administrator privileges.
Step 3 Enter configuration mode:
sensor# configure terminal
Step 4 Upgrade the sensor:
sensor# configure terminal
sensor(config)# upgrade ftp://FTPusername@ftp_serverIP_IP_ddress//directory path/IPS package name-pkg
Step 5 Enter the password when prompted:
Enter password: ********
Re-enter password: ********
Step 6 Type yes to complete the upgrade.
Note Major updates, minor updates, and service packs may force a restart of the IPS processes or even
force a reboot of the sensor to complete installation.
Step 7 Verify your new sensor version:
sensor# show version
Application Partition:
Cisco Intrusion Prevention System, Version 6.0(1)S149.0
NOTE: as of version5.X you need a license for getting signatures updates.
You can repeat similar procedure for upgrading from 5.0 to 5.1
I hope it helps .. please rate it if it does !!!!

  • Upgrading IDS 4210 from 4.1 to 5.2

I received the S253 sig update notification yesterday and for the first time it appears the text indicates that I can upgrade my IDS 4210 to the 5.2 version needed to have continued sig support. What is the upgrade path? What do I need to order? Everytime I use the PUT it only shows me the upgrade package for my current 4.1 version. I think I would much rather upgrade my current sensor than spend $$$ on purchasing a whole new one. Thanks.

Just to add a little more information.
The IDS-4210 has been End of Saled, but not yet End Of life.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/vpndevc/ps4077/prod_eol_notice09186a008032d508.html
The IDS-4210 IS capable of running IPS version 5.1 software and will continue to receive signature updates as long as IPS 5.1 signature updates continue to be created.
No date has yet been announced for when IPS 5.1 signature updates will stop, but I would expect no less that 18 months from now.
An IPS Service Contract and associated Signature Update License is required for installing signature updates in IPS 5.1.
If you already have an IPS Service Contract then you can upgrade to 5.1 and request the associated License for your sensor.
(NOTE: A Service Contract has always been required for the installation of signature updates, but was previously not enforced by software. It is now being enforced by the IPS 5.1 software through the use of the License received through the Service Contract)
As for memory requirements. The following is stated in the 5.0(1e) Readme file:
    - 512 MB of RAM memory on the IDS-4210, IDS-4210-K9, and IDS-4210-NFR (NOTE: this upgrade is no longer available as the IDS-4210-MEM-U= part has been end-of-saled).
If you previously upgraded to 512MB then you are fine.
If not, you would need to open the IDS-4210 and determine what the memory part number is and attempt to purchase additional memory matching that part number from any vendor that you can find (does not have to have been specifically sold by Cisco, but should match the part number of the memory already in the system). The memory is longer being manufactured so Cisco was no longer able to sell that part.
You should NOT attempt to install 5.0 or 5.1 on a sensor running only 256MB of memory. The sensor will never run properly.
    Specific upgrade files to use:
    http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/ips5
    IPS-K9-maj-5.0-1e-S149.rpm.pkg
    IPS-K9-min-5.1-1g.pkg
    IPS-K9-sp-5.1-3.pkg
If you do not already have an IPS Service Contract for your sensor, then you need to contact your Cisco Sales Representative. The last day you could have purchased a new service contract for the IDS-4210 was back on December 6, 2004.
Yoru Cisco Sales Representative may be able to give you a discount on upgrading your IDS-4210 to a newer IDS-4215.

  • Upgrading ids 4.1 to IPS 5

I have a 4235 with 4.1 I am trying to upgrade with IPS-K9-maj-5.0-1e-S149.rpm.pkg the sensor does it's reboot but in the end it just hangs on "uncompressing Linux....ok, booting the kernel" any idea why it stops there.

Call me stupid but I always have the same problem so I have got in the habit of backing up my config on the IDS and downloading the new .img file for the upgrades. I have had that happen to me way to many times.. It wont happen if you use the .img file though.. I promise you that ;)
Note: I said i backed up my IDS config because if you use the .img file you lose the config on the IDS as well.. Just an FYI.

  • IDS upgrade

    Hi
While trying to upgrade IDS 4235 (Version 4.1(1)S47) using FTP or IDM, it gives "Error: exp timeout" message. What could be the reason?
If the FTP server is a Windows XP machine, and the signature/service pack file is in C:\Inetpub\ftproot, what is the exact URL we have to specify with the upgrade command / IDM. Does it need to specify the relative directory or absolute directory in the URL?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards // Anoop

The ftp client logic in the 4.1(1) sensor was not very robust. It is probably not compatible with your ftp server. The ftp client in 4.1(5) and 5.x is much more robust. Here is a workaround until you get to 4.1(5):
    - from service account, manually ftp the upgrade pkg file over to the sensor (into /tmp directory for this example)
    - from cli "conf t; ssh host
    - now perform a "local upgrade using scp":
    up scp://service@//tmp/

  • Use Active FTP for signature updates

Is it possible to use active ftp opposed to passive when upgrading IDS signatures? I am running 4210s with v.4.1. During signature updates for some reason the FTP connection uses a random ephemeral port instead of port 21. When I ftp manaually from the service account with the PASS command to turn off passive ftp, the file transfers fine. ACLs are blocking the connection because the port always changes and I don't want to open up the ephemeral port range.
    Thanks,
    Joel

As far as I know, you can only use the passive ftp for the sig updates.

  • URGENT: iDS5, iMS5, NDS4: Catch-22?

We have just deployed iDS5 for a client; we are planning a very large
    number of
entries, so iDS5 was the only choice.
The client also needs bulk email services that use LDAP for group info,
    so we
planned to deploy iMS5. Here is the seeming Catch-22:
    1. We can't use NDS4 for the amount of Directory data we're planning
to load - so iDS5 is required.
    2. iMS5 won't work with iDS5 (at least not without major [unsupported]
schema changes); it is only supported with NDS4. Our attempts to get
iMS5 and iDS5 to work together have been unsuccessful.
    3. Though iDS5 supports legacy replication (NDS4.x-style changelogs), it
seems as though only NDS4 --> iDS5 replication is supported, not iDS5
    --> NDS4.
How can I integrate iMS5 and iDS5 in a supported way for my client?
Needless to say, this is highly frustrating, and our client will
probably not go with iMS5. Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Easiest way I've come across is to install iMS 5 with iDS 4 then upgrade
iDS 4 to iDS 5 after getting iMS up and running properly.

  • IMS 5.1 and iDS 4.13 Upgrade

    Hi all,
I'm putting together an environment for testing an upgrade from iMS 5.1 through to the current JES versions and I can't locate a copy of iMS 5.1 and iDS 4.13 - does anyone have a URL that they can be downloaded from?
I have them running in production but I'm looking for the original installation tar balls.
    Thanks.
    Cheers - Steve

The migration path from 4.1x to JES is non-trivial. I believe it's a two-stage upgrade, first to iDS 5.2 and then to JES. If I had to do this, I'd start with a fresh install of JES and then import my user data. You'll probably need to add/replace some attributes and objectclasses, but the Directory Server Resource kit (DSRK) has some nifty tools for doing this.
When I upgraded from 4.1x to iDS 5.2, I was migrating to a new box and it was just easier to do a fresh install. Besides, doing a fresh install means you can get away from the evil tarball and use the Sun package format and patch tools for future upgrades. Yes, there are patches for the tarball format, but I as I stated, I'm not a fan of the tarball install.
Another piece of advice, stick with schema 1. Then if you have the need, migrate to schema 2. Sun did a nice job of making schema 2 a seprate entity (for lack of a better term). In that going to schema 2 is a seperate set of procedures that you can do any time.

  • TS3297 How do I connect to iTunes or some reasons I have two IDs one for apply that isign in with then an iTunes ID  that they have me enter when trying to download an upgrade for App .  That ID Is not working because no matter how many times I reset it e

The error reads cannot connect to iTunes store at this time plz help I'm so lost!! rhiannonstthomas@me com

First of all, a word of advice, don't post your email on the internet, it'll only lead to trouble.
Second, you mention you have two apple IDs.  let's call them A & B.
I'm assuming you downloaded the app you wish to upgrade with 'A'  and you're currently using 'B' for whatever reason.  If that's the case, then there's nothing to be done, apps are associated with the Apple ID you used to buy them originally and can't be transferred to a new one. If you wish to upgrade an App you bought using your Apple ID 'A' you'll need that ID's password. The alternative would be to repurchase the said app with your new Apple ID, in this case 'B'.

  • Managing IDs: Upgraded iPad and now getting verify errors.

I recently upgraded from an iPad 2 to a new iPad.  I also upgraded my MacBook Pro to a new MacBook Air.  After doing this, when setting up things like FaceTime and iMessage I started getting errors about having to verify my ID and then when I'd go to verify Apple would complain it was already in use.
I've gotten most things straightened out, but I still have an issue with the iOS Find Friends app.  I can no longer send or receive invites because my ID isn't verified.
I currently have 3 Apple IDs.  My original iTunes ID, let's call it appleid1, I've been using since 2002.  A couple years later, I got .Mac service and my email was [email protected].  Then a few years later MobileMe comes along and now I have [email protected] to add to the collection.  Now I've moved my MobileMe account to iCloud.
Right now, I use my IDs for...
appleid1: iTunes, GameCenter, Apple Discussions, Apple Developer Connection
[email protected]: Primary email account, iMessage on iPad, FaceTime on iPad and MacBook Air (responds to [email protected], though) and iMac
[email protected]: FaceTime on MacBook Air and probably a few other things I can't think of offhand
If I go to appleid.apple.com and log in as appleid1, it shows [email protected] as my primary email address and a message recommending I make my Apple ID and primary email address the same.  I've also tried adding [email protected] as an alternate email address, but it won't allow me to (no error, though).  This is weird since I thought you couldn't merge IDs, however, it sounds like Apple is recommending I merge appleid1 and [email protected] together making [email protected] my new Apple ID.
I also logged into appleid.apple.com as [email protected] and then tried adding [email protected].  That worked, however, it still doesn't fix my Find Friends problem.
    So, two questions:
1.) What will happen if on appleid.apple.com I do as recommended and make my .Mac email my new Apple ID?  Will this screw up iTunes and my purchases?  Will I need to relog into things like GameCenter?  Will this change my login for ADC, Apple Discussions, etc?
2.)  How do I fix Find Friends?  I'm currently logged in as [email protected] and both [email protected] and me.com have been used for the send as email, with both not allowing me to send invites to friends.
    Thanks!
    Curt

  • Upgrade from IDS 4235 to IPS 5.0 license

Dear sirs. I have several 4235 sensors and SMARTnet 8x5xNBD contracts on each of them.
Have I upgrade their software to IPS v5.0 within this contracts or I should get licenses for the IPS?

Some one is feeding you a line of crap.
The main announcement for Cisco IDS version 5.0 has this 'fine print' at the bottom of the page:
"*Cisco IPS Sensor Software Version 5.0 is supported on the Cisco IDS 4215, IDS 4235, IPS 4240, IPS 4255, and IPS 4250-XL appliances and on the IDSM-2. It is supported in the promiscuous-based IDS mode only, for the IDS 4210 and the Cisco IDS Network Module (NM-CIDS).
Inline IPS services require more than one monitoring interface on Cisco IPS 4200 Series sensors."
This is posted at the following URL:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/vpndevc/ps4077/prod_bulletin0900aecd801e65b9.html
Also, Cisco has stated the same thing in the 'Read Me' file that accompanies the software update:
"You can apply the IPS-K9-maj-5.0-1-S149.rpm.pkg major update to the following IDS & IPS version 4.1 sensors:
    - IPS-42xx Cisco Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) sensors
    - IDS-42xx Cisco Intrusion Detection System (IDS) sensors (except for the IDS-4220 and the IDS-4230 series)
    - WS-SVC-IDSM2 series Intrusion Detection System Module (IDSM2)
    - NM-CIDS IDS Network Module for Cisco 26xx, 3660, and 37xx Router Families
It is not compatible with the IDS-4220 and IDS-4230 series IDS sensors, the NRS-xx series IDS sensors, or the WS-X6381-IDS series Intrusion Detection System Module (IDSM)."
    I hope this helps,

  • IDS-MC signature upgrade

    HI,
I am trying to upgrade my ids 4250 using IDS-MC Version 2.01. I downloaded signature file and placed it in following directory of IDS-MC server:
    " c:\program files\cscopx\mdc\etc\ids\update.
I got following error on progress viewer when i try to apply this update using IDS-MC.
    Local MC: Upgrade
This package appears to be corrupted, or permission was denied for reading the file. Please verify the update package and retry the operation.
So, I thought signature file might be corrupted. I download same signature s146 again and i got same error. I downloaded same file again using different pc but i got same error.
I checked the file permission and it looks ok. I dont know what else to check.
    Altaf

    Hi Altaf,
try updating with the zip file and not the pkg file. through the ids mc , you need to do only with the zip file.. the pkg file can be directly used when you do ftp for updating the signature in IDS.
hope this helps.. all the best..

  • IDS 4235 upgrade problem

    hi,
    i have IDS 4235 running ver 4.1(1)S47
i want to upgrade it to act as ips i have upgrdae file IPS-K9-maj-5.0-1-S149.rpm.pkg when i start upgrade process i strats copying file from ftp to ids then i got a message
Error: This hardware platform, , is not supported in version 5.x
is there any solution for this problem

    Hi,
Logon to your sensor to CLI. Run show users all to see your users. If there is one with a Privilege of Service, logoff and login again with that user account. If a service account does not exist (only one allowed), create one with the following:
    configure terminal
    username service privilege service
    Best of Luck.

  • TS1702 I have 2 Apple Ids on my phone I purchased an App on 1 id but when I tried to upgrade it it used my other id, therefore the app would not download because of different id

I have 2 Apple Ids on my phone I purchased an App on 1 id but when I tried to upgrade it used the other id and the App wouldn't accept it as different account name. Asking me to download the App for this id. but can;t because the App is already installed on my phone.

you have to use the same ID you used to purchase an App to update it.
Normally when you go to the App Store and tap update for an App your iPhone will prompt you for the correct ID needed to update that particular App, but if this is not happening, then you should go to Settings, Store, sign out of the other Apple ID and log in with the one you need to update the App that is already installed on your iPhone..
