Upgrade iphone 4 from 4.3.3 restore
Hi,
I'm upgrading an iphone, not sure if its a 4/4s from 4.3.3 for a friend
Bakup up the phone to itunes first and kicked off the upgrade. All going well so far.
Now going through setup on the phone and its asking if I want to
set up as a new phone
Restore from iCloud backup
Restore from iTunes backup
Which do I select - is it iTunes bakup ?
I know the upgrade process does a backup - is that backup to itunes ?
Thanks a mil,
Mary
Hi,
Thanks for the speedy reply. Its so long since I did anything with 4.3.3 !
Do you know if the restore should get kicked off automatically or do I manually restore from last backup i.e. the one I took myself before upgrading. At the moment its says "Connected to iTunes" doesn't look like anything is going to happen automatically!

While upgrading iPhone OS from 5.1 to 5.1.1 on Win 7 using iTunes 10.6.1.7, the iPhone hung. I could not get iTunes to find it and Win 7 does not see it.
When I connect the iPhone to the USB, Win 7 issues the welcome sound, but that is it. The same happens when I disconnect iPhone.
The Devise Manager has the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver correct without any problem. I updated this driver called usbaapl64.
The iPhone is still hung.
I restarted the iPod service
I restarted the Apple Mobile Device Service
I tried to empty and delete the temp directory in C:\users\myname\AppData\Local\ but could not
The iTunes I am using is the latest version
I updated the Apple Mobile Device Driver as stated above correctly
The iPhone is still hung and is not recognized by Win 7 or iTunes, so I cannot restore the OS to the previous working version
What else can I do to restore the previous working OS on my iPhone 4I was connecting the iPhone 4 to a USB 3.0 port. I was told by Apple Express Support (at US$29.99) not to use USB 3.0 and to use USB 2.1 instead.
If you are connecting your iPhone to the computer using a USB 3.0 port, disconnect it immediately. iPhones will lock up if you try to update while using a connection through a USB 3.0 port.
Disconnect the iPhone from the computer
Go to Device Manager and find the connected USB port. Click the mouse right button and update the driver
Shut the iPhone by pressing the sleep button and the home button concurrently for some time
Move the USB cable to a USB 2.1 port or older without the iPhone.
Restart iTunes.
Connect the iPhone
Your computer should recognize the phone and reloads the correct USB 2.1 driver (Apple Mobile Device)
Then iTunes should recognize the iPhone and starts reloading the firmware.
When that is complete it may ask if you wish to restore, naturally you say YES
iTunes will restore the iOS
Using iTunes, restore the latest backup to get your data back.
When all of the above is completed. Start enjoying your iPhone.
If the above does not work. Throw your iPhone out of the window and get a replacement Android phone. -
Encountered error 6 when upgrading Iphone 5s from 7.1.2 to 8.3
I encountered error 6 when upgrading Iphone 5s from 7.1.2 to 8.3
I've tried upgrade iphone on three computers , the results are all the same.
One of the computers successfully upgrade my ipad to 8.3.
There are 2GB left on IPhone 5S before I perform the upgrade.
It should be enough for iTunes to finish the process, right?
But in the log, it says "copier_file_error: /mnt2/mobile/Library/PreinstalledAssets/com_apple_MobileAsset_Font.cpio: No space left on device"
why is that?
Any way for me to continue the upgrade? it seems it's almost done.
Thank you

It sounds like you are trying to update your iPhone 5s to the most current version of iOS and are getting an Error 6 message. The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great information in regards to that very error message:

Particularly:
Check your security software
Errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1611, 9006.
Sometimes security software can stop your device from communicating with either the Apple update server or with your device.

How to upgrade iphone 3GS from 3.0.1 to 3.1.3
how to upgrade iphone 3GS from 3.0.1 to 3.1.3
I dont want to upgrade it to 4.0 yet.
Just up to 3.1.3 from 3.0.1
how can i do it.That's because Apple is no longer signing v3.1.3 nor any firmware other than iOS4. You could try following a downgrade to v3.1.3, see these:

Just upgraded iPhone 4 from 4.2 ios to 6.1.3 ios now can't connect to internet
I just updated my friend's iPhone 4 from 4.2 ios to 6.1.3 ios -- she had not updated it since she purchased it. The uploads installed fine but now she can't access safari/internet and can't send pictures via text message. She is strictly 3g with no wireless access at her home. Could this be caused by the software upgrade? If not, how/where do I start looking for the problem.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
chuswysly♥Hi chuswysly,
If your friend if having trouble connecting to her cellular network, the steps below might help:
iPhone: Troubleshooting a cellular data connection
Resolution
Follow the instructions below for assistance with troubleshooting cellular data issues on your iPhone. After performing each step, please test to see if the issue is resolved.
Toggle cellular data off and then on again on the iPhone: Tap Settings > General > Cellular.
Restart your iPhone.
Check for a carrier settings update.
Update your iPhone.
Remove the SIM Card and reinsert it. Allow the iPhone to reaquire the network.
If your SIM card has SIM PIN enabled, try toggling it off: Tap Settings > Phone > SIM PIN.
Try another location. If a different location works, but the original location still does not, contact your carrier to report the issue.
Reset network settings: Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Restore the iPhone as new.
Contact your carrier to verify that the iPhone is properly set up on the account with the appropriate, current data plan. If you are traveling internationally, you may need to turn data roaming on: Tap Settings > General > Cellular. Check with your carrier first to understand the cost of international data roaming. Also, see this article.
Note: If your carrier does not appear in this list, verify with your carrier that you are using the correct cellular data settings.
If none of the above steps resolves the issue, contact your carrier, make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store, or contact AppleCare to troubleshoot further.
Hope this helps ...

Upgrade iphone 3G from 3.1.2 to 4.2 stuck on back up
Hi
I am trying to upgrade my iphone 3G from version 3.2.1 to 4.2 using itunes v10.1. The software has downloaded fine, but when upgrading, itunes gets stuck on 'Backing up "zzzzzzz" iphone' and nothing else happens.
Please help.
RayUpdate:
My own main problem is that my wife and I separated more than two years ago, whereupon I lost access to the Mac with which my phone had been synced. I've had no computer at all until recently, and just managed to retrieve an old backup of files, songs, etc. (moral: it was a very good thing to have several redundant backups, as only one of six survived long enough to use). So it was time to match the iPhone to the new computer.
I wanted to report that I did the following and it worked:
* Synced the iPhone 3G successfully, giving me a good backup.
* Attempted to update iPhone to 4.2. Got the error after a long wait, and then clicked through to skip the backup stage.
* iPhone OS successfully updated, but lost all my Apps except the default ones.It was essentially a stripped, new phone.
* Went through iTunes and deleted and re-downloaded apps that had somehow come in under my ex-wife's account. All were then under my own iTunes account.
* On my phone, in Settings, I turned restrictions ON, then OFF. Have no idea if this made any difference.
* Synced my iPhone. Everything was restored successfully. I lost no information at all. Settings and files associated with each App were there and not lost.
And now, my iPhone 3G is faster, has better battery life, and the SUPREMELY annoying buzzing that spoiled all my calls is gone. So here is one user who had a good experience with 4.2, though it took some hoop jumping to get there. -

How to sync music back on to iphone 4 from iTunes library after restore
Troubleshooting (this may or may not work with other Apple devices)
Step 1: Select the music you want to sync to your iphone.
You may find some are missing (flagged). When you try to play it will let you try to locate it and hopefully it should still be on your pc. Luckily for those no longer on pc I had backups on USB drive which I pasted back into iTunes media folder. Always best to keep iTunes library music in the iTunes media folder.
Step 2: Click on your device and select the summary page.
Step 3: Scroll down to options page and make sure that the only thing ticked in the options box is 'syn only ticked music and videos'.
Step 4: Whilst still on your device, select the music page and tick sync music and entire library.
Step 5: Then click sync at the bottom of the page.
All music selected and not missing (location could not found) from your iTunes library should be synced to your iphone.Um, "slide"?
Have you tried going to this tab (see image)?
Then choose to "Sync Music" and then "Entire music library" or "Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres."
Then remember to click the "Sync" button at the bottom right. -
Upgrade iphone 4 from 4.1 to 5.1
Hi,
I have iphone 4 runnning on 4.1 IOS. I need to upgrade now, when I go to Itunes and hit update it just shows me latest version of IOS i.e. 6.1.3.
I heard it is bit heavy for iphone 4 makes iphone 4 slow. Is there any way to install older version of IOS like 5.1 to my iphone 4?
Thanks,
NitinAs always, you can ONLY update to the latest available.
Most have no issues at all with any updates. -
Anyone have any ideas on the question at hand...
I haven't personally used it, but it's widely recommended so I suspect it's pretty good software. If your restore is failing it may be the only way to access your data again. And if the backup is failing because it is corrupt, even this may not work.
You won't be able to find you information on a different computer unless you backed up your phone on it (and you can't simply copy the backup from one computer to another as iTunes won't read it on the other computer). -
