Upgrade Kernel 620 to 640 in 32bit

Dear Gurús!!
Please, I need know about the apply the kernel 640 in the SAP Enterprise 47 SR1 with kernel 620.
I have Windows 2003, SQL 2000 32bit.
Best Regards
Luis

Hi Luis,
I upgraded kernel from 620 to 640 with any problem. Just download 640 kernel with latest patch, backup "\exe\run" catalog, unpack new SAR archive, copy new kernel to "\exe\run" catalog.
Next step is to register services SAPOsCol and <instance>name service in program sapstartsrv.exe

Marcin Gajewski

  • SAP dont start when upgrade kenel 620 to 640

    HI everyone.
Im trying to update kernel 620 to kernel 640 on our SAP R/3 Enterprise 4.7 system (Win 2003/MSSQL 2000)
I did this following instructions in sap note 664679.
I update kernel succesfully in our DEV and QAS system. But in our PRD system during the start of R/3 wp die and system stop. I rolled back prd back to kernel 620 and now is funtioning normally.
Here I described some trace files when starting up with kernel 640.
Seems to be an issue with the shared memory..

    Hi Frank,
We faced the similar situation in our case but how we solved is
after upgrading to 640, before start up of SID do the following.
    1. Reduce the abap buffer size to half from your instance profile
    2. Reduce the no. of work processes to half
Then start the Production system. Once if it's up and stable then increase the abap memory and no. of WP's.
I hope this will solve your problem.
    Regards,
    Hari.

Is it possbile, for us to upgrade the Kernel from 620 to 640, with out touching/upgrading any of the SAP application components like BASIS, ABA, SAP_HR, SAP_APPL and so on?????
    Thank you,

    Hello Nikee,
You can do the Kernel upgrade from 620 to 640.
You cant just upgrade the SAP_BASIS or SAP_ABA componant from 620 to 640 as this will be a version upgrade, for this you have to follow the system upgrade process, which will upgrade your whole system.
Do revert for any more info.
    Best Regards,
    Sachin.

  • Upgrade 620 to 640: BSP problems

Ok, I know there are a few of you in here who have done this so speak up
I just upgraded our 620 SP47 server to 640 SP11 and I've started going through checking out all our apps.  I'm on the last app now and it's of course the biggest.
I'm getting nothing but strange problems about "How I can't use that variable as 'Protected' in my controller class" or I am getting syntax errors CL_O2ELI489813B0ROMNXZ1RWW5ON5C
in the Include "CL_O2ELI489813B0ROMNXZ1RWW5ON5CO " in line 5:
"Implementation missing for method "%_ONLAYOUT". "%_ONLAYOUT"."
So has anyone come across this or do I need to open an OSS message?

    Hallo Craig,
We have had these mysterious problems a few times. Unfortunately not long enough to understand why. Two options:
    (A) Open OSS message so that we can mess around for 5 days in your system. Maybe we understand it then. Will require some workbench expertise.
    (B) Just reactivate all BSP pages (what we will do in anycase in the end:). Control-F3 on each page should make the problem go away. (From what I remember you can select them all in the tree on the left and do it that way.)
    bye, brian

Also, I have a query that can we upgrade a kernel from 640 to 700 directly by overwriting the kernel of 700 over 640 or not. If not please let me how can I upgrade from 640 to 700.
Waiting for some nice replies....Thanks all in advance.

This scenario i have planned to make an attempt of my own..

I need help from oracle gurus!!! how to migrate existing DB Upgrade from 10.2.0.1 32bit to 10.2.0.4 64bit windows
    1)how to take backup?
    2)how to upgrade oracle version?
3)proper step to follow completed this task successful
For database migration and upgrade activity...
    share your suggestions please
    Regards,
    Venk@t

How big is the database ? How much downtime can you afford ? One option is to install 10.2.0.1 on the target, apply the 10.2.0.4 patch, create an empty instance on target, then export the database from the source and import into target.
Pl be aware that 10.2.0.1 thru 10.2.0.4 are on sustaining support and 10.2.0.5 is on extended support (if you have paid the extended support fees). Why not upgrade to 11gR2 ?

  • Dual booting of 32 and 64 bit arch, how to upgrade kernel?

    Hi all,
I have set up a concurrent 32 and 64 bit arch install on my system. I partitioned my system to have 5 partitions:
    boot
    32bit root
    64bit root
    swap
    home
(64 bit root and home in an extended partition)
I renamed the 64 bit kernel files in /boot to
    kernel26_64.img
    kernel26-fallback_64.img
    System_64.map26
    vmlinuz26_64
the 32 bit kernel files have their 'normal' names
    kernel26.img
    kernel26-fallback.img
    System.map26
    vmlinuz26
Then I changed grubs menu.lst accordingly to either boot the 32 or 64 bit installation, both using same swap and home partition. This works by now. But if I want to upgrade my kernel through pacman, the 64 bit install will overwrite the 32bit kernel files because it generates the 'normal' filenames which belong to the 32bit installation. Is there a way to tell mkinitcpio to build files with a *_64 at the end while run by pacman -Syu?
Does anybody see other caveats? Are there other solutions to archieve my goal?

You can change the name of the initcpio images in /etc/mkinitcpio.d/kernel26.preset.  To change the name of the kernel itself (vmlinuz26), you'll have to compile your own kernel.  Well, not quite; this untested PKGBUILD I whipped up just repackages the official 64-bit kernel, with important names changed:
#pkgname=kernel26 # Build stock -ARCH kernel
pkgname=kernel26-64 # Build kernel with a different name

  • SAP 700 Kernel compability with 640 Release

    Hello Gurus,
We have our SAP system with 640 Release and due to some reason we want to upgrade our kernel to 700.
Is this possible to upgrade only SAP kernel to 700 without upgrading the SAP Release?
    Thanks in advance..
    Manoj

We have our SAP system with 640 Release and due to some reason we want to upgrade our kernel to 700
What would that reason be?... Theres a 640_EXT extended kernel that may cover that (if you tell us what it is?)
Is this possible to upgrade only SAP kernel to 700 without upgrading the SAP Release?
If you are using Release 640 you must likely are running a 4.7 system....  You can't run a 700 kernel in a 4.X system you'll need to upgrade first.

  • Upgrade oracle 10.2.0.3 32bit to oracle 11.1.7 x64

    Hi There,
I'm trying to upgrade from oracle 10.2.0.3 to 11.1.7 and I'm wondering what's the best way of doing this.
THe problem is that production server is windows 2003 server 32 bit running oracle 10.2.0.3 standard edition.
The new server is windows 2008 server, 64bit. I have managed to install oracle 11.1.7 on it, so my question is what's teh best approach to do the DB migration? does it matter if the old DB files are in 32bit?
I couldnt find oracle 10.2.0.3 x64 on the oracle site as I was thinking of installing that on the new machine, do cold backup of DB and copy all the files to the new server, startup the DB on the new server, and then run DBUA.
I also managed to install oracle 10.2.0.4 on the new server, is it possible to dpow the foolowing:
    1. cold backup the DB on the current production server.
    2. move the backup to the new server
    3. using 10.2.0.4 executables, do startup mount
    4. rename datafiles from old location to new location
    5. shutdown immediate
    6. startup upgrade
    7. run @?/rdbms/admin/catupgrd.sql
would the above work? any concerns? or tips? or any advises please?
    Thanks

Mohammed at al, you are not correct - sorry to say that but a 32=>64-bit change will be handled implicitly by the database by invalidating packages etc.
    Your way would be:
    1) Run utlu111i.sql from your new %OH%\rdbms\admin installation on your "old" 10.2. installation (copy it over and run it from SQL*Plus 10.2)
If you have just an spfile then do a 'create pfile from spfile;' to have an editable copy of your spfile.
    2) Shutdown your 10.2. database IMMEDIATE
    3) Copy all relevant files (database files, password file, control files, redolog files and spfile/init.or) to your new server into the identical location
    - if you plan to choose a different location then you'll have to trace the controlfile before on your old server and create a new controlfile
in the new installation to reflect to the new file locations
    4) Create a new service on the new server with: oradim -NEW -SID yoursid -SYSPWD passwrd -STARTMODE a -PFILE initfile
    5) Create a new listener service on your new server with "netca"
    6) Make all suggested changes from the utlu111i.sql script output to your init.ora.
    7) Startup your database in upgrade mode 'startup upgrade'
    8) Run 'catupgrd.sql'
    9) Once it has been finished then the db will be shutdown - startup normal and run 'utltp.sql' and 'catuppst.sql' in parallel from 2 SQL*Plus sessions
    10) Check with 'utlu111s.sql' if everything has been upgraded successfully.
    Have fun :-)
    Kind regards
    Mike

  • Error messages after upgrading kernel (devfs to udev) [SOL]

when installing the new kernel i got a message to change my menu.lst so it changed "/dev/discs/disc0/part3" to "/dev/hda3" (and nothing else) cause of udev instead of devfs.
after rebooting i get few error messages:
    [after network start]
    SIOCSIFADDR: No such device
eth0: unknown interface: No such device
    SIOCSIFBRDADDR: No such device
etho0: unknwon interface: No such device

kjs wrote:I'm also having an issue after upgrading neither eth0 nor eth1 are showing up in /dev .... I think it's due to the switch from devfs to udev...
for the record - network interfaces never show up in /dev - they're not normal devices
edit: I guess I should provide some help...
ifconfig and "ifconfig -a" will list network devices (also in /proc/net somewhere).  If you do not have a network device that means that your module is not properly loaded for that device.
This should have nothing to do with a devfs/udev switch and everything to do with a kernel upgrade.
Just for some more info, can you please report the output of:
    · lsmod
    · uname -r
    · ls /lib/modules
    · ifconfig -a

    Any ideias why?

Not really, but that's harmless. Just run pacman -Syuf.
