  • Upgrading to a MSI kt4-ultra FISR board.....

Currently I've got a gigabyte motherboard and I want to upgrade to an: MSI kt4-ultra FISR board. Can I just pull my old board out and install the MSI board with all my old hardware, O/S already on harddrive -  and do a start up, or will I run into errors and problems when I try this? Currently my system looks like this:
    1)  Case: "Xaser SC5000BWII"  400watt mid-tower case
    2)  Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-7DXR DDR+Raid
    3)  CPU Chip:   AMD Athon XP 1800 1.6Ghz
    4)  Memory:  512 of  PC2100 DDR266 Memory
    5)  AudioCard:  Creative SoundBlaster Audigy MP3 card
    6)  VideoCard:  ATI RADEON 9000pro, 128 DDR
    7)  Hard Drive:  Maxtor 80GB 7200RPM ATA-133 "D740X" Mdl:6L080J4
    8) Operating System:  Ms Windows XP Pro
Thanks for the help........ seboyd ?(  :D  8)

A clean install will give you 30 days to reactivate and it only takes a 5 minute call to get the new #s. Pretty simple and much easier than trying to straighten out all the error codes from old O S. I did however move an XP harddrive from a Turbo2 to a KT4 without a new install but they were both MSI boards. A clean install also gets rid of all the junk that accumulates. Just enter bios and make the CD rom 1 st boot . BIGDADDY51 CT. USA  :D  8)  :D

  • KT4 Ultra or KT4A Ultra ???

:D  My new KT4 Ultra just arrived today!  Before installing it I browsed the site and joined the forum to check for updates and gotchas.
?(  How do I identify KT4 Ultra vs KT4A Ultra? Can I tell by the Serial Number or is there a particular PCB Rev or chip on the Motherboard?
    TIA for constructive feedback.

:O  DUH!!!  Thanks!  I hadn\\\'t removed the Mboard from the bag yet (embarrassed grin...)
Perhaps another dumb question -- despite years of tech experience this is my first MSI board:  if my 6590 did not come with optional brackets, can I order them?  If so, where?  My 5 speaker system needs the optional S bracket.  I\\\'m also interested in the optional D and Firewire brackets.  Couldn\\\'t find a link on the Taiwan or US MSI web sites.
Thanks a million for your quick reply.  My KT4 Ultra arrived in record time.  FedEx delivered it two days early, just three days after I ordered it from NewEgg.com here in California -- including two weekend days.  Next, YOU replied to my question in minutes!
This is a good omen about MSI and my new Mboard.  Thanks again!!!

  • Does any one use the SPIGEN iphone case? if so, can you tell me the difference between the ultra fit, ultra fit a, ultra fit s, and ultra hybrid? also does this case get in the way of the camera flash? i ask because the camera opening seems so small.

also if you dont recommend this case please point in the direction of the best slim fit case

The Ultra Fit A has a cutout on back to display the Apple logo. The Ultra Fit and Ultra Fit S do not. And the Ultra Fit and Ultra Fit A are a soft matte finish all over, while the Ultra Fit S has a brushed finish in its midsection.
The Ultra Hybrid is a bumper, with back protection. (1) It's made of TPU (for anti-shock) vs. the all polycarbonate (for anti-slip) Ultra Fit/A/S.
    (2) It also has power and volume buttons overlaying Apple's, which the Ultra Fits do not. (3) Lastly, it covers all four sides, whereas the Ultra Fits cover the left and right sides and wrap around the four corners, leaving the top and bottom exposed (which is good if you want to connect some models of headphones or adapters that require more space there).
They're all properly designed for the 5/5S flash, including the black around that cutout (you don't want to buy a case that doesn't have a black rim there).
IMO Spigen's slim cases are better made/more durable than other third-party cases (of which I've bought aplenty). I love mine!

  • Kt3 ultra or kt3 ultra 2 got porblem or no

kt3 ultra or kt3 ultra 2  got reboot  problem or no??????
can i know it ASAP. My PSU Enlight 300 watt.

Check your FSB setting and make sure it's set correctly. I had a restart issue with XP until I set the FSB correctly and disabled wake options in the BIOS. Also check these white papers at MS if you are using Windows XP:

  • Solaris 9 404 Upgrade to Solaris 10 on Ultra 10

I tried to do a Solaris 9 404 Upgrade to Solaris 10 on my Ultra 10 with SVM mirrored system drives and it wouldn't get past the Upgrade Profile Initialisation section. It stayed there for a long time, maybe 20 minutes and finally came up with a Failed screen. It compalined about a missing device name, said it couldn't find root or boot and mentioned something about filesystem backups.
Is an upgrade from tis configuration really supported?
Ultra 10 440MHZ 768MB RAM. Dual 73GB SCSI mirrored with SVM system drives. One 120GB IDE media drive. There is only a main and a swap partition on the system drive ie everything is in /.
Am currently backing up the data I want from the system drives prior to attempting an initial install but I'd obviously prefer to upgrade the system and keep the SVM filesystems as they are.
    Nick ([email protected])

I would break your mirror and do a liveupgrade on the available mirror. Then boot that disk.

  • I upgrade a new mobo KT3 ULTRA 2-C

Ather I set CMOS it booted the HD  Do need to reinstall XP OS ?Well I will reinstall anyway it will fix everything. Do you think? Its was working good for a hour but the red light4 is red means TESTING RTC REAL TIME CLOCK also red light bad memory change it out
KT3 ULTRA 2-C the bottom right of 4 is red means TESTING RTC REAL TIME CLOCK. WHAY DOES THIS MEAN HOW long DOES THE TESTING LAST.WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?
    thank yaw
    willettfx

You can, but if you find problems, you'll know where they come from. BTW the faster memory will degrade to slower mem. speed. Also, if you'r running a 333FSB CPU. memories will run at that max.speed.

  • Ultra 10 is Ultra Broken?

Hey everyone, I recently bought an Ultra 10 off of eBay and when I tried to boot it the power supply turned on and the fans spun but I wasn't getting any video... so out came the serial cables!
After starting POST it gets about half way through (maybe?) and then just stops with a repeating error:

    Thanks,
    John

    Hello John,
The U10 has 4 sticks; 3 x 64Mb and 1 x 128Mb DIMMs... I tried every combination of 2 I could think of with the same results (RED STATE)
you have to use pairs (same capacity) of DIMMs. Use a pair of the 64MB DIMMs to test.
Get another 128MB DIMM or better 2 or 4 128MB DIMMs (one as as spare) -- if the system is working otherwise get another U10 with (333 or 440MHz /2MB Cache) CPU and memory (128MB or 256MB modules).
The error might be caused by a bad CPU module, bad system board (error appears later due to a termic problem), bad memory module or bad power supply.
I tried booting with no sticks of RAM, and with the exception of a error message telling me I had no ram, the POST/RED STATE happened the same way...
I guess the CPU module is bad. Have you checked that none of the pins of the CPU module are bent or missing ?
These systems are very cheap today, except for the higher shipping charges, a complete system costs less than the individual components in sum.

  • Running software on a Ultra 10 froma Ultra 60

I have a piece of software using C++ and a GUI frontend it will not work correctly on the Ultra 10, remotely it does but if you use the machine it appears to hang i think this may be a graphics incompatibility, the /var/adm/messages shows

  • Ultra 1E & OBP 3.33: solaris cd not booting.

    Hi,
I got an Ultra 1E 167. It came loaded with Solaris 8 booting the 32bits kernel.I didn't know details about the way the previous owner installed and configured it.
I tried to boot the 64bit kernel and got the message: "needs OBP 3.11.1 at least to boot and run Solaris 8".
Well the OBP was at version 3.7.1
So I went to the patch portal, downloaded the PROM update 104288 for ultra 1E (not ultra 1), burned it on a cdrom, switched the jumper on the board to writable, booted and flashed the PROM successfully. The box rebooted with OBP 3.33.0.
(detail: the new banner shows now: "Sun Ultra 1UPA/SBUS (UltraSPARC???? 167 mhz") : the cpu version is gone).
From now trying to boot failed:
    Boot device: /sbus/SUNW,fas@e,8800000/sd@0,0
krtld: load_exec: fail to expand cpu/$CPU
krtld: error during initial load/link phase
panic - boot: exitto64 returned from client program
I took an OpenBSD 3.4 sparc64 iso. It booted and installed, and the box runs it like a charm.
I took a NetBSD 1.6.1 sparc64 iso.It booted and installed, and runs just fine.
I took a Linux-sparc iso. It booted and installed and it turns the box into a nice desktop.
I took a Solaris 8 iso, then a Solaris 9, then the last Solaris 10 Express, setting OBP:
    set-default boot-file
    set-default boot-device
I use the CD#1, not the "Installer" one.
and I boot giving the kernel path: /platform/sun4u/kernel/sparcv9/unix
    then the modules path /platform/sun4u/kernel.
    Fails allways:
(trying to boot the 32bit sparcv8 solaris 8 kernel fails too).
"Alloc of 0x400000 bytes at 0x1000000 refused" (memory alignment issue ?) in case of solaris 9 or 10, and fail to expand cpu/$CPU in case of solaris 8.
It seems solaris doesn't support ultra 1e with the last PROM.I will not try to downgrade the OBP, as they warn on sunsolve to not do that at all.
So I keep running OpenBSD and Linux on the box.
But maybe I miss something about solaris ??

    Hello,
this is a problem that is not acknowledged by Sun !
Please review the following thread on the Sun Support Forum (posted Thu, 12 February 2004 03:47)
Either go to http://supportforum.sun.com and select the Forum (last is the topic)
    Hardware ? Ultra/SunBlade ? Upgraded OBP on Ultra 1 - now can't boot
    or use the link
    http://supportforum.sun.com/hardware/index.php?t=msg&th=1267&start=0&rid=23&S=a533bb4719fbfe75ac9083e444cf19d1
You have to downgrade the OBP. Unfortunately the previous patch is no longer available (from Sun) for download.
You can either take one of the 'SUN4U SYSTEM FLASH PROM UPDATE' cd's (e.g. 2.3) or download it from the alternate location given in the thread.
It's very interesting that the error does only appear when Solaris is involved. I will post this as an update to the original thread.

  • Ultra 645 (6547)...Will it accept a P4 2.8?

I intend to upgrade the cpu of an Ultra 645 from a Northwood 1.8 P4 to a 2.8 P4 (Williamette ?). Can anyone say for certain that this board will allow a P4 2.8 to operate? The board has the latest version of bios at ver. 1.9.
I appreciate any help that can be given and a big Thanks in Advance!...

    Henry,
Answers so plain and clear, as this, are rare... ... and I do appreciate your leg work. I was at the MSI site before posting, but apparently I did not spend enough time and thank YOU for your answer.

  • Information on Sun Ultra 5/10 PSU regarding 6-pin AUX power connector

I've been messing around and reviving my old Ultra 5 and Ultra 10 machines. I've been considering upgrading the ATX power supply to something more modern, quiet, and 80Plus. From the hardware documentation, I have already confirmed that the 20-pin ATX main power connector is exactly as specified for ATX v1.3. So, any modern ATX PSU with a 20-pin or 20+4-pin main power connector should suffice in that area. However, on the Ultra 10, the 6-pin AUX power is also used. I'm guessing this is probably to power the UPA graphics stuff (Creator3D/Elite3D/etc.) since the Ultra 5 has the connector on the motherboard but the PSU doesn't supply any power to that 6-pin.
Looking at the 6-pin connector, it is orange-orange-orange-black-black-black. Typically, on PC hardware, this 6-pin is red-orange-orange-black-black-black. Does this mean Sun used a slighty different 6-pin AUX? I.e., instead of 2x 3.3V + 1x 5V line, does Sun use 3x 3.3V lines? I suppose I can just measure it, but it would be nice to have a 2nd opinion just so when I do measure it, I have some confirmation of what i'm seeing from someone else.
As FYI for anyone else, the U5 with a 10K RPM SCSI disk and 'glm' based SCSI controller draws only 60-65W, while the U10 with Elite3D draws almost 130W!!!! I'm hoping i can find an appropriately spec'd modern PSU since the power requirements on these things are so low!

four of the eight connector receptacles are blocked with a removable piece of plastic. Why is this?
You can safely remove the cap and use the additional four pins, if your power supply has a proper connector.  Four of the eight pins are covered to avoid confusion with PSUs that only have a 4-pin connector.

    Problem 2: PSU-mainboard compatibility
The Enermaxx  LIBERTY DXX 620 SLI (ELT620AWT-00) is listed in the MSI PSU compatibility list.  It does not have a -5V-rail either.  You should be fine.

    Problem 3: PCIe power connector
Use one of the 6-pin connectors of your PSU. That way you can make sure that the power load is balanced.  Those adaptors are usually for PSU that do not provide 6-pin PCIe-plugs.

  • MSI KT3 Ultra Reviews (NOT ARU)

I can't find any MSI KT3 Ultra Reviews on the web
Does anyone know where I can find MSI KT3 Ultra Reviews?
(I don't want the MSI KT3 Ultra ARU reviews)

bas is correct.  an ARU and non ARu are going to function the same and perfrom pretty much the same
Im just posting in addition to what Bas said since I have both the KT3 Ultra and KT3 Ultra ARU and I can tell you from personal experience they perform identically
    =======================================
The only rant I have about the ARU is the ARU has that ugly uneeded and crappy fan on the northbrdige....LOL I really like the non ARU without the fan better.  The orange heatsink on the nonARU is more than enough to cool the NB even when overclocking.  The KT333CE chip is well designed and doesnt get that hot by its very nature.  So that darn cheapy fan is just for looks and serves no functional purpose on this chipset.
And best of all with the non ARU - the orange heatsink makes no noise and has no moving parts to break down
( :D ok done with my rant.  Seems everyday I have to tell how I hate that silly silver fan  lol :D )

  • Media Encoder Flips a ghost Ultra Key frame

First time using Ultra Key - Learning trial by fire.
I've created a short video using a Canon HF G10 and ultra key to layer the video for effect I want.
The Ultra Key is used for about 30 seconds of the 3 minute video and this anomoly only shows up during the ultra key treatment,
The original footage is AVCHD footage and I've thrown a lot of video effect filters at the footage with the Ultra Key.
The project rendered fine first go except I had to adjust the ultra key to prevent background from showing through one preformers black shirt.
After doing this I notice some flickering. What I found is an outline ghost image from the utra key track is flipped upside down and randomly inserted into the final render, also a rectangular monotone transparent block is randomly inserted at times.
Am I throwing too much at my computer or CS5?
I have more than 30 keyframes spread over 4 effects on that track, is that too many or too taxing?
I have rendered this clip a number of times and it seems when I re-open the project the Ultra Key footage isn't rendered so I render it again even though I am just making changes in the encoder. Let me know if you want to see those settings

I'm afraid you're taking it as an article of faith that Ultra Key works fine under all conditions.
A lot of work goes into getting a successful chroma key shot, good chroma key lighting being the absolute most important one.  Adequate distance from the chroma key background to reduce spill is a close second.  Without a screen capture of the original green screen shot, it's tough to diagnose what you did.  But if you just put people in front of a green screen, shot and hoped for the best, I think you're running into green spill problems that won't be solved by a one-step keyer.
You may have to take the shot into After Effects, cut the shot up into various pieces using animated masks to get the keys straight, or you may even have to do some rotoscoping.
