Upgrade Laptop memory

Hello,
I want to upgrade my laptop with more memory. At the moment I have 4Gb and I would like to use either 2x 4Gb or 2x 8Gb.
After a long search I haven't found any compatible memory cards.
For my ICT study I need to be able to run 3 virtual Windows machines and its quite hard with an I3 laptop.
Any suggestions?

Fortunately for you, there is an easy access panel on the bottom. According to official specs, your 4 gigs is a single module and there is an open slot. The max memory is 12 gigs for some reason I cannot explain. For your purposes, you want the maximum available memory and don't worry about dual channel. Those VMs need all the RAM they can grab.
The RAM you need is PC3L-12800 aka DDR3L-1600 SO-DIMM. This is low-voltage (1.35 volt) memory. The official HP part number for an 8 gig module is 693374-001. This is what it looks like:
See how there are 8 black blocks. You will also find similar memory with 4 black blocks, but HPs prefer the lower density memory; that is 8 blocks not 4.
If you let us know where you are (country only) we can find you a good place to purchase compatible memory for a reasonable price. I am guessing you are in Europe, maybe the Netherlands and this memory is from eBay Germany:

  • Need to know which is better and faster for laptop memory upgrade

What is the difference and which is better for a laptop memory upgrade:  SDRAM, DDR SDRAM, SIMM?  One site suggested DDR SDRAM and BB suggested SO DIMM

SODIMM is the physical form factor of the module, DDR SDRAM is the actual memory type.
SIMMs are an ANCIENT form of memory module.  If you have a system that uses SIMMS, you will spend less money throwing your computer in the trash and buying a new one.
    Non-DDR SDRAM is also ancient.
Each system can only use one type of memory, i.e. you can't use DDR memory in a system that only used non-DDR memory, and you can't use DDR2 memory in a DDR system.
To find out if the configuration is 2x256 or 1x512, you'll need to look at what is installed.

It has intel core i5 cpu m480 2.67ghz 2667mhz 2 core 4 logical processor and two of 2GB SODIMM Samsung 1067MHz are used right now. (total 4GB memory) I'd like to upgrade the memory and
What is the maximum GB of RAM this laptop can have?
Which type of RAM cards should I install? (brand/MHz/GB...)
I tried a 8GB PC3 10600 1333MHz CL9 SoDimm and it caused an error and won't start Windows so I went back to original 2GB.

The maximum memory you can run in a pc with the i5 first generation core processor is 2 x 4 GB.

  • Laptop memory

I just ordered a refurbished Mac Mini (1.83 w/ 1 GB RAM) and I have a quick (and probably dumb) memory question. I upgraded my laptop from 2GB to 4GB (its a 2.4 mhz laptop that I bought last summer) can I use the memory that I removed from my laptop to upgrade the mini?
    Thanks

It says in the specs that its only upgradable to 2 gb ram
If the mini is a 1.83 Core 2 Duo model, the specs give a 2Gb Max, but you can fit 2x2Gb modules, giving it a total of 4Gb. However, the system will only recognize 3.3Gb of that.
In a related development I spoke to someone at Apple support about another topic and I mentioned wanting to use laptop memory in the Mac Mini and she said that 1) if I put it in myself (or had a non-authorized repair center install the memory) it would void my warranty.
That's not really the 'official' line, but it is something that gets repeated a lot even so. Opening up the mini doesn't void the warranty, and neither would fitting memory. However, any damage done would risk voiding the warranty, and it is always possible for Apple to note the replaced RAM and find that to be good reason to deny warranty claims since it isn't a supported configuration.
In situations where Apple deny a warranty claim after discovering the user opened the system for a RAM upgrade, it is possible to escalate the issue to customer support, and have that decision reversed as long as there is no indication the user caused any damage or problem.
To my mind, for peace of mind, it is better for one's peace of mind to have an authorized service provider do the RAM upgrade - many will do so for relatively little charge. While Mac resellers are few and far between, there are authorized service providers in more locations. Authorized service providers can be found via the page at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1434?viewlocale=en_US

That memory specification is correct, but the maximum memory configuration for your iMac is 2 GB.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The Mid 2011 Mac mini supports 8 GB of memory officially, but you can install up to 16 GB of RAM, so you can use 2, 4 and 8 GB modules. You can buy more RAM from OWC or Crucial.
If you are looking for memory at a local shop, make sure you buy 1333 MHz DDR3 memory. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4432?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

  • I want to upgrade my memory?

I want to upgrade my memory to the full 16gb. I now have 4. Is it okay if I buy 1 8gb stick and 1 4gb stick to make it 16gb? Or does all of it have to be the same?

It probably would work, but that will only get you 12 GB however this will ONLY work work on a 2010 or 2011 iMac. The 2009 iMacs will not accept 8GB DIMMS. A 8GB DIMM is currently selling for about $700 USD, were you aware of that?
Assuming your machine is a 2010 or 2011 iMac and you want to get to 16GB with the existing (2 x 2GB) in theory you could upgrade to 16 GB with those, a 4GB DIMM & a 8GB DIMM. If that is your intention I would STRONGLY recommend you contact OWC (either by phone or chat session) and inquire. I've never heard of anyone using that route to get to 16GB before so honestly I don't know if it would work or not.

  • How do I get out of kernel panic?  kernel panic upon boot.  I did that hard drive cleanup and reinstalled Lion.  What about memory?  Anyone think I need to upgrade my memory?  I have 8gig.

I get kernel paic upon boot.  I did that hard drive cleanup and reinstalled Lion.  What about memory?  Anyone think I need to upgrade my memory?  I have 8 G of upgraded RAM. (20 inch iMac core 2 duo)

If you're able to boot, launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Select the most recent panic log under System Diagnostic Reports. Post the contents — the text, please, not a screenshot. For privacy’s sake, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post "shutdownStall" or "hang" reports.
If you can't boot in the usual way, try a safe boot. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During startup, you’ll see a progress bar, and then the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all.
Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 10. Is it sensible to upgrade my memory to 32 Gb?

I have the following configuration (bought in September 2011).
    Asus P8Z68 DELUXE, Z68 chipset
    Intel Core i7 2600K 3.4 Ghz 8Mb
    Kingston
    Crucial SSD M4 128 Gb
Asus GeForce GTX560 Ti DirectCU II TOP 1GB 2xDVI
WD 2Tb sata 600 (black edition).
    Windows 7 prof 64 bit.
Adobe Premiere Elements 10 + Photoshop Elements 10
On the 128 Gb SSD I installed, Windows 7, office 2010, Adobe elements software and the SSD is used for temp/swap-drive for Adobe elements and Windows 7.
The second drive WD SATA 600 black 2 Tb is used for all my video and photo material.
When searching on the internet and on this forum I understand that till Premiere Elements 9 Adobe didn’t use the RAM memory above 3 Gb because of the 32 bit adobe-kernel of the elements series.
Can and will Premiere Elements 10 (or higher) use the memory above 3 Gb?
When I install 32 Gb (4x8 Gb) of DRAM Memory the recommended windows swap file will be around (2x32 =) 64 Gb. With windows 7, and some software installed there will be not much space left on the SSD drive for the adobe premiere elements temp-drive. I probably have to set the temp-drive to the WD 2 TB sata 600 because there is more free space left.
I'm not sure if it is sensible to upgrade my memory.
1 Is it sensible to upgrade my memory to 32 Gb? And will it likely increase the rendering-speed of premiere elements 10 (or a future release premiere elements)?
2 Is it sensible to upgrade my memory to 16 Gb (4x 4Gb)?
3 The 32 Gb memory-upgrade costs around 300 euro/dollar. Is there a better way to improve the rendering speed (I’m not comfortable with overclocking the system)?
Hope you can help me out with this question.
    Thanx!

    What RAM is currently installed?
What kind of video are you processing - Standard Def. High Def. Full HD ?
What kind of durations do your project have?
Generalising, based on what others have posted, 8GB seems to be the minimum recommendation and 16GB should be excellent - if you can get 2 x 8GB you have the option for another two later.
You might want to consider a second hard disk for your temp files.

Since Vista I don't think that generalisation is any longer relevant. It was much more appropriate to XP and when machine RAM was still measured in MB rather than GB. With 16GB or more real RAM there shouldn't be that much need for swapping to disk anyway.

Download AA 9 Pro from http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-downloads.html. Make a new backup for your archive. You might also take the DVD to your library to see if it is a drive problem. You might also carefully clean the DVD with water and soap (do not use anything that would scratch the surface or you have destroyed it for sure) and see if that solves the problem. This is particularly an issue if you have finger prints or other crud on the DVD. However, it could also be a bad drive as I mentioned. Hopefully the download solves your problem in any case (I would backup the download to CD and/or backup HD).

I did find a vendor who sells guaranteed compatible memory for this PC.
Their web page says it is 204 pin. Maximum RAM is 16GB with a 64-bit OS.

Hi, I have bought macbook pro a year back and it has 4 GB RAM and its mid 2012 model can u tell me whether if i give the macbook for upgradation of memory will they do it and what would be the cost.

You need to take your MacBook Pro to your Apple store genius bar and check that they will do the upgrade for you...price for 4 GB memory used to be $200 but you will have to check with them for the current cost.
You can also check with OWC, http://www.macsales.com and see what their cost is and decide if you want to do it yourself.  Cost will be about half of that at the Apple store.
