Upgrade leopard to snow leopard? Snow leopard no longer available?!?
I have a 2009 iMac running a Leopard 10.5.8. I would like to upgrade to leopard, now that mountain lion is out. I thought the price on snow leopard would drop from around $30 (where it was before mountain lion release), but instead it is no longer available! I don't want to pay $60 via amazon for it. What can I do?

If you look at the date of that listing on C-net, it is Aug. 25, 2009; plus the green download button will send you to an external site. I am absolutely certain that even if the download was available, it would NOT be FREE.
In any case I would not trust downloading it in this fashion, even if it was available.
If you're willing to wait a while, it is possible that the price of the "Leopard" will come down after the race to update to MT. LION dies down a bit.

I was surprised to see that 10.5 is no longer available for purchase from the Apple Store. I was even more surprised to see that the "street price" has taken about a $50 jump, making 10.5 about as expensive as the Box Set (10.6 + iLife + iWork)! Did Apple issue any explanation for this? One can imaging someone with, say, a G5, still running 10.4 who finally decides he wants to upgrade - and, of course, 10.6 is not an option.
PowerMax is out of stock as well. Apple is sure making a poor arguement for not pirating Leopard. I don't want to go that route, but I'm trying to squeeze some more life out of my old little iBook G4 (just put a 160GB hard drive in there). I currently have Leopard, and there are no longer updates for it. So I must upgrade to either Snow Leopard or Mountain Lion. Without doing so I cannot update my itunes, and my ipod is no longer compatile with my mac. How can I buy the upgrade, since I do not have access to the mac store as that comes with Snow Leopard? I went to Best Buy and they said neither Snow Leopard or Mountain Lion can be bought there.

I do think you should ask yourself if upgrading to Lion is the right course to take.
Snow Leopard is an excellent OS and Lion has literally been frozen out after barely a year. Remember too that some of your apps may not work with Lion (those that have Rosetta, for example) so that could mean more new purchases. Plus you may need to uprate your RAM too. -
My MacBook Pro originally came with Leopard. I have the OS and Applications disks for Leopard but I cannot find my upgrade disk for Snow Leopard. I would like to perform a clean install of Lion on the new hard drive and restore some data from my Time Machine backup. I am not looking to restore the current image to my new hard drive. I have not yet removed the exisiting hard drive nor have I wiped my data.
The only way to do that is to buy a New SL Retail DVD. Or you could buy the Lion Install USB thumb drive from Apple for $69.
You must have SL installed to then install Lion or have a thumb drive with the Lion installer.
You could also create a Lion USB Recovery thumb drive using Lion Disk Assistant. But you need to have Lion already installed and the Lion RecoveryHD Partition on your drive to make the Recovery thumb drive.

Upgraded Leopard -- Snow Leopard; What About Boot Camp?
I upgraded Leopard on my iMac to Snow Leopard, and didn't even think about my Boot Camp partition. I guess I would have assumed the installer would have seen I had this partition and offered to update to Boot Camp 3.0, but when I checked last night in Windows, I see I'm still running Boot Camp 2.1. I ran Apple Software Update in Windows and wasn't presented with any Boot Camp updates.

the BootCamp Assistant in OSX is updated to version 3.0 !
To update the BootCamp Windows Drivers and the Control Panel insert the OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD while in Windows and the update should start automatically.

Also a good idea befor installing the Driver Update is to make a backup of your Windows using WinClone or at least making a 'System Restore Point' just in case.

i currently have a 2207 iMac and I'm running tiger. I had an iPod classic which synced up beautifully but it has just died. iPod touch's are the only things that are on the market now as classic are no more. I've been told that an iPod touch won't qork on tiger operating system and I need to get snow lWoodard. Can I upgrade straight to snow leopard or do I need to get leopard first? I have the exact same issue, and no Profiles for me under System. My system was upgraded from 10.6 as soon as Lion came out and I've never had the icon.
I have had iCloud set up by creating an account within Mail, Contacts & Calendars - but in this setup my Mobile Documents folder, my iCloud "Documents and Data", never synchronized with my other devices. That is why I began wondering why I don't have the iCon as I have seen other Macs that came with 10.7 installed factory. -
