Upgrade LR 1.7 to 4.2 - Library photos can't be opened in Developer mode?

I'm running Snow Loepard 10.6.8.  I upgraded from LR 1.7 to LR 4.2 today, and chose to upgrade the catalog as part of that. This all went fine - no errors.
I can see all my old photos in Library mode, and when I click on any of them - I can do Quick Edits (or anything else allowed) in Library mode;  however, LR 4.2 isn't leting me open the selected pic in Developer mode. What's going on?  Baffled by this one.....hoping for simple answer.

That seems strange Chaz, is ther any message?

I have a new Mac and I migrated mi old one to this. I can not open iTunes because a message stating "iTunes Library.itl" can not be opened because it was created in more recent version of iTunes. There is not a new version to download. How can I fix this?

Go to iTunes > about iTunes.  What version are you running?  If necessary, hold down the option key while starting iTunes and create a new, test library so it will start.

  • Itunes library.itl can't be opened

when i want to open itunes, the messages "itunes library.itl can't be opned since it had been configuered by a newer itunes version (or similar, it's written in German)
does anybody know anything about this?

You'll have to rebuild the library. Delete the old .itl file and try importing the iTunes Library.xml file (File menu -> Import and select the .xml file in the iTunes folder).
If that doesn't work, you'll have to use the Add Folder to Library command and select the iTunes Music folder to get all your contact back into iTunes. You'll lose ratings and playlists, but your content should all play.

  • I tunes library it can not be opened

itunes library it can not be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes. this is what the pop up window says when we try to open our itunes . can any one help me out with this?

Go to Help, Check for Updates and make sure you have the latest version of iTunes.
If you do, I don't know the answer. If you don't, it sounds like you're going to have to download and install the latest and greatest.

  • I upgraded to Firefox 12.0. Now, my Gmail calendar will not open in edit mode. I reverted to Explorer, and the calendar does open there. What is the remedy?

I upgraded to Firefox 12.0. Now, when I attempt to reach my Gmail calendar, it only comes up in read-only mode. I temporarily went to Explorer. the calendar comes up in edit mode without issue. What should be my next steps to resolve this?

Glad it worked, Thanks for posting back. It is a simple solution but often overlooked. I have often myself wasted time on looking for more complex solutions.

I have I-Photo library which was working fine until a few hours ago. Now get pop up saying: "The application I-Photo can't be opened." with message number 600. Went to I Photo Library Manager. Everything is still there but don't know how/why I can no longer access library thru regular route.

You are way behind in iPhoto 11. Run Software Update.

  • Why is the image not as sharp in library mode then it is in develop mode?

and the image i email reflects the library image/version (less sharp) not the develop mode image/version.

I just open my MBP before plugging up the TB display.  Then after the TB comes on, I close the MBP back into clamshell mode.  Works better for me that way.
Does that work for you as well?

  • How do I upgrade my 667 iPhoto 2.0.1 library copy which is sitting in a folder on my MacBook Pro desktop which has iPhoto 11 installed?

I first copied my  667 titanium (inactive laptop) iphoto library (iphoto 2.0.1) to an external hard drive. Then I copied that folder which I had renamed "Pictures from 667" to the desktop of my 2009 Macbook Pro running iPhoto 11, running 9.4.3.
I downloaded "Iphoto Library Upgrader 1.0" and opened it from my Utilities scroll and this opened but it listed the library location as /Users/petronplus/pictures/iphoto library. So...Iclicked "Choose Library" and made my way to what you see in this screenshot: my Iphoto library from 667
I clicked on it and the Library Upgrader then listed it as what you see. It no longer lists my current iphoto11 library
However, when I click on continue I get this window with the launch button blicking blue
When I click "Launch iPhoto", the Iphoto Icon on the docks bouces a couple of times and the following window opens:
I then click on "learn more" and it brings me to this webpage:
So, I click on "here" and back to the "Iphoto Library Updater 1.0" download page I go.
This just becomes a dog chasing its tail with the same outcome each time: a deadend.
Lastly, I want to just say quit and it tells my I cannot open my Iphoto 11 library because it has to be Updated. I guess that is because I changed from my current library to the 667 one located in the folder on my desktop.
Hopefully, if I go back to my Home, click on pictures, then click library I will revert to normal.
Yes! thank goodness, I have my current library back.
So what do I do to convert the library from my 667 sitting in a folder on my desktop. This approach did not work.
I can still get on the web on my 667...Do I try to download the "iPhoto Library Updater 1.0" to my 667 and upgrade from its iPhoto 2.0.1?
Thank you. I have tried to be as detailed & clear as possible given how often this same kind of problem has been genericly posed before in this group.
    Thanks, David

    Hi again Terence
I have renamed and moved the old 667 library (iPhoto 2.0.1) into my pictures Folder in my home.
Then I launched Updater and this screen came up and it already had the Iphoto Library 667 as the target to upgrade.
So I clicked continue and got this question window: Your library can now be upgraded by the current version of iPhoto. Do you want to launch iPhoto?
Unfortunately the iPhoto icon starts bounciongand a window comes up which says: To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared...so go get the Upgrader  from Apple
On & on in circles it goes.
If I close iPhoto and click on the iPhoto 11-9.4.3 Iphoto Library, which thank goodness still opens with all its info intact and then open the Updater I get a window which informs me that: iPhoto is already running. Only one copy can be running at a time.
So I am forced to shut down iPhoto and Catch 22 continues.
I am trying. Is there anything you can detect that I am doing just plain wrong. Thanks for your patience.
    Best, David

  • When I open iPhoto 9.2.1 it says that my library needs to be upgraded but when I upgrade the library I am trying to open (33 GB worth of pictures from 2006) the new application says it cannot read the files and how to find them on the system to reimport?!

When I open iPhoto 9.2.1 it says that my library needs to be upgraded but when I upgrade the library I am trying to open (33 GB worth of pictures from 2006) the new application says it cannot read the files and how to find them on the system to reimport?! and then I'd like to erase the original files since the space requirement is huge!!!! Why is upgrading software iPhoto such a pain. I've gotta get a presentation done and all I get for my money is roadblock!!!

hello, it sounds like the library is damaged.
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Upgraded to version 7.3 - Library file can not be saved - Unknown Error-50

I upgraded to version 7.3 and now I get a pop up error message that says the I Tunes library file can not be saved. The program reports an unknown error occurred (-50). The Pop up error message comes up every minute or so or any time I click on any item in ITunes.
I tried to contact Itunes and they sent me a link to this forum. Can someone please tell what to do to fix this problem or how to reach a real person at Itunes tech support?
    I am running Windows XP.

    Hi Ray,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions..
    Check out this link...
Many ppl are having this problem (myself included). I finally had to downgrade to 7.2 from a backup I had made earlier. 7.2, so far, hasn't caused me any problems so I'm waiting for 7.3.1.

  • Upgraded ilife last week-update today says library needs upgrade to work

I am afraid to allow this upgrade for fear I will lose my library. This is what pops up>>>>
The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto.
Library will not be readable by previous versions afterwards.
Please tell me what this means. Thanks

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

If you do not have the original install DVDs, use the Aperture Trial installer instead:
Try if this download link for the trial version still works: if yes, you can unlock it with your serial number:

  • I recently upgraded my mac desktop to oxs 10.9.2 and when I open my i photo library there are no pictures.  The message is "Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade.Scared to hit upgrade!!!

I recently upgraded my mac desktop to oxs 10.9.2 and when I opened i photo, it says the photo livrary needs to be upgraded to work with this version of I photo.  Where are my pictures?  The message is "Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of Iphoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process for very large libraries may take an hour or more to complete".  I'm scared to upgrade!!  Does this mean my photos can't be read once I upgrade?  Where are my pictures?

First have you backed up  your computer, if you have and your iPhoto library is in the back up you have nothing to be concerned about. If you are not using at least Time Machine to back up your system then you should be concerned because well frankly that is simply bad computing practice and you risking all of your data.
As for the message you received all that means is your system was using an earlier version of iPhoto with the version of OS X you previously had installed and now that you have updated to 10.9.2 (Mavericks) your version of iPhoto has also upgraded and  needs to get ready to import all of your pictures. If you have backup then you should be confident the upgrade will go through smoothly, Apple generally has very good instructions and will not give bad advice, second guessing them may be cautious but is generally unnecessary.

  • How can I remove the iPhoto upgrade to my iMac OSX 10.2.8? Can the upgrade return my library?

How can I remove the iPhoto upgrade to my iMac OSX 10.2.8? Can the upgrade return my library?

With respect, we'll need rather more detail than that.
In general, you can only roll back an upgrade to a library with a back up. No back up, no roll back.
