can i update my 2009 mac book pro to an i5 or and quad core processor. if so where wolud you buy the processors from and what are they called
Well, there is a way, but you probably have already thought of it.
Someone out there is just itching to get their hands on your used MacBook Pro through eBay or a classified ad. Upgrading your MacBook Pro to whatever processor you want will only cost you the difference between what you sell yours for and the price of a new one.

Just upgraded my mac book pro to the lion operating system, the next day my printer broke. Went to buy a new printer that supports AirPrint because I also have an iPad ( my old printer did NOT support AirPrint ). The printer I bought is an HP that said it supported AirPrint, when I installed the printer and try to run the installation software it said the printer did not support lion. Any answers or suggestions, I would LOVE to be able to finally print from my iPad.
Check with HP whether the printer and/or printer driver is compatible with Lion. Any hint as to what printer?

How to upgrade MAC Book Pro with OS X 10.5.8 to OS X 10.6
I have a MAC book Pro (Intel core 2 Duo based) HW Rev 3.1. I am trying to upgrade to OS X 10.6.
When i tried inplace upgrade it errored out with a message that I cannot upgrade. I wiped the disk clean using Disk utility and tried booting with the 10.6 DVD. I start the installation and errors out with the same error "cannnot upgrade". I did not get any further information on why it is not letting me install. I am using the CD from another MAC Book Pro I got few months back. Any help is highly appreciated.The install DVD from the new model MacBook Pro will not run on your older MacBook Pro. The 10.6 install DVD is machine-specific.
You need to purchase the retail version of Snow Leopard to install OSX10.6 on your older Macbook Pro. -
The OS X Mountain Lion I tried to download Wi-Fi on Mac Book Pro was not successfull. Should I buy it again? Should I check with Apple store for credit?
I successfully instaled it in iMac, but have problem with laptp. I also think I should not have bought 2 upgardes, becase if I have 2 computers, one paid upgrade is good for both computers. Am I wrong? SOmeone can advise how to proceed? I want to try again through Ethernet - cable internet - instead of Wi-Fi. Thank youYou should not have paid twice. If you logged into the App Store with the same AppleID as you used to purchase Mountain Lion the first time, you should not have been charged again.
If you internet connection is not working well enough to download it, do you have access to another network that might be faster? Perhaps and Apple Store nearby? -

hello all i just replaced my hard drive in Mac mini and was wondering if that drive could fit in Mac book pro.

every time after I have upgraded my macbook pro I am unable to upgrade to mountion lion , it aways will either go blank and I have to start fresh from cd system going all the way till I get to last upgrade and then loss everything. any help or what is happening
<Edited by Host>you are correct, I have had my mac at geek squad to correct this problem and they could not find the fix other thanit was a hard drive problem and they replaced the hard drive and that did not fix the problem, they said it could be the speed of the HD I used as a replacement ,which was 7200,o the nw one is 5800 yet I still or they could not upgrade . they were used a jump drive and they tried to down load from itunes no luck. I started out wth the install disk and stepped up ,what could be wrong?

How much does it cost to upgrade a mac book pro 2010 mid range?
I want to find how much upgrading Mac book pro mid range? Ideally a list of what can be upgraded and how much.....and i know apple can upgrade, i do not care about the cost or if it is worth it.... just want to know how much and what can be upgraded...
The performance bottleneck for your MBP is the hard drive.
You will see significant improvements in overal performance by upgrading the HD to a SSD.
Btw, Apple is not in the business of upgrading your existing MBP. Apple rather you buy a new MacBook Pro.
In all fairness to Apple, the 2011 MBP quad-core is almost twice as fast as the 2010 MBP dual-core for multi-core aware applications.

No. The newest OS that Mac can be upgraded to is Lion 10.7.5.

I am running mountain lion os 10.8.5 on mac book pro mid 2012 build. If I upgrade to Mavericks will MS Office programs still work? There does not appear to be an updated version of MS Office for Mac past 2011 that I bought last year and am using now. Thoughts? Suggestions?
Thanks.Office 2008 and 2011 will run on Mavericks, but you may not be able to get the installer for it at this time.

I have been trying import VHS video into iMovie via a Hollywood Dazzle bridge. I have been successful doing this in the past, but now it is not working. I have a mac book pro, 10.9.1, (mavericks), iMovie 10.0.2. Everything in iMovie looks like it is working. It reads "recording" in the upper left hand corner of the pane while the video is playing. When I stop the process to check on my clip it says that the file is empty. The only thing that has changed since I did it successfully is that I upgraded to mavericks from whatever I had previously. My system is about one year old. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help! I was able to go to iMovie 9.0.9 and import video. I was still curious as to why it didn't work in version 10.0.2, so I contacted Apple tech support. They were't sure at first as to why it wouldn't work, so they had me delete iMovie 10.0.2 and then re-install it just to see if something had gone wrong when it upgraded. That didn't change anything. In the end, they determined that 10.0.2 doesn't support the Hollywood Dazzle DV bridge. But I have a workaround path from them that I will share so that it's possible to import to 9.0.9, then move it to 10.0.2.
1. Open iMovie 9 (finder/applications/iMovie 9.0.9
2. Import from Dazzle Bridge to iMovie 9, note which event you are importing the clips into
3. Close iMovie 9
4. Open iMovie 10 (probably in the dock)
5. File/Import Media...navigate to home(this was my name, on the left side of iMovie, under Favorites)/Movies/iMovie events. Find the event folder that contains your Dazzle clips (tip-try sorting by date modified to look at recent events.)
6. Select the clips and import. Click the blue "Import Selected" button on the bottom right.
You may get a message that some files cannot be imported. Click continue import. It's a little glitchy. It imports your clip, and also makes a copy of it, too. On the copy, the audio is normal, but the video is choppy. In any case, you would delete the copy, anyway.

We have 3 user profiles on mac book pro. want to upgrade to lion but want to be sure that all users are backed up to ext hard drive via Time Machine. When I go into Time Machine - I cant find anywhere my user account (1 of the 3) - loads of photos and documents. For other user accounts - if i go to open a folder i cant ''no permission'' is the message. All I want to be sure of is that there is a back up and for these 2 reasons I am far from sure.

Be sure they're not excluded in Time Machine Preferences > Options.
Also, if iPhoto is open while a backup is running, Time Machine may not be able to back up the changes in the iPhoto Library. It will "catch up" the next time, if it can.

That's correct; one user, even an Admin user, doesn't normally have access to another user's files. You should see the same behavior if you try to look at their data on your Mac.
Log on as the other users (or have them do it) to see their backups. -
Itunes will not launch after upgrading to 11.1.5 with my 10.6.8 mac book pro
as soon as I upgraded to the new itunes, when clicking on the icon in the dock I noticed the icon bounced up and down once but itunes never opened up. Tried it latter in the day and it still would not open. My operating system is 10.6.8and I have the current apple updates installed up to this date today. the funny thing is I waited on the itunes update, and then decided to go ahaead and upgrade and soon as I did, well you know what happened. If I could ask a second question, what if I just went back to the original software version when I bought this computer, would I have less problems. I tried this earlier because of problems with flash and my nikon software needed the apple upgrades to work (they no longer make the older version). BUt when I worked it on the original software everything worked great (no nikon) but I could not see the videos on youtube, and other internet content on various sites. So my question is, if I decide to cut and run back to my old home, how could I solve the the flash problem or could I just get an earlier version of flash? My mac book pro I beleive came with 10.6.4, or what ever they had about three years ago around November. But this itunes thing is really bothering me and if I can fix this then I will avoid any further iupgrades even if someone puts a gun to my head. Just kidding. Thank you again for your help
My MBP (15", early 2009 model, 8GB RAM, 1TB internal drive) showed in Software Update as not needing any other updates, and I downloaded from Apple's site directly and installed iTunes 11.1.5 rather than doing it via Software Update (I've had some glitches with the 'direct' install from SU in the past, so I manually download updates from Apple's support website instead).
Hoping Apple will figure out what's wrong with this version under 10.6.8... -

Have seen CS3 (I have) mentioned as working with Maverick/Yosemite
Current Photoshop is creative cloud - you do not have to purchase all elements - instead of lump sum, Adobe charges a monthly license fee - the software resides on your mac - and the mac has to check in once a month to keep the license going - updates are part of the deal.
CS6 apparently is still available if you want to pay the lump sum for an upgrade. -
