Upgrade MDS 9124E Fabric Switch hor HP c-Class

        Hi
all SAN switches MDS95XX and MDS9124e24 port  must be upgraded from NX-OS 4.1.3a to NX-OS 5.2.2d
I have no details on the process for switch HP 9124 e.
Is it disruptif  . How many steps from 4.1.3a to 5.2.2d .
Generally is the process the same with HP 9124e than MDS9124
Best regards

  • HP MDS 8/12c Fabric Switch.

    hi
I have HP C7000 enclosure , with  MDS 8/12c Fabric switch. the enclosure is in production and connected directly to HP and IBM storage.
I have new 24 port Brocade switch. , what is the best solution for connecting to the new Brocade switch with minimus distruption, does the Inertop mode in that configuration supported.
    regards

So Brocade will become your "core" switch ? I would look into utilizing NPIV on brocade and enabling NPV mode on MDS. Enabling NPV mode is disruptive, it will erase all configuration from the MDS switch. If your hosts are running multipathing software you should be able to do it one fabric at a time. You will need to convert your MDS zoning into Brocade zoning so when you move storage ports to Brocade and connect MDS (post NPV conversion) to Brocade ..if all zones are already in place, hosts will login to storage ports and multipathing software should re-establish the paths.

  • MDS FC Blade Switch for IBM - Licensing

    Hi,
our customer has got installed the 20-port-switch of the "Cisco MDS Fibre Channel Blade Switch for IBM BladeCenter". He wants to change some of the links now. For that reason he asked me:
    - Is there a fix relationship between a port and a license?
    - Can we use any port as long as we fall below the number of licenses?
    Thanks in advance and regards
    Matthias

    Hello Matthias,
Cisco Fabric Switch for IBM BladeCenter (20 ports; 14 internal 2/4 Gbps, and 6 external full-rate ports) licenses for internal ports are allocated as the ports come up. Licenses for external ports are allocated sequentially.
Refer "On-Demand Port Licensing" section on CLI guide here :
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/storage/san_switches/mds9000/sw/rel_3_x/configuration/guides/cli_3_3/ondport.html
Customer can select the specific external ports he wants licensed.
    switch# config t
    switch(config)# interface fc1/1
    switch(config-if)#port-license acquire

  • MDS 9124e - Port 'Externally Disabled'

    Hi Guys
Hoping you can help with this one..
On a MDS9124e switch installed in a HP C-Class Blade Enclosure I am seeing the port status as 'Externally Disabled' The port has acquired a license OK but will not come up.
The same problem was refrenced at http://forum.cisco.com/eforum/servlet/NetProf?page=netprof&forum=Data%20Center&topic=Storage%20Networking&CommCmd=MB%3Fcmd%3Dpass_through%26location%3Doutline%40%5E1%40%40.1ddf9f63/0#selected_message
But I cannot find any settings in the HP Onboard Admin that would enable a port on the fabric switch.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Stuart

    Hi Phil
The Onboad Administrator Port Mapping for the 9124e in question was showing as connected on that port which was why I thought it was strange that the port was showing as 'extDisabled' on the switch in 'show interface brief'.
The blade is at a remote side so this morning I had the HBA mez card reseated and the port has now come up on the switch, not sure if it was the reseating of the card or the insertion of the blade into the enclosure that cured it.
    Thanks for your reply!!

  • MDS9216 & MDS9124 Fabric Switches interface stats. via SNMP

    Dear All,
I am interested in monitoring the interface statistics (In/Out bytes) of MDS9216 & MDS9124 Fabric Switches via SNMP and have been researching on what OID (MIB) values shall i poll? Would anyone be able to help me please? I have looked at many places but the closest I could get is the IF-MIB MIB Interface which has ifTable giving ifInOctets and ifOutOctest per port !  I am not sure if this is what i am suppose to poll as the ifInOctets gives 'the total number of octets recieved on the interface' and not the traffic ? What i am interested in is knowing the traffic (rx / tx) on the port at the time of polling so i can poll them say every 5 min. and plot them via something like cacti.
Please let me know if any one has got any suggestion as I am not getting anywhere on this.
    Thanks in advance.

not sure if that will give you what you need.  We use solarwinds to monitor our MDS's.

What's the format of your video? That will give you a hint as to what plugin is failing (or missing).
If you don't know, what's the URL of your site - it shouldn't take long for someone to work out the specifics.

Unfortunately you can't, the additional storage belongs to your first account, you can't transfer it.

  • I upgraded my laptop and switched my mail

I upgraded my laptop and switched my mail to iCloud not knowing I was about to lose access to my mail on my desktop iMac (which will not upgrade to iCloud). Can I use an email client (i.e. Eudora) on the iMac and download mail from iCloud? Otherwise, I have to open Safari, sign in to iCloud, then mail, before obtaining my mail. I would like to click an email on my desktop and the be able to access email.

    Ok. . . . SUCCESS!
After stressing out for a couple of hours I got up and walked away! I went back in a couple of hours, opened the instructions (that you first gave) and took my time following each step. Thanks for having a little patience with me. The result worked. . . . thanks a lot.

  • My 4s worked fine until i upgraded to IOS8. Is anyone starting a class action lawsuit against Apple?

My 4s worked fine until i upgraded to IOS8. Is anyone starting a class action lawsuit against Apple?

I already had all of the features turned off, had 20% free, all transparency were turned off and a few apps were on refresh and now are all turned off.
Like I said, my phone worked fine until I installed IOS 8 and now the screen will freeze intermittingly and runs very slowly when searching it. In other words IOS 8 significantly diminished the operation of a perfectly good phone and Apple will not let you roll it back to IOS 7. They F’d up my phone intentionally to sell us all the latest model.

  • Cisco MDS 9216i Multilayer Fabric Switch

I have a question in regards to fibre channel over ip. this switch will allow for san traffic to flow over the wan link to a remote site, however my question would be, can this switch plug into an existing fibre channel switch (EMC Connectix) and route the traffic over the link or would the current switch need to be replaced with this device?

Yes, think of the FCIP connection as just an ISL link abeit that it is over an IP connection. So, you are just creating a multi-switch environment. Again, it's probably not recommended to route over a FC ISL link to get to a MDS doing FCIP but also, its not the end of the world. It depends on how much the FCIP replication traffic is occuring and if you are overloading the FC ISL links. The speeds will autonegotiate to their maximum speeds and you can create portchannels to the EMC switch to consolidate bandwidth. Just turn the loadbalancing to src/dst if that emc switch is not a MDS rather than default src/dst/oxid.

  • Upgrade of 9124e from 3.3.1a to 4.2.1b hangs during Supervisor reset

Has anyone else using 9124e switches in HP c7000 blade chassis run into this?  I tried to upgrade the firmware from 3.3.1a to 4.2.1b.  According to the upgrade guides this should be a non-disruptive upgrade, and we successfully did this upgrade on our regular 9124's and 9134's.  Everything looked good on the compatablity check and everything looked good as the upgrade proceeded.  When it got to the point in the upgrade where the supervisor should reset, the switch stopped responding.  I was connected from the chasis onboard administrator to the serial port on the switch when it stopped responding, and I could not telnet or ssh to the switch and it did not respond to pings.  After about 15 mins the ISL showed down and all the HBA's had disconnected.  I removed and reinserted the switch back into the chassis, and it came up normally and was running the 4.2.1b code, all of the configs looked good and everything reconnected
Thinking that maybe 3.3.1.a to 4.2.1b was too big of a jump, I tried to do a 3.3.1a to 4.1.3a upgrade.   This produced the same results.  After this I did a 4.1.3a to 4.2.1b upgrade and this went fine with no disruption.  I looks like the upgrade is having problems going from 3.3.1a to 4.x.x.  I talked to HP on this and am waiting to hear back from them, but I was curious if this has happened to anyone else.
    Thanks
    Jeff

I switched everything off, left it off and then just had another go.
Its working, setting up a new iPod.

  • HP Blade Cisco MDS 9124e

    Hello all,
I got a new c7000 with some MDS swithes.  I'm trying to get to the latest software.  I started at 4.1.x and can only get to 4.2.9.  I'm then trying to upgrade to 5.0.4d it fails.  In Fabric Manager it fails during copying and when i try to install via CLI i get the following:
    -- FAIL. Return code 0x       0 (success).
Install has failed. Return code 0x40930068 (Runtime check failed).
Please identify the cause of the failure, and try 'install all' again.
Currently i have 5.0.7 FM installed.  So question is can i get to 5.0?
Another question is can i get to 5.2.2 with using FM 5.0.7?  Or do i have to install DCNM?
Thanks for your time and support,
    Nick

You can map internal to external using VSANs...Put the blade in slot x in vsan xxx and the external internal interface also into vsan xxx.
The real question is why you need to do this?  The external ports are usually used for ISLs to a core swtich, and they can be TE ports which carry multiple VSANs.
If you install a storage unit into one of the external ports, you can limit access by zoning.  The blade port and the external port would need to be in the same VSAN, and then on that VSAN you can create a zone/zoneset to permit the blade to access the storage port.
There really is no need to map traffic between the internal and external ports per se.
If you can provide more details as to what you need to accomplish, we can provide a more accurate reply.
Unless you are well versed in FSPF and fiber channel routing, I would steer clear of the fcroute commands or you could end up with asymetric traffic flows.
    HTH,
    Mike

  • Shoul I upgrade MDS 9222i and MDS 9124 both have SANOS 3.3.2 to 3.3.5?

    Hi guys,
I have 2 MDS 9222i, 2 MDS 9124 and 10 MDS Blades Switches (IBM Blades) all have SANOS 3.3.2.
All those swicthes are attached to external drives (IBM DS4800) IBM requested to upgrade this DS4800 firmware level but in order to do that they told me that I need a new SANOS I plan to upgrade it to SANOS 3.3.5 can someone tell me if this SANOS works alright? or What SANOS do yoy recommend me?
    Thanks in advance

The Cisco TAC will always defer to your Original Storage provided when asked which
image to run, as they (the Original Storage providers) qualify our images for use with their
    devices.

  • Enabling VM Guest NLB w/Multicast IGMP on 2012 Hyper-V host w/ converged SCVMM fabric switch

    What a mouthful.
    As short as possible:
    WHAT I'M ATTEMPTING:
I'm trying to build a new NLB cluster for a 2008 R2 SP1 Remote Desktop Services farm. And I'm trying to do it the right way, with multicast igmp, not unicast.
The two guest VMs with NLB install converge fine. VIP gets this:
    IP: 192.168.100.157
    MAC: 01-00-5e-7f-64-9d
NLB NIC is on the same VLAN & "Converged switch" in VMM as our mgmt/server traffic (That is to say it's on production VLAN, not on a separate vlan)
    PROBLEM:
Can't ping 100.157. From VM guest itself, from host, or from Cisco 6509 switch.
Cisco show mac address lookup does not see that MAC anywhere
show ip igmp groups shows not igmp traffic at all. Clearing counters show sno multicast increment.
    FURTHERMORE:
    Host is setup thusly:
    - Dell R810
    - 8x1GbE Broadcom 5709c in a Server 2012 LACP/HASH team built via VMM powershell cmdlets
    - On the physical switch side, those 8 nics are in a Cisco port-channel, trunked, all VLANs allowed
    -  Host has no "physical" nics per se, as in a 2008 R2 hyper-v host. Instead Host has these:
Set-VMNetworkAdapter -ManagementOS -Name "Live Migrate" -MinimumBandwidthWeight 35
Set-VMNetworkAdapter -ManagementOS -Name "MGMT" -MinimumBandwidthWeight 25
Set-VMNetworkAdapter -ManagementOS -Name "CSV" -MinimumBandwidthWeight 40
    Set-VMNetworkAdapter -ManagementOS -Name "iSCSI #1" -MinimumBandwidthWeight 0
    Set-VMNetworkAdapter -ManagementOS -Name "iSCSI #2" -MinimumBandwidthWeight 0
Set-VMNetworkAdapter -ManagementOS -Name "Aux" -MinimumBandwidthWeight 0
Get-VMSwitch outputs this on the converged v-switch:

    Name : My awesome switch

    Question:
Aside from a few of my favorite MS MVPs (shout out to
WorkingHardInIt for having this same question), I can't find much documentation on employing 2008 R2 NLB on guest VM within a fabric-oriented, VMM-built 2012 Hyper-Visor converged switch (no network virtualization...yet).
Yes I know all about VMM NLB but 1) I'm trying to wedge NLB in after building these VMs without a service template (NLB is the audible, essentially) and 2) MS NLB is configured in providers & I've created requisite VIP templates.
Even so, I ought to be able to create an NLB cluster without VMM's assistance in this scenario correct? Suboptimal, I know but possible, yes? Essentially I've put to synthetic NICs on each VM, set IPs manually, and assigned them to the same vlan. I can ping
each synthetic NIC, but not the cluster IP.
And yes: these particular vNICs have Mac Address Spoofing enabled.
    Cisco:
I have a TAC case open with Cisco, but they can't quite figure it out either. IGMP Snooping enabled across the switch. And they insist that the old static arp entry to resolve this problem is no longer necessary, that Microsoft now complies with relevant
    RFCs
    Possible SOlution:
Only thing I can think of is flipping MulticastForwarding param below from disabled to enabled. Anybody ever tried it on a converged virtual switch on the Hyper visor? Is my virtual converged switch protecting
    me from multicast igmp packets?

Sorry for the poor follow-up Steven. We are using Server 2012 Hyper-V, not VMWare, on the hosts. You can close this but for the benefit of anyone who comes across it:
After working with Cisco, we decided not to implement multicast IGMP. Cisco says you still need to create a static ARP entry on the physical switch, though my cluster IP address & Microsoft NLB 2008 R2 were set up with igmp multicast, not multicast or
    unicast. Here was his email:
Yes, we will need the static mapping for the NLB server in this case because the NLB mac address is multicast and the IP address is unicast. I was under the impression that even the server would be using IGMP but that’s not
the case. We won’t need to do the mapping for the nodes though if they use IGMP. To this end, following is the configuration that should make this work.rp 192.168.100.157
    0100.5e7f.649d arpa
    <u5:p></u5:p>
    mac address-table static 0000.0000.649d vlan <> interface <> disable-snooping
ßThis is the switch interface where the NLB server is located<u5:p></u5:p>
     interface vlan<>
    <u5:p></u5:p>
ip pim sparse-dense-mode     <- This is needed for the switch to elicit IGMP joins from the nodes<u5:p></u5:p>
    end<u5:p></u5:p>
I don't think it got through to him that there was a virtual Layer 2/3 Hyper-V switch on top of 8 teamed GbE interfaces in LACP/hash. "Where the NLB server is located" = 1)a Cisco port-channel bound to one of six physical hosts; the NLB VM itself could be
on any of those port channels at any given time (We have a six node Hyper-V cluster).
Once I enabled pim I did see activity; but we killed this later as we realized we'd have to implement the same on 40+ managed routers globally
Anyway we further would have had to implement this across managed routers at 40 sites globally according to Cisco.
