Upgrade memory

it is possible to upgrade memory on iMac 24-inch Late 2006 up to 8 GB from 3 GB

Your welcome, there are hardware limitations on all the machines. If you want more than 4GB then it's time to upgrade to a new machine. You have gotten 5 1/2 years of service out of yours so you may be ready for one. Current iMacs can address up to 32GB of RAM and are orders of magnitude faster than your machine.

Upgraded both computers in the household and found Lion is too disruptive to workflow.
Do I turn in the new laptop for a pre-Lion rebuild to keep Snow Leopard, or do I return new computer and get upgraded memory to improve performance of existing MacBookPro?  I'm mostly still happy with existing MacBookPro, but Aperture doesn't work, the computer can't handle it.
Other possibility is setting up virtual machine with Snow Leopard server software on new computer.
Any opinions on what would allow moving forward with the least hassle and best workflow continuity?

Can anyone help me with upgrading memory in my older iMac? I currently only have 1gb of memory so as you can imagine my machine is quite slow. I check in my system profiler and it shows I do have a memory slot open. It is using a DDR2 and I was told that the latest are DDR3 and I need to find out if I can run that on my model number. This info came from a tech guy at best buy.

That is what I needed.  You can upgrade to a maximum of 6gb of ram and need the following type:
200-pin PC2-6400 (800MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM.  You can easily find it online, here is an example: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/iMac/Intel_Core_2_Duo_PC2-6400

The downloads are probably .dmg files (disk images).  You would open the disk image (double-click it) to find the application or an installer.  If it's the application itself, you then drag the application to your Applications folder to "install" it.  If it's an installer, double-click the installer to run the installer that installs the application.
NOTE:  If you iMac is Intel, it's not a PPC G5.

Please identify your desktop PC with its product name and product number.
If you are upgrading and want the upgrade to work right the first time:
    1) Only replace memory in pairs of guaranteed compatible memory modules from well known manufacturers.
    2) Find compatible memory by searching online with your desktop PC's complete product name + upgrade memory as keywords in the search.
    4) Do not use the memory specifications from mtherboard specifications to match with memory modules that are sold by a vendor. Using this crapshoot method is a financial risk. It definitely increases chances of  a PC not even passing the POST (power on self test) of the BIOS during the PC's boot process. It does not take advantage of a manufacturer's big selling point...Guaranteed compatibility.

  • Upgraded memory results in connectivity problems. Why?

4 year old mac mini. Recently upgraded memory from 1gig to 4gig. Since then, after a short time online, I get notified I am disconnected. Says isp has failed, even tho there is strong signal. I cantinue diagnostic steps. Notification pops up that says the configuration has changed. Then I am reconneced. Never stays reconnected for long. All physical components fine, checked out at apple store.
Any ideas on what the problem is?

Upgrade memory on a 800 MHz PowerPC G4
I believe I can add more PC133 SDRAM memory to my mac, but have been advised that not all memory works, how do I know what works and what does not?
If you can use this link, here is a really good price...

Please advise, the last thing I want to do is buy the wrong memory and install something that doesn't work. THANKS!

    Hello,
    1. There are two slots as shown in the photos below:
The left one being the SODIMM "User" slot and the right image showing the DIMM "Factory" slot.
When Apple published the maximum RAM for the iMac 800MHz it was based on the fact that in both DIMM and SODIMM form 512Mb was the largest capacity on the market hence 2 x 512Mb = 1Gb max. If it is now possible to get a 1Gb PC133 DIMM then theoretically 1.5Gb could be the max but I have heard nothing to confirm that this actually works in an iMac G4.
Crucial always stick to Apple's specs and hence 1024Mb.
    2. I suspect that you have 1 x 256Mb PC133 168pin DIMM (factory) and 1 x 256Mb PC133 144pin SODIMM (later upgrade). You can check this by looking at the contents of J13/J14 memory slots in  Apple Menu > About This Mac > More Info... > Hardware/Memory

I just purchased used Z0FZ004R2 Macbook Pro. I belive it is 2009 moel. I was wondering if I can upgrade memory to 8GB even tho  specs say 4GB max

    Thank you for quick response

    - 30mm (1.18 inch)
    - 2 GB
    - 204-pin
    - PC3-8500 DDR3 1066 MHz type RAM
So I have to buy this specific type of RAM?
    I was looking into buying
    Type: 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM

    Speed: DDR3 1333 MHz (PC3 10600)
    Timings: CL11

  • Warranty and upgrading memory

I'm thinking of upgrading the RAM on my iBook G4 12" from 512MB to 1.5GB but I have a question.. if I fit the memory myself will it void the 1 year warranty I got when I purchased my iBook?
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

No, it is a do it yourself procedure that will not affect your iBook warranty or AppleCare. The new item will not be included in your Apple warranty unless purchased from Apple, but most suppliers have lifetime warranties on their RAM. Apple's instructions and photos here, just select your model: http://www.apple.com/support/diy/
