Upgrade & move Elements 5 to Elements 10

I have upgraded from Elements 5 to Elements on a new computer. I moved the catalog, but the links are broken - as far as I can tell due to changes in the path names forced by different hard drive volume names. Any suggestions as to the best way to re-establish the links between tags & files? I tried editing the access data base for the catalog, but that didn't appear to work. I'm thinking about installing elements 10 on my old machine, then trying to move it to my new machine. Has anyone done anything like this? Thanks.

The way to move the images and catalog is to use PSE5 on your old computer to make a backup of your catalog to an external drive
FYI - I repeated this sentence from the previous post in order to suggest that prior to doing this backup from PSE 5, you do the
File > Catalog > Recover command under PSE 5.  (this does a general catalog cleanup of the v5 catalog)
Note: the v5 Catalog Backup process may initiate a Reconnect process. It is important that all your photo, video, music files which are in your PSE 5 catalog have their current Windows folder location known to the PSE catalog, so  you should let the Reconnect process (started during the PSE 5 backup command) complete normally and you should resolve any "missing files" that are presented to you during the Reconnect process.

  • Upgrade to Element 12 and move to new computer.

I have my pictures in an old computer in Element 8. I want to move them to a new computer and upgrade to Element 12. How do I do this?

Ps I should clarify that I updated to iTunes 12.1

  • How do I move Elements 11 photos and catalogue from iMac to new iMac both running Yosemite?

I've been researching best way to move my photos and catalogue from my current iMac to my new iMac.  I'm using Elements 11.  Both iMacs running Yosemite.  I know I need to deactivate the current computer's version of Elements if putting it on the new one runs me over the license limit - I don't think it will.  I have read enough to be pretty sure I have to NOT migrate the Elements 11 program to the new iMac because it won't work properly - I'll have to reinstall it from my installation disc on the new iMac.  So far, so good.
Now, I want the easiest way to get the photos on the new iMac, in the same folders, and preserve the catalogue and my current ratings on the photos.  I am unclear on how the catalogue works with its backup and restore function.  Should I move all my photos in their folders in exactly the same locations on my new iMac before installing Elements and trying to restore the catalogue?  I read about the ways to restore the catalogue and I am unsure about whether it just looks for the pictures in the places it expects to find them (which will be the same if I copy everything on to the new iMac first), or whether it restores the pictures where it thinks they should be (in which case I should NOT put the pictures on the new iMac before restoring the catalogue or I'll end up duplicating everything).   Also I have read - and been confused by - the options about restoring catalogue in new location, old location, etc.  I don't want my folders changed.  I have my pictures stored where I want them and I want to keep them there - and I'd prefer not to add some extra layer under the basic My Pictures on my iMac.
I have stored the most recent version of the catalogue, with all photos reconnected, on an external drive.  All the pictures in the catalogue have their meta-data associated with them.  I hope that this will allow me to preserve ratings.  Going through thousands of pictures to find the really good ones again is a time-consuming mess.  When I went from Windows to Mac 3 years ago - I lost the catalogue and all ratings.  When I upgraded from Elements 9 to Elements 11, I lost the catalogue and all ratings.  I do NOT want to ever go through that again.

I appreciate your answer and agree that it is correct, but you told me nothing I did not know.  There is an Elements technical paper which says this in much greater detail, but still does not answer the questions I was trying to ask.
The catalogue file seems much too small to include my thousands of photos.  Are you telling me that it has magically reduced the size of all those photos - from 64 GB to 33 GB, and added the catalogue information - so that the photos will just appear out of nothing but that smaller catalogue file when I restore catalogue?  If so, will you explain the options of same location, new location, new location with existing file structure, etc?
I understand installing the program.  I understand that I should backup the catalogue (I've done it).  I understand I will use restore to restore the catalogue.  I found all this on other sites.  I need someone, somewhere, to explain to me if I need to copy the photos themselves to their new location before I restore catalogue - or not.  And which option in restore to use.  I thought I explained this in my original question.  Any help on these questions about matters I do not understand will be appreciated.

  • Upgrading from Elements 8 to 11

I purchased Elements 8 from Amazon as a CD and upgraded to Elements 11 by downloading from the Adobe website. I am changing computers and would like to know how to go about reloading Elements 11. Do I still require my CD copy of Elements 8 and then redownload E11 from the website? Or will I be able to go directly to my account in the Adobe website and download E11 without having to resort to my copy of E8?
    Thanks

Use backup and restore starting in PSE8 on your old computer. It's easiest using an external hard drive.
Install PSE11 on the new computer, plug in your extrnal drive and use the restore command; navigating to the TLY file which contains all of your catalog as well as the images.
See these notes for all versions from PSE6 and above.

  • Upgrading from Elements 9 to 11

I currently have Elements 7 & Elements 9 installed on my laptop. Neither will open raw files from my Nikon D3200 I just purchased. I was told I need Elements 11. If I upgrade to Elements 11, can I upgrade from 9 to 11, or do I also have to upgrade to 10 first. Also, can I combine my organizer photos from 7 & 9 into one organizer if I upgrade to Elements 11?

first, you can probably just use the dng converter 7.4:  http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2013/04/camera-raw-7-4-and-dng-converter-7-4-now-a vailable.html
second, you can upgrade from any previous version to 11:  http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop-elements/buying-guide.displayTab3.html
third, to migrate catalogs:  http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/backup-restore-move-catalog-photoshop.html#ma in_Special_notes_if_you_restore_a_catalog_from_a_previous_version_of_Photoshop_Elements
p.s. if you want to integrate camera raw with photoshop elements, you were informed correctly that you will need version 11.

How do I move Elements 8 projects (slide shows) from a Windows XP computer to new Windows 7 computer that also has Elements 8 on it so that the slides shows will work (Elements 8 works well on the Windows 7 computer & I have done several new slide show projects on it)?    I tried backup & restore without success.  I have also found the .psess files and copied them to the catalog in the new computer but when the sides shows are opened none of the images or music is there.  Only the text that I entered shows.  I have even tried to replicate the file paths from the XP computer to the new computer to see if that will help.

UPDATE:  By a stroke of luck I happened to find a catalog link (a PSE8D file) in the 'My Catalog' file where the imported data was stored.  When I clicked on it to investigate what is was 'magically' all of my transferred projects appeared in Organizer.  Upon further investigation I found that the projects transferred from my XP computer were stored in a hidden catalog that had to be accessed through the Custom Location option in Catalog Manager (accessed by clicking File then Catalog then Custom Location).  No Windows or Elements search revealed this fact.  I am appreciative that I just got lucky.  The Adode/Photoshop company was absolutely of no help.  If fact to me their structure is designed to avoid contact with their customers unless you're buying a new product.  Their products have many good features (even though user unfriendly) and it's a shame they don't value their customers more once the sale is completed.
Bottom line:  All of the projects (sideshows) have been recovered and work in my new Windows 7 computer.  I hope my experience helps others.

How do I move element 9 from my old xp computer to my new windows 8 computer?

If you have an installation disc for Elements 9, then I would suggest that you uninstall Elements 9 from your old computer, de-activate during the uninstallation. On Windows 8 computer, insert the disc and install Elements 9, activate it during installation. However, it is not tested, according to this document from Adobe: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4527508. Let me know how it goes.

  • Duplicate photo's in Revel and Elements after upgrade to Elements 12

I subscribed to Revel in Nov. 2013 and used my Windows Elemennts 11 app to upload all my photos.  I recently upgraded to Elements 12 and linked it to my Revel account.  This resulted in complete duplication of every image both in Revel and in my Elements 12 catalog.  I tried deleting the duplicates in Elements 12, but since there are thousands, it is not feasible.
What are my options?  Do I delete the Revel photos after unlinking the Revel account from Elements?  Can I rebuild my Elements 12 catalog from the picture files, (I had the metadata written to each file).?  Is there any automated way to delete duplicates in my Elements 12 catalog?
I would have thought Adobe would have thought through how this could occur and provided upgrade safeguards against duplication.
    Help!

    jfairbai,
Kindly try the steps below to recover from this issue.
In Elements, From Edit>Preferences>Adobe Revel, turn OFF “Automatically access all my catalog in Adobe Revel” if checked.
Sign out from Revel inElements through the same Adobe Revel preferences dialog.
    Click on Sign in again.
Select Signin as another user. This action deletes the downloaded smaller previews of media in catalog.
    Now you have two options:
After step 4, sign in again with same user but choose to upload specific photos only while signin in. In this case all photos and video would not automatically be uploaded to Revel and you would need to mark the media manually for upload which are not there on Revel but are in Elements catalog. You need to be cautious of not choosing “All photos and videos” later as well as whenever you do so, the media would be duplicated again. Also here the media on Revel and Elements are not linked as both of them are different copies. So if you edit one, other is not updated.
After steps 4, delete all media from Revel application and login again from Elements with the same user. This option takes more time as all upload happen again but this will ensure that the media in Elements and Revel are linked. So if any changes happen like editing or adding tags, captions, the changes are refelected in other as well.
Elements also provide a way to remove duplicate photos through Find>by visual searches> Duplicate photos. This option present you with a dialog where you can see the duplicate photos grouped. However this option would take a lot of time as well as for each group, you would manually check the location of media by mouse hovering an ensuring that you are deleting the smaller sized preview and keeping the large sized original locally.

  • Will my catalog safely Upgrade from Elements 5 to Elements 8?

I have over 16,000 photos tagged in my Elements 5 catalog.  I am hesitant to upgrade to 8 for fear of not being able to reconnect to the catalog.  Any assurances or tips?  Chet

As long as there is nothing currently wrong with your catalog and nothing interferes with the conversion process, you should have a save catalog conversion.
Besides, when the conversion takes place, a copy of your catalog is created. So even if the conversion fails for some reason, you'll still have your original catalog working in PSE5.

  • Upgrade Album2 - Elements 6, with change of platform and computer

I posted this in Album Forum but it has been suggested that I repost in Elements Forum as anyone who has already had the same question is probably already here:
I have searched the forums and knowledge base for the issue that faces me and while there is a lot of very useful information most deals with one aspect alone or circumstances that are slightly different - unless I have missed one.
I currently have Album 2 (full version) with about 5000 photos along with tags etc, running on Windows XP.
I have just purchased a windows Vista Home Premium machine and Elements 6/Premiere 4. I wish, obviously, to transfer the photos and files along with thumbnails/catalog to the new machine. In doing this, it appears that I am doing three things that are not necessarily straight forward:
    (1) Transferring machines where the directory structure is not the same
    (2) Transferring platform from XP to Vista
    (3) Upgrading to Elements 6 which I understand does not use the same catalog structure and file locations as earlier versions of Elements.
So, while there are useful forum posts on upgrading, say, between album and elements 4, the changes between Elements 4 and 6 make me a little wary. I can pick up individual KB articles and posts on individual stages but I would be grateful for any advice from those who know more, or have done the same, on the order or actions to get between Album 2 XP to Elements 6 Vista. I suspect that done properly it is no major drama but done poorly is a recipe for long agony!
Thanks for any and all advice.

    jabro,
I am not sure what to suggest next -
1- You could contact Adobe tech support and ask for the complimentary installation support for PS Elements version 6 and describe your Catalog upgrade problem.
2- Because you are upgrading from PS Album to PS Elements 6, I think that most of your Creations will not be usable in PS Elements 6. So I am wondering about your creating a new copy of your catalog in PS Album 2 and deleting all of your Creations from that copy of your catalog?
My objective here is to simplify your PSA 2 catalog as much as possible. I don't know if it is the Creations that cause a problem in the conversion: it is merely that if you can not use them anyway they are a good candidate for deletion.
3- I wonder if some specific type of file or even a specific file is a problem. What type of photo files do you have in your PSA 2 catalog? Any video files and what type?
