It would be hard for me to say if upgrading the processor will make a significant difference in performance.
I have never installed a processor in a notebook PC myself, so I cannot give you any first hand tips.
The information to remove and replace the processor can be found in the service manual.
You cannot upgrade the video adapter.
You can upgrade the memory, but there wouldn't be much improvement there because your notebook has 3 GB already, to just replace the 1 GB chip with a 2 GB chip.
In order to really go beyond that, you would have to puchase a 64 bit operating system, and install 2 x 4 GB of memory which the memory alone would cost over $200.00.
As far as the newer BIOS, it is possible the notebook automatically updated it once after you got it. -

First think about memory and an SSD drive. Laptop processor upgrades are a big hassle and not cheap.

Hi everyone, i'm just curious as to whether or not I can upgrade the processor in my HP Pavilion g6-2244sa. It currently has the AMD E2-1800 APU (@1.70ghz, dual core) installed. It also has 8gb DDR3 RAM.
The laptop is awesome, it has a decent graphics card and can even play Skyrim on good settings. The only problem is that the processor isn't really up to scratch and games suffer from minor lag. I was curious as to whether or not it is possible to install a different processor such as the AMD E4 (@2.5ghz, dual core). I've seen other versions of the very same laptop with that processor installed.

AMDs do come in different speeds and a Quad Core running at a higher clock speed is "better" than a lower speed (or same speed) dual core but everything else being equal you do want to have an Intel processor in your laptop. This is hard for me to say as a long-time AMD afficianado and I still use AMD chips for desktops due to their pricing, but Intel has got AMD beat all to heck with laptops. Further, I am of the opinion that maybe 5% of the laptop processor upgrades that get discussed here ever get actually done. It is very hard to do and very expensive and with laptop prices at an all-time low it just makes no sense in the vast majority of cases.

I just bought a compaq presario cq62-210us, and I didn't realize that it had a single core celeron 900 processor, so what I was wondering is if it is possible to upgrade to a dual core processor.
I know that it is hard to upgrade the processor on laptops, but is there a specific chip that would fit in this model? If not, then is there a simuilar model that has the same internal configuration, that I could just switch the processor with the model I currently have?

I have a late 2009 Macbook Unibody and was curious about upgrading the processor. I just installed 8gigs of ram and was thinking about just trying to make it really fast. Memory vs. Processor upgrade? Processor upgrade requires OS 9?
I have a Power Mac G4 QS with a 733 MHz processor and 640 MB of RAM. I plan to use it mainly for video editing, and was thinking about upgrading the processor or RAM or perhaps both. My first question is, should I should upgrade just one (processor OR memory) or both?
My second question requires a bit of explaining. I've already installed all of the software I will be using before realizing that this computer didn't have a version of OS 9 installed (I'm running 10.3.8, I think; I'm actually not on that computer at the moment, so I can't check). I've read that in order to perform a processor upgrade, you have to run a firmware upgrade that only works in OS 9.2.2, so I was wondering, how add OS 9 on to the computer without messing up my OS and/or wiping out all of the software I've already installed?
(Yes, I'm a Mac newbie, at least as far as installation goes.)

I have a CQ60-214dx laptop. I would like to upgrade the processor in it to something else. I have read on the Internet that it is possible to swap out the processor as long as you find the right socket, wattage, etc. processor. Is there a list out there of what is compatible with the laptop I have? I was hoping to find a processor that would take it from a dual core machine to a core2duo machine. According to the specs page for your notebook it comes with a Pentium T3400 processor.
According to the service manual, link below, in Chapter 1, on page 1-1, it lists all supported processors that can be installed in your machine.

That means you can go from your little ol' T3400 processor, all the way up to the mighty T9600 if you want to.
You are 100% correct about needing to know the particulars about the processor's FSB speed, L2 cache, lithography, etc.
Apparently notebook PC's have a much wider range of processors one can install. In a desktop for example, rarely do you get such latitude.
In any event, the only thing you need to check for you PC, is the BIOS release notes to see if any are required to support a faster or newer processor.
I've taken the liberty of doing that for you and note that no BIOS updates are necessary to install any of the supported Intel processors listed for you notebook.
There is one other tool I like to use and that is the Intel Processor Comparison tool.
Here is a sample of comparisons for you to review for proessors that would work in your notebook.

I am surprised that your notebook can handle processors from 2 different code names.
I also don't like that the sockets supported are not named exactly the same. I googled the difference and it doesn't appear to matter.
However, it should have either the GM or PM 45 chipset which supports any of those Pentium processors listed in the manual.

I believe the GL40 chipset is for celeron processors only.
So, that is basically it in a nutshell. You should be able to upgrade to any of the Pentium processors listed.

I recently tried to upgrade the processor of my HP dv6700. I upgraded to an Intel T7500 and after reassembling the laptop and trying to power it up, the laptop shuts down after 1 second. The computer turns on, the fan makes a brief noise, and then the machine shuts down. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Hey, did you apply thermal paste to the new CPU? It may be shutting down because none of the heat it getting blown out by the fan. The thermal paste is a conductor of heat to allow it to be transferred to the copper which will get blown out of the laptop by the fan.
I also have a DV6700. May I ask how a motherboard melts down? I have had absolutely no problems with my laptop, and I've had it for 5-6 years.
