Need to upgrade bad graphics card Nvidia Geforce GT 230 1.5 GB

Hello @adb111,
I have read your post on how you are looking to upgrade the graphics card on your notebook computer, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
You can upgrade your system's graphics card to any model you prefer, so long as it meets the requirements listed from the Product Specifications for your computer:
1. The graphics card must be supported up to 460 watts
2. It must compatible with the motherboard's PCIe Express x16 (generation 1).
3. The graphics card must be able to fit into the space provided.
I hope this helps!

  • Nvidia GeForce GT540M - is it a certified graphics card for AECS5 & CS6?

I have a laptop with After Effects CS5 and CS6 installed on it. Both versions work fine but I recently installed Video Co-Pilot's Element 3D plug-in which couldn't activate due to OpenGL (required) not functioning. I did some ressearch and finally realized that the GT540M has caused a lot of problems for gamers and After Effects users in 2011/2012 due to it not being recognized by games and After Effects.
My laptop was custom made and I specifically asked it to have components that support OpenGL in After Effects CS5 which I was using at that time. The laptop dealer claims the GT540M is a compatible card, but I believe it is not a certified card from Adobes position. And certified or not simply doesn't work at any rate in AE CS5 or CS6. I have been working with a Nvidia technician through chat and with his help installed new drivers, old drivers, and set up the card properly in the Nvidia Contol Panel, but after Effects just doesn't recognize the card as being able to support OpenGL and GPU.
I specifically need links to official lists for After Effects CS5 compatible Nvidia cards to settle the issue. The Adobe lists I have found only displays newer info.I also can't find such lists on Nvidia.
Thanks in advance for your help.

There never were specific lists for CS5. The only lists that ever existed were useless in that they listed Quadro and other super-expensive cards as "recommended", but even those were never maintained properly and outdated quickly. Beyond that OpenGL is so basic, it should work in any card. Only support for CUDA is specific, but well, you are out of luck on that one, I suppose. What's not listed is not supported and everything else is just experimental mumbo-jumbo. Your issues with Element 3D are a different story, but that's nothing Adobe can fix. The E3D client does not use AE's OpenGL, it has its own core. You would have to send your crash dump to VC and let them provide a fix - if that is in any way feasible...

  • Will this card work? - Nvidia Geforce 6800 ULTRA 256MB VRAM AGP Video Card

I posted a question about getting the maximum resolution from an Apple 30 inch Cinema Display and another card, which didn't work.
The replies were fast here in the forum and quite correct.
My next question is regarding the Nvidia Geforce 6800 ULTRA 256MB VRAM AGP Video Card.
I have an AGP card with an ATi Radeon 9600 Pro card that can't power the 30 inch because it's only 64MB and no DVI output.
I'm wondering whether this card will give me the maximum resolution?
    Thanks again.

    Hi Japamac-
    Thanks for the quick reply.
My System Profiler indicates a ATI Radeon 9600 Pro, but it doesn't have the Dual Link since this is an older G5 with only 64MB of VRAM.
The GeForce 6800 is a refurb, but is Mac compatible.
I'm hoping that it will work, but since it won't be returnable, I don't want to spend the money needlessly.
I did order another card that the Apple support suggested should be compatible, but turned out that they sent me the PC version.
I've spoken to Apple as well and get conflicting info.
It boils down to the fact that this is a G5 with a late 2004 date.
It is fast enough for me and my only hang up is that I'm only getting 12980X800 resolution.
I'm not using it for gaming or graphics processing.
    HTH.

  • Video Card Upgrade - NVidia GeForce 8600 GT compatible with this PC?

I would like to upgrade my son's graphics card on his computer - an HP Pavilion D4100E with an AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3800+ 2.39 GHz running Windows XP.  Can anyone tell me if the GeForce 8600 GT is compatible?

The new GT240 bridges the gap in performance between 9600gt and 9800gt, adds a couple of new features, and uses significantly less power than the 9800gt and may use less than a 9600gt (due to NVidia moving to a 40nm manufacturing process for that chip.)

  • Can I upgrade my 27in Mid 2011 2.7GHz's graphics card?

Can I upgrade my 27in Mid 2011 AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512 MB 2.7GHz's graphics card to a AMD Radeon HD 7770 GHz edition? If its possible that would be great. If any one can answer please do because i need to know.

You maybe able to have Apple techs install one of these GPUs.
    1 or 2 GB GDDR5 (Radeon HD 6970M)
Assuming Apple can still get the GPU, you can have them replace your current GPU, but the costs of the replacement will be out of your pocket.
It will be a few hundred Dollars to have them do the replacement.
AppleCare doesn't cover the costs of  upgrading/replacing existing/original components. Only free replacement and labor of existing hardware.
This is NOT something I recommend a novice or newbie Mac upgrader try as the newer aluminum iMacs are very details oriented and are tedious and finicky to work on and upgrade.
Lots of different fasteners, and small cables that can be damaged if one is not careful.
DIY work on a newer iMac is a task for even seasoned Mac hardware upgraders.
And if you do decide to try this on your own and you, inadvertently, "brick" your iMac, you'll be on your own.
You won't be able to have an Apple store repair what you have done . Apple will not be able to help you and repair the damage that could happen.

  • Upgraded nVidia GeForce 8800GTS Driver--Premiere Runs Slow Now

For four years, I was running the same nVidia driver and Premiere and other apps ran fine.
Recently though, a project I'm working on for a client required me to add some new fonts to my workstations. Adding these fonts, or any fonts at all, would work fine until the next reboot, at which point Windows XP would just BSOD with a fault in win32k.sys. A partition restore was necessary to bring back useful system.
After some research, it was suggested that I update the video driver. I did this, installing the current 285.58 version after uninstalling the old version, rebooting, then doing a clean installation. That solved the font problem--I can install fonts and reboot and the system comes up fine. But there's a new problem: GUI acceleration is disabled in Adobe and Quark applications.. The GUI takes several seconds to paint the screen now, and I cannot play video in Premiere anymore without severe sluggishness and dropping of most of the frames. Even QuarkXpress 8 is unusable, taking 6 seconds to paint just the rulers around a page! Any time I move something, the system refuses to accept input and the mouse pointer freezes and stutters for several seconds until the screen is done repainting.
I haven't seen these sort of problems since 1990, when I had my Diamond Speedstar VGA card on ISA 8-bit bus.
Does anyone know of a fix for this problem, or what is the most recent Adobe approved nVidia 8800 driver version? I can't work like this. But I can't install the fonts my client needs when the old driver is installed because of the BSOD after rebooting.

    Mark,
Though I have personally not had issues with new drivers, I always try to keep a few nVidia drivers tucked away, just in case. However, and from time to time, others have hit upon "bad" drivers, and either a roll-back, or patience, until a new "good" driver is released, has helped them.
I also do not update my nVidia drivers all that often, and usually only when I begin experiencing a problem.
Good luck, and that BSOD is scary. While most BSOD's are hardware related, a system driver certainly CAN cause them too. On my workstation, all that I can recall HAVE been triggered by drivers, and most of those for something like a Maxtor external. I do not use their "one-button backup" function, but the drivers for that do get installed, and sometimes act up. I suppose that was once a good idea, but has bitten me a few times in the past.
Good luck, and wish that I had something that would help you. Please report how things go.

  • System upgrade z77 based machine - new Disks/SSD + new graphics card £1500 budget

Hello all, I've read so many threads I am totaly confused now over how best to upgrade my machine. I'm a photographer moving into DSLR shooting and editing on premier pro. My machine is 2 years old and I think OK to upgrade but many threads and current suggestions are for current latest processors and I want to get a balanced machine. I currently have 4 drive as raid 10 for my programs OS, and a mirrored drive for media files but I obviously need to change most of this. I dont do any after effects(currently) but often use the multi cam editor and 4/5 viceo tracks on a timeline. I've got 32G of ram. I think I need possibly SSD OS/progs, several fast drives and a compliant video card. My PSU is 750w and I have 10 drive bays in a huge case. PLease help!

My personal opinion is that you are stretching it a bit. DSLR footage is pretty difficult to handle and requires some horsepower. Using it with 5 shots in a multicam situation is extremely taxing on the system, especially on the CPU and memory.
If I were to go from scratch, I would go for a 2011 platform with an overclocked i7-3930K CPU and a dedicated raid controller, but you have a Z77 with a quad core. Assuming you don't want to change platforms now, I would suggest:
Overclock your CPU to around 4.5 GHz.
    Use 32 GB 1600+ memory.
Use a GTX 650 Ti Boost or GTX 660 video card. It makes no sense to go higher than that on this platform.
There is no sense in going for a dedicated raid controller on this platform, since it reduces your video card performance by around 10-15%, due to the lack of PCIe lanes and you want that video performance for the multicam processing.
You are between a rock and a hard place. The Z77 platform has severe limitations for what you want to do, but the X79 platform carries quite some costs. I don't envy your position.
Experience is that marvellous thing that enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again.

  • Java3D vs. nVidia GeForce 7300 GS

I have a new computer with a graphic card nVidia GeForce 7300 GS. With this graphic card every Java3D stuff crashes (even the demos).
If I debug the sources it hangs up with
SimpleUniverse.getPreferredConfiguration()There is no difference which Java version I use (1.4, 5.0, 6.0) or what kind of 3d-renderer (opengl, direct-x).
After about 10 minutes the applicatation 'awakes' and everything works ok (even the 3d graphics!!).
Is there something known about this problem?

I have a new computer with a graphic card nVidia GeForce 7300 GS.Do you by any chance have a copy of Symantec Norton Antivirus 2006 installed?
A Laptop running NVidea drivers exhibits the same behavior after an install of NAV2006. The behavior goes away after a while and everything works normally.

  • Upgrading Graphics Card (iMac Late 2012)

I bought the new iMac 21.5" with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M graphics card with 512MB.
Is there any way of adding more memory or exchanging the graphics card?

The NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M is a dedicated graphic card, so you can't add more VRAM to it. Also, the graphic card that the iMac has got is replaceable, but it can only be replaced by another graphic card of the same model. That's because only some graphic cards are compatible with OS X, and if you do this wrong, OS X may stop working or you may damage the logic board, apart from the fact that you will void the warranty. It's too risky and you won't have anything better than now. That graphic card is stable and should work for most of the uses

  • Can I change graphic card ATI radeon 3200 HD to NVIDIA Gforce go series?

AMD turion X2 64 Toshiba Equium 300d-16c graphic card ATI radeon 3200 HD........
Can I change my graphic card into NVIDIA? cause im a gamerz and I want to have a high graphics when im playing.
Can i change my ATI 3200 into NVIDIA geforce go series?
    Please help

Unfortunately graphic card exchange is not possible.
Every notebook has specific hardware platform and each of them is optimized to work properly (BIOS, cooling system and so on).
So this is definitely not possible.

  • NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 vs ATI Radeon HD 4870

i finally get to buy my mac pro and replace my aging g5 ... yay me!
anyone care to comment on the two graphics card choices ???

I would like to point out that nVidia does in fact have information on their main page about the GeForce GT 120. And yes... It is essentially a low power 9500GT. It is almost an identical card except that the Memory Clock has been locked at 500mhz and the Core GPU has been down powered to 500mhz vs 550mhz. Which goes in line with the way apple's GPUs are always slightly slower and optimized. So yes... If you want increased performance I would suggest the 4870. And yes I just looked at the site and it is indeed a 4870 listed as the 200 dollar upgrade. the 4870 is one of the better graphics cards on the market right now for the 250-300 dollar price point. As well as ATI cards seem to have a much nicer color range than nVidia cards.
Having had both recently in my PC system (A 4850 and a 9800GTX+) The ATI was certainly a nicer looking card, just not quite as good performing. Except on Crysis which actually did run better due to ATI cards tending to roll better with games that really push the texture palate as well as Filtering.
Only thing that is unfortunate is that I do not see an option for dual 4870's for Crossfire. At 2500 dollars you would think that would be a nice feature to include!!

  • Nvidia GeForce 9400M makes my MacBook Pro screen blinks

    I am using a Macbook Pro 2.4MHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB 1067MHz DDR3.
That's the one with the Nvidia GeForce 9400M and the Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT.
Using the Nvidia GeForce 9400M, as my default video card, seems to make my screen blinks. That is random.
Apple's Hardware Test show no problems.
When I am using the Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT the screen blinks stops.
I am sure that all started after updating to Mac OS X Snow Leopard. I am currently running Mac OS X 10.6.5.
Is this a software problem or there is a problem with the Nvidia GeForce 9400M chip?
Does any is experiencing the same problem?
+the problem withe the screen blinking is quite old. I am mostly using my Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT as my default video card with no problem at all, but I want to be able to use my Nvidia GeForce 9400M because of the better battery life.
    Any help will be valuable.+
    Tom.

I have the same issue with mine and sadly I missed the date to get Applecare on this machine (they usually call but this time around they didn't).  ***** that I didn't get this resolved before my warranty ran out .. I'm certainly not going to shell out for a replacement motherboard out of pocket.  I now use the 9600 graphics exclusively and can almost watch my battery drop by the minute.
On a side note I'm not very impressed with the quality control Apple has had with their portables in the last few years.  I bought this unit refurbished and it took two units to get one that worked properly, and even then this one never did as it's had this video blinking issue since day one.  The problem is I didn't really notice it until recently when I started using it running more often on battery and decided to use the mobile chipset to save battery time.  This is the third MBP I've had and their 3rd MBP that's had motherboard issues.
When it comes time to replace this one I'm seriously considering going with a macbook air or something else.  Can't justify spending the money on more MBP's with such terrible track records.

I think the new xorg-server is the problem as it isn't supported by this nvidia driver yet.
You could try to install the nouveau driver until nvidia comes with a new version of the 173 branch that supports xorg-server 1.10, see: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Nouveau for information. As lower-grade options, you might also consider xf86-video-nv and xf86-video-vesa.
Should i uninstall nvidia driver, then install it?
I think thats the easy way yes, else you have to blacklist the nvidia kernel module.. check the wiki link of nouveau for details.

  • Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 with The Witcher 3 & Batman Arkham Knight

I just bought the reference card Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 card in store a couple of hours ago and I only received Batman steam code as part of the bundle. I was under the impression that I received a gog.com code for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt as part of the promotion that is going on for the month of March? If Best Buy is only including Batman I'll probably just return it and buy somewhere else.

    Hello Timdb89,
The GeForce GTX 970 is a great graphics card!  It will be really nice to play Batman: Arkham Knight (Amped about its release).
These are two separate promotions.  The Witcher: Wild Hunt promotion ended on 05/02/2015 and the Batman: Arkham Knight started on 05/10/2015.  If you purchased the card yesterday (05/14/2015), then you'd only receive Batman: Arkham Knight.
I’m really hoping that you don't return the item.  We truly do value your purchase.
