Upgrade NWDS to 7.0

Dear Experts,
We are using EP 6.0 and NWDS 2.0.9, Since we have planned to upgrade to EP 7.02, shall we upgrade NWDS to NWDS 7.0? and if we upgrade NWDS, will all my existing webdynpro Projects still be compil-able in the newer version of NWDS.

Hi Rana,
Always remember one rule.
For every new release version of Application server there's a compatible version of developer studio (NWDS).
And as per the best practice, we should always work in the version homogeneity as explained earlier.
So, If you are upgrading you EP server from version 6.0 to version 7.0 EhP2 SP(X) then you need to download the same developer studio version too.
And yes, all your existing projects will still work in the upgraded environment, as it is backward compatible.
You may encounter the obsolete warnings for certain projects, but still it will still work.

I have downloaded the SAR file for upgrade NWDS to SP14, used SAPCAR to extract, and executed IDE70setup.exe. All seems well, except for the fact that I can no longer open the data modeler view in my Web Dynpro perspective.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any thoughts?

I have downloaded NWDS 7.1 from sap downloads and installed it in my personal computer. Now to work with it I need to upgrade it. My problem is I dont have S user ID. Is there any other way that i can upgrade my software?

Dear Pavani,
You can register for your own s user id. The process is pretty simple. Just note the installation number of your dev server / licensed ECC server using SAP GUI. Just go to System -> Status. Note down the installation number. Now register at service.sap.com. Now you can go ahead and update NWDS from the central server.

Upgrading NWDS 7.0.11 to newer 7.0 version

I was looking to update my SAP Netweaver Developer Studio version 7.0.11 to the latest 7.0 release
My doc says I can use the following:
Help > Software Updates > New Updates.
However when I click on the Help menu item I don't see a "Software Updates" menu item there.

How to upgrade NWDS

Hi all,
I have Netweaver Developer Studio version 2.0.9 when I am working with Webdynpro applications developed using NWDS version 2.0.13 I get errors while running application.
I tried using NWDS version 2.0.15 too but it also has its own set of errors. I would like to update NWDS to version 2.0.13 where can I download those files?

Go to

SAP Software Distribution Center-> Download-> Support Packages and Patches->Search for Support Packages and Patches.
In the Search box, type 'Netweaver 13'. U will get the SAR file for updating.

NW Upgrade best practice

Hi
We will be upgrading our WAS 6.40 (and EP6) patch level from 17 to 21 and I want some advice as to which stage in the process would be ideal to upgrade NWDS from 17 to 21.
By which stage, I would mean, at the end of the production upgrade, or when developemnt and test have been upgraded or at what ever time that is best. There will be code freeze in terms of enhancements but we may need to work on some emergency break-fixes, if any.
Also, will there be any issue if we were to develop Java webdynpro using an older SP (17) and migrate them through newer development and test env (21) to go to production (17)?
Appreciate if anybody can share from experience or provide some links to useful materials.

Your NWDS must be on the same patch level as your target system you are developing in. If you freeze development for the upgrade in a sane way then you need to be able to perform maintenance to production so will need the same patch level as production. However you also need to perform and fixes to modification in the patched systems.
What I am saying is you likely need both versions to be safe and can in fact run both versions on the same PC.
Don't forget to import the latest BUILT/JEE/JTECHS SCA's into the tracks that have been patched and move them along the track with the patching you perform.
SAP strongly recommends the NWDS be on the same SP level as the target system and also your tracks have the same SCA Archive versions. Otherwise your CBS can happily build without error but your deploy could at worst cause a system restore and being shouted at by basis. Basically developing 21 - 21 - 17 is not safe but rolling changes through 21 -21 - 21 as you are patching is fine
Course ADM225 teaches some of this and some is spread in notes and online help. Its a bit of an all round question and not all stuck in one place I'm afraid.

Error in creating new EJB Project in NWDS of CE 7.1

Hi,
I am trying to create one EJB application in NWDS of CE 7.1. I am getting error that some jar file is missing. I did upgrade NWDS couple of times to check weather I can get new files but still same problem. My error is:
Project 'test' is missing required library: 'C:\<path>\SDNIDECE7110PREVIEW\IDE\eclipse\plugins\com.sap.engine.webservice.framework_2.0.0.080123091953.jar\DesigntimeAPIs\tcesiespwsrmfacade~api.jar'

It might some plug-in are corrupted or missing.
Check the following thread for help

further you can change the plug-in set under C:\Program Files\SAP\IDE\CE\eclipse\plugins taking from any working NWDS.

NWDS pop up "Please wait... completing the install

Hello,
I've upgraded NWDS and now whenever I open it I get the eclipse screen saying "Please wait... completing the install" as if the installation hasn't completed although it has.
I tried reinstalling NWDS but it didn't help, I don't want to completely remove it from my PC and do new clean install. Any ideas...?

NWDS SP09 TO SP11 Problem

Hi,
   We created some webdynpro applications using NWDS SP09. They were working fine. Last week we upgraded NWDS to SP11 (Both NWDS and J2EE engine are on SP11). Now, the same applications are giving errors in the generated code.
   The most predominant error is the following:
The method createMappedAttribute(String, String) in the type GCIContext is not applicable for the arguments (String, String, boolean)
This happens in the generated code, I cannot change it.
Any thoughts on this one.

            I rebuild the project and also tried "Repair - Project structure and classpath".
            But still got the following errors:

PS : One observation : If we do a DC build then it builds fine, but if we do a project build for the same DC it gives the above error.

Cannot resolve GPSearchRole

Local portal SP14. Doing web dynpro development using development component. Have added used DCs caf/eu/gp/api/wd & caf/eu/gp/api (external). But am unable to resolve GPSearchRole. I have been unable to find any jar file that contains this class.

Thanks for the response George, but that is not really my question. I know how to use the class and I know the package it is in. I just cannot find it to include in NWDS.
I think my problem is that I need to upgrade NWDS. I forgot that my local portal is SP14, but my NWDS is SP9. I found the jar file containing the class in my local portal, it just isn't in my NWDS.

I had no problem with the Upgrade after I downloaded the Package from http://service.sap.com/swdc/ -> Support Packages and Patches -> SAP NetWeaver -> SAP NETWEAVER -> SAP NETWEAVER 04 -> Entry by Component -> SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio.
You should also follow the "Support Package Stack Guide - SAP NetWeaver 04 SP Stack 12" avaliable at http://service.sap.com/instguides -> SAP NetWeaver -> Release 04 -> Operations.

Now I want to update to the new version 2.0.20.
I downloaded the update version and copied it into a CD.
Now I want to update my NWDS from this CD.

Jdi/nwds upgrade

HI,
I am planning for an upgrade of jdi from sp12 to sp13. does that mean that to deploy the new .sca files on top of the existing one. or should i remove the JDI sp12 and isntall sp13.
same with case of NWDS.. i have nwds sp12 with many projects. if i upgrade my nwds to sp13.. are my projects gonna be there or not.. is there any way that i can take a backup of the projects that i developed and run the upgrade..
could you please help me in this regard..sorry if the questions are silly...

The answers to 2nd and 3rd questions is yes if you uninstall and install the NWDS.
Project settings are not disturbed. Also the as to your 2nd question i believe the settin gs made in windows-> preferences are stored somewhere in the .metadata folder under the workspace. Hence those may also not go.
SAP is delivering the upgrades also. When you start the installation of NWDS if the installation detects another version of NWDS already installed it will ask if you want to upgrade/repair.
Please verify this. Start new NDS installation and then just check whether you are getting this poup for upgrade.

Upgrade Custom NWDS B2B project

I have created a custom B2B project in NWDS (we are not using NWDI!).
The question came up. When we upgrade or deploy a new b2b patch how can we upgrade the custom project (without replacing the jsps manually)?

May be you can use all the time and resources you saved by not implementing the NWDI for comparing the differences in every JSP
Just kidding.
- Install the standard new code in a different root node, and use a File Compare or Directory Compare software like Beyond Compare to compare the new patch / version with the latest custom version. Many compare software has merge feature too . Beyond Compare has a very nice 3 way merge.
- Another way could be to use a nice version control software. After checking in the last known custom version, load the patch or new version in your client (laptop) then do a compare of each file. Some version controls actually give you a report on the differences - very similar to Beyond Compare but with in version control.
But, think of this. If you have even a medium size development group, source code control will be a nightmare without a proper version control. So you need a new software, license, resource to maintain them. You need someone to take care of the change control (all the builds and deploys). To make sure that the patch files are in the developer's machine, the system landscape etc. To make sure of whether the system that is being deployed has the right version of the jar or not. And more...
Hindsight, all the trouble for what? Don't we all know that NWDI has all these features built-in?
