We just upgraded to v3.1 and the security I put in place in v3.0 did not carry over for the folders. Our company wanted to secure the folders per SAP security role, so I did that by breaking the inheritence relationship from the Root Folder on child folders that they should not have access to (see SAP note#1281763 for explaination on this type of procedure). It worked fine in v3.0, but after the upgrade, all of those changes had disappeared and every SAP role was able to see every folder. This was a major effort to secure those folders and I do not want to do it again. Also, we did import the roles into the upgrade BO v3.1 before we imported the BO structure, which as told to us by SAP, would work and not cause this issue.

Hi Amogh.
We have the same issue.
Whe are in the middle of the ABAP unicode enabling and we haven't found a solution for some customer Business Objects - e.g. Z_BUS2017. They are OK (UCCHECK transaction) but they haven't the Unicode flag. The standard Object BUS2017, program MM07MMOB have the Unicode flag activeted (view TRDIR-UCCHECK).
If you have got a solution please, advice us.

Upgrading From Business Objects XI2 to XI3.0

I can't seem to find the BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.0 Upgrade Guide. Does anyone know where I can find it?

The upgrade guide is not directly on the product guides. You have to follow the link to the SAP service marketplace.
Within the guide there are 3 options
1) Install directly on top, only available for simple (single node) installations
2) Install new and update CMS DB
3) Install new and copy over objects.

Upgrading Business Objects Planning & Reporting 11.10.1325.0

We need to upgrade our Business Objects Planning from our current version 11.10 to 11.5x due to the Microsoft Office Service pack 3. Does anybody have any documentation or information regarding things to look out for, upgrade procedures, etc.
On another note, we currently running Planning 11.10 on a Sql server 2000 sp4 back-end. Does anybody know if it's ok to simply upgrade this to Sql Server 2005 with out any changes? Any documentation, notes, etc are greatly appreciated also. Thanks!

Business Object's Hot Patches

Hi,
We are currently using Business Object XI Release 2, hot patch 2, we would like to upgrade to the latest hot patch.
Our question is, if we take the latest Hot Patch would it include all the previous Hot Patches? Or, do we have to upgrade one patch at time?

First of all, thank you for your reply, back in November 2008.
We are about to start the upgrading of Business Objects Release 2 with hot patch 2, we have not installed any service pack yet.
Our questions are: can service pack 2 be installed on top of hot patch 2? Or, do we have to roll back hot patch 2 first, and then install service pack 2?

Business objects XI v3 under Unix (AIX or Linux) a bad idea?

Hello everybody,
We are planning to upgrade to Business Objects V3 with web-clients and the platform is not yet determined.
However, from a press release I understood that Linux support for Business Objects is relatively new (august 2005).
It has been suggested that Business Object support for Unix in general is not as good as Windows support.
I'm very interested to learn from your experience ....

Just want to add to the original question that:
the directory (in the error stack from tomcat)
/apps/truecomp/BOXI31/bobje/tomcat/work/Catalina/localhost is NOT even existing on the
AIX server which installed BO XI 3.1 SP2.
Would really appreciate any comments on this problem, especially from SAP support team.
We are really stuck here.

Business Objects XI 3.1 Administrator rights

Could someone tell me or point in the right direction for determining if any, or which Business Objects desktop application may require the user to be part of the sytem administrator group? Currently running BO 6.5 Supervisor and Recipient Manager modules, among others but we will soon be upgrading to Business Objects XI 3.1 - I know we need administrator rights to install so I'm onl asking about running the applications - thanks

Hi Darlynn,
administrator rights (on OS side) are not required in order to run most BOBJ dekstop applications (e.g Universe Designer, rich WebI client, DeskI client). Still you have to take care eventually of firewall issues if you have a firewall between your server and your clients.
Please make also sure that the users have write access to the temp directories used by the tools e.g. Universe designer.
You may have some issues with the Import Wizard though since it requires write access to it's installation directory (this is where its temp directory resides). That was at least the case in XI R2.
The Import Wizard is not every user's tool though.

Business Objects logon error

I am trying to setup a development server to test an upgrade to Business Objects 11.10.1336.0 to 11.6 using a copy of our production database.
I am getting the following error when I login.

WebElements 2.46 with business Objects XI3.1 SP4?

Hi Guys,
We recently upgraded our Business Objects XI 3.1 SP2 FP2.8 to Business Objects XI 3.1 SP4. When we try to view WebElements Report via CR2008 or via Infoview it basically shows just the HTML code behind that report. We followed the WebElements 2.46 guide to configure the BusinessObjects Enterprise server to allow pass-through HTML but it's still the same.
Just wondering if anyone out there is running WebElements on Business Objects XI 3.1 SP4? Or if anyone has a similar issue?
Any help is appreciated.

hi Adrian,
there were some issues with webelements in the latest service pack of xi 3. this was due to changes in the xi 3 dhtml viewer.
if you've got a test bed with the latest version up still, please try the latest version of webelements [here|Crystal Reports webElements]. that version is .247 and has been tested on xi 3 (latest service pack) and bi 4.0.
the 246 version will not work on bi 4.0. we have no customer feedback for webelements on bi 4.0 as this will be the first release for 4.0. there were recent changes in a fix pack of bi 4.0 which delayed the release of webelements by quite a bit...sorry for that.
there are also a couple of new functions in 247 too.

Business Objects Explorer

I installed the Business Objects explorer, I'm trying to make the settings required to use this feature but I can not.
The procedure was realized the following:
I downloaded the file in service.sap.com / swdc 'SAP BusinessObjects XI 3.1 SP1 WINDOWS EXPLORER ".
On installation I selected all servers ...
Web Application Server components for Apache Tomcat used by BusinessObjects Enterprise automatically.
At the end of the installation checked if the servers were running.
I don't have BW, I will work with the universe.
what configuration should I do to view the service?
how should I proceed?

Business Objects / BODS Upgrade

Hi Guys.
We have an end to end Business Objects solution implemented in our environment consisting of BODS (XIR3), Business Objects (XIR3) and Crystal Reports (2008). We are planning to upgrade the BODS and Business Objects environments to the latest version but would first like just the BODS to be upgrade as the support for the application has now been ceased by SAP. I believe for the same we would require to use IPS as BOE will still be at the old version and in the latest version BOE and BODS have been integrated.
Please can you suggest any documentation which we can refer for such scenarios and will we be facing any problems once we upgrade BOE in future in integrating it with BODS as that will be dependent on IPS. Any information on the Pros and Cons on using this methodology will be very helpful.
Please let me know if in case any further details are required. Thanks in anticipation of your help.

since there is no really an upgrade package from XI R2 to XI 3.x you have to do a new XI 3.x installaiton and copy afterwards your repository contents from the old to the new system. THis means that the old system is always available for your users. The migration process is officially supported and SAP should provide support for any related issues.
I would recommend to start on both sides with the most actual Service pack and fix pack version. For XI R2 this should be SP6 with FP 6.1 (note: you should have at least SP4 on XI R2 in order to do the migration) and for XI 3.1 this should be SP 2 with FP 2.6.

Upgrading from Crystal Enterprise 10 to Business Objects Enterprise 11

Here's the situation:
We decided to upgrade from Crystal Enterprise 10 on server A to Business Objects Enterprise 11 on server B. We went with the method of importing all the objects and users from Crystal Enterprise 10 to Business Objects Enterprise 11. The import also brought in all the DB connection settings that were set in Crystal Enterprise 10. I also brought over all the ODBC System DSNs so that those can be consisten with the old server.
The problem we are having is that the reports are failing due to the connections to the database. I thought importing the database connection settings from Crystal Enterprise 10 along with bringing over the ODBC System DSNs would not make this an issue but it hasn't.
I checked the server logs in SQL and it's telling me that it's trying to log into the server as NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON. Shouldn't it try to log under whatever I define in the report's database settings or ODBC System DSNs?
These same reports work fine in Crystal Reports and Crystal Enterprise 10.

go into the properties of the report and verify that the Database Login values are still set. I found that it doesn't always transfer those when doing the import.

Upgrading from Crystal Enterprise 10 to Business Objects XI R3

you will need access to the CMS DB and FRS from CE10 in order to migrate to XI 3.x, typically this is accomplished via network. If you can restore them to the same computer a side by side (install CE10 and XI 3.x on the same server) may work as well.

Upgrade from Oracle 9i to Oracle 10g - Impact on Business Objects XI 3.0

We are currently using Oracle 9i with Business Object XI 3.0 and we going to upgrade the database from Oracle 9i to Oracle 10g. We have Universe Created in Oracle 9i and we have reports created in the same universe. Will there be any impact to these reports when upgraded to Oracle 10g? We are using Oracle Client to Connect to the Database.

Business Objects Planning Database Upgrade

I have attempting to upgrade Business Objects Planning from version 11.2 to 11.6. The upgrade appears to run successfully, however, when I attempt to start the Planning Application Services, the service fails to start up, stating the current DB version is less than the working version. I have spoken to our consultant, who stated he knew nothing of any changes that must be made to the database. The first portion of the error log is copied below. I have tried an incremental step of upgrading from 11.2 to 11.5 and have received the same error. What must I do to configure the database either before or after the upgrade?
Application is set up as single server.
OS is windows server 2003
Database is Oracle 10.2.0.4.
Database user is SRCAdmin, and is an owner of the db.

you can also look into 3rd party tools such as rpt inspector which may be able to do this.
