Upgrade of Mac OS X version 10.5.4

How do I upgrade OS X Version 10.5 to a supported version (10.7 or higher) so that i can download I tunes?
how do I get latest version of Safari

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and check the processor.
If it's a PowerPC Mac, it can't be upgraded past 10.5.8.
If it's a Core Duo Mac, click here, install the DVD, and run Software Update. It can't be upgraded past 10.6.8.
If it's a Core 2 Duo or better Mac, upgrade it as if it was a Core Duo Mac, and once done, if desired, open the Mac App Store and try downloading Yosemite. If you get told it's incompatible, go to the online Apple Store and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC software such as Microsoft Office 2004. If you upgrade the OS, back up the computer first; getting the newest Safari version requires upgrading to Yosemite.

How do I upgrade from Mac OS X version 10.6.8 to version 10.7.4?

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, click on More Info, and check the model identifier against the following, which are the earliest Macs of each type that can run Mountain Lion:
    iMac7,1
    MacBook5,1
    MacBookPro3,1
    MacBookAir2,1
    Macmini3,1
    MacPro3,1
    Xserve3,1
If your system's compatible, buy it from the Mac App Store. A computer incapable of running Mountain Lion which has a Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) or better CPU and at least 2GB of RAM can run Lion 10.7, which is available by phoning the online Apple Store and ordering a download code for it.

  • HT1338 how do i upgrade my Mac OS X version 10.5.8

how do i upgrade my Mac OS X version 10.5.8?

If your Macbook has an Intel processor, you can first upgrade to 10.6 (Snow Leopard).
You need to purchase that from the Apple retail Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
If you are not in the US, use the flag button at the bottom of the page to change to your country's store.
Depending on they type of Intel macbook it is, you may be able to upgrade further to Lion or Mountain Lion.
Open About this Mac from the Apple menu.
    Then, click on More Info.
Select the Hardware heading and llok at the Model Identifier.
I can't remember if it was called that or if that OS had a hardware section, but you are looking for something like macbook5,1
If that first number is less than a 5, you can't go any further than Lion. Unless there is something in Lion you need, I would stick with Snow Leopard.
If the first number is a 5 or greater, you can upgrade to Mountain Lion. Once you have installed 10.6 and updated it to 10.6.8, you can purchase and install Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store (which is available in the Apple menu of OS X 10.6.8 or later).
However, if you want to go beyond Snow Leopard, make sure you purchase enough RAM to have at least 4GB. Any less than that would not be pleasant.
Additionally, Mavericks, 10.9, is due to be released this fall. You may want to wait until then and just upgrade to that instead of Mountain Lion (10.8).  Either way, you will need to purchase and install 10.6 from DVD. You need to keep that disk if you ever need to reinstall the OS.

How do i go about upgrading to a higher version?

Upgrading to Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
You can purchase Snow Leopard by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will receive physical media - DVD - by mail.
Third-party sources for Snow Leopard are:
    Snow Leopard from Amazon.com
    Snow Leopard from eBay
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download.

  • How do I upgrade to mac OS X version 10.7?

I have Macbook Pro OS X version 10.6.8.  How do I upgrade to 10.7 so I can use the Quick Books for Mac software I just bought?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
First, check if your Mac is compatible with OS X Mountain Lion > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs
If it's compatible with OS X Mountain Lion, open App Store and purchase OS X Mountain Lion. While Mountain Lion is downloading, make a backup of your data with Time Machine and/or Carbon Copy Cloner so, if the upgrade fails, you won't lose any file. When the download finishes, the Mountain Lion installer will show up, so follow the steps to upgrade to Mountain Lion.
Also, check if your apps are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com

Since I upgraded to Mac OS X version 10.9.5 I can no longer scan using my HP e - all in one B111 printer.  Is there a patch to fix the problem?

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @lilypants ,
I understand you have upgraded to Mavericks and are no longer able to scan, using your Photosmart 5510. I have some suggestions for you below, that might help.
Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system
    Repair disk permissions
    Restart the Mac
Install the Full Feature driver: HP Photosmart 5510 e-All-in-One Printer Full Feature Software and Drivers
In addition, download this driver: HP Printer Drivers v3.0 for OS X
Now try scanning and it should work
    Good luck!

  • I just upgraded my mac book to 10.6.8 and downloaded the new version of itunes. When I try to open it and error message appears saying, "The iTunes Library file cannot be found or created. The default location for this file is in the "iTunes" folder.

I just upgraded my mac book to 10.6.8 and downloaded the new version of itunes. When I try to open it and error message appears saying, "The iTunes Library file cannot be found or created. The default location for this file is in the "iTunes" folder in the "Music" folder."
I have tried a few things but iTunes closes right after i click okay. Anyone know anything?

Look in your Home > Music folder.  There should be an iTunes folder there and it should have a number of files and folders including one called library.itl  You want to guide iTunes to that file.  If you don't see that file or folder then in your next post you will have to be very specific as to what you do see or how you have your iTunes set up because that's where it should be according to default settings.

  • Problems with Mail after upgrading to MAC OS10 version 10.6.8

I upgraded to MAC OS10 version 10.6.8 about ten days ago, and have since had lots of problems with mail. Since I upgraded, I have downloaded several software updates, including one for improving the general softeware system of Leopard.  Since this morning, I no longer have the Mail icon in the dock and when I try to open it in Applications a window comes up saying:
'You can't use this version of Mail with this version of Mac OS X.  You have Mail version 4.5 (1084/1085). It can't be used on Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 (Build 10K549)
Can I download a version that I can use with this Mac, and can anybody give me the site where I can find this. I have tried without success

You should consider downloading the 10.6.8 combo updater and applying it again.

  • I can't uninstall Firefox version 11 from my MAC, nor can I upgrade to a more recent version of Firefox.

I believe that I have a corrupted version of Firefox. I have followed the procedures both for removal and for upgrade that are posted in the support forums, and neither are effective for me.
I do not have a conventional Firefox icon on my screen, rather I have a grey question mark. When I attempt to deposit that question mark icon in my wastebasket, it just bounces back out.
When I have tried to upgrade to a more recent version of Firefox (and I've been trying to upgrade with each new iteration of Firefox from version 12 to the current version 32), I receive an error message that I can run only one version of Firefox, and the upgraded version is rejected in favor of version 11.
Additionally, Firefox version 11 blocks me from adding any other programs onto my Mac. I want to get rid of version 11. How can I do it?

Dear ideato--Thank you for your suggestion. While I was able to drag a shadow of the Firefox icon from the applications folder to the dock and drop it into the wastebasket, the icon remains in the applications folder and Firefox version 11 is still on my computer blocking every attempt to add a program or to upgrade to the current version of Firefox. The question mark is still on the dock, too. Regards--DavidK126
