Upgrade options from Mac OS X 10.5.8 ??

I have a MacBook Pro from 2009 with Mac OS X 10.5.8. What are my options to update/upgrade the OS X??

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You have a 2009 MacBook Pro, so you can upgrade to Mac OS X Snow Leopard, OS X Lion and OS X Mountain Lion. First of all, in order to upgrade to Mountain Lion, you have to upgrade to Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard Make a backup before upgrading. Then, insert the DVD, open the installer and follow the steps to upgrade to Snow Leopard.
After upgrading, open  > Software Update and install the most recent version. After that, open the App Store and purchase OS X Mountain Lion. While it's being downloaded, check that your apps are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com
When the download finishes, follow the steps of the installer. After upgrading, you will have 10.8.3

There are two discs on ebay for 10.4.2 on ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Apple-Mac-OS-X-10-2-Installation-Discs-Jaguar-/2006580 32151?pt=UK_Computing_Software_Software_SR&hash=item2eb8269617#ht_466wt_64

Hi Aaron, should work if it meets these requirements...
    System requirements
Supported Computers:[2]PowerMac G3, G4, early PowerMac G5, iMac, eMac, PowerBook G3 orG4, or iBook computer
Amount of RAM Required: 128 megabytes (MB) (Although 256 MB to 512 MB is highly recommended by many people who have used Mac OS X v10.2.8 as the real amount of RAM used when only the Operating System is running is around 200 MB, but it can be run with as low as 96 MB) although it will not run at full speed.
Processor Type: PowerPC G3, G4 or G5 running at 233 MHz or higher.

  • Which upgrade option from Panther to Tiger?

Okay, tomorrow is the big day; I'm going to upgrade from Panther 10.3.9 to Tiger 10.4.3. I recently had some issues with my iBook, but they were resolved and turned out to be hardware related. As part of my troubleshooting for that, though, I did an erase and install of Panther, so my OS is pretty "new", in terms of how long it's been on the drive.
I've checked on a firmware update for my external drive (used for backup), I've backed up my main drive and run MacJanitor, I'll be repairing the disk and permissions from the Panther installation disk tomorrow before doing the upgrade (and again afterwards). Oh, and I'll be disconnecting all peripherals before starting the process.
My question is, should I do an Archive and Install, or would just the Upgrade option be safe for me? Any opinions?
    Thanks for any replies.

My personal choice is the simple upgrade option. That preserves all of your custom settings and keeps everything in place. The A&I option is second best because some stuff moved to the Previous System folder has to be manually moved back. A disconcerting manual process. The E&I option requires reinstalling all 3rd-party items and resetting all of your preferences.

  • Upgrade Options from 10.4.11?

I am looking to upgrade my MBP which currently has OS X 10.4.11 to Leopard or Snow Leopard.
What are my options: Do I need to install 10.5 and then 10.6 or I can directly install 10.6?
    Thanks in Advance.

All MacBook Pros have an Intel processor. As long as the machine is labeled MacBook Pro beneath the display, has at least 1 GB of RAM in Apple menu -> About This Mac, (512 MB of RAM is less than 1 GB), it is capable of running Snow Leopard.
Powerbooks on the other hand do not have an intel processor.
The $29.95 option is also available for those who purchase Leopard retail. Calling the Apple Store may reveal that they have it available, even though it is not visible online. Other used or refurbished Mac stores may have it available too*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/usedrefurbished.html
Just make sure the disk you get looks like * , does not say Upgrade, DropIn, or OEM. The installation from the $29.95 may safely then take place without violating license agreement, if you have checked your machine for other upgrade needs*:

  • Graphics card upgrade options for Mac Pro (early 2008) Model 3.1

    Hi,
What are my options if I wish to upgrade the stock graphics card? I seem to remember there being one that was about £80 but I can no longer check as the site is only listing the 2009 mac pros now.
Any assistance would be gratefully received!

    Your current options are:
    ATI 2600
    Nvidia 8800
    Nvidia 5600
    Or third-party ATI 3870 Mac/PC Edition.
Presumably the new ATI 4870 will work in the Early 2008 MP, but requires OS X 10.5.7 which is not yet released. You can find benchmarks at Bare Feats.

  • Upgrade options from Premiere Pro 2.0

I have PP 2.0 on my xp system.
I would like to upgrade to a newer version with better HD support that will be running on a laptop with Win 7 (64 bit).
I just use this for personal work - no commercial, student, or teacher work.
I have loooked all over and can only see the CC (cloud). I just want to pay as little as possible once to get a new version of Premiere only.
What are my options, if any?
    tnx,

If you don't want to spend about $800 for Premiere Pro CS6, take a look at Premiere Elements 12 for under $100

  • Is there an upgrade option from FCP 7 Suite?

Is there an upgrade price for FCP X, Motion and Compressor?  I just spent almost $1000 on the Suite a couple months ago.

There is no upgrading from FCS to FCP X. This is a completely new application. If you install it will bundle the FCS apps into a folder and install separately. Also, you cannot open FCS/FCP projects in FCP X. Prices are as stated in the appstore.

  • Any upgrade option from 4 core MacPro to 8 core MacPro?

i.e. can I do the processor swap or does Apple offer a processor upgrade?
I'm extremely capable with working on computer hardware, but I'd like to go the "official" route to processor upgrade if such a route exists.
    Thanks, Rob.

People have been putting two quad core CPUs into Mac Pros that came with two dual core CPUs for months ...

    http://www.anandtech.com/mac/showdoc.aspx?i=2832&p=6
One major difference between the "official" and the "hacked" 8 core Mac Pros is the processor clock speed. The Xeon 5355s that people were using to create the "hacked" versions were only clocking at 2.66 GHz. The "official" 8 cores are 3 GHz.
You can get the processors you would need to upgrade your Mac Pro pretty easily...

Of course, this would void your warranty and whatnot.

  • Is Lightroom Creative Cloud (CC) the only upgrade option from LR 5.7?

I currently have LR 5.7.  When I start LR a dialog box is displayed indicating that there is an upgrade available.  When I click the upgrade button it takes me to an LR Creative Cloud web page.  Am I to believe that if I want to upgrade, I have to subscribe to creative cloud?
    I really hope not!

Thank you for your response JimHess,
Please allow me to explain how I got to this spot:
I have always done that method in the past as you described. But for some reason for me to receive this update of Lr5 to Lr6 (which now I see technically speaking is termed 'upgrade'), I was being directed to the page as the original poster of this thread indicated. I followed the directions by signing out then back in and had to Install Lr on to my computer. Confusing for me because I thought I could just update / upgrade from a current Catalog I have created and then follow suit as you instructed.
Now I found the Catalog I originally updated and continued on again "File->Open Recent and choose your other catalogs" and it is working. Thank you. I now see my error by not opening the other Cats from the one that was 'upgraded'.
Now, before I complete my other Cats with the upgrade I went to investigate the folder structure of the upgraded Cat and I see the title of my 'Cat' followed by '-2lrcat.lock' and the '-2lrcat.journal' so I have double of the files with the appended '-2' as the new to be used. Is this correct? If so what can I do with the original, can I delete?
I am also seeing Adobe Lightroom CC 2015 no longer the LR version. Why?
Finally, when I go to right click the Lr icon in my doc to select the Cat I wish to work from I am seeing more than I need to choose from and they are doubles. What can I do to clean this? Is it clearing the list and then going into the program from Explorer to select the newly created '-2lrcat.lock' and opening from there to start a new list for the icon in my doc?
    Thank you advance.

  • Upgrade Failure from Mac 7.9 (746) There isn't enough disk space to install Skype

Attempting to update Skype 7.9 (746) on my Mac is throwing a "there isn't enough disk spaceto install Skype" message. Any suggestions?

It means your Mac's hard disk is filled nearly to capacity.

  • Upgrade from Mac OS X 10.6.8 to OS X Lion

Is it possible to upgrade directly from Mac OS X 10.6.8 to OS X Lion ?

Some of your 10.6.8 software may not work yet.
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Printer, scanner drivers etc also may not work.
You really need 4GB of RAM for Lion is what I hear.
Also it's best to backup, erase and fresh install 10.6, then upgrade. Unless you have a really clean system to begin with.
Lion is slightly slower than Snow Leopard, and may not operate as well on older hardware.
If you backup or clone 10.6, then you can c boot off the 10.6 disk and erase 10.7 drive (completely) and revert
Or better hold option boot off the clone drive and erase and reverse clone. Easy pleasy.

  • Flash builder 4.7 upgrade issue from Flash builder 4.5 (key is not valid)

    Hi,
We (Company) are buying Adobe products more than 6-7 years now. We bought the Flash builder premium 4.5 and Flash builder premium 4.5 for PHP volume licence. Now flash builder 4.7 should be complementary upgrade for us. But when we are using Flash builder 4.7 trial version and adding serial number (Flash builder 4.5 serial number), it's just not working and showing a error "key is not valid".
I chat with Adobe customer care 4 different people, they end up saying that let us transfer you to volume licence department and then chat ended. No more chat messages, I checked more than one hour and still no message.
Then I called they, it took 15 mins to connect with customer care. I picked the "upgrade" option from phone menu and then connected with a guy. After listening complete case he forwarded my call to Volume licence executive and the volume licence executive transferred it to some other guy and the other guy redirect it to some specialized person. So total 4 guys. The last guy (specialized) name was Rohit.
This guy Rohit asked me, did I buy a customer support programme (some product about $2.nn.00 )? I said no, we bought volume licenses for Flash builder premium 4.5 ( about $4000.00 ****). He said, sorry sir I can not help you in this, but I can provide you an e-mail address and you can report your concern there. I already passed my 1.5 hour in this conversation. I said okie. He gave me a case number and told me that he will send a email mentioning that email address as per my request I disconnect the phone.
I never get that email address.
Can some one suggest me what to do next. My case number is : 209-788-274.
    My email is: [email protected]
    Thanks,
    Amitabh Arya

I have the same problem, and i have send request complementary upgrade (Adobe® Flash® Builder® 4.7 Complimentary Upgrade), and only received a Acrobat change licensed...
I´m working with 4.7 Beta the last mounths, and now all the days have to see "please enter your license". So one problem that you can jump with money (if you have that money..), isn´t a problem. Like a i have license from flex 3, upgrade to flex 4, and upgrade to flex 4.5, i´m going to take de upgrade from 4 standard to 4.7 standard (47,97 euros), and not waste my time and money on calls. So yes, I'll see adobe with another eyes...

  • Will the ATT transfer upgrade option be on Apple 6 order page?

The ATT site offers multiline accounts the ability to transfer an upgrade option from one of your lines/divices to another.  This allows for an upgrade to a line/device that is currently not eligible ... My question is, when the Apple iPhone 6/plus go on sale at midnight tonight, will Apple have this ATT option/link available for ATT customers to make the line upgrade transfer option?  Thanks

I suspect you will need to go directly through AT&T for that.
