Upgrade or buy?

I have adobe master collection cs5.5 student edition. Can I upgrade to cs6 or do I have to buy another full student edition.

There are no upgrades for edu versions. As long as you are eligible you simply buy a completely new license at the discounted price.

  • Bought iPhone in March 2010 - possible to upgrade or buy the new iphone 4?

Can it be possible to upgrade or buy the iPhone 4 without canceling my A&TT plan? I got the iPhone 3GS and the unlimited plan in March 2010.

From what i understand, Jobs stated at the WWDC that ANYONE under an expiring 2010 contract (expiring within 6 months of iPhone 4 release), At&t is allowing us to upgrade to the iPhone 4. Here's the exact quote and the link to the press article --
"AT&T is going to make an incredibly generous upgrade offer. If your contract expires at any time in 2010, you can upgrade to the iPhone 4. You can get it up to six months early," Jobs added.

  • Ho do I upgrade or buy a song using Itunes Plus?

How do I upgrade or buy a song using I-Tunes Plus?

All songs in the iTunes Store are iTunes Plus now, so anything you purchase will by default be in that format. As to existing tracks, if there are any eligible to be upgraded, they should appear when you click the "iTunes Plus" link under the Quick Links on the main iTunes Store page.

  • Can't upgrade or buy apps on itouch (invalid security code???)

Okay, so this has happened to me before, but it ususally meant that i didn't have any money on my account or i put my billing info in wrong. That isn't the case now. I have over 50 dollars in my account and have trippled checked all my billing info. I know I put the right security code in because I've been using the same card for the past 9 months. I can't upgrade any of my apps, buy the free ones, or buy music. I have no clue why it isn't working, and it's really starting to bug me. Any suggestions?
P.S. it also says there is a problem with my last purchase. At the time i guess i didn't have any money in my account, but I do now, so shouldn't it be working?????? Help

  • Tune up and upgrade or buy new?

I have a iBook G4. It is starting to show wear and age. It needs a new battery (doesn't hold any charge)and a new power cord (fraying at the barrel). I have very little memory left and it runs very slow at times.
I was thinking of buying a new battery, power cord, and upgrading the RAM (current 512MB) and then possibly buying an external hard drive. Would this be a wise investment? Or should I retire this and look into investing into a new computer?

    running my Ibook cooler
after owning my Ibook for more than one year, I finally figured out how to keep it cool and not overheating, which it would make the screen flicker and go blank, first of all I removed the bottom cover and drilled many holes in patterns including on the metal shield, this made a big improvement, I can feel the heat coming from the holes, but still not good enough, because I wanted to play /record Quick time movies and the system would heat quickly within 20 minutes and using a fan underneath,
I did some search and found G4fan control, http://www.andreafabrizi.it/?g4fancontrol:download
installed it and, I reset the defaults temp @ 130 and no more trouble as the matter of fact I have been recording audio with it while the temperature in the room was near 90 and the the graphic chip sensor never reached above 125 I have been recording for 3 days straight, how about that.
I also installed an Audio recording Jack so that I can transfer my audio cassettes.
    Thanks for reading

  • G4 400: Upgrade or Buy New?

    Hi Everyone,
This is my first post after lurking in the shadows for a while. As you can probably guess I have a G4 400 that I've owned from new. It's getting slow(er) and I'm thinking of upgrading/buying new. I fancy a new Intel iMac but my budget can't stretch to it. Also the lack of CS in Universal is a MAJOR factor. I mainly use the Mac for general browsing etc and CS for Photoshop and graphic design. It's not a work machine so speed is not so important.
I was thinking of buying a G4 Macmini as a stop gap until I can afford the Intel iMac. Would this be better than upgrading the G4 400? See below.
On the upgrade path I was looking at: More RAM, CPU upgrade to 1.4MHz, bigger harddrive (I already have a 2nd 40GB drive).
What graphics card can I upgrade to? I'd like to be able to run a 2nd monitor if possible.
Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Steve
    G4 400MHz, 448MB Ram,   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Hi i've just upgraded my Sawooth G4 to 1.4Gh Sonnet. It flies now! There used to be long waiting times in between rendering in Photoshop (but i'm used to it, then), but now, the spinning beach ball rarely make an appearance.
I was like you a few months back, and lots of people/friends adviced me to get a Mini instead. I'm glad i sticked with my G4 and upgraded parts, one at a time. I'm a Graphic Designer too. Though i'm using Photoshop 7, Illustator 10, Freehand MX, etc... Basically older versions.
Next up for me will be a Pioneer 110D, and i'm looking for ATI 8500 or 9000 through ebay. And maybe, just maybe a SATA card and HD.

  • Should I upgrade or buy new?

I currently use a G4 running OS 9.0 (400MHz, 128 MB, 20GB) for QuarkXPress and Photoshop/Illustrator. I also have access to my partner's Windows machine which I use for web browsing, email etc. I would like to be able to update/upgrade so I only have to use my Mac but am confused as to how to go about it. I also have a very limited budget.
Can I install newer OS on such an old Mac (is it capable of handling it, is it compatible) and can I do so without having to reinstall other apps (I have lost the installation disks for some of them). Also all my files are on the internal disk.
Would it be better just to buy a newer one (perhaps a reconditioned iMac) and new software? The cost of this (even an older new model) is scaring me slightly...

Hi! You are in a fix! Your best bet would be to start new but that won't be cheap as all your apps as well as your machine need a makeover. If you use Quark and PS for work you are wasting a lot of time. Frankly I didn't think PS would run on 128mb. You can buy a Mac mini used for 300-400 bucks that would be a step up and you could "probably" run your OS9 apps in "classic" mode under Tiger 10.4.You could upgrade your existing machine but a new processor and ram will run 350-500 bucks. A new iMac with new apps is the best approach but you talking serious bucks. I would probably advise you to buy a good used mac mini that came with the original Tiger install discs but you will need a higher version 9 os that is higher than 9.0 which you will have to buy. There are no real easy and cheap fixes in your situation. Tom

  • IBook G4 - Upgrade or Buy New System

I need help making a decision: is it reasonable to upgrade my iBook G4 (RAM, operating system) (+bigger hard drive?); or do I need to abandon it and buy a newer system? My considerations are: 1) DC-inboard is probably flaky. Even with a new power supply and power adapter, the battery intermittently stops charging (the LED light goes out). I have to unplug it from the power strip and move the plug to a different outlet on the strip to get it going again. 2) I'm using Safari 1.3.2 and more web sites are thumbing their noses at my "unsupported/outdated" browser. 3) The other software I use is fairly basic: MS Word 98 (running under Classic); Reunion; Photoshop Elements 2.0; Appleworks 6.0. 4) The hard drive has about 15mb free. 5) It might be Christmas but I am seriously unemployed, which is why I have been waffling over this decision for months. Thanks for y'all's suggestions.

    Hi, UUWoman:
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
It might be Christmas but I am seriously unemployed
That's a difficult place to be. I know as some of my family are there. However, even with your tight finances, it seems to be that updating your computer will be more cost effective than purchasing a new or newer computer. Let's take your issues in order..
    1. We'll begin with the HDD. Your drive is dangerously full. Besides, your computer is now 5 years old. The average life of a laptop internal HDD is 3 to 5 years. So in addition to your drive being too full it is liable to fail without notice. I believe that is your top priority. You can buy a new HDD for $50 to $100. If you can install it yourself you will save $75 or so. The DC-in board can be changed at the same time. Cost less than $20.
Instead of Safari I suggest you try Camino 1.6.10, which looks like Safari, but it is faster, more stable and more powerful. Free download.
So, your costs so far would be, let's say $75 for a new HDD, $20 for the DC-in Board if you do it yourself, or add $75 for installation. For less than $200 you will have your computer functional again. You will need around $700 for a used MacBook or $1000 for a new one.
May I suggest that if you are unable to upgrade your drive and you have valuable information on it, that you back it up immediately. You can also try to lean things down, but with so little HDD free capacity you hardly have room for working. Dr. Smoke's FAQ Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk is an excellent guide for clearing some breathing space.
Please do post back with further questions or comments.

  • Cleartune has updates available, but I keep getting a message saying "cannot connect to Itunes store"  all other updates work just fine?  The one app I paid for is the one that for some reason will not work.  How can I upgrade without buying it again?

I loaded cleartune a while back, there are upgrades/updates available, which I'm trying to load.  When I choose update, it asks for my password, which I provide and I get a message saying "cannot connect to Itunes store"  I have many other apps I've loaded and upgraded just fine.  However this one, the one I actually wanted bad enough to pay for, is wanting me to delete it and buy another copy.  How can I update Cleartune without buying it again?

    Hi all,
This is a very interesting situation. I did try to update one of my apps within itunes as was suggested. That worked !!
But then I noticed that I had 2 different logins that I must have created over the years. I almost forgot. I have a apple ID and an AOL ID. It seems that I purchased (actually they are all free) some apps with one ID and other apps with the other ID. I must have done this by accident.
So when I log out of one of the IDs on my Touch and then log in with the other ID, I can update the apps.
It seems that something changed on Apple's servers. It seems that until recently I was able to update free apps regardless of what ID I originally bought them with. Now it seems that's not the case. Apple must check this now.
Now that I know what the issue is, I'll make sure I use one ID all the time.
    Thanks,
    Steve

  • Why do I have to upgrade to buy books ?

So, like so many others, I have had the misfortunne to upgrade to iTunes latest version, on my main PC.     Like so many others, it's been a disaster.  Login to the store impossible, amongst other things.
But, on my laptop, I run the older version, 10.1.0.56, and it works quite nicely, thanks.
But, I went to buy stuff on the store today - because the login works perfectly with the old version - and it won't let me buy books, or get samples of them - it keeps telling me I 'must' upgrade to the latest version of iTunes, first ?
You mean the one that doesn't work ?  Ah, thanks but................No.
So, the artists/authors are ok with losing sales, because I won't download duff software - is that it ?
    Why can't I just buy stuff, as-is, on version 10.1.0.56 ?

I didn't think the update process was difficult at all... although I can understand the frustrations of a slow internet connection (I recently installed SP 2 on my parents' computer, with a dial-up connection). I do know, that with the release of iTunes 7, they have more or less overhauled the iTunes Store (doubling the resolution of their video files, for one thing) and therefore it no longer works in earlier versions of iTunes.

  • Upgrading and Buying Software on E-Bay

    Hello All,
I need to have answers to a few questions about buying and upgrading software:
    1. If you have a suite (e.g. CS3 standard), can you buy just Photoshop Upgrade CS4, rather than buy the more-costly suite, especially since Adobe has changed pricing between student and educator.
    2. On Adobe's site, it said that if you bought a student edition of software, the item could be registered without problem if you already had an educator (teacher) status - can someone corroborate this and tell me where the info is (Heaven knows if I could find this again!).
    3. If you have CS2, and then buy the CS4 upgrade- will the upgrade work to replace the CS2 or would one have to buy CS3 and then CS4 upgrades, or simply buy a whole new CS4?
Thanks, and have a nice day...

The problem with any laptop sale on ebay is that you can never tell whether it is legitimate or not.
If there's a MBP for $1000, chances are there's a reason why - either it doesn't work, or it doesn't exist.
You don't want to make large investments on ebay, as you can easily get burned.
There are many organizations in the UK and Nigeria that are involved in a large ebay laptop scam ring, and what they do is they "sell" super cheap laptops, or offer very large amounts of money for used laptops. They use cheap stories like they need to close the deal immediately because of XXXXXX or YYYYYYY, but it's all just a scam to get your money because the faster you send, the easier it is to fraud.
I'd say just do the right thing and save up money to buy one... if you're going to spend $1000, save up $2000, you're halfway there, and maybe when you're ready you will get the latest edition with newer features, and the new OS X 10.5.
Please don't waste your time buying a laptop on ebay, it's too difficult to sort out the "good sellers" from the bad. I tried SELLING a laptop, and I almost quit because of the amount of scams I received when trying to sell it, I'd receive roughly 10 to 20 DAILY

  • Do I upgrade or buy lightroom

I have CS5 and see the upgrade is $200. I tried Lightroom 4 and like the e-mail function and some of the development functions. Lightroom seem like it a easier application. Don't know how I would do a function light sawp heads in portraits and extensive text editing.
Are those functions available in CS6?
Do I keep CS5 and buy Lightroom 4?
    Tks for the help.

I do both, upgrade LR and upgrade PS.
LR adjustments are exactly the same ones you can do in the Camera-Raw plug-in in Photoshop which you’d be doing if you shoot raw-format photos, but unlike Bridge/ACR is much more efficient for 100s or 1000s of pictures.  LR has other functions that photographers might use like uploading galleries or geotagging or printing picture packages, or making photobooks using a specific vendor (Blurb), but LR does not have the layering or precise-selection tools you would use for head-swapping or adding areas of arbitrary text which aren’t what you do in the Camera Raw plug-in, just inside Photoshop, itself.
You can use a newer LR to drive an older PS one photo at a time, using LR’s Edit in PS with LR Adjustments right-click command, and have both sets of functionality having only paid extra for LR.   I almost always just use LR and rarely have to Edit in PS, nowadays, but I don’t slice and dice my picture content, either.
If you upgrade computers in the future and haven’t kept your PS-CSx current (upgrade your CS5 to CS6 in this case) and something in your older version of PS isn’t compatible with your newer computer, anymore, then you’d have to buy PS at the full-price—you can’t skip upgrades, anymore.

  • Wait, upgrade or buy now?

For some time now I've been thinking about repurposing my Mid 2010 Mac Mini and replacing it with a newer Mac Mini. Actually I want to replace my old 2006 Core Duo iMac that I currently have setup for the grandkids and guests to use.
The 2010 has been upgraded with a Hitachi 7200 rpm HGST drive and 8GB of Crucial RAM. It runs Mavericks and dual 21.5" Samsung monitor's without a single problem.
Without any speculating on if or when a new Mac Mini is coming out.
    Would you wait it out.......?
Put more upgrades (SSD /16GB) into the Mid 2010 and find a newer Mac for the grandkids.......?
Buy a Late 2012, upgrade (SSD/16GB) and then replace the 2006 Core Duo iMac with the Mid 2010 Mac Mini......?

    Thank you for the input.
In addition to the above scenarios, I have also seriously searched and contemplated just getting another 2010 Mini. Mostly because from what I read and seen, the Intel HD Graphic 3000 and HD 4000's in the 2011 and 2012's don't seem to be a whole lot better than the GeForce 320M in the 2010. I have also noticed that the 2010 seems to be holding it's value a little better than the later models.
At this point, I no longer use older software and have pretty much tamed Mavericks down to run like Snow Leopard.

  • I0S5: Upgrade or Buy Whole New Phone?

In anticipation of the I0S5 coming this fall to iPhones and iPad 2....does this mean just upgrading or does it literally mean I have to go out and buy a whole new iPhone? Ditto iPad 2. Confused.  If it's an upgrade, how will that work? Plug the iPhone and iPad 2  into iTunes, and let the upgrade begin?
    Any answers very welcomed.

You should be able to automatically upgrade the OS through iTunes
