Upgrade or purchase G5

Would it be in my best intrest to upgrade my stock 466/G4 to at least something workable or buy a G5 single 1.8ghz tower for 800$? It comes with 2gb RAM and brand new 160gb hard drive. My G4 upgrade would be more ram, superdrive, faster processor, larger hard drive. What would you guys do?

One way to compare would be to add up the costs of the G4 upgrades. For example, say the upgrade costs are $400.
Then determine the sale value of your G4. Here's 2 sites to look at.

Foe example, say the value of the G4 is $175.
Then do some calculations.
G5 cost -------------- $800
Minus G4 value ------- $175
Minus Upgrade cost --- $400
Equals $225 extra out-of-pocket for the G5.
This is just the cost basis. There are other considerations.
1. If you upgrade, you will not get the full value of your upgrades when you sell your G4.
2. The G5 is newer & should last longer without repairs compared to the G4.
3. The G5 will be more expandable & upgradeable in the future. i.e. Leopard may not run as good on the upgraded G4.
What are your computer needs that makes you want to upgrade the G4?
I would probably buy the G5.

Apple formerly ran a program that allowed you to replace DRM songs with non-DRM versions for 30 cents apiece. That program was discontinued by Apple last year.

I own CS 5 Design Premium. Reading the FAQs, it seems I am eligible to upgrade to CS 6 but I can't find the upgrade to purchase and download. I can't upgrade to CC because $49 per month is too much for me -- I don't use this product for work. The $29 offer seems reasonable but $49 is way too much. I don't need the majority of the programs included in CC, but subscribing to just three of them will cost way more. Really not sure what to do here :-(

Thanks Ned. I did find this page, however it isn't an upgrade. I have been purchasing Adobe products for years so that I could just pay the upgrade price for current products. With the current system, I would be paying much more than I would for an upgrade. For example, I have been using my version of CS for at least three years. The upgrade cost me $750 so that comes out to around $21 per month. I guess I have no options as far as upgrading except for paying for the overpriced CC. Oh well, time to start looking for alternatives. It was just so convenient to have the same programs at home that I use at work.

I would like to add to the comments with a few questions and suggestion for you to consider along with the rest.
1. At this point, do you have a purchased serial number in hand? If so, I would imagine that you could repeat the download making sure that you have designated the correct computer operating system, and, when asked for a purchased serial number, type in the one that you have before you.
2. If the situation has gotten out of control and confusing, then best discuss your status with Adobe Chat for starters. The following link should be helpful for that purpose.

Unfortunately I don't think you can . I have a similar problem where I bought a tv series in SD instead of HD . Not going to buy it again but I would happily pay the difference in price.

However they do say - in a comment added only recently -
'iCloud support is free during your Apple hardware product's complimentary support period or with an AppleCare Protection Plan. Depending on your hardware product's coverage, you may need to pay for support. iCloud support is currently available by phone.'
The implication is that if you aren't in the AppleCare window you can't get any support - which seems unreasonable if there is a payment issue. You can only try the contact method and see if you can get help - get your hardware number from 'About this Mac' before you start.

To go along with Clinton post if you just bought the system, AT the Regular Price, you have 14 days to return it for a Full Refund and then get the Newer Updated Version.
But there are No Upgrades that can be done to YOUR Current system. You have to Return it for Refund then But another one with the newer upgrades.
So As Usual the people at the Apple store, if that is where you called (A real Apple Store), have no Clue what they are talking about.

hello Vinod, what are the license you have bought. With ISE 1.2.1 we have new licensing scheme (plus license) and with 1.3 we have Apex, mobility license as well.

QT7 and MPEG2 playback component - upgrade or purchase?

I upgraded to QT 7 but now I can't play back MPEG2. Is there an upgrade for the MPEG2 playback component or do I have to purchase a new copy?

I'm staggered that Adobe makes it this difficult to even get advice.
I have been using Photoshop CS3 on a MacbookPro. I recently upgraded (was upgraded!) to Mavericks.
Now Photoshop CS3 no longer works (of course).
I need to know which product to purchase as an upgrade that WILL work. I can't find any sales number to call to ask, or any way to chat with sales personnel. I find a forum to be an extraordinarily time-consuming way to ask what is probably the simplest question out there.

You have 2 choices:
Join the Creative Cloud (monthly subscription) and get the current release PS CC 2014.
Creative Cloud pricing and membership plans | Adobe Creative Cloud
Or, purchase the older PS CS6 (the last suite Adobe sold outright).

Understand that if you purchase CS6, it will never get the updates that Creative Cloud users get.

The standard terms for the app store are that the "old" version will be pulled if/when a new upgrade version (e.g. from iLife 11 to 13) will be offered and that you will need to buy it again.
If you purchase the retail disk, then you can use that as long as it will be compatible with the OS you are using; however, if you decide you want iLife 13 from the app store, the same rules as above will apply. So, either use your retail disk as long as you want/can or go with the app store's terms and keep buying new versions.
