My project team and client is planning to upgrade oracle 9i RAC to Oracle 11g RAC.

    4 - Patch clusterware
    5 - Create ASM instance
    6 - Patch ASM instance
    7 - Install DB software
    8 - Patch DB software
    9 - Run dbca (create DB)
    10 - run "crs_stat -t" to check status
    you can run cluvfy before or after every step.
    11 - migrate old DB to RAC

  • Oracle 11g RAC on RHEL 4.0, error on 1 Node while running ./root.sh for CRS

    I am trying to install Oracle 11g RAC on RHEL 4.0 on Vmware and at the end of CRS installation when installer asks to run the two scripts (orainstRoot.sh and root.sh) on one node (on the node where runInstaller is started) throws following error

    I tried reinstalling again and it worked on Vmware Server.Some oracle products are certified on Oracle VM , but not RAC at the moment.

    First of all, you better created a new thread for this question, but still an attempt to answer your questions:
    Sizing is a very delicate task. It will be very difficult to size only on database size and # concurrent users.
    What anyone in this business would need to know is the processor architecture (Intel/Sparc/Power/etc.) and speed, the type of OS, etc.
    The best thing you can do is go to your hardware provider and see if they have anything like a sizing questionnaire to fill in (I know IBM, HP and Sun -at least used to- have them) and send it back to them to come up with a sizing estimate for you.
    It is generally better to have the Concurrent Manager away from the database tier. You can consider separate Concurrent Manager nodes, or include them into your application tier nodes.

  • Install Oracle 11G, RAC with VMWare, APPS R12, and OBIEE on one server?

    Dear Experts,
    I'm looking to upgrade my skills, and want to learn more of:
    Oracle 11G, RAC, VMWare, APPS R12, and OBIEE
    My server has two quad cores (8 CPU altogether) and 16 gigs of RAM.
    Years ago, I took a shots at installing RAC on multiple servers and firewire.
    One thing I remember was that after I installed RAC, I was not able to use the database unless I enabled all the RAC processes on the server. So, I was not able to just boot the database and use it in the traditional single server manner.
    Which I will also want to do.
    1) Does this symptom/aspect/characteristic of RAC install still exist?
    2) Is it realistic to install all this software on one server?
    If so, what is the order of operations for the install?
    3) If I have to prioritize, I'd like to install
    Oracle 11G, OBIEE, and APPS R12,
    Would installing R12 and OBIEE on the same server present any conflicts or issues?
    If not, what is the order of operations for the install?

    11G, R12, then OBIEE?There will not be any conflicts. I would suggest you to select vmware or virtual box in order to configure all these sw's.
    I have done such a configuration on my laptop with i7 Quad processor, 16GB RAM and 640 GB HDD.
    I have Installed 2 node RAC, 2 Node ERP and all are running smoothly without any issues.

    I installed Oracle RAC 11g on Windows 2008 64 bit, The installation was successfull crs_state -t executed successfully.
    Bt the machine got crashed ,when executed a select query with 100 sessions( For performance evaluation using TG). A blue screen is appeared on two nodes. So i am not able to evaluate the performance.
    Can you please tell any suggesstions to solve this issue? Is our hardware is not sufficient? Or any software settings has to be done?. I tried most of hte technique ,bt the problem still exists.
    The following machine configuration is used for Oracle RAC setup
    Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 GHz,
    Ram :4GB.
    OS : windows 2008 Server 64 Bit
    Oracle RAC , Clusterware 11g R2 64 Bit.

    Hi Gurus,
    Has any body ever successfully built a stable 11g Rac on Oracle VM 2.1.2 following the below instruction ?

    I built everything except creation of the database by runInstaller. My system is not stable and keeping hanging in the middle of creation database.
    I did some tests to only run two VMs (rac1,rac2) on VM server. The system hangs after a few hours.
    Does anybody has a successul story with the similar configuration?

    You are using HVM - try PVM (paravirtualization). It works for me, I've keep getting some mails from others mostly related to skipping some steps (missing bridge, syntax error in XEN file and so on). I don't know how you are performing RAC on just 2 nodes without storage nodes (shared XEN diskfiles -- "w!" parameter ?)
    Really I would like to help you, but without some in-depth traces (kernel oops, dmesg, /var/log/messages including errors, symptoms) i'm unable to do it. There is possibility that HVM image triggers some bugs which PVM does not (i've done it only on PVM for performance reasons)

    I am having a hard time migrating data from mysql maybe due to table size. I got mysql tables with more than 20M and the PC am running the sqldeveloper is running out of memory every time I try to migrate the tables.
    Can you share some experience migrating from MySQL to Oracle?

    Away from these things – anythings I need to configure or any services that I need to stop – like listener etc.It depends on setting you want.
    You may use two listeners separately or you can use one listener (9i) for both versions.
    If you decide to use two listeners (better option) then they must be listening on different ports (of course) and you don't need to stop or reconfigure anything on 8i.
    If you want use one listener for both instances (8i,9i) then you need to configure listener.ora for both instances and you should use 9i listener. But this option is not good as the first one.
    Just little hint. Create in user's home new enviroment file (for example .oracle9) with completely new enviroment for 9i. Then for work with 9i simply reset the enviroment by execution of ". .oracle9".
    Basicaly you don't need to stop anything during installation (but for sure you could to prevent some mistake during installtion) but installation could affect the server's performance.
