Upgrade oracle client 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.3 on w2k3 std edition sp2
hi,
new on the forum, hello everybody!
I'm looking for info about how to upgrade an oracle client 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.3.
I'm running the client on a windows server 2003 standard edition with SP2.
Several questions:
-is it an upgrade or a complete re-installation?
-where can i find the source for the upgrade?
-known issues for upgrading?
-if my db is in 10.2.0.3, can I use client 10.2.0.1?
thanks,
phil
Just apply the upgrade on the client's oracle home and make sure you don't have any running oracle software when you perform the upgrade, otherwise you will see dll conflicts.
You can still use the 10.2.0.1.0 client against the 10.2.0.3.0 since there is no functionality change at all, just bug corrections. It is advisable, however, that you are running at the latest patchset to avoid hitting known bugs.

Upgrade Oracle client from 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.4
Hello Folks,
I need to upgrade oracle client software from 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.4 on Windows.
1) do I need to apply just 10.2.0.4 patch or do I have to apply 10.2.0.2 and 10.2.0.3 as well?
2) also do we get the separate software for upgrading client versions.
I am trying to check under Patches tab in metalink and unable to get any output.
thanks!Hi,
1) do I need to apply just 10.2.0.4 patch or do I have to apply 10.2.0.2 and 10.2.0.3 as well?U can directly apply patchset 10.2.0.4 on client 10.2.0.1.
The patch number for patchset 10.2.0.4 is *6810189*

Upgrade Oracle Client 8.1.7 to 10g on Windows 2003 with IIS / ASP
I am having problems after I install 10201_client_win32 on Windows 2003 which uses IIS ASP application to connect via ODBC to Oracle databases.
tnsping and m/s access can connect but for some reason my ASP application can not connect but doesn't give me any error messages just hangs during ASP database connection
I have a mixture of 8i and 10g DSN connections which I use, I'm not sure if I need to un-install 8.1.7 driver or remove all 8i ODBC to enable this to work
Should ASP be able to connect to a mix of 8 and 10g drivers?
Perhaps some DLL incompatibility or install issue.
Note it works ok on XP workstation but not so far on Win2003 server.
Any help to verify install or things to check would be appreciated
PaulSince 8.1.7 was never certified on Windows 2003, it's entirely possible that it would cause some problems and might interfere with the 10g client.
If you are confident that the setup on your XP box is identical to the setup on the 2003 box, I would tend to suspect that the 8.1.7 client was causing the problem.

Oracle client for Itanium2 CPU (Montvale)
We found an oracle client software which works on Montesito CPU (previous Itanium2 CPU). But this version of the software does not support Windows Server 2008 Itanium Edition.
We need oracle Client which works on Intel Itanium2 (Montvale) CPU and Windows Server 2008 Itanium Edition(x64).
Would you please inform me how can i get the latest Oracle Client software which supports Intel Itanium2-Montvale CPU?
Thanks for your help.
Best Regards.If you didn't find one on otn, than I'm afraid you won't find one...
I only found the ones certified for Win Server 2003 Itanium, but Server 2008 seems only to be certified for x86...
You could hope that Server 2003 client works under Server 2008 (I'd give that a go), but that's not certified...

How to upgrade the Oracle Client silently ?
Hi all,
I have to upgrade the Oracle Client from 8.1.6.0.0 to 9.2.0.1.0.
I use the -record option for creating the destination file or edit the response file manually for being able to install the new client. But I have no idea, how to remove the old client.
The following command doesn't work:
C:\Program Files\Oracle\oui\install\setup.exe" -deinstall DEINSTALL_LIST={"oracle.client","8.1.6.0.0"}
What am I doing wrong? How to remove the Oracle Client silently?
Thanks for the help and best wishes from Frankfurt.
DimitriI created a instant client silent DE-INSTALL for version 10.1.0.2 on XP.
setup.exe -silent -deinstall -responseFile Z:\yyyyyy\xxxxxx.rsp
These are parameters are in my response file...
ORACLE_HOME="C:\oracle\InstantClient\10.1.0"
ORACLE_HOME_NAME="OraInstantClient10g_home1"
TOPLEVEL_COMPONENT={"oracle.client","10.1.0.2.0"}

You still have to manually update/remove the PATH & TNS_ADMIN environment variables and the file system directories. -
Provider not compatible version of Oracle client after upgrade 4.112.1.2
I had an ASP.NET 3.5 website running
on intranet small business server as production with:
OS Win2008 Standard 32-bit
Oracle Database 11g107 32-bit
Oracle DataAccess 2.111.60 32-bit
On a development laptop,
I upgraded the website to ASP.NET 4.0.
The development laptop had
OS Windows 7 32-bit
VS 2010
Oracle Database 11g201 32-bit
Oracle DataAccess 4.112.12
Application was running without errors.
On the production server,
I uninstalled Oracle Database 11g107,
to include removing Oracle home and install folders,
and in HKLM > Software > Oracle registry folder.
I installed Oracle Database 11g201
and installed the ODP.NET upgrade to 4.112.12.
(except for VS components).
In the website web.config,
I changed the referenced assembly to:
<assemblies>
<add assembly="Oracle.DataAccess, Version=4.112.1.2, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89b483f429c47342" />
I changed IIS70 Application pool advanced settings to ASP.NET 4.0,
restarting application pool and website.
Rebooted system.
On starting the application when it accesses the Oracle connection,
I get the dreaded: Provider not compatible.
Exception Details: Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleException: The provider is not compatible with the version of Oracle client
Source Error: An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request. Information regarding the origin and location of the exception can be identified using the exception stack trace below.
Stack Trace:
[OracleException (0x80004005): The provider is not compatible with the version of Oracle client]
Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleInit.Initialize() +433
Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleConnection..cctor() +844
It is not the VB.NET Oracle connection code,
as it runs fine on the development laptop.
So I look into the GAC.
GACUTIL /l shows 2.111.60 is still in the .NET
The Global Assembly Cache contains the following assemblies:

Is there a command I need to run to remove the old 111.6.0 Oracle client references from GAC?
Eventhough Oracle ODP.NET installer put a policy to refer the older version to the new?In
C:\Program Files\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework\.NETFramework\v4.0
and in
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319
There is only SYSTEM.DATA.ORACLECLIENT
I suspect that we would not see Oracle.DataAccess.dll in these locations anyway.
++++++++
In
C:\Windows\assembly
There is:
Oracle.DataAccess 2.112.1.2
Oracle.Database.Extensions 2.112.1.2
Oracle.Web 2.112.1.2
This is the GAC for ASP.NET 2.0-3.5,
so this appears to be correct
++++++++
In
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\assembly\GAC_32
There is:
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\assembly\GAC_32\Oracle.DataAccess\v4.0_4.112.1.2__89b483f429c47342
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\assembly\GAC_32\Oracle.Database.Extensions\v4.0_4.112.1.2__89b483f429c47342
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\assembly\GAC_32\Oracle.Web\v4.0_4.112.1.2__89b483f429c47342
with the appropriate 4.112.1.2 dlls in these folders
This is the GAC for ASP.NET 4.0,
so this appears to be correct.

Removed Oracle Providers references, I just need ODAC to update and insert data into schema data tables,
and do not use the ASP.NET Oracle Providers schema.
Should I need ASP.NET Oracle Providers schema, I can always add references in the application web.config.

So... why would I get provider not compatible version of Oracle Client...
there are no other versions of ODAC hanging around,
unless there are other locations I am not aware of.
The application works fine in development laptop.
The application works fine on production server when I use SYSTEM.DATA.ORACLECLIENT.
But we need to migrate away from SYSTEM.DATA.ORACLECLIENT according to Microsoft,
and I am sure Oracle would rather have me use Oracle.DataAccess client anyway.
++++++
I even tried a trick from another post to move what appears to be Oracle Instant Client components,
oci.dll, et al, from an installation into a new home of the Oracle 11g201 Cllent 32 along with Oracle.DataAccess.dll into the website BIN folder
and set references for Oracle.DataAccess.dll to LOCAL TRUE.

So I remain stuck. -
Oracle client install on upgraded win 2k desktop
I recently upgraded my PC from win98 to win2k. I already had the oracle client installed prior to the upgrade. I had to run the sql net config and a message came up saying my installation needed to be corrected. When I tried to reinstall the installer (y2k version), it says the oracle home (orawin95) cannot be used for an nt home but doesn't let me overide the location. I can't even get in to uninstall and start over! Is there a workaround?
Pl indicate which version of Win 7 - you will need Professional or higher - Home versions are not supported/certified, so things may or may not work as expected.

Hi,
I am having 10.2.0.1 oracle client running windows xp. I am trying to upgrade this client to 10.2.0.4. for this I downloaded the p6810189_10204_win32.zip.
While installing on 10.2.0.1 client oracle home. I am getting the following message
Certain Files which need to be reinstalled by Oracle Universal Installer being used, it shows the following services

System Restore Service
TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper

Please suggest, what to do... since the above services are irrelevant to oracle , is there any alternative?Do you have a web server running on this machine? Microsoft IIS f.ex.?
If yes, try stopping that.
Else, get a copy of Process Explorer from www.sysinternals.com and try to find which dll from Oracle installation folder is being used by any of the services (listed or unlisted).
