please Gurus, suggest me the correct procedure and Doc.
also i need advise on moving to the latest version 12.1 is it advisable?
Thanks & Regards.

For new setup use following MOS notes

    1. in physical connections part can i use the same work schema
    2. Can i use same contexts created or do i need to create everything as new and then try?
    Thanks,
    Rp.
    Hi,
As you mentioned that you just upgraded the database, so the data is same and schema is same you can connect with the same work schema.
Yes, you can use the same contexts , but need to do Reverse Engineering for your new database.
And about data server, i think you also have no need to create new data server, if hostname, sid and port etc are same as these were with R11(consult with your DBAs regarding it)

    It's running on a RedHat 5 (Linux version 2.6.18-164.10.1.el5)
I think I've first to upgrade the crs, than the database, is it correct?
    Thanks in advance,

    correct,
the steps are always in official guides provided with the patchsets , from My Oracle Support.

So for anyone else that stumbles across this posting. I had exactly the same issue. The problem for me was that there was a file in */tmp* called *.oracle_master_diskmon* with the wrong permissions. Removing this file allowed crs and more specifically $ORACLE_HOME/diskmon.bin to start correctly.
    $ ls -ltr /tmp/.ora*
    srwxr-xr-x 1 oracle oinstall 0 Dec 8 15:45 /tmp/.oracle_master_diskmon
No group write permissions on the file.
Hope this helps someone else save 8 hours digging around in the dark.

  • Oracle RAC 11g - Transition queries

    Hi,
I am about to get transition on Oracle databases used currently by one of the client managed by another vendor.

Appreciate if anybody can help me on this asap.

    Hi Everyone,
I installed Oracle RAC 11g on Windows 2008 64 bit, The installation was successfull crs_state -t executed successfully.
Bt the machine got crashed ,when executed a select query with 100 sessions( For performance evaluation using TG). A blue screen is appeared on two nodes. So i am not able to evaluate the performance.
Can you please tell any suggesstions to solve this issue? Is our hardware is not sufficient? Or any software settings has to be done?. I tried most of hte technique ,bt the problem still exists.
The following machine configuration is used for Oracle RAC setup
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 GHz,
    Ram :4GB.
    OS : windows 2008 Server 64 Bit
Oracle RAC , Clusterware 11g R2 64 Bit.i guess you have installed/configured RAC using VMware. i guess, the problem is with your RAM size. how much disk space and RAM size you have allocated for each machine?
    which documentation you have followed?

  • Oracle RAC simulation

    Hi,
Does anyone know if you can still download that Oracle RAC simulation bundle from Oracle which includes a VM with ASM and some RAC nodes?
    thanks

I think 3CPO is referring to VM image that Oracle use to have available externally (outside company). It is not available even internally now because it is obsolete, I believe. It was a VMWARE server image with 2 10g RAC nodes running on the same host, without external storage for ASM and OCR/VD. So, it was not a true RAC setup.
With 11gR2 RAC there are a few requirements that make such an image impossible to run. First off, if you want a full 11gR2 RAC system VM image you have to meet the external SCAN DNS requirement, plus it will need at least 8GB of RAM, three images (node1, node 2 plus an image for shared storage), 30GB of space.
So, if you want to use VM to build an 11gR2 RAC you have to either build it yourself on somewhat powerful machine - just like the other person suggested, or you can use these RAC simulators (for free, of course):

  • Oracle Upgrade from Oracle RAC 9.2.0.6 to Oracle 10.2.0.4

    Hi All,
Currently, we are running 4 node Oracle RAC environment with below mentioned configuration.
    OS: Sun Solaris 5.9
    Hardware: Sun E2900
    Oracle Version: 9.2.0.6
    Veritas Cluster Server: 4.1
We want to upgrade Oracle version to 10g, and currently analyzing the options to perform this. The current database size is 1TB appx and we want to spend minimum application shutdown time running on this database.
As part of upgrade, we also need to upgrade Veritas Cluster Server from 4.1 to 5.1 to support Oracle 10g. It would be great help,, if someone can pass some guideline to perform this task.
We are currently thinking about piecemeal approach, where we can upgrade each node individually and then put them back to cluster. There are some complexities involved, and its really high risk approach.
Thanks a lot in advance for help
    Regards,
    Manoj

Orcale 10g RAC requires you to install Oracle Clusterware. Oracle Supports running it along side a 3rd party clustering software. Not sure why you're so anxious to upgrade Veritas Clusterware when it will be trivial on the 10g db hosts.

  • Database upgrade - Oracle 10g r2 ,RAC(2 Nodes with ASM) upgrade from HP-UX to RHEL 5.9

    Hi All
I am planning to upgrade our RAC database 2 nodes with ASM from HP-UX to RHEL 5.9.
    Following is our setup
    Current setup:
    Oracle Database 10g r2 (10.2.0.5.0) RAC database.
    Nodes: 2
    Storage: ASM
    OS: HP-UX ia64
    Database Size: 1.2 TB
    New Setup:
Oracle Database 10g r2(10.2.0.5.0) RAC database
    Nodes: 2
    Storage: ASM
    OS: RHEL 5.9 x86 64
Since we are moving from a big endian format to a small endian format(HP-UX to RHEL 5.9) the same ASM cannot be used.
Kindly help me with process and other important documents to be followed.
    Thanks.

    Hi...
If it was a standlone database concepts like transportable tablespaces, rman would have been convenient.
Since we are using a RAC database with ASM as storage how do we use these techniques specified in NOTE:733205.1
Due to endianness issue we cannot use the same ASM instance.
Along with the new RAC node install a new ASM instance would have to be created.
Kindly help me with migration for RAC with existing ASM to new Hardware
    Thanks and Regards

It means will not have any impact of upgrading the following in oracle 2nodes 11gR2 environment running on AIX.
    SUDO: 1.8.5p2 to 1.8.6p8
    SSH: 5.8.0.6102 to 6.0.0.6102
    SSL: 0.9.8.1801 to 0.9.8.2500
So we need to bring down the servers and reboot the same once upgraded the above mentioned secured packages.
Will not have any problems of logging and Db will be in normal as earlier before upgrade and capable of using the secured packages as well, Please confirm on this?

  • Kernel upgrade for oracle rac

In our environment we have two node oracle rac (10.2.0.3) on RHEL4U5. We are using SAN(eva 4000)I need to upgrade the linux from 4.5 to 4.8 including kernel .Do I need to upgrade the SAN firmware too ?
    Thanks

In practise, OS upgrades do not affect other components, say like SAN firmware in this scenario.. I do not always have to upgrade/update the drivers (disk drivers inclusive) on the host every time when the OS on my machine is upgraded.
However, there could be compatibility issues which are rather product specific. SAN provider is the best source to advie us in such cases. As it is wisely advised earlier, it wont harm us to enquire with the involved parties.. although I make a generic statement that OS upgrade might not always lead to a firmware upgrade.
