Upgrade osx 10.5.8

Hey ! My Imac version is osx 10.5.8 Intel Core.
I want to know if it is possible to upgrade it to the newest version ??
thx

The report should show the Model Identifier - once you have that you can see what year your Mac is here:
http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/index-imac.html
...and then see it it meets the specs: https://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
The specs say 2gb RAM is required, but real-world use seems to suggest 4gb is a realistic minimum.
Also, many older apps will no longer work - have a look here: http://roaringapps.com/apps
So, if all the boxes are ticked, you'll need to first upgrade to Snow Leopard from the Apple Online Store, once installed do software update to bring it to the latest version (10.6.8) and then you'll have access the the Mac App Store to download Mavericks.
Ensure you have backup before embarking on the upgrade so you can return to the previous state if things go wrong (they shouldn't).

Not using any mouse pad, I have a very smooth desktop. But I just tried to use a sheet of A4 printing paper, but no result, the problem persisted.
Someone on this forum suggested, that USB3 may interfere with the magic mouse.
I have 2 LaCie HDD's about 70 cm away from the mouse, I use them on Thunderbolt. But in operation or not - the result is the same, the mouse plays up! Just now I was clicking the desktop and the mouse created a new folder!!
    Thanks for the advice, Bee
    Cheers, Gerd

  • Does upgrading OSX 10.6.8 cause PhotoShop 9.0.2 to stop working?

Would upgrading OSX 10.6.8 cause PhotoShop 9.0.2 to stop working?

A Safari upgrade will not affect PS. An OS X upgrade, however, could. See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.

  • Adobe CS 3 to 5.5 Upgrade OSX

    Hi,
I have a question regarding an upgrade I have performed on OSX Snow Leopard.
    Situation :
An iMac with OSX Tiger and Adobe CS 3 installed.  Needs to be upgraded to Adobe CS 5.5 Design Standard
    Actions performed:
    1) Upgraded OSX to Snow Leopard
    2) Installed Adobe CS 5.5
The weird thing is, on the box of CS 5.5 it says upgrade version.  But when I look in the applications folder
there seem to be 2 seperate installations of CS 3 and CS 5.5.  I have doubles for every program in both versions.
I find it weird that it seemed to have done a completely seperate install and no upgrade.
The user who works on this Mac would like to see the old version gone, but I'm a bit worried that
uninstalling CS 3 will also deactivate/mess up the CS 5.5 installation.
In the applications/utilities folder I can see an CS 3 uninstaller.
Can anyone tell me if it is safe to run this installer an that the CS 5.5 installation will be untouched and still be activated.
The sticker on the CS 5.5 upgrade box clearly says : UPGRADE VERSION.
    Any advise is much appreciated.

What will likely happen when you remove CS3 is it will affect the file associations.  You can either uninstall both CS3 and CS5.5 and reinstall CS5.5, it will ask for a qualifying serial number, or you can reinstall CS3 and manually restore any needed file associations.

    HELLO <<<<<<<CARNAC THE GREAT >>>>>.....
First...I want to thank you for your efforts ..... I really have very little knowledge of OS ...I'm more a classic end user that used to relied on "tech support" people to fix things.
When I left the corporate world ...  I switched to Apple and now also have ( and couldn't live without) an IPad, an IPhone , & a big silver IPod. But I'm more into the front end ...the OS world is beyond my attention span ....it seems..
When I have a problem, I have run down to see a "genius" ..... but with my finding this discussion group ( yesterday (@#&*%*^)  ...its much better because it seems one can get not only help ..... but also "work around's" that geniuses don't tell you about. But there are people like you willing to share their knowledge. BRAVO!
But Maybe your cards got out of order because I have .....a late 2007 ....... It may have been That Hat.

And ....... I am already running on OS X 10.7.4
But when I go to the app store and try and buy  Mountain Lion .... It says my computer is not compatible.
From what been said it seems the only problem lies with the " Late 2007" thing. Is the 4MB I have the right MG ?
Got any ideas ....of what I might do.
Its just not a good time for be to buy a new Mac...
So your help is greatly appreciated.
And I know that I may be left in the dust and eventually become unsupported...its just the way it is ....
    Thanks for your comments...and help....
    Travel Safe....
PS  `   What do you think Apple was thinking  >>>> Apple knows EXACTLY what I have  but they still sent me an email telling me to by Mountain Lion. Do you think they just don't take time the  to sort their database .... or is it really a way to make you feel "out of Date"  .....until all his started I did not  even know my MacBook was a " late 2007"...or ?

  • HT2404 do you loose any info on laptop when you upgrade osx to mountain lion

You should not; however, I would not upgrade without having a full backup - just in case.

  • Impossible to upgrade OSX 10.8.5 before loading Aperture

Hello. Before buying Aperture, I had to upgrade OSX 10.8.5 with OSX 11... but this update is not available on my MacPro. Haw can i obtain this update?

You can upgrade from 10.6 straight to 10.9 with no problems as long as you have at least 4gb of RAM. Any program that runs under 10.6 should run under10.9.
Once you are at 10.6.8 Mavericks is still available from Apple. 100.9 Mavericks is a free download from the App Store.
Mavericks will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly.
As for third party programs see this list for compatibility with 10.9 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Mavericks.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

  • Problem upgrading OSX 10.4.11 to leopard on my iMac (intel)

I'm trying to upgrade OSX 10.4.11 to leopard on my iMac (intel) I need to do this so I can update iTunes to sync with the iPhone 4. I'm getting the same error each time I try to install  "OSX cannot be installed on this computer". Can anyone help with this?

I would max out the RAM first, 2 GB is not really enough Memory.
You don't have to go to Leopard 1st, you can go to Snow Leopard, then Lion if you want.
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    General requirements
       * Mac computer with an Intel processor
        * 1GB of memory (I say 2GB at least)
        * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
        * Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
Which apps work with Mac OS X 10.6?...
    http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/
It looks like they might still have it...
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDAzOA
    If it's a core Duo & not a Core2Duo, then it'll only run in 32 bit mode.
    Lion/101.7 System requirements
        •    x86-64 processor (Macs with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel Core i3, Intel Core i5, Intel Core i7, or Xeon processor.)
        •    At least 2GB of memory, I say 6 GB
        •    Latest version of Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.8), with the Mac App Store installed
        •    At least 4GB of disk space for downloading, I say 50 GB.
Like Snow Leopard, Lion does not support PowerPC-based Macs (e.g., Power Macs, PowerBooks, iBooks, iMacs (G3-G5), eMacs).
Lion also does not support 32-bit Intel Core Duo or Core Solo based Macs. Rosetta is no longer available in Lion, which means Lion no longer supports PowerPC applications.

  • Upgrading OSX -- To Tiger or Leopard?

I need to upgrade OSX if I want to run Adobe Lightroom. My computer is currently running Panther, and I need at least Tiger to make things work. The question is, Leopard is coming out in "spring 2007", which seems to me to be now. Is there any more info on when that will be?
Second question, is there any situation where I would be able to buy Tiger now and then upgrade free to Leopard, given that Leopard will hopefully be available any day now?
I need a better photo system asap (baby was due two days ago). Should I find something that doesn't depend on OSX? I really don't want to get stuck with an outdated version just because of the timing of the Leopard release.

    Hello Elizabeth,
" Is there any more info on when that will be? "
No one here knows. If they did know they would never say here. That would be speculation and speculation is not allowed in here.
" Second question, is there any situation where I would be able to buy Tiger now and then upgrade free to Leopard, given that Leopard will hopefully be available any day now? "
Very doubtful. I suppose you may have a case if you bought on Monday and Leopard was released on Tuesday.
" Should I find something that doesn't depend on OSX? "
Only you can decide that one Elizabeth! There are many many options for alternate applications. Everything gets outdated at some point.
    Regards
    Ian

  • How do i upgrade osx 10.4.11

    how d i upgrade osx 10.4.11?

We need to know more about your computer.  Go to the apple in the upper left corner, then to More. Copy and paste the information you see there but omit serial number.  Basically if you are running a PPC Mac that is frommm 2005 or earlier you cannot upgrade any further than OSX 10.5.8 which is itself very old.  If you are running an Intel Mac you can upgrade to OSX 10.6 at least.  You do that by purchasing a Snoiw Leopard disc from Apple online.  Additional upgrades may be possible but the best answer lies in knowing more about your computer.

so that I can use apple tv/facetime etc. mountain lion requires 10.6.8 how can I upgrade my osx? help!
    Thank you~

Buy Snow Leopard from the online Apple Store - http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard - and update until you get to 10.6.8. Then, if you're computer is able to run Mountain Lion, you'll be able to purchase ML and install it via the App Store.
    Good luck,

  • Worried upgrading OSX Mountain Lion 10.8 because of...

    Hi to All!
I'm already a MBP user for 1 year and since then I didn't upgrade my OSX. I'am worried because the time I bought my MBP one of my friend upgrade the OSX to 10.8 by using his usb thumb drive I didn't have the chance to asked hm if that is pirated or good because of excitement , I want to ask him these days but unfortunately he is unable to contact.
So my question is... is it safe to update my OSX 10.8 to 10.8.4 (latest version) thru App Store by clicking the update button? because I am just thinking if my friend update my OSX using pirated or not good stuff I'am worried that Apple might block my MBP or something and if that so I might stay on this version for good, I would like to buy the 10.8 before if I it is required in order to stay legal.
    Please help!
    Advance Thanks!

    Yes, it's safe. Do this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Download and install 10.8.4 Mountain Lion Update v10.8.4 (Combo).

  • Upgrading OSX 10.6.8 to mavericks. please help me in this.

Hello.. i am using OSX 10.6.8 and FCP 7.0.3. if i upgrade to mavericks. will anything happen to my fcp or projects. please help me in this.

You need to reseach all the hardware and software you have not just FCP.
Check your Mac as plenty of RAM and disk space and the correct CPU.
Check any peripherals, printers scanners, external disk storage of any type.
In fact anything you use requires checking for compatibility.
You may get more answers in the FCP forums, I use FCE 4.01 and it works for me in Mavericks but I am not a power user.
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/professional_applications
Have a good backup and restore options, which you should have any way, if the upgrade does not go as planned you can restore to the previous system.
I run Mavericks on both my Macs, works well for me but you need to check all options.
