Upgrade osx version 10.4.11 on iMacG5

I have inherited a iMac G5 with osx version 10.4.11.
Processor: 2 GHz PowerPC G5 (3.1)
Memory 512 MB DDR SDRAM
Machine Model: PowerMac8,2
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
  Memory: 512 MB
  Bus Speed: 667 MHz
Can I upgrade to current software version in osx?

You can upgrade to 10.5.8, but no further. Buying Leopard will require searching on Amazon and eBay for retail copies.

How can I get all photos from iPhoto to automatically back up to iCloud from my Mac OSX Version 10.6.8 operating system.  Not enough memory to upgrade.

You can't.  iCloud is not for general file backup from a Mac. It's for backup up and syncing data between mobile devices and and Macs and  The following is from this Apple document: iCloud: Backup and restore overview.
iCloud automatically backs up the most important data on your (mobile) device using iOS 5 or later. Once you have enabled Backup on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch .....
    What is backed up
You get unlimited free storage for:
Purchased music, movies, TV shows, apps, and books
Notes: Backup of purchased music is not available in all countries. Backups of purchased movies and TV shows are U.S. only. Previous purchases may not be restored if they are no longer in the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore.
Some previously purchased movies may not be available in iTunes in the Cloud. These movies will indicate that they are not available in iTunes in the Cloud on their product details page in the iTunes Store. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they have been refunded or are no longer available in the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore.
You get 5 GB of free iCloud storage for:
Photos and videos in the Camera Roll
Device settings (for example: Phone Favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts)
    App data
    Home screen and app organization
    Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS)
    Ringtones
    Visual Voicemails
But not from a Mac.  If you want to backup your photos and other important files I suggest you get an external hard drive and use  it with Time Machine.

You can check the status of your drive's indexing by clicking the Spotlight menu to see if there is a progress bar at the bottom of it, and can also open Activity Monitor and click the "%CPU" column to sort by CPU usage, to see if the processes "mds" or "mdworker" are currently active and using your CPU.
If so, then wait for them to finish. However, if not then try rebooting and then hold the Shift key immediately after you hear the boot chimes. This will load the system into Safe Mode, which should run some checks and maintenance routines on the system. Then reboot normally to see if the problem persists.
How much RAM do you have installed on your system? You can see this by choosing About This Mac from the Apple menu.

I have Mac Book Pro osx version 10.6.8 if I download Lion will it upgrade my Safari?
    Thanks

The most recent Safari version for Mac OS X is 5.1.7, and the most recent Safari version for Lion and Mountain Lion is 6.0.2, so Safari will be updated.
To upgrade your Mac to OS X Mountain Lion, see > http://www.apple.com/osx/how-to-upgrade

  • I have a Mac OSX Version 10.4 and iphoto 6. I cannot upgrade to a later version of iphoto 6 because it requires a 10.5.6 or later. What can I do?

I have a Mac OSX version 10.4.11 and iphoto 6. I can no longer order cards, prints etc. and cannot upgrade to a newer version of iphoto because I don't meet the system requirements of 10.5.6 or later. What can I do?

Unless you upgrade the OS and then iPhoto, not a lot, I'm afraid.

If you're using a PowerPC Mac, no.
If you're using an Intel Mac, phone the online Apple Store and order a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD.

Yes. Don't worry, Apple won't let you download something that requires a purchase before actually paying.

  • I have a Power Mac G4 Mac OSX version 10.5.8. Is there a way I could update or upgrade my comptuer? Or just have to buy a completely new one?

I have a Power Mac G4 Mac OSX version 10.5.8. Is there a way I could update or upgrade my comptuer? Or just have to buy a completely new one?
Not sure how to really work this, I have an ipad and just trying to make everything work together as far as using icloud. As you can guess my apple G4 has been made 2004. I got this from a friend about a year ago but never bothered to update it till now, when I have an iPad 2. Just want everything to work together so I could organize every part of my life.

10.5.8 is the latest OS a Power Mac will run.

  • Mac OSX Version 10.5.8 Upgrade

I currently have Mac OSX Version 10.5.8. The disk we were given at the day of purchase on our new iMac, 1 year ago, clearly says Snow Leopard. Why is it that I need to purchase Snow Leopard a second time for Verison 10.6 in order to buy Lion from the Mac app store?! Is this a faulty disk?

It is possible that your system was preloaded with Leopard 10.5 and Apple included a Snow Leopard disk with your new system.  That seems a little odd, however, since Snow Leopard was released in August 2009 and you bought your system in late 2010.
Have you tried using the Snow Leopard disk to upgrade?

  • HT4472 What do I need to do to upgrade to a 10.6? I have a Mac OSx version 10.5.8

What do I need to do to upgrade to a 10.6? I have a Mac OSx version 10.5.8

Giving just the basics, first you need to confirm that your iMac will run 10.6. See:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
Then you need to confirm that your applications and peripherals will run under 10.6 or that they can be upgraded to do so.
Finally, you need to purchase a retail copy of 10.6. See:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A

  • I have a Mac OSX Version 10.5.8 When I put in my disc to upgrade to snow leopard version 10.6.3 it tells me I need atleast 1gb of ram memory to download. what can I do

I have a Mac OSX Version 10.5.8 When I put in my disc to upgrade to snow leopard version 10.6.3 it tells me I need atleast 1gb of ram memory to download. what can I do

Your iMac can take a total of 2 GBs of RAM Max.
    Maximum Memory
    2.0 GB
    Memory Slots
    2 - 200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM
You will be able to install OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and it will run, but you may not be happy with the performance overall.
OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and later OS X versions use more and more CPU, GPU and RAM resources.
OS X 10.6, by itself, will use between 2-4 GBs of RAM to run quickly, smoothly and efficiently.
Start running additonal applications and your iMac is going to struggle.
Just fair warning if you notice that your iMac is running slower after installing OS X 10.6.
    Good Luck!

Click here and buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD. Once you've installed it, you can then run the 10.6.8 combo updater and buy Mac OS X 10.8 from the Mac App Store.
