Upgrade = Pages running very slowly
Hello,
I upgraded to Lion on my iMac (2.66 Core 2Duo / 4 GB DDR2 SDRAM) and Pages '09 has become nearly completely unresponsive, especially when working with tables.
I've poked around and turned off thumbnails, set the table as floating, etc. but nothing has improved.
There seems to be a lot of folks having this issue. We shouldn't have to deal with this.
Have you upgraded to the latest version of Pages '09?
I upgraded my wife's 6 year old Macbook with only 1 Gb to Lion and have not noticed any greater slow down.
Do you perhaps have something else that is eating up substantial RAM, such as large number of fonts, or your hard drive has become rather full.
Open Activity Monitor in your Utlities folder and look particularly if there is a large number of Page Outs (writing to hard drive).

MacBook Pro mid-2012 running very slowly after upgrade to Yosemite
Problem description:
MacBook Pro mid-2012 - installed Yosemite, and the system now crawls. Webpages have very delayed responses, can take 30+ seconds to react to typing or selection. I turned off FileVault, that did not appear to help. Emptied the trash, removed some obsolete fonts. Any help for what else to try would be much appreciated.

Diagnostics Information: ℹ️
Feb 15, 2015, 06:03:15 AM Self test - passed1. Check the cycle count of the battery against the rated life for your model. The battery may be due for replacement. If the power adapter is connected almost all the time, the battery may need replacing even though the cycle count is not too high.
2. Follow these instructions, or these for OS X 10.8 or earlier.
3. In the Energy Saver preference pane, uncheck the box marked
Enable Power Nap while on battery power
if it's shown (it may not be.)
4. You can also try resetting the SMC.
5. Make sure your system is up to date in Software Update.
6. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center. -
My macbook pro (13inch mid 20101) is running very slowly since I upgraded to Yosemite. How can I cure this or how can I remove Yosemite?
OS X 10.10.1
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 duo
4GB 1067 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256MB
Opening apps or web pages is incredibly slow and extremely frustrating.Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
5. Reinstall Yosemite from Scratch:
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless. -

Only Hotmail running very slowly and errors in loading correct page
recently Hotmail havs taken a long time to load pages. Plus when a email is selected page flickers and wrong page displayed.
this is not happening with Yahoo mail. Sometimes error message such as "not responding" or "cannot complete". But only when trying to get hotmailHi Larry,
Thankyou for your reply, this is a partial answer
This server has been running for about 3 years now,
The faults started after I did an service pack update for sharepoint. I then did the manual update but the C drive then started to run very slowly and was giving disk size too low errors so I moved the SUS to a different drive but this hasnt helped. It is
still running painfully slow. Ran SBS BPA and found no faults. However ran Exchange BPA and did find faults which I have now fixed. Still have large number of errors

After upgrading to OS X Lion Aperture 3.1.3 runs very slowly and crashes
After upgrading to OS X Lion Aperture 3.1.3 runs very slowly and crashes regularly when editing and/or exporting images. Prior to the upgrade these problems did not exist - has anyone else encountered this behavior and found a resolution?
My iMac has 2GB of RAM (max RAM is 3GB according to the machine specs) and uses a 2TB external drive for the Aperture library and Time machine backups. Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately after doing the Repair Permissions and rebuilding the Aperture Library the performance has not improved.
I cleared out the cache(s) by removing all of the files in the following folders and restarting:
Hard Drive/Library/Caches
Hard Drive/System/Library/Caches
Hard Drive/Users/(Your user)/Library/Caches
which seems to have helped a little bit. I did notice that in my Users folder there are 111 items:
username
username 1 (then folders with the same name up to 109)
Shared
could the extra username folders be causing the performance issue? In each folder is a Library folder, in the Library folder is a Preferences folder and in the Preferences folder is a com.apple.internetconfigpriv.plist file and sometimes a com.apple.LaunchServices.plist file.
Only the username 1's Library folder has the standard Caches, Fonts, Logs & Preferences folders.
Is it safe to remove the username 2 - 109 folders? If so is the creation of these folders something I can turn off? -
My MacBook is running very slowly since upgrading to Yosemite
My MacBook is running very slowly since upgrading to Yosemite I have lots of room on my hard disc. All applications are working but very slowly. Help!
When the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. -
After upgrading to iOS 8.0 on my iPad 2, it is running very slowly and doesn't always respond to screen taps. Is OS8 the problem?
You aren't running a Classic operating system. See this tip on the correct place to post:

I upgraded my mid 2007 IMac to Yosemite and it has been running very slowly since then. I have 3GB of ram. Has this been a problem for anyone else?
Your iMac year and model is low on RAM.
3 GBs is really not enough RAM to operate your Mac under OS X Yosemite OR Mavericks smoothly and efficiently.
New Macs now ship with 8 GBs of RAM as minimum, base installed amount of RAM.
Your Mac model can take a maximum amount of 6 GBs of RAM.
I strongly recommend purchasing and installing the necessary RAM amount to meet the 6 GB RAM total.
If you live in the U.S. , Correct, compatible and reliable Mac RAM can be purchased from online Mac RAM sources Crucial memory or OWC (macsales.com).
OWC (macsales.com) has the proper RAM module or kit needed to get your Mac to the 6 GB RAM total limit.
http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/5300DDR2S6GP/
RAM is user installable and is, relatively, easy to install be newbie and novice Mac users.

Runs VERY slowly--pages change very slowly
Chrome will run fast.
Oh, sorry! Here are the infos to my computer system:
I work with the latest version of Indesign 2014.0.
My document is about 107MB and it is full of PDFs/JPGs/PSDs and other
Links. But i don't think, that it's because of that. Because sometimes it works
fine. And then, all of a sudden, InDesign runs very slowly... -
Yosemite running very slowly on new MacBook Pro
I just bought a new 13" MacBook Pro (not Retina) last month. When I set it up I copied the data and apps from my 2006 MacBook running Snow Leopard. When I try to open apps such as Safari or jEdit or Adobe Reader or NeoOffice it seems to wait forever (or at least 30 seconds) to open them. I thought this would be faster than Snow Leopard, but it's not!
Should I just back this all up with my SuperDuper and start over?
Here are my Etrecheck data:
Problem description:
Yosemite running very slowly.

One of the myths that circulate on this site is the myth that the current version of OS X always needs to more than 4 GB of memory to run well. The myth is based on nothing except the fact that some people keep repeating it. Apple is today selling new Macs with 4 GB of memory that can never be upgraded after they leave the factory. Those Macs come with Yosemite preinstalled, and it can never be downgraded to an older version. So if you were to believe the myth, you would also believe that Apple knows that it's selling products that are permanently crippled right out of the box, no matter how they're used. Read this discussion before you spend money on memory that you may not need.
Some users do need more than 4 GB of memory for full performance. They are running memory-intensive applications, such as photo or video editors, or they're running many programs concurrently, or they have more than one account logged in at the same time. Whether you're one of those users can be determined, in part, by observing the level of memory pressure in the Memory tab of the Activity Monitor window. If the memory pressure graph always stays in the green zone, then a shortage of memory is not causing the problem.
Even if memory pressure is high, that doesn't necessarily mean that adding more memory will help. If one or more processes has a memory leak—a kind of bug—then adding memory, no matter how much, won't help. It will merely delay the onset of the problem, perhaps only by a few minutes or less. That is very likely the case if you already have more than 4 GB. -
Why is Firefox taking up a lot of CPU and running very slowly?
For the past week my Firefox (and also Chrome) have been running very slowly. Any time a page loads the CPU column in Task Manager shoots up to between 10-20 when it's usually at 00, and it sends my cpu fans into overdrive until the page is loading.
Pictures load very slowly, and busy pages are even worse, such as Weather channel pages or Gawker blog articles. I've run MSE, Malwarebytes, I've run Firefox in safe mode, nothing is working. I'm really beginning to get frustrated because it's making any kind of browsing at all very unenjoyable.Safe Mode didn't make any difference?
Run all Windows Updates, install all needed service packs, etc.
Update your graphics driver (Firefox uses your graphics card for some rendering, and an out of date graphics card driver can cause problems. [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-upgrade-my-graphics-drivers https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-upgrade-my-graphics-drivers].

My Macbook is running very slowly...
It runs very slowly sometimes, even when I quit programs to reduce workload etc. Any ideas about how to tell what's going on?
If you open Activity and select the System Memory tab and look at the Page ins/outs data. If your page outs go over 20% or so of your page ins then you simply need a RAM upgrade.
Just FYI, a page out occurs when data on RAM is "paged" out to virtual memory which resided on your hard disk. many page outs results in a far from optimal system performance and can be remedied by upgrading your RAM. The higher the page out percentage the more RAM it is suggested that you buy. In the best case your page out count should be zero. This means that you do not need to temporarily more data out to virtual memory signifying you have enough RAM. -
I just got the Macbook 2 weeks ago and have moved all my files. Setup has gone ok, but now when I start using some of the applications they run very slowly - Microsoft Word/Power Point and even Pages act like there isn't enough RAM to keep them running smoothly. Even simple keystrokes in Pages (when it is the only application open) are delayed. This doesn't seem right.
I bought the machine at an Apple Store and had them upgrade the memory to 1G in the store.
Help????Repairing permissions isn't going to help. If you were having any disk based problem you would want to repair the hard drive, not permissions.
Try a couple of things:
1. Boot into Safe Mode by restarting the computer and after the chime press and hold down the SHIFT key until the startup screen appears (gray screen with dark gray Apple logo and spinning gear) then release SHIFT key. You will get a login window that should say Safe Mode. Run Pages without any other software except Activity Monitor and see what happens.
2. Create a new user account and log out of your normal account and log into the new user account. Do the same as above and see what happens.
This will help determine if you may have a problem with some third-party item that isn't loaded when in safe mode or if you have a preference file, logfile, or cachefile problem when in the new user account.
