Upgrade path - switching to mac

I'm making the jump to a mac and was wondering if there was a way to do this without hurting the wallet too much.
I have:
-Photoshop 6.0 full for Windows
-Creative Suite Standard upgrade for Windows
-Creative Suite 3 Design Premium upgrade for Windows
Is there a way to jump to Creative Suite 3 Design Premium for OS X?

Call Adobe. You may have to pay the upgrade to CS 3.3.
You'll also need to destroy the Windows media, uninstall the software
from any Windows machine and fill out some paperwork attesting to the
fact that it's been done.
Besides the upgrade fee to 3.3, it should be a very nominal cost.

  • Is there an upgrade path for 2007 macs?

I have a 2007 Mac Pro. Does anyone know of an upgrade path to OSX Mavericks?

There isn't one.  That machine is basically stuck with Lion (10.7.5) as the last OS X version it can run.  It lacks 64-bit EFI which is a requirement for OS X Mountain Lion and Mavericks.

  • Upgrade from iMac to Mac Pro - RAID5 options?

I am currently using a 27" iMac 2.66 Ghz Core i5 for my main processing needs (RAW image file editing in Adobe Lightroom & Photoshop plus HDSLR footage editing in Final Cut) and am feeling constrained by my storage options (I don't like external enclosures but want a separate boot/apps drive from my media drive) so my only logical upgrade path is a Mac Pro.
My ideal solution would be to have a lightning fast boot/apps drive (SSD seems obvious choice) and then a RAID5 array of 3 large (2TB) drives to give me at least 4GB of media storage.
The problem is that when I go to spec a Mac Pro with a hardware RAID card (because I understand that software RAID under Disk Utility can only offer RAID0 or RAID1), I am told by the web configuration tool: "Solid-state drives are not compatible with the Mac Pro RAID Card in either RAID or Enhanced JBOD mode."
What I would like to know is whether this is an absolute technical limitation or is it just something that Apple does not officially support? This would be my main production machine so I don't want to implement any hacks.
P.S. reason for my current dislike of enclosures is the extra cables/space/noise/heat they generate and also the current debate over interfaces (would like to use eSATA or USB3 to get fastest transfer speeds).
Thanks in advance for any replies!

    3 drives to me = RAID3
Apple Pro RAID card: find a good external - threads discussing options - look at AMUG reviews and elsewhere. CalDigit or something. Maybe RAID6 capability.
I would use internal drives in software RAID0.
And the only interface for external, SATA only cases, none of these consumer cases for multi interface, though OWC has a popular RAID5 4 drive setup you might like.
Use OWC SSD or two for system, and 3 x 2TB WD Black RAID0. No trouble with that. Just lots and lots of clones and backups is all.

  • Mac DW-CS4 Activation Trouble from CS2 Upgrade Path

Am I mistaken? I've just purchased what I believe to be the correct version of DW CS 4 UPG from GoLive, CS2 or 9. $199.00 Mac, English, as currently offered at the Adobe online store.
However, the installer doesn't find my existing version of CS2 nor does it accept my valid serial numbers from CS2 or CS(1)(as in GoLive CS.) A few weeks ago, there was conflicting information buried here in certain website pages about the upgrade path (which seem to have been reworded now) along with conflicts in Adobe Service Provider documents about upgrades. Furthermore, there still seems to be conflicting / confusing upgrade path info on the top of the list at the Dreamweaver forum FAQ – the post from two weeks ago named "Serial number not accepted." The post says you can't upgrade from a Creative Suite to a standalone version but at the Adobe store the contrary is offered.
    Am I mistaken?
    Could this be more confusing?
Does anyone else besides me find the 7 blue links on the lower left of the Dreamweaver store page regarding "Please check upgrade eligibility before making your selection..." do not work at all? (I'm using the latest Safari.)
    Thanks!
    – If not now, when.

The upgrade path is listed here: http://www.adobe.com/products/dreamweaver/upgrade/?view=available.
It says you can upgrade to Dreamweaver CS4 from Adobe GoLive 9, CS2, CS, 6.0, or 5.0. However, that means a standalone version of GoLive, not GoLive as part of a suite. This is confirmed on the following page: http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/faq/?anonymous_element_1=2. It lays out the upgrade eligibility very clearly:
Am I eligible for upgrade pricing from a previous suite edition to a standalone product?
No. Upgrade pricing is available only if you have one of the qualifying earlier products listed on the upgrade eligibility page of the product you wish to purchase and can provide the serial number for that product during installation.
Creative Suite Premium or Standard; Creative Suite 2 Premium or Standard; Production Studio; and Macromedia Studio do not qualify for upgrade pricing on standalone products such as Photoshop CS4, Illustrator CS4, or Dreamweaver CS4.

  • Hi, I currently have Lightroom 5.6 for MAC and Adobe has launched Lightroom 6 - I am trying to understand if there is an upgrade path for 5.6 users and how much does it cost, if any or is a forklift upgrade i.e. new software all together.  Thanks

Hi, I am a Lightroom user and currently have 5.6 version (DVD Version).  The lightroom 6 version, for existing lightrrom users, is there an upgrade path or it is a new software entirely.  In either cases, what costs are associated.
    Thanks,
    Raj

LR 6 is a new payfor upgrade, $80 in the US if you have the serial-number-licensed LR 5.  If you're already using the CC version of LR+PS then it just comes along as a new app you can install.
It’ll run alongside your LR5 so you can try it out and see if it’s something you want.
The only trial is a LR-6-CC version that you can convert to a serial-number-licensed version if you buy a serial-number.  I think the download in LR 5 when it notifies you of an upgrade is what you can use to try it, although I don’t have personal experience with that seeing as I have the CC version of LR+PS so the CC App provided the Install button for me.
The main issues people are having are for some system configurations performance is worse.  Adobe rewrote it to use the GPU in the Develop module but some people’s video cards aren’t up  to the task, and for some people even turning off the GPU, while speeding things up, doesn’t make it as fast as LR 5.
On my system it seems to work great.

  • Upgrading to CS5 on MAC - last purchase was for PC

My order is on a status of pending which is a pain when the order process purchase path makes it appear as if it would be instantaneous.
I've been using Contribute on a PC for years. I switched to MAC last August and recently installed a copy of CS5 on trial. It has been working well so I tried to buy the upgrade but it doesn't seem to be plug and play. No serial number shows on the order and my old serial number won't work on the CS5 Trial.
Wondering if I can download Contribute 3 for MAC and will it work with my serial number from 2006?
Anxious to complete a project. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling to refresh the trial but I guess that doesn't work.
Adobe Live Chat agents are unavailble. Previously in a chat session I was advised I could do the upgrade seemlessly and use CS5. Pity I cant/
    Thanks for your help.

Wondering if I can download Contribute 3 for MAC and will it work with my serial number from 2006?
It won't. Serial numbers are platform specific. Well, they were until CS5.5. CS6 handles this differently. For everything else, this still applies: Order an Adobe product platform swap or language swap

  • Still no Graphics upgrade path?

I bought my Macpro 2.66 almost a year ago with the stock 7300 card planning on upgrading to a better card. I didn't take the 512mb card due to all the overheating issues. Here it is a year later and still no upgrade path. A new card finally comes out and it can't be used on Macs that aren't even a year old! I have been a mac user since the G3 models but I am really considering switching to a PC due to the graphics card situation. I called Apple and they basically said there was no upgrade path but hinted that there was a solution. I was told 'I have heard of people putting other cards in them but you have to make sure that the drivers are available'. When pressed to tell me which cards however the rep said "I don't know'. So I was given the distinct impression that there is an upgrade out there but the apple reps aren't allowed to say. Any help for this dilemma would be appreciated. Thanks

I'll go with Kappy on this. But my guess is that they want one card that is universal and supports any Mac Pro. Retrofitting and having two cards with different ROM (EFI32 for us, EFI64 for 2008) would be a nightmare to support.
Who knows? maybe the poor Nvidia 8800 performance has them talking to ATI about something... but pure speculation.
I too hoped that PCI Express would open more doors, not be left with 7300GT or a two year old plus X1900.
To tell the truth, one reason I played around with Vista has been to use a Nvidia 8600 GTS but I still need the 7300 (and no conflict with the two).
See http://www.barefeats.com which has about the best information for now.

  • Switching to Mac

I am switching to Mac :-D and now I have a few questions that someone can help me out with a few iPod/iTune questions.
    1) Will I need to restore my iPod so that it will be able to talk to the Mac. I believe I will but I want to make sure.
    2) I have saved/export my library. However, I am left wondering will I be able to still use that library? Since it's going to have reference to a P:\ drive and following path?
Would it be possible to edit the XML file to reflect the new path? If this is the case I will have a follow up question.
    3) Is there any thing else I should know?
    Thank you

*1) Will I need to restore my iPod so that it will be able to talk to the Mac. I believe I will but I want to make sure.*
Macs can read Windows formatting so you should have no problem connecting your iPod to your Mac. One proviso is that up until now Apple has only fully supported using the iPod shuffle in FAT32 format on Mac (unless the range has been expanded to include the iPhone and the iPod Touch which I've no experience of). What this means effectively is that if you need to apply a firmware update for your iPod and you wanted to maintain the Windows format you would have to do it on a PC. If you were to try and update a Windows based iPod on a Mac it would be restored and reformatted to the Mac file system and have the Mac firmware installed.
*2) I have saved/export my library. However, I am left wondering will I be able to still use that library? Since it's going to have reference to a P:\ drive and following path?*

  • Switching to Mac: MBPr Questions!

    Hey all,
So I've been a Windows user my whole life, but I've finally decided to switch to Mac after witnessing the beauty and grace of the 13" mac book pro retina that my friend just bought. It's astonishing. Plus, there's no better time to switch than when you have a 3 year old HP laptop and are in university.
Since switching to Apple is bloody expensive (nearly double the budget of what I usually spend on laptops), I want to carefully calculate my decision.
I know that the most recent MBP to be released was in October 2013, and it updated to Intel Haswell processors. BUT I also happen to know that Intel Broadwell processors are coming out within the next couple of months, and are said to be around 30% more efficient. Do any of you know if Apple has the tendency to regularly update their MBPs?
The reason I ask is because if there won't be an update to the MBP until October 2014, then I might as well invest in one now, but if there is a chance that a newer model will be released in the coming months, I'll definitely hold out until then!
    Also, another couple of questions:
Without tweaking the MBP (by adding extra ram, processing power, etc...), how well will it run software like Ableton Live, as well as various games such as call of duty?
    Thanks a bunch everyone,
Hopefully I'll also be part of the Mac family soon!

There will always be some kind of upgrade to the macbook pros every year. You shouldn't stress about trying to keep up with technology I have a 13" retina late 2013 and am very happy with it.
I did do some research and found out that  Apple will not release the Broadwell processors until late 2014.
    http://www.tomshardware.com/news/broadwell-to-launch-2h-2014,24765.html
A $300 PS3 can run Call of Duty so of course a $1,000 +Mac will run it just fine. Ableton Live will run great.
If you are going to have lots of apps open, then the 4GB ram on the base model of the 13 inch might not be enough and I would recommend upgrading to 8GB ram or get the mid model 13 inch as it has more storage anyway.
I do not recommend getting the 15 inch as it would cost you over $2,000!

  • Advice on upgrading to SSD for Mac Pro (optimized for AfterEffects & Photoshop)

    Hello,
I'm an animator (I use AfterEffects CS5, but will be upgrading to CC soon) and I'm going to start work on a new AE project in a few months for an animated film that will be very demanding (lots of different shots -- meaning multiple projects, all of which will also incorporate large HD stock footage elements as well as multiple layers of art created in Photoshop).
So I'm looking to upgrade my current desktop Mac Pro (a 2010 2x2.66GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon) with SSD drives (and possibly a new graphics card) in order to speed up my system and optimize it for both AfterEffects and Photoshop. (In the past I've created projects using external 7200 RPM hard drives connected via eSATA). I've also decided, for now, not to purchase the new Mac Pro, but rather try and make a smaller investment to speed up my current system.
I'd love any advice that pro users would have that have made similiar upgrades, both in terms of the best equipment (SSD drives and graphics card) and the best way to set up AfterEffects/Photoshop projects using these SSDs.
    For example:
    1. Should I be purchasing 1 or 2 SSDs, and how should I be using these drives to optimize my system for AfterEffects and Photoshop?
    2. Should I install my operating system (I'm on OS 10.8.5 but plan to upgrade to Mavericks when I upgrade to CC) on one separate SSD, and then install my Adobe applications on a 2nd SSD, or can I put both the operating system and applications on a single SSD? And should I be saving my projects on a SSD (if so, which one, if I'm supposed to purchase 2?
    3. Should I assign a 2nd SSD as a scratch disk for AfterEffects or Photoshop?
    4. I plan on using my current external hard drives (a 12 TB RAID array connected via eSATA) to store the footage and Photoshop elements being used in my AE projects (these files will be multiple GBs, and I can't afford to purchase SSD drives to hold these elements on) and also to store the renders from AfterEffects (which will also be very large files). Is this OK, or will this slow me down and negate whatever speed I've gained from moving to SSDs?
    5. In researching how to switch over to SSD, I've considered purchasing 1 or 2 SSD drives. The one I'm currently looking at is called the Murcury Accelsior_E2, a PCI Express SSD sold via OWC. It comes in a few different sizes (120 GBs, 240 GBs, 480 GBs, 960 GBs). Just wondering if this is a good purchase -- the reviews seem to be very positive:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/SSDPHWE2R960/
    6. I'm also considering upgrading my current graphics card (ATI Radeon HD 5870) to the NVIDIA Quatro 4000 or NVIDIA Quatro 5000, but I'm wondering how much of a speed boost this would give me.
Here's an overview of my current system:
Computer: 2010 Mac Pro with 2x 2.66 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory: 64 GB DDR3 ECC
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 5870
Hard Drives (Internal): 2x 2TB Hitachi HD
Hard Drives (External): 12TB OWC Mercury Elite Pro RAID drive array (connected via eSATA)
Apologies in advance for the long message, but I've always recieved great advice from these message boards and I'd appreciate any help!
    Thanks,
    Dan

Thanks so much for jumping back into the discussion, The hatter! I had some earlier questions from before that I was hoping you could answer:
Currently I own a 12 TB OWC Mercury Elite Pro RAID drive array (connected via eSATA) which I use to save projects, project files, and renders. So (unless I am mistaken) you're recommending that I continue to use this RAID array to save projects, project files, and renders.
(I was looking into purchasing a Mercury Accelsior_E2 for my SSD via PCI -- it has eSATA, so I can continue to connect my RAID array)
Then I would use my new SSD via SATA II for my system, apps, and OS (minus home folder media files, data, documents) and my SSD via PCI for scratch disks for Photoshop/AfterEffects.
Currently I have 2 x 2 TB internal hard drives, which have all my OS + home folder media files.
Can I get more details in terms of the step-by-step instructions when it's time to install/clone? Here's how it looks to me (apologies if I have this out-of-order, and feel free to correct me if I've missed a step or have it wrong -- thank you in advance!):
    1. Purchase SSDs (via PCI and internal SATA II) and install them inside my Mac Pro.
(Is there any formatting I need to do at this point to the SSDs once they are all plugged in...?)
    2. Install TRIM Enabler
(Once it's installed, what do I do with TRIM Enabler? Is it an app that runs 24/7 in the background, or is it an app that I need to launch on a regular basis and perform commands on the SSDs...? Very confused on what TRIM Enabler does.)
    3. Use CCC to clone system from old internal hard drive to new internal SSD drive. When using CCC, deselect media folders in home account before cloning (so I am NOT cloning media folders from old hard drive to new SSD drive).
(What specific media folders should I be deselecting? I'd like to keep my music, movies, iPhoto/Lightroom files, and email archive where they are now -- on the 2 x 2TB internal drives that shipped with my Mac Pro. Is there a link that provides more info on this process? Never used CCC before but I assume it's not too hard to use...?)
    4. CCC clones system gets 'cloned' (minus the media folders) to the SSD that is installed via SATA II in empty internal drive bay inside Mac Pro.
    5. Repair the SSD with DU after cloning and before using and booting from SSD.
(What is DU? How does it work? Not familiar with DU...?)
    6. Reboot computer from system running on SSD.
    7. Open Photoshop/AfterEffects (now running from SSD) and assign new scratch disk (the SSDs on PCIe SSD controller).
    8. After 100% sure that system + apps that have been cloned is working via SSD, delete ONLY system and apps from old hard drive (but do not delete media files).
(Now that my system is on a separate SSD drive, when I do things like purchase new music from iTunes, will it get downloaded to the old location (my old hard drive with all my media)? In other words, are there steps I have to perform in order to relink my media folders now that they're on a separate drive?
    Thanks,
    Dan

Contact Adobe sales or Adobe Customer Service.
You would have to upgrade to CS6 for Mac as a "cross-grade" or platform swap.
They will not allow you to simply swap for CS5 Mac, because CS5 is no longer sold or supported.
You can either upgrade to CS6 Mac by way of platform swap for some $200, or you can join the Cash Cow subscription mode.

  • Nexus 7010 upgrade path

We currently have two Nexus 7010 with 5.0(2a) as system images.
We would need to know the correct upgrade path to 6.1(1). On the release notes it reads the path is from 4.2(8), 5.0(5) or 5.1(6) to 5.2(5) then to 6.1(1).
Also if ISSU is possible or, because we may need to upgrade EPLD, if there is no upgrade path to do a non-disruptive upgrade.

You probably need to dig a little deeper to get a definitive answer (sup1 or 2, type of cards, etc..) but here is a diagram in the release notes for 6.1 found here:
