Upgrade Plug-ins Error, Cannot Open

I am unable to open a file I have worked on on my computer previously. I'm using CS4 6.0.6. When trying to open the file I get the error in the image below.

That's the typical message for a file that was saved in a newer version than the one you are using to open it. You can check the version usiong the script here: Adobe Forums: [Ann] Identify Your InDesign File

  • Upgrade Plug-ins error (Cannot Open File)

I was working on a document in CS3 as a final thesis for my masters work. I was using a Blurb template in order to export the file for printing. In between working on the file, one afternoon I could no longer open the file and was met with the follwing error:
    Cannot Open File
    IMAGE.RPLN
    IMAGE FILTERS.RPLN
    HYPERLINKS.RPLN
    "Cannot open "Masters_book dec.indd".
Please upgrade your plug-ins to their latest
versions, or upgrade to the latest version of
    Adobe InDesign."
I hadn't changed any other files on my computer or ran any updates. I was simply met with the error when I tried launching the application. After trying to run necessary updates I was still met with the same error message. I downloaded the trial version of CS5 on another machine and tried to open it and was once again met with the above error message. I have a back up of the file that I can use but it still represents a lot of lost work if I have to resort to an old file.

I probably shouldn't dwell, on this, but I can get really worked up over it.
I come from the Cosmos and I can assure you we have sent no "Rays" to your puny Earth Planet today!(*)
Since this concerns a CS3 file and I haven't seen posts of others having the same issue, either with CS3 or with any other version, I have to take it as a One-Time Fluke.
I'm pretty firmly convinced this never happens. There are real problems and even if we only see them once, they are happening hundreds and thousands of times and going unreported and undetected, but they are no less real. In fact, because of the reporting bias towards repeatable problems, they are probably causing added frustration and confusion without being detected or fixed properly. So, IMNSHO, we owe a larger duty to pay attention to so-called "unreproducible" bugs.
(You can imagine how well these conversations with Adobe Support go...)
Of course, in this case, it's probably really hard to find the problem. And since it's effectively an end-of-life'd product that is 3 versions behind the released product and at least 4 versions behind the development product, well, it's hard to lose too much sleep over it.
(*) Yes, I know, this incident would not have been "today." Consider it time dilation.

  • Suddenly getting "Missing Plug-Ins" errors when opening .indd files in InDesign CS2

I have a PC running Windows 7 and InDesign CS2. The laptop's installation of Windows was corrupted and I had to re-install the OS. I backed up all files, reinstalled the OS, and then reinstalled applications. One of those applications was InDesign CS2. However, after the installation of CS2 on the fresh copy of Windows, I noticed that I have trouble opening most, but not all, of the InDesign files on my hard drive.
When I try to open a .indd file I see an error message pop up that says "Missing Plug-ins. LILO.APLN, DYNAMICDOCUMENTS.RPLN, CONDITIONALTEXT.RPLN" and three more. Under that list of missing plugins is the warning "This document uses one or more plug-ins which are not currently available on your system. Do you want to open anyway?"  If I click "okay" I then am met with another dialog box that says "Cannot open file. TEXT.RPLN, LAYER.RPLN" and on and on for about 60 more items.
I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE THINKING! I've searched around concerning this issue and it appears the consensus is that the file was opened by a newer version of InDesign. That possibility is, in fact, an impossibility. Never have I used a newer version of InDesign. The files that I am working on were backed up, stored on local storage and not touched once before reinstalling the OS and reinstalling InDesign CS2.
I also noticed that not all InDesign file formats were associated with InDesign in "Windows Programs and Defaults." I changed those to look to InDesign. I've also uninstalled InDesign CS2 and re-installed.
Not all InDesign CS2 files are exhibiting this behavior. So far, it appears more than half are, but some can be opened with no problems. There seems to be no correlation between which ones are able to be opened and which ones can't be opened.
What could have happened to these files and is there any possibility of opened them again? Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Conditional Text was a new feature in CS4. I'm thinking, can you explain how your old CS2 documents became aware of it?
    Not exactly sure myself. Abiogenesis?
    [Edit]
Almost forgot. I wrote a script to unequivocally determine the InDesign version a document was last saved as:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4071273
I'll give that a try today. Even an affirmative judgement that the files are newer than CS2 would not impress me however. The fact remains, the files were copied off one hard drive over to another, the plug was pulled on the hard drive, the PC was re-imaged, CS2 was reinstalled, the files were copied back over... and whammo.

  • After activating "Click-to-play" plug-ins, I cannot open pdf files.

In the latest release of Firefox, information about how to prevent plug-ins from loading automatically was in the release notes. I activated this in about:config. (Click-to-play).
After that, I cannot open pdf files! When I click on a link all I get is an empty window. Reloading page don't help.
What I can do, is to click on the button next to the awesome bar and set that plug-ins will always load automatically for this page. Then the pdf file loads.
Another work around is to copy the link and paste it in IE.
Is this a bug with "click-to-play"?

Thanks cor-el. I have read the various bug reports and it is indeed the same. Has been known for a while...
Anyway, I find no mention of the work-around: "Click on the button next to the awesome bar and set that plug-ins will always load automatically for this page."
I don't know if there is a place to give that feedback.

  • Error regarding plug-ins/won't open - unpackaged file is 4 GB - which is huge

When I open a certain file (which has not had any issues) it gives me an error regarding plug-ins/won't open. The odd part is that the unpackaged file is 4 GB - which is huge. The file also doesn't contain that much information to be that size.

    1. Super appreciate your help.
    2. It is saved on my desktop - there are no .idlk files
    3. I sent the file to another person and they cannot open it
    4. The concern is that it is a 4 GB file - which is not normal for an unpackaged file - does that not seem large? Generally even the most populated of docs is in the MB category
    5. All other files open fine
    6. I copied and pasted under a new name, rebooted a billion times

  • Upgrade Plug-ins?  InD CS4

I have been sent a file that shows as an InDesign CS4 file however when I try to open it I get the message - cannot open, upgrade plug-ins or upgrade to the latest version.
I've had a bit of a look at the different threads and it seems that it may be that it was saved from CS5 perhaps?
Could anyone please advise me in the most simple terms what I should ask the originator to do to send the file in a readable format?
This is an urgent job and if I can't get it open then I will need to advise them asap so that they can find someone else to finalise it for them.
    Thanks in anticipation
    Michelle

    (Tiny addition:)
With software upgrades being released almost annually that are not "backwards compatible"  ...
InDesign is backwards compatible -- up to a point, at least. (The Paragraph Composer, for example, was rewritten for CS3, so editing a pre-CS4 file into a newer version *will* make text re-flow.)
What you meant is "forwards compatible", and that's more than just a minor technical problem. How could the programmers of CS work with footnotes (CS2 and up), or have foreseen GREP styles in CS4, or column spans in CS5? If it was possible to open a CS4 document into CS3, what should happen with the features that Are Not Available in the older version?
I also forgot to point out a feasible (but not really recommended) way of working with newer documents. If your client insists that you work on his file, he could send you an IDML export. It means that at least you get something (as opposed to "nothing at all"), but of course you don't have any guarantees at all you get to see the same file that the client sees in his version. Any of the new features will get Lost in Translation, and you should even carefully check if "the same" things actually work the same -- as per my note on the Paragraph Composer above.

  • How do I upgrade plug-ins in Indesign 5.5 I am not in the cloud?

How do I upgrade plug-ins in Indesign 5.5, I am not in the cloud?

If you are referring to an error when trying to open a file, and you are not already patched to 7.5.3 that is the first thing you need to do.
Then try opening the file again and let us know what the error is.

  • I have just upgraded to Maverick, I cannot open vectorworks 2011 now. please help..

I have just upgraded to Maverick, I cannot open vectorworks 2011 now. please help..

The way I resolved this issue was to create a dual boot Mac, so that I am able to boot from either Mountain Lion or Mavericks. Running Vectorworks in a virtual machine just didn’t cut it.
I had already upgraded to Mavericks, which meant that trying to install OS 10.8.5 as a second operating system produced the error message saying it cannot be installed on this computer.
First, if you need a copy of Mountain Lion installer and you has previously purchased it, open the App Store app, press the option key and then click on the purchases tab. You will see a list of all downloaded software from Apple and you can download OS 10.8.5 again without paying for it a second time. If you had previously created a boot disk of Mountain Lion, which I had not, you can obviously skip this step and the next.
You will need a boot disk for Mountain Lion. After downloading the Mountain Lion installer, the easiest way to create a boot disk is to use a slick little app called DiskMaker X, which you can get here: http://liondiskmaker.com  Next you will need a USB flash drive of at least 8GB in size. Install and run DiskMaker X, plug in your flash drive, and follow the prompts. In just a few clicks, your boot drive will be easily created.
Next, you will need to add a partition on your startup drive on which you will install Mountain Lion. Here is the procedure for creating the new partition: http://macs.about.com/od/applications/ss/diskutilitysize.htm  You can find this at Apple support, but this site gives you additional procedures that may be helpful. I set my new partition at 50 GB, but you can do with less is you don’t have the space.
With those two operations done, and your OS 10.8.5 boot drive plugged in, restart you Mac and press the option key after you hear the chime. You will be asked which drive you wish to start from- select the boot drive. After your Mac boots up, you will see several options- choose install Mountain Lion (actually I think the option is reinstall Mountain Lion).
After completing the OS install, install your copy of Vectorworks, copy and move whatever files you need to from Mavericks, and you are in business. To boot from either OS, simply press the option key and select OS 10.8.5 when you need to work in Vectorkorks, or OS 10.9 for all your other tasks. Switching back and forth isn’t as advantageous as otherwise, but it is the best way to run Vectorworks without upgrading for the $1,500 or so that would be required otherwise.

  • Just installed the latest upgrade for iTunes. Cannot open iTunes store?

Just installed the latest upgrade for iTunes. Cannot open iTunes store?

    Hey there Ray Neilson,
It sounds like you are able to open iTunes but cannot access the store. I recommend the troubleshooting from the article named:
Can't connect to the iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1368
    Troubleshoot issues in Windows
If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store for more than a day (and other customers on our discussion boards aren't experiencing similar issues) a software or Internet service provider (ISP) configuration issue may be blocking your access to the iTunes Store. Find out which ports and servers need to be allowed for iTunes Store access.
Update iTunes to the latest version.
If iTunes Store appears empty and only displays the message iTunes Store, follow these steps.
Try the steps to troubleshoot iTunes Store connectivity in Windows.
As with all firewalls not manufactured by Apple, you may need to configure Windows Firewall to allow iTunes to access the iTunes Store. Follow these steps for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.
Try disabling any proxies built-in to Windows. You should avoid proxies because they can cause issues.
If you're receiving a specific error message, follow these steps.
If the issue still persists, contact your Internet service provider and confirm that these ports and servers are enabled over your network.
Note: The hosts file may be blocking the iTunes Store.Microsoft's article How do I reset the hosts file back to the default? has instructions and a FixIt to have Windows try to reset the hosts defaults for you.Note: Some workplaces may put internal resources in the hosts file and may block iTunes Store. The FixIt doesn't work for Windows 8.To create a copy of your hosts file and replace it with an empty hosts file, follow the instructions below:
You can find the hosts file at: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC.
Select the hosts file. There should now be a duplicate of the hosts file named "Copy of hosts" (Windows XP) or "hosts-copy" (Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8).
Drag the original hosts file to your desktop.
Right-click the duplicate file and choose Open. You may be prompted to choose the program you want to use to open this file. Double-click Notepad.
When Notepad opens, choose Edit > Select All.
    Choose Edit > Delete.
    Choose File > Save.
    Close Notepad.
Right-click the duplicate file, and choose Rename.
Type "hosts" (without quotation marks) and press Enter.
Restart your computer and try connecting to the iTunes Store.
If you still can't connect to the iTunes Store, your security software or firewall may be blocking the ability of iTunes to communicate with the Internet. Learn how to resolve security software issues.

  • Getting error "cannot open" when playing Videos purchased on itunes.

I'm trying to stream videos from my PC to my iPad 2 using the "Videos" app and i keep getting error "cannot open" on any video that I try to play that I purchased through iTunes. Other videos I added that werent purshased through itunes play fine however. Can anyone help with a solution? My iPad is on 5.0.1 if that helps.

I'm getting this error suddenly. I used to be able to stream purchased movies just fine, and now it simply says, "Cannot open." With movies I ripped from my DVDs, they will play just fine, but movies purchased from iTunes give the error every time.
I know I don't have any odd characters in my name like mikesoderstrom had and I haven't changed any account details since the last time it was working a few weeks ago. The only major change I can think of is upgrading to iTunes 11.
My iTunes account says that both my Mac and my Phone are still authorized. Maybe I should try deauthorizing all anyway, but I'd rather not deal with the hassle of re-authorizing, especially if it didn't work for someone who tried it already.
I have no problems with downloading/updating apps, just with Home Sharing purchased movies.

  • Hi how/where do I upgrade plug-ins for InDesign CS6 6.0.6?

    Hi how/where do I upgrade plug-ins for InDesign CS6 6.0.6?

    6.0.6 is CS4, not CS6 (which is version 8).
Why do you need to upgrade plugins? Are you getting an error  message trying to pen a file? That meas the file was saved from a newer version of ID, and you'll need either the newer version, or an IDML file exported from the original. You can't upgrade plugins to make this work.

    I'll be happy for assistance
    thanks
    Yaron

    Hi Yaron,
Does the file stored in local file system or a share folder on remote server? If you can load data from a file in local computer, but cannot load data from a file in a remote computer, the issue may be caused by the Kerberos authentication. In this condition,
    check the following points:
    Enable SQL Server for Kerberos
Check delegation settings for SQL Server service account and Computer
Add Host SPNs for FileShare Server and SQL Server

  • Loosing X ... 'Error: cannot open display: localhost:11.0'

Hello, I hope some may be able to help me finding a solution to this X related problem.
Before Lion everything worked as expected.
    From a terminal I
    ssh -X user@linuxbox
and it work as expected... all the X application come back to my Mac.
but after a while (generaly not long ... about 5 to 10 min)
I cannot launch any X application anymore.
within my Terminal I get "Error: cannot open display: localhost:11.0"
and  on the linuxbox side I get " sshd[xxxx]: channel 4: open failed: administratively prohibited: open failed"
Running 10.7.1. fully updated (from my 10.6.8 Mac I do not have this problem
    ... and never had)
Thanks in advance for your help
    PhS

'arch' is set as the alias for localhost.  I never entered 'arch' anyway, that's just what the error said.
e:  I tried ssh-ing into a X session on another laptop running an Ubuntu live CD.  I can ssh into it normally, but when I run 'xinit -e ssh -XCT [email protected] gnome-session -- :1' it just starts a new X session on ctrl+alt+F8 using my startx file, rather than the one on the other computer.

  • Error "cannot open render.mov"

    Hi
In FCP, Im trying to fix up some audio. Sent the clip to Soundtrack pro (STP) but STP says error "cannot open render.mov"
    any suggestions?
I also tried opening the file directly - eg "open in editor"didn't work
also tried changing the extension to ".wav" which didn't work either.

    Hi
I've got the same difficulty sending clips to Soundtrack Pro in Final Cut Studio 3. This evening, I found a turnaround that works (at least in my case), but that do not explain whether it is a bug or not.
I observed that when I send a clip to STP, two files are created :
    • one looks like a STP package file and contains two small files (among them a render.mov that can be read by QT, showing that it is a sound file)
    • the other has the same name but truncated (only the first 18 letters) and is a video clip.
I put this last video clip inside the STP package, and then it worked : this new package file opens in STP correctly, I can edit the sound tracks, and when I save the file in STP, all changes are made in FCP.
Can you reproduce this on your systems ?
