Upgrade Premiere Pro CS5.5 on PC to CS6 on MAC? Use both at same time?

Can I upgrade from my Premiere Pro CS5.5 on my PC Laptop to CS6 on my new MAC machine?  If so, will I still be able to use my CS5.5 on my PC at the same time as using CS6 on my MAC?
I'd be grateful for your advice and, if this is possible, how to proceed.
Many thanks,
Andrew Kent

What a mess.
I think what Baber is saying is Adobe considers an "Upgrade" purchase from a prior license as an entirely new separate license. That allows you to run the old version license on a different platform from the new "Upgrade" license.
So if you need to run both platforms (Windows and Mac) your options are:
Cloud subscription
Purchase a whole new second license to be able to run the current version on both platforms (what we did)
Wait for an point version update and upgrade going to the other platform. That allows you to run on both Windows and Mac, but one version back on one of the platforms but at a greatly reduced price until the next point upgrade.
Seems pretty convoluted and obtuse. But ..."It is what it is."

  • How can I go from Premiere Pro CS5 to After Effects CS6? (Problem)

    Hi,
I am trying to send my clip from Premiere Pro CS5 to After Effects CS6, but when I right click on the clip, I can't even select the option to send it to After Effects. I can see the option to send it to After Effects, but I just cant select it. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    -Billy

You can do what you want... only going the other way!
You can import a CS5 Premiere Project (in its entirety
or a selected sequence) into CS6 Ae.
    In CS6 Ae:
    File>Import>Adobe Premiere Pro Project...
Navigate to your CS5 Premiere project, double-click
and select 'All Sequences', or your preferred sequence.
As Jim points out, Dynamic Linking will only work
between matching versions of Pr and Ae.

  • Premiere Pro CS5.5 has never started up... error message every time. Help please?

    Hi...
I recently bought the Production Premium CS5.5 suite.
Most of the programs work. (I haven't tried ALL of them. But the main ones -- Photoshop CS5.1 and After Effects -- work flawlessly.)
But Premiere Pro CS5.5.0 doesn't open. Keeps giving me the good old error message: 'Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 has stopped working'. This is happening every time I try to open it. And it never gets past the opening screen. This is MIGHTY frustrating. And there seems to be no coherent advice on the matter anywhere on the Adobe Forums. Might just be that I haven't spotted it.

One problem appears to be that your T901 does not meet the minimum specification for Premiere CS5 - according to the Fujitsu specification sheet, its screen resolution is too low at 1280 x 800 - the minimum required is 1280 x 900.

I already read this but it just solved the probs with premiere.
The Problem in this case was that (so told me the german adobe support hotline) CS5 ist not working with mobile versions of the nvidia quadro 8in this case quadro fx 2500m).
I solved the prolbem by modifying a non-mobile driver. Now, some energy-saving features won't work anymore and it ist not an "offical solution" and it ist on my own risc of course, but it works well so far.
Just follow the steps posted in that link

  • Premiere Pro CS5.5 and H.264/AVC video import issues

    Hello!
I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and using Premiere Pro CS5.5.
I record HD videos using a Canon EOS 7D in .mov format. I don't have any issues importing these files to Premiere, but I do have problems with the convered equivalents. I'm currently using AVS Video Converter 7 to convert the original files to .AVI files.
The main difference between the two versions (original and converted) is the bitrate and audio codec, but Premiere only imports audio when I drag the .avi file to it. What strikes me dumb is that a poor editor like Camtasia Studio has no problems reading the files (both the audio and video track), but Premiere does.
I also have the MainConcept Codec Suite, but that doesn't help.
Can someone please give me a better solution than telling me to convert the converted videos back to a format supported by Premiere? I would prefere jugling with codecs and make it work rather than spending time converting videos back and forth.
Intel Core i7 920, 12GB RAM, nVidia GeForce GTX 295.
    Thank you!

    @Jim Simon
I have 7D footage on my hard dive right now.  4.5 minutes takes up
about 660MB.  Which is right in line with AVCHD running at 12 to 13 GB
    per hour.
I don't know what kind of footage you got, but I download recordings from it daily and I think that entitles me to say I know better. Maybe what you've got isn't original 7D HD footage.
As for the solution...what I'm saying is that the "best
practice" IS the solution.  You're creating a problem by not following
the best practice.  If you follow that best practice, you will stop
    creating the problem.
I already have problems. To be more specific, I'm not looking for future advice, but for ways of solving the problems I currently have. Telling me what to do from now on won't help me import and use in Premiere the already compressed files.
    @banzemanga
Well, nothing will be resolved by complaining about it.
What you should be doing is to request this feature.
I'm not complaining as much as I'm saying Premiere is really PRO.
However, i am curious why MainConcept Codec Suite can't import your file.
Have you tried using a different video container differnt than *.avi?
Yes, I have tried a dozen, but to no avail.
    @shooternz
Most people using Premiere want to maintain high quality...not throw it away by using converters.
I'm using native files too, it's just that I don't keep them that way for years.
Editing native is seen by most to be a huge PLUS!
    Yes, I would say CPU-wise.
Later in the evening I have found what seems to be the best solution to my issue.
AVS Video ReMaker and MainConcept can do wonders together when it comes to importing compressed files to Premiere PRO. AVS Video ReMaker's MP4 export almost instantly converts files with no quality loss and very close to the source file's size, and these MP4 files are recognized as native clips in Premiere (with stereo audio track and clean responsive video) thanks to MainConcept. It is excellent! The only downside is that the CPU gets more stressed (about 20-30% more of a Core i7 920), but the compressed video runs smooth (HD@50fps), needs no rendering and takes the same ammount of space as the source compressed file.

  • Premiere Pro CS5 unstable on (two) Macs - Help!

We've had Premiere Pro CS5 for a while and have tried using it a lot over the months.  The problem is it's not very stable on either of out Macs so we keep going back to FCP7 for major projects.
Given Apple's recent discontinuation of support for pro video apps issues (I can't wait for FCPX to mature) and the massive transcoding delays we're currently facing in order to use FCP7 I'd really like to get Premiere Pro CS5 (5.0.3) to a place where we can use it day-in-day-out and be able to rely on it.   I can accept that software occasionally crashes - but that's not where we're at.  It crashes 10 times a day!
    System 1:
    Mac Pro - 8 core 16GB Ram, 4xSATA HDDs (1 boot 3xRAID), ATI 5770, 30" main monitor, 23" second monitor
Software installed includes Production Premium (5.0.3), Final Cut Studio (FCP7, Motion 4 etc), Lightroom 3, Aperture 3]
    Snow Leopard 10.6.7 (fully updated)
    System 2:
iMac 27" i7 Quad, 12GB Ram, 1 SATA drive, external Firewire Drives, ATI 5770, 24" second monitor.
Software installed includes Production Premium (5.0.3), Final Cut Studio (FCP7, Motion 4 etc)
    Snow Leopard 10.6.7 (fully updated)
    Just some simple stuff....
If I ever touch the handle to move a window while playing - it crashes.
    Multicam crashes.
Moving clips on the sequence - sometimes crashes
Right clip and remove filters - crashes most of the time
Using the Colorista II plugin - if PPro tries to auto save a project while using the plugin - it crashes
These are just a few examples.   It crashes a LOT.
So, are there any known incompatibilities between software installations?  The iMac was a clean install not that long back.
Are there any known compatibility issues with these sets of hardware?  If so, what?  How do I fix them?
PPro also crashed when I had the older ATI card in the Mac Pro.
    HELP!

I'm prohibited from saying exactly---in case something goes wrong and we need to change it---but it will be very, very soon.
    > I see CS5.5 trial can now run with all the codecs.  If I download this
will it run side by side with 5.0.3 on my system for 30 days while I
    evaluate it?
Yes, the trial version is made to run just fine on a system that has the previous version on it.

  • Upgrading from Premiere Pro CS5.5 to CS6

I have Premiere Pro CS5.5 as part of Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 Production Premium.  I just purchased Premiere Pro CS6 upgrade but when I try to register I select Premiere Pro CS5.5 as my qualifying product upgrade and enter the SN from Creative Suite 5.5 Production Premium that contained PP5.5 but I get the message that I need a qualifying product.
I would think it would recognize that I have PP CS5.5.  Should I have upgraded to Adobe Creative Suite 6 instead of just upgrading Premiere Pro?

    What Mylenium said.
    http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/faq.html#purchasing-policy
"Am I eligible for upgrade pricing from a previous Creative Suite edition to a standalone CS component?
No. You cannot upgrade from a Creative Suite edition to an individual CS component. To confirm your options and learn about the requirements for upgrades, check the upgrade eligibility chart on the buying guide page of the product you wish to purchase."

  • Premiere Pro CS5.5 Upgrade is Downloaded and Installed, but 5.0 Isn't Updating

Hi there. I may be missing something very simple here, but here goes: I already have Premiere Pro CS5 on my system, and I just purchased, downloaded and installed the 5.5 upgrade a little while ago, but CS5 isn't upgrading. It's still opening as Version 5.0.3.
It didn't ask me for my serial number at installation, which made me think it found what it was upgrading, and I've tried restarting, but to no avail.
Any help is much appreciated. Am I missing a step?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Premiere pro CS5 and Premiere Pro CS5.5 are installed as seperate programs.
So Premiere Pro cs5.5 might have installed as a seperate program.
Check the all program list for the same.

  • Has anyone tested Premiere Pro CS5, CS5.5, or CS6 in Windows 8?

Hi all.  I was curious if anyone has tested Premiere Pro CS5, CS5.5, or CS6 in Windows 8 RTM (MSDN)?  Does CS5 install and run without problem?  I am planning on getting a new system, but don't know if order it with 7 or 8.  Thanks for any input on the matter.

I have been running on Windows 8 and 8.1 the CS6 suite for a while also. And by the way, capture via firewire does work. Legacy drivers are unnecessary with Windows 8 or 8.1. I have captured from VHS tapes, etc. using the IEEE 1394 port.

  • Adobe Audition CS5.5 with Premiere Pro CS5

    Hello everybody.
I am considering downgrading from Master Collection CS5 to Adobe Production Premium CS5.5
But quite frankly it's just because of one application.
Though, i am in doubt if i'll actually going to make the downgrade.
And as you could and might have guessed it is the Adobe Audition CS5.5 Application.
Though really the whole pack has a GREAT improvement overall, I just actaully want to mix SEAMLESSLY with Premiere Pro and sound editing application (Audition).
Which leads me to my next question.
Now with Adobe Soundbooth CS5 closed off (by April 24th), and an UPGRADE for Soundbooth CS5 users to Audition CS5. Does this mean that Audition CS5.5 works SEAMLESSLY with Premiere Pro CS5?
Is there a dynamic link between the two applications? (Audition CS5.5 and Premiere Pro CS5)
AM i able to send mixes between the two? I really don't want to loose any Audio data, such as 5.1 channel mapping, volume mixing, denoising, general mixing etc.
All i really need is some good quality sound editing which works seamless, as After Effects and Premiere Pro has proved to me can be done.
Just want to know if it is possible. Or if I REALLY have to upgrade in order to get the sweet apples.
    Best

    Hi _durin_
    Thanks for your quick response.
But I didn't quite understand your answer.
I have seen Jason Levine's video earlier, as CS5.5 was announced and it looks natively good. I understand the mixdown attributes etc.
Please correct me if im wrong HOWEVER this workflow and settings applies still to ONLY the new CS5.5 Version?
Im currently using Master Collection CS5.
Instead of getting either the Production Premium, or Master Collection I am strongly considering updating Soundbooth CS5 to Audition CS5.5 (the option is there as i can tell by SoundBooth's website, though i get a weird error message when I click the update link...)
However I need to know, IF Audition CS5.5 works well with the PREVIOUS version (that'll be CS5 not 5.5), of Premiere Pro.
Are there an option to render the reference video, and generate a interchange session from WITHIN Premiere Pro CS5 to Audition CS5.5?
Im sorry if I either sound harsh or "willingly" misunderstanding. But I have only documentation on how the integration works between the current versions (meaning 5.5).
Im as you can guess VERY confused over the move from Adobe to make a .5 version instead of a full-fledged CS6 solution. It causes a stir, cause I then don't know much of the integration between the previous applications.
I have seen as an example that Photoshop CS5 have gotten the update to receive paintings/files made with their new touch API. So I wonder whether integrational features will be a part of the CS5 pack since, as i've mentioned, an application like Soundbooth gets replaced with Audition, with an upgrade option for the Soundbooth owners.
Im confused and hope you can help me clear my mind up, whether to upgrade or not. I will download the trial eventually, but not onto my current CS5 system since I already use this in my daily video work and want to AVOID confusion.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 for Mac problem

I have recently bought Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 as an upgrade (for Mac) and after I enter the serial number during installation it asks me for a serial number of a qualifying product, listing three: Premiere Elements 4, 7 or 8. I only have Premiere Elements 9. I would be happy to buy the aforementioned products except several sources suggest that PE8 was never produced for Mac. Any ideas of what I can do?

Return it. CS5 has not been sold for more than 1 year. Instead get CS6.

  • Where do I get my updates for Adobe Premiere Pro CS5  V5.0.4?

I purchased Premiere Pro CS5 for around £800.00 and have been collecting clips for some time.  I now wish to create my final editing and am unable to get updates.  Please advise me.
    Thank you
    Bushtail

Thank you Ann, the link is one Itried before and which always returns advice that the update will not be incorporated in the application! It seems that I already have the latest possible update (5.0.4)  so have since asked to upgrade from CS5 to CS6 but as the upgrade will cost an additional $349 above the original purchase price I cannot afford to spend the money on my income as I only use the application for family films, Grandchildren mostly, but thank you for contacting me with the advice.

  • I had to re-install Premiere Pro CS5 and now video are files acting funny...

Hello. I had to reformat my system drive and did a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and then I did an anytime upgrade to Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. I then re-installed Premiere Pro CS5. Here's the problem. When I open any of my projects that I worked on BEFORE I re-installed Premiere (when I was using Windows 7 Home Premium), the video files on the timeline all look corrupted when I play the timeline now. They have these weird block artifacts and also a constant pulsing thing going on. I deleted all the media cache files and all the media cache database files but, nothing changed even though Premiere conformed every single video file in the project again. Then, I went to "Sequence" and hit "Render Entire Work Area" and after Premiere was finished rendering, I noticed the artifacts and pulsing are completely gone BUT, the video files look like a VHS tape that has been recorded over a few times. The edges of people and things in focus aren't nice and sharp like they were before I re-installed Premiere. I DO NOT have the time or patience to have to delete all the video files and import them again into the project and re-edit the entire scene! Can someone please help me resolve this problem?! I am about done with Premiere!
Is there a way to delete the video source files that are on the left side of the timeline (next to the "Source" window, where they got imported into the project) without deleting the edited video files on the timeline and then re-import the same source video files into the project, kind of like "refreshing" the video files? If this is possible, it seems like this would fix the problem without me having to re-edit everything again.
*Update*  My idea of just re-importing the source video clip won't work either. I deleted one of the source video clips, which deleted its reference clip on the timeline, and I re-imported the video source clip to see if it would play all weird in Premiere and sure enough, it has the same exact block artifacts and pulsing effect like all the other source clips in the project. It seems that if that's the case, it might be a codec problem. But, that doesn't make sense because if I open the clip on my hard drive with Windows Media Player or Allplayer, the clips plays perfectly fine and looks like it is supposed to. So, it must be a codec problem in Premiere??? Could it be that Premiere Pro CS5 doesn't work well with Windows 7 Professional? I find that hard to believe. Can someone please help me?
By the way, all the video clips in the project are from my Panasonic GH1 or my Panasonic GH2. They are all 1080p/24 AVCHD. I even made a new sequence within the same project making sure the sequence settings are AVCHD 1080p 24 and still nothing is fixed.

Have you tried exporting a 10 second section of the footage to see if the issue shows up once the seqeunce is actually exported from the timeline. I edit on CS5 with windows 7 pro at work quite often and have no issues so I assure you that isn't the issue. I also edit with AVCHD footage when at home and work quite freqeuntly as well so I'm positive that isn't the issue. It sounds like a GPU driver has been corrupted in the way it interacts with premiere pro. What type of GPU do you have? If it supports MPE's GPU acceleration have you tried turning it off and seeing if that makes any difference?
Anyways though try to export a 10 second test section of your timeline to see if when the clip is exported from premiere it will play normally in windows media player or vlc or w/e media player you want to use. If it exports fine then you can almost be positive it's a corrupted video card driver. If that's the case I'd re-install your GPU's driver and also check your gpu makers website to see if they have a updated driver avaiable.
