Upgrade Price Differentials - Justification?

The price to upgrade CS3 Design Suite to CS6 on the Australian store is over $1000. To do the same upgrade on the US Store is about $700. The currencies have been at parity for over 6 months so this represents at least a 30% markup over the US price for a downloaded product. Australia has a 10% GST so that still leaves at least a 20% price gouge for Australian customers. Discuss.

Not sure what you mean here.
If you upgrade your phone after the 20 month point of a 2yr contract, you are eligible for a discounted price for a phone in return for signing a new 2yr contract.
If your current contract was signed on or before Jan 15, 2011, you may also be eligible for these same discounted prices after the 1yr point of a 2yr contract, depending on your price plan. This is not available for contracts signed after Jan 15, 2011.
If your current contract was signed on or before Jan 15, 2011, you may also be eligible for a New Every Two credit of either $30/$50/$100 IN ADDITION to the discounted price for a phone in return for signing a new 2yr contract, depending on your price plan and when you signed your last contract.

Same here, I have Logic Studio 8 and wouldn't mind staying with that version, except that the installer won't run on my new Macbook Pro as PowerPC apps are no longer supported. That's the message I get in any case.
I use to run Logic on a 2006 Macbook Pro.
I guess that makes me a very unhappy Apple user! I've been using Logic from the Emagic days, bought every upgrade only to see Apple kill what used to be one of the best Pro Audio application. Imagine if they had done the same to Photoshop, there would be a lot of unhappy designers out there
Paying the full price for years to slowly see your daily app go down in price & efficiency until it's given away at $199 for semi pro users. Well, at least ProTools is stil alive & kicking so I guess that's the way forward now.
This is coming from someone that never ever used a Windows machine to make music! Life is good still!

  • Has anyone had any luck viewing upgrade prices on devices on myverizon before their upgrade date?

I have a single line account whose upgrade date is tomorrow, 8/30/2013, yet when I go to the upgrade my device option on Myverizon, all I can see in the way of device prices are full retail prices...no discounted prices or free phones for contract extensions. I did a live chat with a customer service rep who told me it was because 'prices are always changing." Why then, can I see the upgrade prices/deals on OTHER companies websites (ie bestbuy.com & samsclub.com)?? Don't their prices change as well?
My sister, who is also a Verizon customer has a family plan with 5 lines. She was able to see upgrade prices on TWO of her lines a week before their eligible upgrade dates AND upgraded early. Perhaps because she has 5 lines and pays a bigger bill she gets better service than I do?
I've been a customer since LA Cellular, who sold to Airtouch (back in the mid 1990's) who then sold to Verizon...I've had the same phone # and provider for close to 18 years and feel that this is not a great way to treat any customer. The same thing happened to me when I upgraded in 2011. I actually ended up upgrading with Best Buy almost a week before my upgrade date. I didn't want to do that this time, because I had technical issues with my phone and had to get a new one (through Best Buy's warranty...Verizon wouldn't honor the manufacturer warranty because I did not buy the phone from them) Best Buy & Verizon screwed up my data plan, causing me to lose 2 GB of data each month. ( I was on promotional 4GB of data for price of 2 GB, which did not get translated between Best Buy & Verizon when my phone was replaced.
Has anyone else ever been able to view their upgrade prices on myverizon before their actual upgrade date? It's a moot point for me after tomorrow, but I plan to complain to their corporate customer service and any additional ammunition would be very helpful.

Because you're not yet eligible for upgrade.  View the devices while not signed in and it will show 2 yr pricing by default.

  • APPLE: We Need An Upgrade Price for Logic Pro X!!!

There has always been an Upgrade path for Logic Pro. Where is it???

I've been using Logic since it was Notator 2.5 as well, upgrading every time, and I have absolutely NO PROBLEM with their being no upgrade price.
    Reasons?
    1. Even at the full price, Logic X is cheaper than any ProTools upgrade price.
    2. It is a ridiculously powerful piece of software which can do things I was only dreaming of being able to do 20 years ago. Frankly I think $200/£139 is astonishingly good value for what it can do.
Perhaps people should stop convincing themselves that software manufacturers somehow 'owe them'  just because they're long-term users? Apple has delivered a  piece of professional level software at a remarkable price - for that I'm actually pretty thankful!
Nobody ever said doing professional quality audio was cheap.

  • CS6 worth $200 upgrade price?

Faced with a decision here. I've been quite happy with PS CS 5 on my Mac Pro. I will never make the move to "Creative Cloud," because I find the concept of paying a monthly rental for software offensive. I'm wondering if CS6 offers any compelling new features or improvements that I would actually use and appreciate? It's not like I have $200 burning a hole in my pocket that I'm dying to spend, but if CS6 were appreciably better in real world usage scenarios, I would probably buy it. What are your favorite CS6 improvements and new features? It it worth the upgrade price, in your opinion?

I am in the same position as you, Gary, and feel the same way about CC. I was not planning on upgrading from my CS5.1 until CS7 came out in a year. Surprise.
So not trusting anything Adobe says any longer, I upgraded last week to CS6, moaning the whole way having to spend $209 now instead of in a year when I could have received more features. I took a few online tutorials on "What's new in CS6" on Adobe TV and YouTube to get up to speed.
I must admit that I am now glad I upgraded. I use ACR, so the more intuitive interface and quality improvements were a big plus. If you are planning to begin RAW processing, ACR 7.4 in CS6 will be easier for you to operate with more predictable results.
The new interface options are interesting. Being used to CS5, I didn't like the darker GUI. But after a while, I noticed that the panels on my palette monitor were less distracting while looking at my image on the main monitor -- with a dual monitor setup. So I left it on the default dark gray. You have five total choices in Preferences under "Interface."
Most impressive for me was the Content-Aware Patch Tool and the Content-Aware Move Tool with the "Adaptation" settings to better control what PS does in the process. They work very well. It's also nice to have the Lighting Effects Filter is back, and it works much faster than in CS4. The Liquefy Filter and Puppet Warp is a lot faster. Then there are quite a few small improvements scattered through-out that just make the editing experience more enjoyable. The Filter Menu has been simplified and is easier to use. Some things are not new, they just work better. It's like Adobe did catch-up on the minor gripes users have had for the last two versions.
A few things I don't care for is separating out the Adjustment Panel function with the new Properties Panel. I may be missing something here but is seems unnecessary. There is an extra row of icons at the top of the Layers Panel that I'm still trying to determine if they are worth the space. Seems like it provides a few short-cuts for power-users. The Crop Tool works a little differently, but after using for a while I like it better than in CS5. So far, no bugs have come up. I'm hoping that since CS6 made it to 13.0.4 before Adobe pulled the plug that it is fairly stable.
    Hope this helps.

  • THIS is why there is no upgrade price for Logic Pro X

Because it's time for people stop stop convincing themselves that software manufacturers somehow 'owe them', just because they've used previous versions.
I've been using Logic in its various forms since 1995 - that's 18 years, kids - upgrading every time, and I have absolutely NO PROBLEM with their being no upgrade price.
    Reasons?
    1. At the full price, Logic X is markedly cheaper than any ProTools upgrade.
    2. It is a very powerful piece of software which can do things I could only dream of being able to do - or afford to do - for many, many years.*
Apple has delivered a piece of powerful, professional level audio production software at the remarkable price of just $200/£139.
Just two days ago people were grizzling about "We haven't seen an upgrade to Logic for years. Has Apple forgotten about it?" Well here it is. And you're still moaning!
Nobody ever said doing professional quality audio was cheap, so for goodness sake let's stop the pathetic 'world owes me a living' snivelling.
If you think it's too much, take up knitting, train spotting/railfanning or something.
No connection with Apple, just a longterm user who  remembers 'the bad old days' only too well and hates the constant whinging about everything!!
    * How many of the moaners actually remember splicing tape or endless analogue bounces to get just 16 or 20 tracks, noticeably losing quality every time?

    Dave Woof wrote:
Absolutely - I've posted the text below in a couple of other threads, but it serves to reinforce your point....
The full price of Logic Pro was reduced during the life of Logic Pro 9 to be only a fraction of the original price.  Thus, the full price today is still cheaper than the old model for upgrade prices.  Net result - just buying the new version when one comes out (e.g. Logic Pro X) costs about the same, if not less than upgrades did in the past, but with the added bonus that if you're a new customer, you pay a far cheaper price first time round.
    Everyone's a winner!
Logic Pro used to cost... $999  After Apple purchased it the price was reduced to $499, once it moved to the App Store the price was reduced to 1/5th of it's original cost at $199... so yes, stop the silly complaining.
I've invested thousands in Logic over the years.
However, I can look at it from a different perspective:
The price whining is a natural development from Apple removing the copy protection, reducing the price and promoting Logic as and upgrade to Garageband. You now have a whole new group of users, many who have never used a DAW and have little respect for the development of this software through the years or the things we used to do as engineers/musicians.... To amateurs the $199 upgrade price is ridiculously expensive to the "entitled" attitudes prevalent today. The fact that Apple isn't offering this upgrade at $50 is reason for storming the gates.
So, place the blame for the whining not so much on the users but on Apple for setting up the conditions that made it possible.

  • Stolen phone, is it possible to purchase a replacement at the upgrade price?

I purchased an iPhone 5 about 2 mo's ago, upgrading from my iPhone 3 (the new phone cost $200).
The phone was stolen from a gym locker about a week ago; I shut it down with AT&T and have had Apple lock it if it's connected to the internet. I didn't have any insurance on it (of course!)
Is it possible to get a replacement phone for the upgrade price, instead of paying $600! Seems that the phone is worthless now, since it's locked and deactivated, but I'm stuck with the remainder of the 2 yr contract! Obviously I'm not looking for a free phone, I just don't want to pay the full $600 since I'm paying AT&T every month fror the contractas it is....
    Any advice?
    Thanks!
    Alan.

You would need to ask AT&T what they will sell the phone to you for. Sometimes carriers will sell you preowned phones.

  • System not calculating as mentioned in the price differentials multipliers

    Dear Folks,
We are using contingent worker functionality in R12.1.3.
    1) For example,we have a PO with line type as rated based temporary labour, UOM as "HR" , unit price as 100 and total amount is 100000.
    2) Mentioned multipliers in PO for price differentials as Holiday as 2 and Overtime as 1.5.
    3) In general working hours in a day is 8 hrs.The calendar defined in the system with Mon-Fri as working days.
    4) Timecard entered in OTL with Sunday as '8' hrs, Monday as '10' hrs.
    5) Whereas system need to calculate as for Sunday 8hrs=>8*100*2=1600 and for Monday =>10hrs=(8*100)+2*100*1.5=1100 in total need to show as 2700.
    6) And those time card details interfaced from OTL to purchasing and it shows as received with an amount of 1800 as received in the PO shipments under more tab.
System does not calculated as per mentioned price differential multipliers.
    Am i missing any setup?
Any help will be highly appreciated
    Regards,
    Sri.

Please someone help...I am stuck on this at some place or the other and now finally at this place when I thought that everything is well:(

  • Is there a deadline to get the $79 upgrade price for LR4?

I'm currently running LR3.6, but its on a 4+ year old HP Pavilion with an AMD Althlon 64 X2 running WinXP.  Obviously I need to upgrade to Windows7 before upgrading to LR4, but from what I'm reading, I need to upgrade my hardware too (its past time anyway).  Unfortunately, its probably going to be a few months before I'll be able to spring for a new machine, so I'm wondering if there is a deadline to get the $79 upgrade price for LR4.  If so, I might need to buy it before the deadline, even though I don't have a machine I can run it on yet.

No, the $79 price for the upgrqade is based on the new pricing of LR4...aside from some sort of special promo at some point in the future, I'm pretty sure the new price is the normal price.

  • Upgrade Price Speculations Production Premium CS5.5 to CS6?

Anyone have an idea of the cost to upgrade from Production Premium CS5.5 to CS6?  Right now you can buy the updgrade from CS5 to CS5.5 for $399 + 10% off until the 15th.  If you buy the CS5 to CS5.5 upgrade now, you get CS6 for free.  Wonder if buying the CS5 to CS5.5 upgrade with a free copy of CS6 for $360 will be cheaper than the CS5.5 to CS6 upgrade.  If you are still on CS5, seems like a not brainer.  Thoughts?

Yes, maybe...maybe not? Who knows? Well...besides Adobe. And maybe Dave, but he's not interested in discussing anything today. And this is really more appropriate to the Lounge anyway.
BUT - I like your question, and I want to try to give you some advice if I can so here goes.
You're likely to see that the upgrade price for the boxed/download version of Production Premium CS6 isn't much different than what you're seeing now for the intermediate "upgrade now, save later" type offers.
For me, I'm holding on to see what the final pricing and layout is for Creative Cloud. Probably looking at that costing me a bit more over the short run based on my current Adobe purchasing history, but there's supposed to be quite a bit of extra goodness in there so probably worthwhile.
If you have a money back guarantee wherever you're purchasing, you can always buy now, don't open it, then return it in a week or so if pricing is announced and it makes a difference.
If you think you'd have a use for the Creative Cloud, you may want to wait. The preliminary pricing listed by Adobe is $49/month for annual subscribers. Maybe it'll be discounted for 1-year if you already own CS5 or CS5.5 versions of one of the suites. Dunno. Probably more info within the next 7 days.

  • Upgrade price to CS6?

I purchased Photoshop CS5 Extended (Student & Teacher edition) in September 2011 and I'm interested in upgrading to CS6 when it comes out. I know that recent purchases have a free upgrade to CS6 (I bought Dreamweaver during this recent timeframe that will be upgraded), but I can't seem to find anywhere an upgrade price for Student and Teacher editions. I'm curious to know what the upgrade or discount price would be to get CS6 as a student, since it seems ridiculous to pay for another full student/teacher version for something I've only had for such a short time. If there isn't a student upgrade price to CS6, is there any way I could take my Dreamweaver upgrade and put it towards a Photoshop upgrade instead?
    Thank you.

    That's right.
There's been a (low key) shift in purchasing policy from earlier CS versions.
The standalone product > Suite upgrade path has been removed.
    From the CS6 FAQ
    http://www.adobe.com/au/products/photoshop/faq.html
What is Adobe's upgrade policy for Creative Suite 6?
Adobe allows upgrades to CS6 individual products and suite editions from one version back (which in this case is CS5 and CS5.5, due to the interim CS5.5 release). For example, if you have a validly licensed copy of Photoshop CS5, you can upgrade to Photoshop CS6 at the upgrade price. Owners of individual products are not eligible to upgrade to suite editions.
    http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/faq.html#purchasing-policy
What is Adobe's upgrade policy for Creative Suite 6?
Owners of a CS5 or CS5.5 suite edition qualify for upgrade pricing to a CS6 suite edition. Owners of an individual CS5 or CS5.5 product qualify for upgrade pricing to the same product but not to a suite edition. Any version earlier than CS5 will not be eligible for upgrade pricing.

  • CS4 Web Premium Upgrade Price Seems Unfair

We own CS2, Macromedia Studio 8 and we have the CS3 Web Premium. The upgrade price to CS4 Web Premium is $599. This is the same price for someone upgrading from Studio 8 or CS2 Premium. What about the people who have bought each upgrade (not counting CS3.3) This upgrade price seems way to high. Just my two cents.

Are you complaining that it is too high, or that there should be different tiers of upgrades?
Adobe's policy has always been that you can upgrade from any of the last three versions. It is my understanding that this will be changing soon, and people who have upgraded more recently DO get a lower price. I believe the price to go from CS2 to CS4 will be $799 sometime next year. Since this is a new policy, they are giving people a few months to buy under the old policy.
If anything, this is the fairest thing I've ever seen a corporation do. They are making a policy more fair, while still not hurting the people who didn't know the change was coming.
That said, I do agree $599 is a bit steep for someone who just upgraded recently, especially for the Web package. The upgrade to CS3 Production Premium was $799, where the CS4 upgrade is $599...that seems fair to me (though they dropped Ultra from the package.) However, the CS3 Web Premium upgrade was $599 (or was it $499?) It does seem out of wack price-wise. The fact that Design Premium now includes Fireworks makes the Web Premium price even less attractive.
In your particular situation, it sounds to me like you have FULL licenses for CS2 AND Studio 8, and then an upgrade to CS3 Web. Basically, you have at least one license you aren't using (unless you're using it on another computer.) My advice would be to sell your CS2 or Studio 8 license, whichever is worth more these days. When I upgraded to CS3 Web Premium, I owned both Studio MX 2004 AND CS2 Premium licenses. I sold the CS2 license, and it almost paid for my Studio MX to CS3 Web upgrade.

  • Upgrade price for logic X from logic 9

    Hi guys.
I just Bought Logic 9 3 Months ago.
Since i knew where were no news about logic x, no release date or such i expected it to be out at least a year from the time i'd buy it.
Now the new version came out of the blue and i just realized that i threw my money for nothing.
Because of this i think i deserve to get the new logic for free or at least a decent discount price on it.
is there a mail or something that i could contact someone from apple?
    Thanks in advance.
    Alex.

    Fuzz...
I would use the above links to try v.s. MAS feedback.
Try explaining that you just bought it (if you did), the window of time will be key here.
This is how all things work in our economy/market, you woudln't buy a new Car then 2 months later the new model comes out, and go screaming at them for a refund or upgrade. It's just business. If LX hadn't just came out, would you still want your money back for L9? Does it not perform the job/function you bought it for?
The absolute best thing, especially in the world of computers/software, is to research the release history, comments/opinions and so forth, and you can generally get an idea of a new version/products surfacing. Example: Logic X this year was a no-brainer by using Wikipedia, Macrumors, Comments from Apple themselves etc.
As for demanding your rights, you absolutley can demand and will/should have that respect from Apple, read the licenesing and purchasing info, I'm sure your rights haven't been violated, but If they have, then you have an easy case, simply document them and discuss with Apple (provide clear precise docuementation and be professional). Again, if they haven't been violated, then you need to approach it differently (IMHO).
Please don't let the shiny new object obscure your vision, there will be a long road of patches/updates, plugins that are only 32bit being converted to 64bit etc. etc. etc. Honestly, you might want to really look at keeping 9.x for that possibly ugly transition. While 9 still has issues lingering, it's very very stable and training, books, etc. exist right now. However, with that being said, if you don't have any 32bit plugs, you purchased 9 within a resonable timeframe before X came out, then yes, I would agree, try to get the new one.
Example: A few months ago, I purchased the iRig Mini Keyboard while under the special where the more people buy, the more software you get. I got all the iK VI's!!! However, with LX, I can't use any of them. Thankfully, I have L9! There is work in progress to bring iK's SampleTank 3 out soon as 64bit, which will supposedly be able to read all the others sounds etc., but.....progress can be a pain. This is why I decided NOT to purchase LX until I see the updated plugs and at least the 1st patch from Apple, until then I can happily keep playing/tracking my VI's etc. I'm not saying this is your case too, just saying from my perspective.
As for upgrade price: IMHO, the main folks that should get that are the ones that purchased the boxed copies of 9 studio, I know people that purchased it for $500.00 just before MAS released it for $199.00, this was the real kick in the *****. The normal past upgrade pricing was $99.00 (i think) from one to another, maybe that's the key here?
Anyway, that's just my two cents.
    HTH

  • How do I both subscribe at the CS6 owner's upgrade price plus get a 1 year prepaid subscription?

Adobe only seems to offer month by month deductions from my credit card and retailers don't seem to sell prepaid cards at the CS6 owner's upgrade price. How do I both subscribe at the CS6 owner's upgrade price plus get a 1 year prepaid subscription?

Thanks, Biggles. I suppose I didn't ask the question correctly.
I'm not so much desperate for CC as much as I want to give it a good trial. I have done the free trial for 30 days and the things I need to work do work and I'm pretty pleased with the way it functions.  As a CS6 owner, I get a discounted price on CC for one year ($19.99). I want to use that cheaper year to try out CC even more to see if it functions well (or not) over a longer time.
If I order it directly from Adobe, I can take advantage of the discounted price but it looks like I have to have my credit card deducted once a month for the year. I'd rather pay the whole year's subscription at once and up front.  If I order it through a reseller (Staples, Amazon, etc.) it looks like I can buy a pre-paid card for the whole year but I don't see how I can buy one for the discounted price that I qualify for (they only sell them for the full $49.99/month price).
I'm wondering if there's a way to pre-pay for the whole year at the discounted price that I qualify for.
