Upgrade problems with shared music and airport

I recently upgraded my itunes to v 6.0.3 and now I can no longer see shared music on my network (although people can see my music). I also can't see the option to connect to remote speakers through the airport. I have tried the obvious stuff (e.g. reinstalling, restarting, checking and unchecking shared music and airport preferences) but have had no luck. Any suggestions? This is beginning to drive me nuts...

hey guys, i'm having a problem with the podcast and music on my iPod. i don't know why all my podcast is showing up in my music folder. is that anyway that i can correct that problem?
i just want to hear my music randomly without listening to any of my podcast at all.

Problem with lacie HD and airport extreme need help!!

Let me first off tell you what my set up is powerbook with the latest 10.4 os, airport extreme software up to date, a Lacie 500gb usb hard disk connected to the airport extreme, i've got an apple TV connected to the extreme via ethernet, I also have a macbook pro using the airport.
The problem i've got is the powerbook is the main hub between the external hard disk and the apple tv but it's started to not hold a connection to the lacie i keep having to tell the powerbook to connect then ok it with a password and as a result i have to keep re syncing things like movies and photos to the apple tv.
Is there a way to automatically connect the powerbook to the hard disk with out it needing a password if not can anyone come up with an explanation as to why the disk has started to unmount after being fine for weeks?
My macbook pro has no problems keeping a connection.

I just found out something today which might help you Daniel, but that doesn't solve our problem in a "classic" way...
So I was very obsessed by the fact that Windows Vista could actually access the shared HD with Bonjour and with a lot of testing I found this : let's say my macbook pro was off, if I would access the HD with Vista and then open up the MacBook Pro, then there would be no problem.
Eventually I found out that the problem really came from the fact that my WD MyBook 1Tb external drive was putting itself on standby after a while (which is a good thing actualy). When I was trying to connect to the drive while it was on standby with Finder, it would try to connect forever... however, it would physically wake up the external drive (I could tell by the sound)... but too late for Finder, and no way to access it other than rebooting the Mac... OR crashing Finder (Apple Menu - Force to quit). Then the Finder restarts automatically and the drive works.
I really don't like this solution (having to crash finder) but it works.
PLEASE if someone has a better way, let me know !!!

I've already had a look at Gerrit's explanation and it certainly clears things up. The way it is currently configured does actually work (I did some testing with regard to the 4th user creating folders) due to the ACLs being inherited.
Basically, everything is working as it is, but it's just a bit of a bodge job (I think) having people using the same log-in account (albeit different short names, creating a pseudo-group).
If Finder Comments were editable by users with RW access, rather than only the file owner, it would all work delightfully. I'm really surprised that this issue hasn't been raised before, which is leading me to believe that something in the way our permissions are set up is causing the problem. I even tried giving explicit write permissions to the .DS_Store file, but it still doesn't allow people to write comments.
I did read somewhere that someone reckons that people with RW permissions (and not the file owner) can write Finder comments. Can anyone verify/de-verify (is that a word?!) this?

Problem with Macbook pro and Airport Express!!!

I'm having the same problem I have seen others with right now with my macbook pro and my airport express. I have set up and reconfigured the A.Express 3 times now. I have the green light, i have the Ethernet configured, I have full bars of reception but I cannot access the signal. meaning I can not go online even though everything is set up correctly and says that it's good to go. Anybody have any advice?
Is it an issue with having to re access the network I created with the Airport utility?
It worked the first time I configured the A. Express with my macbook pro no problem. Then suddenly my computer was just not getting internet. Even though all the settings were ok and I was even getting full bars reception from the device on my comp. So I reset the A.Express and have been having the problem mentioned above since that point. Please help me if you have any advice. Thanks so much in advance.

I had the same problem, and to test if I was connected launched Safari and Safari after a few seconds of not connecting, it shows you a dialog box, with options to follow up, I follow the dialog box and like magic I am connected to the Internet.

Upgraded; problems with registry settings and drivers

Every time I open iTunes, after I recently upgraded it, I get this message:
And every time I connect my iPod I get this message:
I think it may be an issue with a driver.
Every time I reinstall iTunes, I still get the same messages.
Last time I checked, I could still add songs to my library from CDs.
Help!

I am suffering from the SAME EXACT problem and have wasted almost an hour to fruitlessly find SOME WAY to e-mail/contact iTunes Technical Support for assistance on how to resolve this problem. My only difference is that I do not get the USB connection error message when connecting my iPod Touch 2nd Gen (or at least, NOT YET I haven't). I do get the CD ROM Drivers error message every time I launch iTunes.....and what do you know, there has been absolutely NO system, hardware, or software (install or uninstall) changes made WHATSOEVER to the system....but iTunes still gives me this error and only randomly (depending on it's mood of the day) will it see or read audio or video discs when inserted into the DVD drive. Shoot, I even went out and bought another BRAND NEW CD drive in order to test if it was a random read error on the DVD drive.....and guess what, same problem.
I am beginning to think that Apple really isn't 'all that' after all....who the heck do you contact for assistance on this kind of junk?? The Tech Docs are short of worthless and prove to be yet one more fruitless waste of time and energy in the end; I actually think that changing the upper and lower filters hosed things up for me even further.....now what do I do???

Problem with Syncing Music and Video

I have 2 Iphones. When I try to sync them, I get the following error message "The Iphone "..." cannot be synced. The required disc cannot be found." If I hit sync again, it says either the same thing or sometimes it says "Iphone is not connected".
After about 16 hours of trying to get music/video on the Iphone, I now have about 23 songs.
I am just trying to put 1 movie from Itunes on the Ipod and it won't sync it. It also will not sync all of my purchased music.
Everything syncs fine on my Ipod. I tried setting up a different library for the Iphone and that didn't work either. Same result.

Welcome to the forums.
As Allan noted, it's important to be using USB 2.0 and it's possible your machine at home doesn't have this. Check it out via the manual or support site to make sure your home machine meets the specifications.
Assuming for a moment it does, then what you can try is to turn off automatic sync (without the iPhone attached, go to the iPhone tab in iTunes and tell it not to look for an iPhone when attached). Then attach the phone and turn off all syncing except for your music. Make sure you sync via a playlist, and select a playlist that has a few hundred songs (or create one). See if that will transfer properly. If so, it may be the syncing of other items that is causing this problem.

Unforeseen problem with TimeMachine backups and Airport Extreme

Some of you and many others on the net have reported getting TM to work over Airdisk with AEBS. My question is, as an unsupported feature, shouldn't we worry about how the restoration process would be? Once I load Leopard and want to restore my system if anything happened, I might run into a huge problem if my TM drive is not recognized by Leopard over Airdisk using AEBS. Even if I do the update, it may not be identified and I may be stuck basically remaking my entire account from scratch including all my personal files and docs.

I actually was successful in doing a full restore of my Time Machine AEBS USB drive by connecting it directly on my iMac. I booted the iMac with my Leopard DVD (with my Time Machine USB drive connected directly on the iMac), formatted my new iMac internal hard drive from the DVD's Disk Utility, then use Restore from the DVD menu to select the Time Machine backup of my choice (exact date/time) from my USB drive. Finally, I selected my new internal Drive as the target, went to sleep, and when I got up in the morning, my iMac was fully restored!

Problems with PIXMA iP4600 and Airport Espress

I hava a Canon iP4600 connected via Airport Express and can´t get a connection between the printer and the Computer. It doesn´t show in the printer list I installed gutenprint and tried everything but with no results. The closest I got was by trying add it via IP. How do I find out the correct IP number? I found one for a canon printer: 192.168.2.1 and also tried the airport IP 10.0.1.1 but despite the fact that it starts the process - in the end it always say the printer would be busy what is claerly not the case.
Any ideas what I can do?

What a load of bs. Just because he hasn't listed it doesn't mean it won't work.
Since the original post mentions an IP address for the printer, it could suggest he has it connected via Ethernet, not USB. In this case you need to add the printer via More Printers > Canon IJ Network.
If the OP could give some more information re how he has the printer connected to the AE and where he found the printer address then we should be able to instruct him thru the setup.

HT203164 Problems with "cloud" music and burning CDs

I moved my iTunes library to a new computer & now the majority of songs will not burn to CD. It says they are stored in the cloud & cannot be burned from there.There is a cloud next to songs in my music list. I did not subscibe to Match or Cloud and yet I am prevented from burning CDs as I have in the past. Seems like every time I download an updated iTunes, it is more complicated and cofusing than the last. Apple custermer service is no help, as you cannot contact them via email and then only if you have a valid serial number for a product.

Problem with shared calendars and adding them to favourites

Having an issue where suddenly shared calendars disappeared from users calendar list. They are now unable to add shared calenders to their favorites. I have reset the nav pane on users machines but this has no effect. It has happened on both Outlook 2010
and 2013.
Any help on why this issue has happened and a way to resolve it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

How did you add your shared calendar to Favourites? I can't make it in my Outlook 2013.
Can you re-add the shared calendars back to the Calendar list? Calendar view >
Home tab > Open Calendar button >
Open Shared Calendar... When we use /resetnavpane command will clear the Navigation Pane settings include the shared calendar list.
In addition, we can check the OWA and see if you can see the shared calendar information. If not, try to re-add the shred calendar to check the result.

Problems with adding music and videos from a different computer?

I have a 30gig video and it doesnt let me add anything from a computer that my itunes library isnt connected with.
When i try 2 add something it says ill have to switch to this computers media library and it will delete whats on the ipod. I only want to add a few songs and videos and it without deleteing everything

After you set the iPod to manually update, connect it to the second computer. If that message still appears, click "No" on it. Then, select a song in the iTunes library that you want on your iPod and simply click and drag it to your iPod. The top of iTunes will say "updating iPod" if the song was successfully dragged to the iPod.

The article is much more detailed than what I could ever hope to go into... and it does address manually updating audio files, and using the iPod on an iTunes library that it is not linked to.

Trouble sharing Music and Photos on new Mac Book Pro

I am loving my new Mac Book Pro. Front Row seems quite promising, but I'm having problems with shared music and photos.
I have an airport network in my home and have most of my music and photos stored on my desktop (Dual G4). When I open iTunes on my new MBP the shared music works just fine. Similarly, iPhotos shows the shared photos from my desktop on my MBP.
But, when I try using Front Row, I get an error message saying that there is no shared content. I found a work around that seems to work most (but not all) of the time. If I open iTunes first, start playing a song (shared from the desktop) and then switch over to Front Row it shows that song as now playing and then the rest of the shared music is available.
I have used Software Update to download the latest version of all software on both computers and for my airport network.
Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

If you haven't already please update to 10.4.8. If issue persists then try the following:
Remove the following files to the trash (do not empty until you test for function):
~/library/caches
~/library/preferences/com.apple.itunes.plist
~/library/prefernces/com.apple.iphoto.plist
~/library/preferences/com.apple.frontrow.plist
- Repair your permissions - > http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=DiskUtility/10.5/en/duh17.html
- Restart your computer again
- Test and see how its working
