Upgrade protected aac audio file

I have many protected aac audio file on my Mac that I want to convert to MP3.  Any suggestions?  Most sites suggest right-click on song and select upgrade, but no such option appears when I follow those directions.  Thanks.

The policy where you used to be able to pay an upgrade charge on a per tune basis appears to no longer be available and you can only upgrade DRM music by subscribing to iTunes Match. If you only have one or two tracks you have to decide if it is worth the money.
iTunes Match - http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/ - see FAQ at end too
Remember, you can burn DRM music to CD (I think 7 times) which then behaves as a normal audio CD.

  • How do I make a ringtone with GarageBand for my iPhone from rights-protected AAC audio files I purchased from iTunes?

When I try to import some songs I purchased from iTunes into GarageBand so I can create a customer ringtone a window pops open stating that I cannot import a rights-protected AAC audio file?  I bought the song from iTunes and can play it on my iPhone iPod application.  Does not make sense except from a mercenary perspective why I cannot create  a custom ringtone from the song and play it on my iPhone when the phone rings.  Is there a solution?

You cannot use DRM protected songs for this as they are drm protected to stop you from doing this.
Any itunes plus ( all itunes music sold over the past couple of years or so) can be used to make ringtones.

  • Protected AAC Audio Files Help

My own computer no longer has internet, where before it was connected to the main computer downstairs...
I recently formatted my C: drive and reinstall Windows XP Home Edition and had to reinstalled iTunes and added all my music to iTunes again.
Problem is I have to authorize all my Protected AAC Audio files but I don't have internet so I cant listen to them. I can only listen to them on my iPod.
Is there another way of authorizing my songs with the use of another computer w/ internet?
    Many Thanks.

Sorry, no. An internet connection is required on any computer long enough to authorize that system.

  • My iPhone 4 (iOS 4.3.5) can't play my protected AAC  Audio files

When i try playing an older song i have purchased in iTunes, of the "protected AAC audio file" type, my iPhone just skips it. And this is on both my new acount and my old acount. I made two playlist to test this issue, and the older "protected" files does not work, but all the new "purchased" files work fine.
I should think this is a software problem, and more people are experiencing this, but i couldn't find any ohter threads with this issue...

  • Not able to import protected AAC audio files

Can i do this? In the past I was able to import these purchased files, and then with an update, I no longer could. When I updated my system to 10.3.9, I was again able to use the music I purchased thru itunes. Now, again I cannot. What happen? Is this something Apple does on purpose, not letting us use music we purchased from them in their programs?

I am not sure what you mean by putting the G4 to sleep. I put it to sleep and had to wake it up, copied songs to cd, deleted songs from itunes and reimported them. Again, they came back as protected AAC audio files even though I selected AIFF files.
Reading a tourtorial on imovie it mentions you can get songs from the istore and import them to your movie. So, it is suppose to work.

  • HT1349 Can't sync purchased songs listed as protected aac audio file to Blackberry Link. songs marked just aac audio file. Repurchased one song and worked O.K.. Is there an easier way than having tp re-purchase half of library?

Can,t sync purchased songs marked Protected AAC audio file to Blackberry Link. Songs marked just AAC audio file O.K. Repurchased one song now listed as AAC audio file and now works. Any simpler way to do this with existing protected song other than re-purchase all of them?

Add the ability to randomly select a new background from a pre selected group of photos every time the player is turned on or each day.
I would love that feature. I can't stand useing my computer with a single wall paper anymore (I have 500 anime pics that i rotate between every 2 mins ) If you could make the vision rotate background every x minutes or every time the player is turned on, it would be totally amazeningly sweet!!!! (i might have to go out and buy one then :P)
I just hope that creative has better firmware support with the vision than they have had with the touch.
    Once again, great review

  • Can't download music in anything but protected AAC audio file.

When I download music it always comes as a protected AAC audio file. Previously I could download as AAC audio file and copy to a CD to play on Car Stereo. Can't seem to do that any more. All protected AAC audio files will only play on itunes and will not convert. Any ideas?

Sounds like you have your burn options set to "MP3 CD" Instead of "Audio CD" if its wanting to convert a file.
Goto edit>preferences>Advanced tab>Burn sub tab, set it to "Audio CD" and hit OK

  • Won't Sync Protected AAC Audio Files

We've got a 2nd gen shuffle that won't sync protected AAC audio files. The background story is that my hard drive fried and I had to rewrite it. I've reset the shuffle and now we're trying to put brand new music on it. It will sync the song that is labeled "purchased AAC audio file." Fact of the matter is, we purchased all of them!
Any ideas? Any help will be most appreciated.

    1. Try playing one of the songs that won't sync in iTunes then try to sync them again.
    2. If that doesn't work, go to the Store menu at the top in iTunes, Deauthorize your computer then play one of the songs you purchased. When prompted enter your Apple ID and password, then Resync.

  • Purchased vs. protected  AAC audio file

seems like all my "purchased" itunes songs are labeled under the Kind column as either purchased or protected. what's the diff?

iTunes sells songs, so they are all purchased, but not all of them are protected with DRM. So if you buy "Plus" songs from the iTunes store that are Plus songs and lack the DRM protection, then they are simply purchased but have not protection (which means you can can convert them directly to MP3s for example, which you can not do with protected tracks).

  • Artwork doesn't xfer to BlackBerry unless its a "Purchased AAC audio file"

I've got a new BlackBerry Bold. I've had good success transfering my iTunes music to my phone, but I can only transfer album artwork for some of my songs. Only the songs in iTunes that are "Purchased AAC audio file" seem to successfuly transfer to my phone along with their artwork. None of the artwork transfers for my imported CDs or any iTunes purchases that are "Protected AAC audio file" even though I paid for these albums. Can anyone help me solve this mystery?

I have 2 categories of songs on I tunes that wont download to my new BB Bold- in all cases on the playlist on the BB music sync playlists it says the songs are "Protected (Digital...."
1- songs originally downloaded from CD's onto I tunes, I have been able to download those onto Ipods but not the Bold, I don't have this problem with all music from CD's just some
2- some purchased songs from I tunes wont download to the Bold-- I paid $.30 to remove the DRM for all songs that Itunes gave me the option to do that with on a message that popped up, yet other songs purchased from Itunes still wont download and I get the same "Protected (Digital...."
any suggestions on how to get those songs onto my Bold?

  • Duplicates in iTunes:  Should I delete the Purchased AAC Audio file?

I show two different file types and sometimes 3.  Sometimes it will say MP3, which I assume is one that came from a CD or something.  If I need to delete duplicates, should I delete the "Purchased AAC Audio file"  or delete the "AAC Audio File".  What's the difference?

"Purchased AAC Audio" refers to files that came from the iTunes Store.  "AAC Audio" refers to files in AAC format that came from some other source, such as ripping a CD, or doing a conversion with iTunes.
If you only want to keep one file, it does not really matter which one you delete.

  • Copying protected aac audio book

Is there any way I can backup a protected aac audio book downloaded from iTunes. I have my music backed up on an external hard drive. I would like to back up my book on a cd if this is at all possible.
Thanks for your help in advance
    dave

You could also just backup onto your external drive along with your music. You'll find then in your iTunes media/music folder in a folder called Audiobooks ( or in iTunes just right click and Reveal in Finder)

  • Importing rights protected ACC audio files

  • How to upgrade protected AAC files to iTunes Plus (DRM-free)?

Hi everyone.  I have been purchasing music from the iTunes Music Store ever since it opened here in the US.  Along the way I have purchased both protected AAC files (the original 128 kbps files), iTunes Plus files, and I've upgraded some of the protected to iTunes Plus files for $0.30 over the last few years.  I now have approximately 900 "protected AAC files" left that I wanted to upgrade to iTunes Plus and see the only way to do that now is via iTunes Match.
My dilema is this... I have approximately 900+ files that I want to upgrade and don't feel like manually deleting every track, finding it in the iTunes Music Store, and then redownloading (in the iTunes Plus format).  Is there a way to do all 900+ at one time?
    Thank you,
    Keith

First you need to enable the iCloud Status, Bit Rate and Kind columns so you can see which tracks are "matched" and which are "uploaded." Any tracks that are "uploaded" will not be upgraded. To enable these columns switch to Song view then pull down View > View Options and select the appropriate check boxes then close the small window. Once this is done you can see the tracks that are protected and matched. These tracks can then be deleted from the iTunes library and the HDD (but make sure you have them backed up first, just in case) then downloaded from the cloud. They will then be DRM-free 256 Kbps AAC files.
As Jim points out you will not get a 100% match rate. The process simply isn't that good.

  • Protected AAC music/files not playing or appearing in iTunes purchases

Any purchases which I made from itunes during 2007/08 which were protected AAC files will no longer play on my pc (nor download to my ipod).  I get multiple 'This computer is not authorised to play....Would you like to authorise it?' When I authorise it, it tells me that 'This computer is already authorised (2 out of 5)'.  But the track will not play and again asks for authorisation. The tracks that will not play are all 'Fairplay version 2'. I thought about deleting them and downloading them again as I understand that Apple no longer encripts files, but they do not appear in my previous purchases in my itunes account (no purchases before 2011 appear?) - so I assume that I cannot download them again. So i have the tracks in my library, the 'info' says that they are registered to my itunes account, but it seems that because they are encripted I cannot play them.  Help please!!

I am having what seems to be the same problem as Julie described. After purchasing an album on itunes, I created a CD-R disk that will play on the computer but not on any of several players I tried. The CD shows (Get info) each tune to be an MP-4. In ITunes...the tracks are shown as AAC protected...I don't know the difference.
It appears Julie solved the problem by your suggestion to go to iTunes preferences...I tried that Pref>Advanced>Burning>and selected Audio CD and burned a second disk....actually I didn't change anything because my preferences were already set that way.
I would never buy anything else from iTunes that I cannot play on my home system. this has been a frustrating matter and I guess what I am asking is there a pausible solution?
    To your questions:
Play on home CD player: message: No audio...although the Cd plays on the computer ok.
    Media used: Memorex CD-R
Brand of players: Sony DVD player 1.5 years old & Cyberhome 1 year
    Operating System 10.3.9
    iTunes 5.xx
Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.
    thanks,
    ron
