Upgrade question on an iPhone 4
I presently have an iPhone 4 running iOS 4.3.5 (8L1).
I am running iTunes version 11.0.0.163.
I have downloaded iPhone3,1_5.1.1_9B208_Restore.ipsw

If I use the "Shift-Restore iPhone..." method of "upgrading" my phone, will I lose things like apps and music?
Will I be able to actually restore things to the way there are now?
I am obviously a bit nervous that this "restore" may screw things up beyond recognition.
I do not have any desire to upgrade to iOS 6 as is suggested by iTunes every time I sync my phone.
Thanks for any advice, especially from those who have actually done what I am contemplating.

if you restore your phone, you will be required to update autmatically. 6.0.1 is really not bad, some people have isues but it does not mean everyone is having those issues.

You can put your 3G S sim card in another ATT phone and it will automatically become your present number. Therefore, you can sell your present phone anytime you want. Just don't include the sim card with it. When you get your new phone (if you haven't done anything about requesting one of the new data plans), you should automatically get the same unlimited plan.
The unlimited data plan is nice, but unless ATT changes their minds and allows tethering with the unlimited plan, I think it's of questionable value UNLESS you spend a LOT of time streaming video (read mlb.com or youtube) on a daily basis or streaming music (read pandora.com or sirius).
For the present, I'm keeping my unlimited plan, but over the last 6 months, I'm only averaging about 1.5GB monthly. And that's mostly because I steam the Sirius App about 45-60 minutes daily while I'm walking. I would lean toward going with the 2GB plan IF ATT would kick up the monthly limit to say 5GB for tethering. I don't see myself doing a lot of tethering, but the 2GB would not cut the mustard for me unless I were to give up my Sirius App. -
Security upgrade question - Getting 6.1.6 downloaded to iphone.
Security upgrade question - I have a 4S phone v6.01 with an upgrade to IOS 7.04 already downloaded and ready for install. I would like to install the 6.1.6 security upgrade instead. How do I delete the ios7 in the queue or have the 6.1.1 pushed as an option to the phone?
You can't install iOS 6.1.6 on that device and must update it to 7.0.6.

Yesterday, I pre-ordered (online) 2 iPhone 6's. We are upgrading from our old iPhone 4. I realize the new 6 will use a sim card where the 4 did not. Will the new phones come with the sim card installed or will I need to go to the Verizon store and get them?

TerriThe phone should come with the SIM card pre-installed. If there is not one in the phone or in the box, you can get one free at a corporate Verizon store, or have one mailed to you. Some authorized reseller and third party vendors will charge for a SIM card; Verizon does not charge anything for the SIM card.

Another "using another person's upgrade" question
Sorry in advance if this question has been covered 100 times before. I spent some time trying to find an answer that fits my scenario in the forums but didn't find an exact fit.
My Droid Incredible touch screen stopped working this past week (no drops, no water, no reason to stop working) and since I am 1yr and 3months into owning the device and have no insurance the local store said I'm pretty much SOL and to contact HTC. Dealing with HTC has been the worst customer service experience of my life and they pretty much said the same thing since they only cover their devices for 1 year. (Said I could send it in to their repair facility on my dime for 2 weeks minimum and they would determine the repair cost and contact me). So I can't upgrade until April on my account and am trying to figure out a way to get a new phone (not at full price).
My girlfriend has been up for an upgrade for months now (she uses a basic phone, no data) and isn't in any hurry to use it. She does't ever want a smart phone and said that I should just use her upgrade. So, the details and questions are as follows:
1. We are not on the same account (family plan). We have individual plans. My plan is 400 or so mintues of talk and unlimited data. Her plan is 400 minutes or so of talk.
2. I would like to use her upgrade to get an iphone 4s.
3. We do not want to change her plan (its something like $30 a month grandfathered plan).
4. I would like to keep my current plan as well. (unlimited data)
Is it possible to make all of these things happen? I have read that it is simple if you are on a family plan to do this. Can we go down to the local store and get an iphone 4s and activate it on my account instead of hers?
As a side question (and to make things more complicated)... Does anyone know if we can we combine our accounts together into 1 account and save money or minutes. We both hardly use our minutes at all and aside from me using the data plan for work we toss out hundreds of minutes per month.

If it's an "authorized reseller" or a third party store, it amy be more difficult and they may tell you they can't do it.

You can get a family plan with 700 shared minutes, 2 lines, for $70, and the data plan on your phone would be $30. I'm not sure if you would be able to keep your unlimited data though - you might be if you do this in stages. First, combine your two accounts into one family plan and do nothing about upgrading for now. Let that "settle"; your upgrade dates and eligibilities will remain the same as they were on your individual plans. If you can make this transition and keep your unlimited data, then you're good to go upgrade the eligible line (your girlfirend's) to the iPhone, but activate it on your line. Her line's contract will be extended for two years, but she can use her old phone and you can use the iPhone. If the unlimited data did carry over, it will remain for the iPhone too.

Dear Apple...I know time marches on but unfortunately you have become useless to those of us who can't upgrade systems or afford Iphones. So my itunes is totally unavailalbe since ipods can't work w/Itunes 9, so all the $ I spent is out the window! I have been an apple mac user since the Blue Tower in early 2000. The fact that I recently replace a stolen Ipod Classic and it isn't compatible w/iTunes9 is really screwed up. You have failed many!

I was just authorized on the account, how long does it to take affect? Other upgrade question too.
So My mother is the account holder and bill-payer for our plan. She just called in and got me authorized to pay bills and purchace a new phone. I am wanting to get the new iPhone 4S. She is available to get it at $199 and I am not. Does this mean that now that i am authorizied I can access her upgrade and get the phone for $199? Also, how long until I can actually make purchases and such? (She just authorized me 10 minutes ago over the phone)

The best way to get the upgrade is to log into the Verizon Wireless website under your moms account and click on where it says “transfer upgrade.” Once this is completed you will be able to take advantage of that upgrade. Problem with contacts after upgrading to iOS 7 (iphone 5)
After upgrading to iOS 7 (iphone 5), the contacts (loaded from icloud) in greek language aren't sorted!!! They are under the # symbol!! Anyone has a solution. I didnt have this problem with previous iOS versions!!!!
My phone was fine after I connected to iTunes. It appeared in recovery mode and then it downloaded the update, installed and all was fine.

I have 2 questions regarding the iphone 5. 1 How do i get my yahoo mail set up. I tried the setting it up as both a yahoo mail and other mail. 2. I seem to have lost my notes on my iphone 5 but I have them on my ipad. How can I use cloud to sync my notes?
I will address your second question.
First, make sure your iPhone and iPad have absolutely identical Apple IDs. If they do, use that Apple ID in Settings > iCloud on your iPhone to select the "Notes" option. Lo and behold, all your iCloud notes should appear on your iPhone. -
My daughter is currently using my Apple ID with her ipod touch. I will be upgrading her to an iPhone 4S and would like to use a different Apple ID and a new computer and still keep all the current music and Apps that she has now. How do I do this?
Make a new Apple ID for her.
Use it on her iPhone 4S for iCloud, iMessage and FaceTime.
Use your ID on her iPhone 4S for iTunes and App Stores.
Sign in with your Apple ID on iTunes Store (on iTunes app of her new computer)
Authorize her new computer with your Apple ID in iTunes (iTunes menu>Store>Authorize this Computer)
Check "Share my Library on my Local Network" in iTunes Preferences in your and her computer
Sign in Home Sharing of her iTunes with your Apple ID.
Copy all the Music she wants from the old computer to the new one. (Must be on the same network)
Copy all the apps she wants from the old computer to the new one. (Must be on the same network)
Export all playlist as xml files from the old computer to the new one.(right click on the playlist to export and "File>Library>Import Playlist to Import)
Sync her iPhone 4S with all content she wants from her new computer (all data from the old computer will be deleted)
Are you sharing Contacts or other data from iCloud?
Be careful or ask for help about moving from iCloud account to another one. -
After upgrading to ios6 my iphone will not open .xls files in emails with the default viewer. Is there a fix for this? The same emailed .xls files still open on my ipad using ios5 while viewing email like they did on my iphone prior to upgrading. I have no special software like numbers or anything else installed on either device. Just using the default viewer provided by apple for viewing email.
The attachment is an .xls excel 97-2003 spreadsheet. I viewed the file in the email and did not edit it with any software. I can forward the file to anyone that is may want to check it out to see if they can help me. I was wondering if there was some way of forcing another ios6 install on my phone and maybe that would solve it.
Is there anyone out there that is viewing .xls files in email using ios6 w/o any other software installed like numbers or any other add ons? I am not upgrading my ipad from ios5 to ios6 so I can still continue to view the emails on my ipad. Is there an email viewer .xls plug-in that will be availablle in the next ios6 update? -
Upgraded my phone to iphone 6 from iphone 4. My iTunes with all my music is on a computer that no longer works and can't access the music. Will iTunes Match allow me to get my music off of my iphone 4 and put it on my iphone 6? Sorry about copying twice, new to this.
Do you have iTunes match? You need a computer to manage an iTunes match library.

It was set up all the restarted, re booted whole nine yards..... I even restarted it a couple times since update... It's been a couple of days and it just stall and reboots when you try to edit any picture :( I also seem to be having many of the other update issues as others. Including battery % loss t higher rate and loosing phone service all togethere.....
