Upgrade R/3 - ERP 6 - SP Stack 3 for EHP4 option comes and goes in MOPZ

Hi,
I'm currently preparing to upgrade our QA system from R/3 enterprise 4.7 ext set 2.00 directly to ERP 6 Ehp4 SP Stack 3.
When i create the maintenance transaction, I can select the initial release R/3, and the QAS system.  The next step is to select whether i want to perform maintenance or upgrade.  i select Upgrade.
I select find download files, here I'm given the option of selecting Product Version - EHP4 for ERP 6.0/NW7.01, or EHP3.  I select EHP4.
The target stack is showing SAP ERP Enhancement Package 4 on NW 7.01 - SP Stack 1, or Stack Level 0.
Where did sp stack 03 go?  I was able to select it for this system yesterday but I withdrew from the transaction as I wasn't ready to begin, and now when i go back in i can only select SP Stack 1!  The data for QAS is up to date in solution manager, and syncronized with the SAP Support Portal.
My Solution Manager system is EHP1, or sp stack 19. I've also implemented all the suggested notes for sp 19 in Solution Manager.
Thanks!

UPDATE:  This morning I started a new maintenanace transaction and went through the above steps, and now I'm able to select SP3 for EHP4 as the target stack.  So I guess this isn't an issue anymore...

Sorry, I don't know why this is showing up as one big sentence!!!!!
Andre,
I had lots of little issues using Prepare, especially with add-ons that were considered at too high a level for the upgrade (ST/PI, PI_BASIS, etc).  Most of these issues were resolved by using the latest SAPup.  Even during the upgrade there were times when the upgrade would stop unexpectedly, or hang.
When I moved to the BS2007 DVD's, the whole process became much smoother.  In fact, during the upgrade the system did not stop due to any errors, or hang at any point.  The "Prepare" phase has been removed, and is now included in the overall upgarde process.  They have broken down the upgrade into 8 phases, and the system can stay in production until the 6th stage which is nice to minimize downtime.  We actually are looking at 15-20 hours of downtime total!  When I did the upgrade to ERP6 EHp3 then another to EHP4, the downtime was 4 or 5 days for us.
The media list I used is as follows:
51036767 - Kernel 7.01 (this one is os/db specific so might not be the right one for you)
51036889 - Upgrade Master
51036904_1 - Language 1
51036904_2 - Language 2
51036903_1 - Upgrade Export 1
51036903_2 - Upgrade Export 2
Also, using the solution manager, an upgrade Stack File was created, and the patches were added to the download basket and downloaded into the "Download Directory" for the upgrade.  I also added the latest kernel to this directory.  The upgrade program is pretty good when you put patch files in the download dir at finding the patchs.  I had all sorts of issues using the generated XML file from the Solution manager, but once the BCOS_CUST table was maintained and the RFC destination set up to the solution manager in the system I was upgrading, the upgrade progrma found the solman connection and took the stack directly from there.
SAP has created a new upgrade master guide specifically for the BD2007 media, and going directly to EHp4.  Please see: https://websmp102.sap-ag.de/instguides .
SAP Business Suite Applications - SAP ERP 6.0 - Upgrade - Upgrade Guides - ERP 6.0 includinge EHP 4
One last note, if you start the upgrade with the ERP6 EHP3 media, and then decide to back out and use the BS2007 dvds, you might have issues.  I did this and then when i started to use BS2007, the upgrade program halted saying that another upgrade had already been started (this isn't supposed to happen but I'm not the first it has happened to!).  If I didn't have a backup of the DB to restore from, SAP would have had to log in and fix this issue which could have severely delayed us.
Good luck with your Upgrade!

I updated my fire fox on my MAC OS X to 3.6.6 version of firefox, everything went smooth till I open FireFox then the window firefox update opens up and about 1/3 through the process it gets stuck on Checking Compatibility of Add-ons and doesn't go any further. I have hit cancel and firefox opens but it doesn't open any web sites. I have removed firefox and re-installed and it is still doing the same thing. I have also let it run over night thinking it may just take a while and it never progresses, please advise, I am new to MAC but FireFox is the only browser on my mac that will open one of my business pages, known issue with mac for this company.

    Regards,

    Hi Aashish,
can you please provide some further information?
What exactly are you doing in the SAP Solution Manager - Maintenance Optimizer?
I assume that you are at least on SP 15 which is a prerequisite.
Currently a common error is a wrong maintained SMSY: Please check SAP note 1022072 for details.

  • Upgrade to mySAP ERP 2005 with Unicode

    Dear Experts,
We are currentl looking at upgrading our 4.5B system to mySAP ERP2005 and have the following issues.
1.Our DB size is currently 2.4 TB and with Unicode we expect more....what should be the best strategy to control the DB size apart from Archiving?
2.What will be the effect on the Roles and what steps should be taken in order to make it a smoother upgrade?
Since Iam new to this upgrade and have not had any upgrade experience,I would appreciate if you can share some detailed documentation as well as answer to my queries.
    Regards,
    Mohammad.

    Hello Mohammad,
I would recommend the SAP Data Management Guide for ways to control and manage DB growth.  There are many references to data archiving, but it also has a lot of information on how to prevent growth, or delete data that does not need to be archived.  You can get this guide from the following link:

  • Java Add-In Installation for EHP4 ERP system

    Hello!
we successfully upgraded our SAP ERP system to EHP4 for SAP.
Our system has only ABAP stack.
    Question
    1) Is it possible to install a Java Add-In instance for the existing EHP4 system?
    2) If yes, can this be done on the same Windows server?
    Thank you very much!

    Specific Requirements
Take the following specific requirements of the new installation process into consideration:
    - The previous SAPInst installation service Java Add-In in SAP ERP 6.0/SAP NetWeaver
7.0 was able to add Java usage types such as EPC, or EP, to existing ABAP-only
systems. This was possible only, if you added AS Java at the same time. The option of a
Java Add-In installation is not any longer available as of the enhancement package 4 for
SAP ERP 6.0. Thus, it is not any longer possible, for example, to add EPC and EP
together with AS Java to an ABAP-only system.

  • Upgrading a 3-node Hyper-V clusters storage for £10k and getting the most bang for our money.

Hi all, looking for some discussion and advice on a few questions I have regarding storage for our next cluster upgrade cycle.
Our current system for a bit of background:
3x Clustered Hyper-V Servers running Server 2008 R2 (72TB Ram, dual cpu etc...)
1x Dell MD3220i iSCSI with dual 1GB connections to each server (24x 146GB 15k SAS drives in RAID 10) - Tier 1 storage
    1x Dell MD1200 Expansion Array with 12x 2TB 7.2K drives in RAID 10 - Tier 2 storage, large vm's, files etc...
~25 VM's running all manner of workloads, SQL, Exchange, WSUS, Linux web servers etc....
1x DPM 2012 SP1 Backup server with its own storage.
    Reasons for upgrading:
Storage though put is becoming an issue as we only get around 125MB/s over the dual 1GB iSCSI connections to each physical server.  (tried everything under the sun to improve bandwidth but I suspect the MD3220i Raid is the bottleneck here.
Backup times for vm's (once every night) is now in the 5-6 hours range.
Storage performance during backups and large file syncronisations (DPM)
Tier 1 storage is running out of capacity and we would like to build in more IOPS for future expansion.
Tier 2 storage is massively underused (6tb of 12tb Raid 10 space)
    Migrating to 10GB server links.
Total budget for the upgrade is in the region of £10k so I have to make sure we get absolutely the most bang for our buck.
    Current Plan:
Upgrade the cluster to Server 2012 R2
Install a dual port 10GB NIC team in each server and virtualize cluster, live migration, vm and management traffic (with QoS of course)
Purchase a new JBOD SAS array and leverage the new Storage Spaces and SSD caching/tiering capabilities.  Use our existing 2TB drives for capacity and purchase sufficient SSD's to replace the 15k SAS disks.
    On to the questions:
Is it supported to use storage spaces directly connected to a Hyper-V cluster?  I have seen that for our setup we are on the verge of requiring a separate SOFS for storage but the extra costs and complexity are out of our reach. (RDMA, extra 10GB NIC's
    etc...)
When using a storage space in a cluster, I have seen various articles suggesting that each csv will be active/passive within the cluster.  Causing redirected IO for all cluster nodes not currently active?
If CSV's are active/passive its suggested that you should have a csv for each node in your cluster?  How in production do you balance vm's accross 3 CSV's without manually moving them to keep 1/3 of load on each csv?  Ideally I would like just
a single CSV active/active for all vm's to sit on.  (ease of management etc...)
If the CSV is active/active am I correct in assuming that DPM will backup vm's without causing any re-directed IO?
Will DPM backups of VM's be incremental in terms of data transferred from the cluster to the backup server?
Thanks in advance for anyone who can be bothered to read through all that and help me out!  I'm sure there are more questions I've forgotten but those will certainly get us started.
Also lastly, does anyone else have a better suggestion for how we should proceed?
    Thanks

    1) You can use direct connection to SAS with a 3-node cluster of course (4-node, 5-node etc). Sure it would be much faster then running with an additional SoFS layer (with SAS fed directly to your Hyper-V cluster nodes all reads and writes would be local
travelling down the SAS fabric and with SoFS layer added you'll have the same amount of I/Os targeting SAS + Ethernet with its huge compared to SAS latency sitting in between a requestor and your data residing on SAS spindles, I/Os overwrapped into SMB-over-TCP-over-IP-over-Etherent
requests at the hypervisor-SoFS layers). Reason why SoFS is recommended - final SoFS-based solution would be cheaper as SAS-only is a pain to scale beyond basic 2-node configs. Instead of getting SAS switches, adding redundant SAS controllers to every hypervisor
node and / or looking for expensive multi-port SAS JBODs you'll have a pair (at least) of SoFS boxes doing a file level proxy in front of a SAS-controlled back end. So you'll compromise performance in favor of cost. See:
    http://davidzi.com/windows-server-2012/hyper-v-and-scale-out-file-cluster-home-lab-design/
Used interconnect diagram within this design would actually scale beyond 2 hosts. But you'll have to get a SAS switch (actually at least two of them for redundancy as you don't want any component to become a single point of failure, don't you?)
    2) With 2012 R2 all I/O from a multiple hypervisor nodes is done thru the storage fabric (in your case that's SAS) and only metadata updates would be done thru the coordinator node and using Ethernet connectivity. Redirected I/O would be used in a two cases
only a) no SAS connectivity from the hypervisor node (but Ethernet one is still present) and b) broken-by-implementation backup software would keep access to CSV using snapshot mechanism for too long. In a nutshell: you'll be fine :) See for references:
    http://www.petri.co.il/redirected-io-windows-server-2012r2-cluster-shared-volumes.htm
    http://www.aidanfinn.com/?p=12844
    3) These are independent things. CSV is not active/passive (see 2) so basically with an interconnection design you'll be using there's virtually no point to having one-CSV-per-hypervisor. There are cases when you'd still probably do this. For example if
you'd have all-flash and combined spindle/flash LUNs and you know for sure you want some VMs to sit on flash and others (no so I/O hungry) to stay within "spinning rust". One more case is many-node cluster. With it multiple nodes basically fight for a single
LUN and a lot of time is wasted for SCSI reservation conflicts resove (ODX has no reservation offload like VAAI has so even if ODX is present its not going to help). Again it's a place where SoFS "helps" as having intermediate proxy level turns block I/O into
file I/O triggering SCSI reservation conflicts for a two SoFS nodes only instead of an evey node in a hypervisor cluster. One more good example is when you'll have a mix of a local I/O (SAS) and Ethernet with a Virtual SAN products. Virtual SAN runs directly
as part of the hypervisor and emulates high performance SAN using cheap DAS. To increase performance it DOES make sense to create a  concept of a "local LUN" (and thus "local CSV") as reads targeting this LUN/CSV would be passed down the local storage
stack instead of hitting the wire (Ethernet) and going to partner hypervisor nodes to fetch the VM data. See:
    http://www.starwindsoftware.com/starwind-native-san-on-two-physical-servers
    http://www.starwindsoftware.com/sw-configuring-ha-shared-storage-on-scale-out-file-servers
(feeding basically DAS to Hyper-V and SoFS to avoid expensive SAS JBOD and SAS spindles). The same thing as VMware is doing with their VSAN on vSphere. But again that's NOT your case so it DOES NOT make sense to keep many CSVs with only 3 nodes present or
    SoFS possibly used.
    4) DPM is going to put your cluster in redirected mode for a very short period of time. Microsoft says NEVER. See:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh758090.aspx
    Direct and Redirect I/O
Each Hyper-V host has a direct path (direct I/O) to the CSV storage Logical Unit Number (LUN). However, in Windows Server 2008 R2 there are a couple of limitations:
For some actions, including DPM backup, the CSV coordinator takes control of the volume and uses redirected instead of direct I/O. With redirection, storage operations are no longer through a host’s direct SAN connection, but are instead routed
through the CSV coordinator. This has a direct impact on performance.
CSV backup is serialized, so that only one virtual machine on a CSV is backed up at a time.
In Windows Server 2012, these limitations were removed:
    Redirection is no longer used.
CSV backup is now parallel and not serialized.
    5) Yes, VSS and CBT would be used so data would be incremental after first initial "seed" backup. See:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff399619.aspx
    http://itsalllegit.wordpress.com/2013/08/05/dpm-2012-sp1-manually-copy-large-volume-to-secondary-dpm-server/
I'd look at some other options. There are few good discussion you may want to read. See:
    http://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1209963

  • WS Adapter(PI 7.1) vs SOAManager? PI 7.4 Single Stack capabilities for WS-RM

    Hi Experts,
The dual-stack SAP PI came with WS Adapter had the Direct communication capabilities between 2 ERP systems skipping IE, which made the communication fast and also gave the additional monitoring capabilities of PI to the communication.
With SAP PI 7.4, we do not have WS Adapter. Is this a set back? or Was it unnecessary looking at the existence of SOAManager configuraitons?
Can anyone some points on WS Adapter vs SOAMANAGER for WS-RM configurations/direct communication between 2 ERP systems?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Vikas Kumar Singh

    (a) I am under the impression that WS -RM adapter used for Web services cannot be used in asynchronous scenarios. Am I correct?
Actually WS adapter only supports Asynchronous communication (EO/ EOIO)
    (b) If WS-RM Adapter can be used for asynchronous scenarios, how do we do it?
The corresponding Service Interface (in your case sender) should be having mode as Asynchronous
    (c) Since I assume that WSRM Adapter cannot be used for asynchronous scenarios, if I use the scenario WSRM - IDOC
(asynchronous) adapter, then I have to use BPM (Sync-Async communication). Am I correct to believe that WSRM -IDOC
integration is not possible without BPM?
    (d) In case WSRM-IDOC integration is ONLY possible with BPM, is WS-RM --- ABAP Proxy better than WS-RM -- IDOC integration?
    NA
    Update:
To confirm what I said refer the QoS column for WS adapter in the table over here:

  • Upgrade warning: Local flags in collections may disappear for good

So I've upgrade (or rather copied and upgraded) my LR 3 catalog to the newly installed LR 4.
And there seems to be no smart upgrade policy for local flags in collections. They're simply gone.
If you want to migrate, it seems to me that you will have to find a way how to preserve those flags by fiddling with LR 3 first.
I'll probably make two stacks in each collection: picks and the rest. Very cumbersome to manage, but probably the best alternative until Adobe decides to give us some sort of 'picking the best' locally for a collection.

There are going to be differences of opinion whether flags should be global or local to collections. I guess it is a matter of personal work flow and preference. What seems to be lost in all of this is that flags have been local for a long time and we all have developed our use of them with that in mind. I personally group photos by subject into collections and then review them for selection. I flag the picks in the collection as I go through them and then I can pull up just the flagged photos in the collection for later use. It might be to create a CD, a slide show, or whatever. This process often involves a great deal of time comparing variations on the same picture for expressions, focus, etc. Once I make my choice I flag it. I have gone thorough that evaluation and selection process for thousands of photos. Now Adobe is changing this major item with no option to the user to keep the flags local to maintain the structure that has been created under the earlier system.
I am certainly capable of using global flags going forward with new photos, but my concern is the inability to carry forward to LR4 the flags I have already spent hours and hours applying to the catalogs in LR3. I personally would be fine with converting my local flags to global flags, just don't simply throw them away. That is essentially what LR4 does - it thows them away. They represent a lot of time and work to pick the best photos.
I have to beleive there are a lot of people who have used the flags in a similar manner. I do not see how Adobe can make such a significant change to this issue after years of the other structure without any method to at least convert the existing flagging information to the new system. It is precisely this kind of change that makes people reluctant to switch to things like DNG file formats.

  • Upgraded to IOS 8.  iMessage has changed for the worse, losing messages now.  How can I force iMessage to use SMS for some contacts?

SMS works well and is generally free for most plans here.  I'd like to be able to send messages via SMS from my iPhone for many of these contacts because something changed in IOS 8 iMessage and now iMessages seem to get lost.   Plus as before they can end up in multiple threads.  This latter issue seems to be worse as well with iOS8 but not sure why.
For example one friend set up an iPad with her apple ID and subsequently gave it to her son.  She also has an iPhone. I've been exchanging iMessage/SMS's with her which worked fine until the upgrade.  Then she stopped getting my messages on her iPhone.  Turns out that they were landing on the iPad.  While it may be that she doesn't have things sorted correctly on her iPhone that doesn't change the fact that prior to iOS8 she could get my messages.  So I'd like to designate her and a number of other contacts as SMS only.
Additionally I am seeing more multiple threads from the same contacts.  Not sure why but it seems to have something to do with iOS 8 sucking in additional email addresses, e.g. @icloud.com and subsequently using these in some messages even though the contact is the same person.  I've tried adding the new email address into the contact card I have on file for that person and this simply resulted in two threads with the same contact name.
Really what is up with this and why does Messages need to keep track of all this info?  The only requirement to direct a message between to iDevices should be valid Apple ID's on both with a means to reference this (Phone Number, Apple ID Email Address) in the respective contact.  In the absence of this the message should be sent as SMS.

I have the same problem on iOS 7.0.3. With one particular friend I receive iMessages from her just fine and I can send her iMessages from Mac OS X and Messages on iPad, but Messages on my iPhone keep sending her my messages as Text messages. I send iMessages just fine from the same iPhone. SFChuch, what ios version is your recipient using? Did they sign up on iCloud? I wonder if the problem happens with recipients who are not properly registered on iCloud or some special case like that.

  • Unable to install "Mavericks" as it asks for my 'Admin Password" and it does not work. Have not used it since I got my iMac in 2008. First upgrade to do so. Any solutions please?

I have a 2008 iMac which had Leopard initially and I have upgraded to each new OS without a hitch. I downloaded "Mavericks" and began the install, it asked me for my "Admin Password" which I have never ever used since I set the Mac up, I have it safely tucked away so entered it, it rejected it each time. Am sort of lost now, as if my "Admin P/W" does not work here can I go from here?
I have seen many others with this problem but so far most of the solutions seem to be for the "log in" or "User" password not the Admin one.
I am running Mountain Lion successfully.
I have my original disks as supplied and also a Snow Leopard install disk.
I have seen some info about fixing this via Lion Recovery partition which I must have due to using Mt Lion.
How can I repair this situation.
Thank you to all those who respond.

    Thanks for your reply.
I have visited both the sites you listed but it seems to me that the solutions mentioned are to fix the User or log in p/w's.They do not seem to refer to the admin one again.
I understand about it being just like other user accts but the fixes do not really refer to it only the above two.
I have no problem booting up my Mac, I do not use a log in p/w so my problem is with the Admin p/w that was set up back in 2008. This is what I need to reset etc.
I am quite confused over these pw's as to just what is what and I need to make sure I understand all before I get into deeper trouble following these links.
This Admin p/w that was set up has never been used and is the only p/w I have except for my Apple ID. All previous upgrades only required my user name log in which has no p/w set up.
I hope you can follow me here butI have read so much on this it is becoming very confusing about whcih p/w's are what.

Upgrade of our 10.4.11 laptop to 10.5 is accomplished and we now need to upgrade Quicktime and iTunes; however, the user name and password for the laptop is now not working after the upgrade to 10.5., though it was working prior to the upgrade, for file sharing.

@ BDAqua > I tried your suggestion but no luck. holding opt+command just gave me a blue screen and it rebotted, pushing the disk out of the drive. Yes, the macbook has 1 gb of ram. I realize that the min req. call for 2 gb of ram so i've got an order in for another dimm to put into the machine. Thanks for your suggestions.
@ a_brody > Yes. The machine was plugged into a power source. The disk promts you to do that and i recall aspect this form other installs. Thanks for the reminder tho! ( btw your second post is like greek to me man!)
@ Kuncklesmac > You're right about Snow Leopard being an upgrade from Leopard. I'm aware of this. And yes previously i've been told by Apple that I needed the Box Set (not the family pack.  i am using the family pack for OS Snow Leopard) to upgrade my 10.4.11 mac - they never mentioned adding ram but i figured that out on my own and an apple specialist recommended it when i purchased Snow Leopard and confirmed that I coul duse the Snow Leopard to upgarde from Tiger (10.4.11). I've also read extensively (as i said above) that it isn't necessary (always) to buy the box set. Several 10.4.11 users report having upgraded using the Snow Leopard upgrade disk only (not the Box Set) without trouble on intel macs (also see the apple link i posted). So i'm just ondering how they did it and i cannot.
    Thanks fo rall yor help!

Carefully follow steps 1-9 outlined by wjosten in this post: https://discussions.apple.com/message/13356770#13356770.  This will not, however, avoid wiping any non-purchased media from your phone (ripped CDs, etc.) as this is only synced one way: from your computer to your phone.  You will have to either rebuild your iTunes library with this content and sync again to restore it to your phone, or purchase 3rd party software to copy it from your phone to iTunes prior to syncing (such as Touch Copy).
