Upgrade - Restore Problems

tried upgrading my iPhone 4 software and it failed.  Restore failed with a code -1  Now phone won't work, upgrade or restore.... suggestions?

Hi nledgerwood,
If you are asking if you have to restore your iPhone to update, the answer is "not technically". You can easily update your iPhone by going to Settings > General > Software Update. We definitely recommend doing a backup with either iTunes or iCloud before performing any software updates.

  • IPhone shuts off when I use the internet on the 3G network & I can't upgrade/restore because of network connection error. Any Help?

A few months ago, while on the 3G network, my iPhone 3GS starting turning off randomly when I was using safari or an online app and the battery was somewhere around 5-20%. When this happened the only way to get the phone back on was by fully charging it which sometimes took a few hours even. It wasn't a big deal at the time because it was infrequent and while the phone was at a low battery %. However, in the past few months, around the time I upgraded to iOS 5.1 it started happened more and more often and at higher and higher battery percentages. It is now at a point where my phone shuts off every time I connect to the 3G network regardless of what my battery life is. I have called Rogers several times to complain about this and I have been told it is because of the battery for the most part but I don’t buy it; the problem has got to be more significant than the battery alone because I can listen to music and send texts at anytime and fully use the internet when I am connected to Wi-Fi. I more recently talked to someone in tech support from Rogers who said my phone cannot support the iOS 5.1 software and that is why it is crashing. They also asked if my phone was heating up more now than in the past and it is. They said this was further evidence that my phone was couldn't handle the new software and was basically on overload.  I was told to the best solution was to "Back Up" my iPhone then do a full "Restore". Here is where my next problem comes along. I cannot "Restore" my iPhone without doing an upgrade and every time I attempt to "Upgrade & Restore" an error message pops up that says "There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone "...". The network connection timed out/was reset. -Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later". I have followed all of the protocol that is readily available online to address this problem but still no success. I disabled my firewall and anti-virus programs, I have ensured my connection is active and stable, I have upgraded to the newest iTunes, I have uninstalled iTunes and all apple programs in the correct order then reinstalled iTunes, I have disabled my DNS cache. Nothing works.
If you have any advise whatsoever please share as it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

I was actually able to upgrade to the newest software, iOS 5.1.1 without connecting to my computer/iTunes but rather directly through my phone when I was home on Wi-Fi. After the upgrade I plugged my phone into a different USB port at the back of my computer and was able to do a full restore. I really don't think the USB port had anything to do with it because I use the same front USB port all the time with my external hard drive and other devices wuth no problems at all; regardless of what the actual solution was, I am now able to connect to iTunes and upgrade/restore without any problems so that half of my problem is resolved.
I have yet to leave my house since doing the upgrade/restore so I am not sure if the problem with my phone crashing when I use the interent on the 3G is still an issue. I will test it today and tomorrow and give you an update.
    Thanks

  • Osx Lion Restore Problems

So I decided to restore my new 2011 21.5 inch imac back to osx lion, I decided this because apparently my macintosh hd wont let my partition it in anyway and i cant put windows on here unless I do a fresh install of lion, then I can do boot camp.
So I booted into the recovery manager option when you start up your computer and I clicked on restore osx lion.
It took about 6 hours to download, and then the computer rebooted, and now I dont know what to do, I went back to the restore lion option in that menu and it makes me download it all again.
Does anyone know what I can do?
Id  be happy if someone could help with my partitioning problem if they cant help with my restore problem.
    Thanks for the time,
    Dan

Lion Recovery Assistant should only take a few minutes to download unless you're on the slowest Internet connection known to man. Also OS X is NOT like MS Windows that has to be reinstalled at every hickup. It is INCREDIBLY stable. On the computer I'm using right now in the 4+ years I've owned it it has NEVER needed the OS reinstalled and is totally stable. I have upgraded it from Tiger to Leopard to Snow Leopard and now Lion. It has been through countless updates and still continues to work like it is a new machine.

  • I purchased mu iPhone4 in Ukraine and now I'm in India. So can I upgrade/restore iOS in India?, I purchased mu iPhone4 in Ukraine and now I'm in India. So can I upgrade/restore iOS in India?

R/Sir, I want to onow that can I upgrade/restore mu iPhone4 in another country (India) if this is purchased into another country (Ukraine)?

Because currentyl i'm using iOS 6.1.3 in my iPhone4 and want to upgrade it with iOS 7.0. but with iTunes i'm unable to do it due to error code 3194.
I tried everything to solve that problem. Like :
    - tried to upgrade it into 5 different computer with 3 different type of internet connections (DSL & broadband),
    - uninstall the antivirus and disable firewall,
    - change the dns server from default to google public dns server,
    - tried "metsh winsock reset" and "ipconfig /flushdns",
    - tried to restore with same iOS (6.1.3),
    - download latest version of iTunes 11.1,
    - fully update my OS,
    - also tried to update/restore from recovery mode/DFU mode.
    Etc etc
But still problem remains same (error code 3194).
    Thanks & Regards

Do you get this window when you hold down the Command+Option keys and launch iPhoto?
If not then you're not holding down both keys long enough.

When I click on iPhoto icon I get a box that reads "The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto."  Whether I hit Quit or Upgrade the problem is not fixed.  Any suggestions?  Yes, I have tried Command Option iPhoto..no luck.  I think I may have hit Upgrade the first time.  I really need this to be fixed ASAP.  Thanks for your help.

    Assuming iPhoto 09 or later:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Logic Pro 8 upgrade MAJOR PROBLEM
There was never a problem since you tried to upgrade from a pirated copy of Logic 9
Why did you even think this could go well?
I dont have any original packaging since i moved and i lost it.
Did you check Lost and Found?
I am in dire need as i run a studio.
Yet, you let your brother load a pirated copy of Logic 9.
    I need help ASAP!
    You really don't need help.
Why is it that when I see POSTS like these that the person registers the same day.

  • Restore problem after upgrading, how to read the b...

    Hi there,
I've a N95 and had Software version V11 on it. I made a backup and everything went well.
I then upgraded my N95 to V20 (not V12, i only could see V20) and tried to restore the backup afterwards...
Now the restore starts ok but after 67% it stops totally....
    Anyone familiar with this ?
Then i read something about first upgrading to V12 then make a backup again (after a restore) because this would be compatable with v20 ?????
I now have V20 but no "restore", is there a way to "read out" the backup file ans selectivily restore items ?
    thanks in advance,

    Hi.
I am having the same problem now. When it restored, I can't reinstall PC Suite because fail to remove the new version. I tried removing via Control Panel. It was removed but yet it says fail to uninstall PC Suite. How else do you uninstall the PC Suite if not via Control Panel/ Add Remove Programs.
I tried installing the older version of the PC Suite but then it says that it cannot be done because there is a newer version installed.
Well, don't know what to do because I have tried getting advise from friends and that also fails.
Anyway, if there is anybody who can assist, I would be most grateful.
    Cheers

  • [SOLVED]After yesterday's upgrade screen problem

So, yesterday i have upgraded to the newest kernel and udev. Now, the problem is that (i have XFCE) when laptop goes into "switch off screen" mode (in xfce4-power-manager) i cannot recall the screen back to normal (it remains black). I have to suspend it and wake it up in order the screen is visible/normal again (haven't tried to just kill X).

    hi,
I have the same problem(intel Corporation Mobile 915GM). And I found the following can solve the half of the problem
    Section "Device"
        Identifier    "Device0"
Driver        "vesa" # <---replacing intel by vesa
    EndSection
But after "kill X", the screen of the framebuffer becomes quite horrible as showed in the pic.

  • Ipod Shuffle Restore problem

I was trying to add songs to my ipod shuffle today. but it told me to restore it as it is currupt; and so I did. However, when I clicked restore on itunes 7.0.2, the progress bar began to move; but i waited for over 2 hours, and it still didnt complete.
I could still listen to the music on my ipod as well as carry everyday tasks with it. But my computer refused to restore it.
p.s. it didnt show the ipod in windows explorer nor in itunes, only in device manager. I fixed this by using the "Safetly Remove Hardware" tool, then replugging it in.
Also when using the ipod software to update my ipod, it crashed.
I'd suspect it as an usb fault, but im not sure.
Please help me solve this problem, thanks in advance!

after my 20G crashed a co worker loaned me his shuffle to hold me over until I made a new purchase. It seems like every time you upgrade in ITunes it creates problems. I have experienced mutiple problems with this guys Shuffle (corrupt messages, Ipod not recognized in USB). After several restores on another PC I was able to load my music again only to not have all the songs play on the shuffle. When docked, I can see them but they won't play. I have restored, deleted, reloaded everything. I don't know what else to do.
The problem seems to be with purchased songs only.
I find the docking to a new pc helps with the restoring issue. Once back to the factory settings, try docking to pc with Itunes library and see what happens.
If anyone can weigh in on my issue, I would appreciate the help.
I can't live without my music!!

  • Post-Upgrade Mail Problems

After upgrading on both a Mac Pro and MacBook Pro I encountered several problems with Mail.
    On MacBook Pro:
Unable to receive email for certain accounts
Was able to delete the offending accounts and add them and this solved the problem.
    On Mac Pro:
Unable to receive email for certain accounts
Am unable to add accounts.  When going through either File: Add Account... or Preferences the result is the same: nothing happens when Add Account... is selected or the + in Preferences is selected.
I've been working with Apple Support and had them remote access the desktop and they seem to be scratching their heads.  Thought I would try here and see if anyone else has not been able to get the File: Add Account... window to appear and how the problem was fixed.  I had no problems whatsoever with Mail prior to the upgrade.
    Thanks for any help!

    I updated a 10.6.4 server to 10.6.5.
The server is open directory master, and yes, there were huge problems with the following symptoms :
    - LDAP server broken
    - directory services process using more than 100% cpu
If I checked a directory services log, there was the following error :
Misconfiguration detected in hash 'Global SID'
    Group 'com.apple.sharepoint.group.5' (/Local/Default) - ID 406
    Group 'com.apple.accessremoteae' (/Local/Default) - ID 406
So there was a duplicate not in the LDAP configuration but in the local users directory : a duplicate of ID 406.
As I didn't have time to restore all server from backup, I was able to delete the duplicate ID, restore directory services from backup, and then it came back to normal.
Other services were not touche, but I don't use email services.
    DNS was not broken.

  • Disk utility restore problem: cannot drag internal hdd to destination field

I'm currently trying to restore a time machine backup after my boot ssd recently failed, but am having trouble restoring the backup to my secondary internal drive in the optical bay. My set up isthe following:
Failed ssd in primary hdd  bay of MacBook Pro (mid 2010)
1tb secondary  hdd in optical drive bay with time machine backup of failed ssd.
    2tb external drive
The following is what I have done so far...
    1. Booted into the secondary internal drive and restored the time machine backup onto the external USB drive.
    2. Booted from the restored backup on the USB drive (this now looks like my old computer again but is very slow as its USB 2.0)
    3. Partitioned the secondary internal drive in the optical bay.
    4. Now I want to copy the restored volume on my USB drive to the secondary internal drive in the optical bay.
When I open disk utility's restore function I can put my original volum in the source field, however, it will not let me put either partition of my internal drive in the destination field. It has no problem putting other partitions from the USB drive in the destination field - just will not allow anything from the internal drive. Why is this?
I'm thinking it could possibly be because it is in the optical drive bay and apple has prevented copying full volumes into this bay, but then again surely this would be needed when burning DVDs at some stage. Any ideas? Many thanks in advance for any help.

I managed to complete the restore and you may have been right - I booted from the internal hdd then restored the time machine backup stored on the usb drive to a different partition on the internal hd. Seemed to work fine now running of the hd in the optical drive bay but has still crashed a couple of times which is pretty odd. Perhaps the failed ssd in the main drive bay is still causing a bit of a nuisance (it registers for the first 3 minutes after booting up then disappears). Also didnt notice the responsiveness too much when upgrading from hd to ssd, but going the other way back to hd - can definitely now tell the difference. Painfully slow at times! I need to get that ssd replaced I think.  Anyway thanks for your advice!

what's the problem ????? anyone help me...
I have substituted XXXXX for the name of my backup file
I really need some help here. My database was lost and I need to restore the backup. We have a lot of hours of cataloguing and metatagging in there!
    thanks

    Hello Everyone,
I haven't solved the problem, but I have found the root of it. The short answer is DO NOT RUN FINAL CUT SERVER 1.1.1 ON A MACHINE WITH SNOW LEOPARD SERVER!!!
I finally realized through a long and painful process of trying to restore our database, rolling back to Leopard server, upgrading again to Snow Leopard Server, and going back again to Leopard Server, that ALL of our database backups created after the Snow Leopard Server upgrade cannot be restored in FCServer 1.1.1. I don't know if FCServer 1.5 will read them, and I'm not about to spend the money to find out.
I'm really disappointed here. Apple does say that FCServer 1.5 is the compatible version to run with Snow Leopard server, but they certainly don't warn of the disaster that could occur if you try to run FCserver 1.1.1 with Snow Leopard Server.
Right now I'm trying to figure out how to extract the data from hundreds of items that have been entered so that we don't have to re-enter them all again.
So again, be warned. If you are upgrading to Snow Leopard Server, upgrade your FCServer too. At least I hope that's all it takes. For our part, we're back to Leopard Server and staying there for a while.

  • Time machine/iPhoto restore problem

I upgraded from my late 2009 iMac to the new iMac. I used my time machine drive to completely restore everything. When I opened iPhoto all of the photos seem to be there. The problem is that iPhoto went from being 73 gb in size to 65 gb in size. Does anyone know why this would happen? Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

There is an "iPod cache" file in your iPhoto library that doesn't get backed up. A few users have reported that it can eat up many GBs.
