Upgrade RV042 v1.1

Dear,
I'm trying to update the firmware of RV042, but it is showing error. I found the new version with extension .bin, but my equipament have a old version .rmt. how to proceed with the update.
Serial number: AHY18HC01147
Model: RV042 v1.1
Current version: 1.3.12.19-tm.rmt
I need to upgrade to last version: v4.0.2.08-tm.bin

Edson,
That firmware upgrade is for the version 3 rv042.  You have the version 2 and it will not allow you to upgrade to it.
As of now, there is not an update for the version 2.

  • RV042 Connectivity Loss after upgrade to 1.3.13.02

After upgrading an RV042 from 1.3.12.19 to 1.3.13.02, it loses connectivity after several hours.
RV042 WAN1 is connected to cable modem (WAN2/DMZ is unused), configured to obtain IP Address.
Cold booting all devices, RV042, AP & Cable modem, re-established connectivity. Only to lose connectivity again several hours later.
Reset RV042 to factory default via reset switch and cleared log. Minimal configuration applied (domain name, hostname, ntp, WAN1 bw=8000).
Checked early this morning and no connectivity. Summary screen showed the same IP on WAN1 port. All appeared normal.
Clicked renew, and connectivity was re-established. Same IP as before.
The RV042, when running 1.3.12.19, would run for many months without a hiccup.
This is the log entry when I clicked 'renew':
    Aug 18 04:12:40 2011
    System   Log
    DHCP   lease info: ip[68.202.x.x] mask[255.255.240.0] gw[68.202.x.x] host_name[starwars1rv042rtr]   domain_name[cfl.rr.com] server_name[NOT GIVEN] dns_server1[65.32.5.111]   dns_server2[65.32.5.112] ttl[64] mtu[576] renew_time[2011/8/18 05:05:10]   expire_time[2011/8/18 05:12:40]
Any ideas what might be the issue?
Clicking 'renew' did re-establish connectivity, but I'm not sure if it's a dhcp issue or not.
If I read the log entry correctly, the router has the IP lease for an hour, which means it renews several times successfully. Connectivity is down in the morning after several hours go by without use. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. Again, nothing changed but the code and the RV042 ran without problems for months with the 1.3.12.19 code.

    Jasbryan,
Please review attached log file (pdf). I checked @ 10 hours after I manually 'renewed' the IP address from the summary page early this morning. This afternoon, the RV042 was on-line and connectivity was normal, not off-line as I thought it might be.
Instead of disturbing the router, I reviewed the log file a little closer and it appears the DHCP process was confused by erroneous time. I don't have the logs immediately following the upgrade a few days ago, but I suspect time was incorrect then as well.
The router restart Aug 17 09:52:36 2011, yesterday, was the manual reset (rear panel button). Note system/log time when the system comes back up after the reset: "Dec 31 19:00:01 2002".
Then, note the calculated expire_time: "2003/1/1 06:34:47", clearly in the past, and probably the cause of the problem. The system clock is corrected after it gets it's lease, when it can get to a NTP server (but too late for the current lease).
Early this morning, after the manual 'renew' from the summary page, the expire_time is correctly calculated in the future: 2011/8/18 05:12:40 (calculated off the present/correct time).
The actual expire_time/lease_renew occur on time: Aug 18 05:12:51 2011
I expect the dhcp process to work properly again later today and should see a log entry @ 2011/8/18 17:12:42.
    2nd automatic renew occured at: Aug 18 17:12:51 2011
Conclusion; the dhcp process was confused by incorrect system clock which it set the lease expire time in the past.
    Regards,
    Jay

  • Time-out problems with RV320 (after upgrade from RV042)

    config:
    dual wan
    WAN1: 4G router (DHCP) - approx 25Mbit/ 8Mbit
    WAN2: PPOE (DSL) - 1 Mbit/ 0.2 Mbit
worked with a RV042 before and upgraded to a RV320 now.
    all other things are unchanged.
    3 problems - 2 solved/ not critical - one still open:
    a) not critical:  DHCP Status does not include all devices (changing view - but all-time problem)
I would suspect a software bug.... DHCP itself works perfectly/ IPs are assigned (just not shown in status)
    b) solved (at least for now):  internet connection featured time-outs; after many tries, disabling the SPI in the firewall helped
btw: this only happend for the WAN1 - WAN2 worked  (or is that slow that the additonal wait time did not matter ;-)
    c) very annoying: exchange connection (from Outlook client to external exchange) still has time-outs (mostly the whole mail client hangs/ ends to be restarted).
As soon as I disable WAN1, it works!  But it´s not the LTE WAN itself - switching back to the RV042 does not show the same symptom.
I tried: include IP into local DNS (in general I work with google DNS servers - but changing that does not help either), opening all traffic for teh realevant IPs and disabling the firewall completely.  no positive results....
    thanks for any hints....

I agree with you on a, probably a bug of some sort.
b is an issue I've seen before, and even on similar bandwidth (25/5) on my rv016.  What was able to figure out is that the carrier (ISP) is sending about 4k/sec of ICMP packets to the router, which in turn makes the router think it's under attack so it drops the connection.  As you can tell, disabling the SPI helps.  For me, putting another router in front of my rv016 (on 2 of 3 wans) was my only 'permanent' solution.
c sounds like there's a protocol binding/static route in the rv042 that you need to add to the rv320.  I'd check that first.

  • RV042 firmware upgrade failure to 4.0.2.08-tm

Tried upgrading my firmware to 4.0.2.08-tm and now I cannot log in via the web interface. The router boots and gets out to the internet. It still allows incoming vpn connections. The login screen displays and will display an error message if I use incorrect credentials, but if I log in properly and am directed to the routers web config homepage at "192.168.1.1/default.htm", I get a 404 error message. Telnet does not work either (not sure if it's on, never used it before)
    404 Not Found
The requested server-side-includes filename, /usr/local/EasyAccess/www/htdocs/default.htm, does not seem to exist.
As if the web pages after the login screen got removed or corrupted after the update.
    SN is NKS10403247
I realize there is a newer version. Attempted the upgrade incrementally since I could not find documentation specifiying if that was required or not.
    Thanks!

    Dear Scott Poniatowski,
My name is Friedrich Scharzn and I work for the Cisco Small Business Support Center in Europe.
Can you please let me know  which version of the RV042 you have or/and which firmware you have at the moment? If your Router is not hardware version v3, then you won;t be able to update it to 4.02.08-tm.
    Many thanks,

  • RV042 upgrade fail

    Hello,
I  have the a problem, when I do a upgrade of a SMB RV042 and the PC that contain the upgrade file is in the same  segment of the RV042 the upgrades is succesfull, but when the PC is in  another subnet, upgrade fails.
There are conectivity betwen the two subnets and there are not a firewall.
    Someone knows why?

    Thank tekliu,
I do the proccess by the port LAN, the RV042 has a route to reach the diferent subnet.

  • RV042 - I have customer who upgraded to 20 meg cable internet service and can only get 10 meg thru the router.

RV042 - I have customer who upgraded to 20 meg cable internet service and can only get 10 meg thru the router. The customer had upgrade to a 20 meg cable internet service from a 10 meg service.   The customer is only able to get the 20 meg service going from cable modem to PC.  If he goes thru the RV042 router, he is only getting up to 10.7 down and 1.37 up.  Additional steps taken….He had a Linksys SRW224P switch connected to the RV042 router and we had disconnected this switch for testing purposes.   We performed the speed test again and we get the same speed results so we know the switch is not the issue. He had upgraded to firmware version 1.3.12.19 – TM Feb 13, 2009 – tested speed and no change. We accessed the web management interface and tried several modifications.   This includes the following…..-       We disabled the firewall – no change-       We disabled SPI with is the Stateful Packet Inspection (I was thinking this one would do it) – no change in speed.-       We disabled DoS (Deny of Service) – no change.-       We set MTU to Manual and tested various byte increments based on MTU ping testing. – Once again, no change in speed.  He is NOT using Load balancing on the routerHe has NO access rules but does have a few port forwards. Finally, with each change, he is saving the changes on the router.

You are expecting 20MB throughput on a $150 router?  Well, ok, maybe.. Can you check on your router or switch if the port is set or auto negotiated to 10 or 100?  That could explain 10MB limit (although technically a 10Mb port is considered 20Mb theoretical max throughput as 100Mb port is considered 200Mb per Cisco).  So maybe you ended up with 10/half somehow?  MTU 1500 would also be good for that connection I think and to try to get max throughput.

  • RV042 Upgrade Firmware

Hi, first sorry for my bad english and my maybe stupid question, but I don't know how to find a similar post (because of the keywords).
    I've got a Small Business RV042 router PID VID: RV042 V03 and firmware version: v4.0.4.02-tm (Jul  4 2011 13:30:56)
I've seen the latest firmware is 4.2.2.08 (V3 hardware required)
With my PID VID it seems I've got the V3, but I would like to know if I can upgrade with this brand new version or if I must first upgrade all the other firmware?
Thanks for your help and answers!
    Simon

Hi Simon, you should be able to upgrade directly. The release notes usually detail any prerequisites.

  • RV042 when using both WAN with same DNS servers doesn't work properly

Hi there, I have a RV042 and upgraded it to the latest firmware available. The problem is the following:
    when I have on WAN1:
    PROVIDER A - MUNDIVOX
    IP: 200.201.190.202
    SM: 255.255.255.248
    GW: 200.201.190.201
    DNS1: 200.196.48.20
    DNS1: 200.196.48.21
    and on WAN2:
    PROVIDER B - TRINN
    IP: 189.113.129.230
    SM: 255.255.255.252
    GW: 189.113.129.229
    DNS1: 189.113.128.3
    DNS2: 189.113.128.2
The load balance works fine and network redirection works fine I can route all trafic from ips 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.50 and specific protocols such as UDP on port 5060 for my SIP Phone for ips 192.168.0.101 to 192.168.0.120 works fine.
The problem is when I change WAN1 to:
    PROVIDER A - TRINN
    IP: 189.113.132.2
    SM: 255.255.255.248
    GW: 189.113.132.1
    DNS1: 189.113.128.3
    DNS2: 189.113.128.2
And Wan 2 I keep the same provider that would be the same as Provider for WAN1 now:
    PROVIDER B - TRINN
    IP: 189.113.129.230
    SM: 255.255.255.252
    GW: 189.113.129.229
    DNS1: 189.113.128.3
    DNS2: 189.113.128.2
The load balace simply doesnt work, all the IPs in the range of 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.50 that should be using WAN1, uses WAN2, in fact, as far as I could see all my trafic goes with that configuration to WAN2 only, but if I remove the cable from WAN2, all trafic goes to WAN1, so, very strange... if I put back on WAN1 the MUNDIVOX provider from situation 1, everything gets back to the way it should be.
If someone can help I would appreciate,
    Regards,
    Cristiano

  • RV082 RV042 RV042G v4 firmware bug?

    Models affected:  RV082 v3 (primarily)  -  also RV042 v3 and RV042G
    Symptoms:
    1) web admin GUI stops responding
    2) internet speed slows or stops completely
    Temporary Fix:
    1) power-cycle the router, everything works fine for a random period of time
    Notes:
    1) happens after a month or so for RV082 that is giving me trouble.
    2) seems to affect a large number of units but not all units
    3) this has been going on for a YEAR OR MORE without resolution
    4) also, I can only program this router with IE - for firefox, I can't get past the certificate warning and to the login prompt.
    5) could this be related to https login and broken code regarding SSL certificate or its integration into the web GUI?
    6)  yes, I have reset the unit to factory defaults and reprogrammed
yes, I have tried different firmware revisions
yes, I am on the current firmware
yes, I have re-issued the SSL certificate
Maybe the team writing the firmware could get their hands on some of the reported units with these issues and see how they behave, figure out what the real problem is so we can stop beating our heads against the wall?

    What Samir said...
    FWIW - here's what I've settled on:
RV042 v1 with the last v1 firmware.  I have a couple clients with these.  I want them to die but they won't, so they are still running fine. Some develop that squealing sound in the power supply section.  Had one or two fail and upgraded to RV082
RV042 v3 (not sure which firmware)  I had one client with this, NEVER had an issue
RV042G - never tried one, and I don't plan on it  (maybe an RV320, although I prefer rackmountable units)
RV082 v1 with last v1 firmware (v2 firmware will break it) -  several of my clients have these, and I use one at home.  They just run and run and run, and occasionally one might need to have the CMOS battery replaced.  I just configured one of these with a Dual-WAN and it works great.  I prefer the v4 firmware UI that comes on the v3 units.
    RV082 v2 = JUNK!!
RV082 v3 - firmware v4.1.1.01-sp is stable and has been running one of my clients for 2 years no issues.  firmware v4.2.3.03 came loaded on a new one that was purchased in 2014 and that has also been running fine.  The first gets heavy internet use with skype, audio streaming, websites.  The latter has 9 VoIP phones (phonebooth) behind it and using bandwidth priority rules to share a 800kb upstream.
** v4 firmwares are unified across all v3 hardware (RV042, 82, 42G) - I only trust the two versions listed directly above.  If you change/update to one of these firmwares to resolve issues, reset the router to defaults, flash the firmware, maybe reset it to defaults again just to be sure, and then program it from scratch.  Save your config from the stable firmware and then you can use that to reload if you do more resetting later.
    RECOMMENDATIONS:
**  I love that the RV082 is rackmountable, has an internal PSU, and has an 8-port switch.  It's only a few bucks more so just forget the RV042 and get the faster/better option.
** The RV325 is a compelling successor to the RV082.  (basically an RV082 with Gigabit ports).   It has better firewall throughput and processing, also has newer features for QoS and multiple DHCP on several vLANs.  I picked up one last year to replace an RV082 but I figured out a solution before swapping the routers.  I haven't been brave enough nor had enough time to give it a real test yet.  Hoping to do so soon.  It has external PSU which is not so great but I can deal with that - at least it's rackmountable.
(I have retracted my comment about the ISA series.  I configured one running on early firmware and was impressed, but evidently they had issues and Cisco stopped making them after a relatively short run, which is a bad sign).

  • RV042 Firmware Version 1 does not have VLan setting enable.

    Hi
I am using the RV042 whereby I had seen the firmware PDF whereby ver 3. and ver 4 firmware comes with Vlan options.
But for RV042 version 1, I do not see the Vlan under the system management sections.
Is there any way to go around it :P

If you have an older version, you can upgrade the firmware to the highest for that hardware.  I would expect that vlan was in the highest v1 firmware for the rv042 as it was for the rv016 v1.

  • RV042 Firmware flash utility

Where has this tool gone? I have tried to flashing the RV042 it by telnetting to the router but it does not seem to work. It accepts the flash but afterward it still gives a solid diag light, no dhcp and no web utility access. I would like to try the utiliy if you could provide a working link to it or another solution.
    Thanks
    Ben

I managed to get this working. I found a copy of the flash utility here:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/routers/ps9923/ps9925/RV042_Firmware.zip
I could not find it anywhere on the cisco site but the DDWRT wiki had a link to it.
Here is what I did. Assign the PC an IP of 192.168.1.5
Hold down the reset button with the power unplgged on the RV042.
Plug the unit in while still holding the reset button, after 4-5 seconds when the orange diag is flashing let go of the reset button, the router is ready to receive the TFTP
Run the RV042_1.3.7.2_050727.exe (TFTP upgrade utility)
Router will reboot when it is finished. When access has now been restored.
I spent 5 hours searching for this flash last night and it is not found anywhere on the cisco/linksys sites by searching.
I was able to flash the most current firmware through the web utility after this. There is no visual indication when you click upgrade so it appears like nothing is happeneing but just wait for the confirmation that it is done.

  • RV042 caching issues?

    Hello,
After installing RV042 I've started expiriencing  strange issue. It looks like there is a caching mechanism inside the  router. Almost every time I enter a page it loads with no CSS styles or  images. I have to hit refresh button several times to get the page  displayed properly. The same problem happens using any browser and on  each machine connected to this router: Vista, XP and 7. Here is an  example how it looks when I try to enter ebay for the first session:
Here is how it  looks after I hit refresh button:
    Any ideas? Thanks!
CISCO as usual is extremely "useful" :-/

Well, I can honestly say that, me, personally, have never seing something like this before.
In any case, what I can recommend is to check if you are running the latest version of the firmware, which is 1.3.12.19-tm.
Here is the link to download it. http://tools.cisco.com/support/downloads/go/PlatformList.x?sftType=Small+Business+Router+Firmware&mdfid=282414010&treeName=Routers&mdfLevel=MODEL&url=null&modelName=Cisco+RV042+4-port+10%2F100+VPN+Router+-+Dual+WAN&isPlatform=N&treeMdfId=268437899&modifmdfid=null&imname=&hybrid=Y&imst=N
When you do the upgrade, reset the device to factory defaults and reconfigure it manually.
That may take care of the issue, if it doesn't then give us a call at 866-606-1866.
    Hope this helps

  • Router RV042 problem

My Cisco RV042 router cannot perform their featured functionality in either Smart Link Back up or Load Balance modes.
E.g  a) In load Balance Mode WAN 2 will be tunnelingtrafic as primary even though WAN 1  is actually the primary tunnel.
           b) In Load balance (auto) Mode, traffic will continue to be tunneled through say WAN 2 port even though the bandwidth on that network has been saturated. Packets will not be spilled over to the other WAN port i.e WAN 1 in this scenario.
    Attemts for a solution:
a)Upgraded the Firware to version 4.2.3.03-20140319 on one of the units but this attempt could still not resove the issues. The other units came up with a  "connection to device time out" each time I attemped to do a firware upgrade.
b)I reset to factory default but the issues remain the same.
I will be grateful if you can suggest a way foward on this problem.
    Robert

Check your bandwidth settings for each wan.  If the router thinks you have more bandwidth on a particular wan than you do, it will never move to the other wan.

  • RV042 Load Balancing - Not Balancing

I recently purchased an RV042 ver.3 Dual WAN router to replace my ver.2 router. I have found that the load balancing feature is not working like it did in the ver.2 router. Using the Nice Trace app on my iPad, I could see the ver.2 router toggle between the 2 WAN inputs. However, the ver.3 router seems to remain fixed on one of the WAN inputs and never switches to the other. I have upgraded the firmware to the latest v4.2.2.08, but that did not change the load balancing. Has anyone else seen this, and is there a fix?

Is there any particular reason that made you move to the v3 router?  If not, put the v2 one back in service.  Each version of these routers have different issues, and if you have one working that meets all your needs, just leave it alone.
That being said, have you checked the setting on the v3 to see if it's in failover?  Also, are there any protocol bindings?  Have you entered the correct amount of bandwidth for each LAN?  This affects the load balancing quite a bit.
