Upgrade Satellite P 105 to 2x2GB DDR2 800 MHZ

Hello everybody,
I need to ask if i upgrade my bios to the latest version; can i install 2x2gb DDR2 800 MHZ instead the 667 MHZ?
Thank you

Dear DrSeuss
You can definitely purchase your own memory and it will definitely NOT void your warranty as incorrectly suggested by Zerimar. Here are Apple's instructions for the current aluminium iMac:

  • Replacing the PC2-5300 DDR2 667 MHz RAM with the PC2-6400 DDR2 800 MHz RAM?

    Good afternoon,
I'm currently thinking about purchasing a MacBook Pro 4,1-2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo that has 2 GB of the PC2-5300 DDR2 667 MHz of RAM, but has a BUS speed of 800 MHz. If I do purchase this machine I plan on replacing the 2 GB of memory with 4 GB, but I was wondering if anyone knows if it would be possible to put in the PC2-6400 DDR2 800 MHz model of RAM instead of the PC2-5300 DDR2 667 MHz model of RAM? The reason why I'm asking this question is because the BUS speed in this "early" 2008 MacBook Pro model is at 800 MHz, which is why I'm thinking the PC2-6400 800 MHz of RAM might work. I would appreciate any helpful and productive insights to my question that anyone could give me. Thank you.

No. It only uses PC2-5300. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231135
    G.SKILL Kit 39.99 shipped.

  • Satellite Pro U300-143 Ram DDR2 800 supported?

Hello, I'm new of the forum.
Someone know if it's possible to use DDR2 800 to replace old 667?
The bus of the mainboard is also going at 800.
    Thank you.

    Hi
It makes no sense to use faster modules if the chipset would not support the FSB speed of 800Mhz. the FSB would slow down the memory speed to the same speed which is supported by front side bus.
I recommend checking you chipset. Then you will know, what FSB speed is supported.
If FSB would support 800Mhz, then you can use such modules.

  • P965 Neo support Aeneon 1GB DDR2 800 module???

HI there, i got a MSI P965 New mobo with me... currently running on 1 GB Kingston DDR2 667 Mhz... planning to upgrade to 2 x 1GB Aeneon DDR2 800 Modules... does tis mobo support it??? coz in the manual it stated 1GB DDR2 800 not supported... thanks for expert advice

    Hello downcast,
    Quote
coz in the manual it stated 1GB DDR2 800 not supported
If I am not mistaken, this statement is no longer part of the manual.  At least I was not able to find it in the latest manual on the product page:
    http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=manual&maincat_no=1&prod_no=265
In any case: The limitation it mentions do not refer to the memory capacity of a given module (1 GigaByte), but to the implementation/organisation of chips on that module.
Compare the datasheets of the following corsair modules for example:
    TWIN2X1024 - 6400 C4
    --> http://www.corsair.com/_datasheets/TWIN2X1024-6400C4.pdf
    Quote
    Implemented using 64M x 8 DDR2 SDRAMs [64x8 = 512 Mbit].
The limitation only applys, if you are using memory modules whose capacity is "implemented using 128M x 8 SDRAMs [128x8=1024 Mbit= 1 GBit].
As long as the actual chips on your 1-GByte-modules are organized as 64M x 8, you should have no problem @800 MHz.

  • Detection ram ddr2 800

    hello
    this is my config
    q6600
    msi p45 neo-f
ddr2 800 mhz kingston dual channel
    dd samsung 500 go sata
my problem :  the maindboard detect ddr2 memory at a bad frequency
the bios shows that the memory at a frequency of 667 MHz instead of 800 mhz
    thank you for your help

The BIOS reads the SPD-Profiles from the SPD-Chips of your memory modules.  If there is no table for 400 MHz (DDR2-800) the BIOS cannot automatically detect the modules as DDR2-800 sticks. Your modules probably are DDR2-667 modules with a manufacturer's "permission" to overclock them to DDR2-800 speed.  Check the Kingston Datasheet for those memory sticks to know the recommended voltage & Timings to overlock the modules and then manually overclock your memory using these settings.

  • DDR2 667 shows up as DDR2 800 for some reason,,

    Hi all,
    My "problem" is the following..
I just bought myself 2 new Kingston 2GB DDR2 667 memory modules. Thus expanding the memory of my macbook to 4GB's of ddr2 667. Now when i enter the system specs @ " About this mac" the system tells me i am actualy running 4Gb's of DDR2 800 mhz memory..
I thought the white MB881M/n macbook didnt support 800mhz memory..
    Now my question is:
Would it be wise to buy 800mhz ddr2 and use THAT in stead of using the 667mhz memory wich the machine is obviously overclocking.
And IF the machine is actualy overclocking the current memory, could it be harmfull? Will it actualy be faster at 800 then at 667? Is the machine actualy overclocking the memory, or is it just a bug in the system showing 800mhz in stead of 667?
I thought the macbook i have couldnt support 800mhz but if for some reason it can i think it would be "wise" to put the "real deal" 800mhz in it..
    Cheers

Well, OS X has no built-in capability to overclock RAM. Doing so requires overclocking the bus and that would require special software (I don't think any such software exists for Intel Macs.)
The documentation I have even on the Early 2009 White Macbook specifies DDR2-667 MHz RAM. I don't know why System Profiler is reporting 800 MHz.
Here's my (multi-part) theory, and it's from thinking about all the reports we've been hearing about older generation MacBooks and the newer white MacBooks.
People have been reporting that the lastest (early 2009) white MacBook does actually use PC2-6400/DDR2 800 memory and runs it at native speed. It's not actually "overclocking" anything; it's actually capable of it even if not documented by Apple. It's using the same NVIDIA chipset as the Unibody MacBooks, and they're capable of using PC3-8500/DDR3 1066, so it's not a stretch to believe that they're capable of using DDR2 800. Intel's latest chipsets are capable of using DDR2 or DDR3 modules, but the type is going to be limited to the physical socket type.
All reports are that correctly labelled PC2-6400/DDR2 800 memory doesn't work properly in any of the earlier MacBooks that specify PC2-5300/DDR2 667 except in cases where it's mixed with one slower speed module. One would think that the SPD should contain secondary settings, but that doesn't seem to help it work unless there's another slower speed module that forces the memory controller in the chipset to operate both at the same speed.
A few people who have purchased Kingston (especially the KVR "ValueRAM Series") DDR2 667 modules have reported similar incompatibility as with clearly labeled
    DDR2 800 modules. Here's one report:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9507719
My final theory is that these modules are sold by Kingston as DDR2 667 but are in fact DDR2 800 modules. This would A) cause the older MacBooks to not recognize it alone and B) cause the newer MacBooks to run it at a faster native speed.

  • MSI 975X Power Up Edition and E6600 and DDR 800 MHZ Ram, NOT RIGHT SPEED.

I've just got my system up and running but it aint detecting the ram speed correctly or even the FSB on the CPU. I have included some pics to show you. sometimes at post it says 533, and sometimes 667. Any ideas?
    I am running a E6600 and Crucial Ballistic DDR2 800 MHZ Memory.

MSI has an online Customer Service for you to send your issues or questions over. Usually it take few days to reply. This forum, is maintained by user, just like you and me. Happy users stay to help the unhappy users, and sharing experiences and valuable information. However, most if not all users don't make BIOS changes, modifying BIOS etc This is still mainly MSI's job.
The moderators have MSI contact where we can get faster response and more direct support. We do channel issues over here which we think is a true MSI issue. But 90% of the issue here are mainly user-setup problem. So we need to filter them out.
So, is this issue a MSI issue or a user-setup problem?
I just hope it will be fixed asap
I always loved msi motherboards because i never had problems. I don't like asus and the only motherboard available when i got my E6600 was the Asus P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe but the motherboard was bad (i hate asus even more now) so i could return it and change it for a msi motherboard The 975x powerd up edition And now (for the first time with msi) i have problems again. I just want my system to run like it should run

  • Windows 8 Upgrade for Satellite C870D-105 possible?

    Hi out there,
    I own a Satellite C870D-105 Partnumber PSCA2E.
Does anyone know whether it is possible to upgrade my Win7 Home Premium to Win 8 Pro via the Windows Upgrade Assistant?
So far I haven't been successful and the part numbe does not appear in the compatibility matrix offered by Toshiba.
Is there any chance that this model will be included?
I bought it with the marketing promise that is possible to upgrade.
    Have I been fooled?

    *@ mgoehring*
First of all you have to install Win 8 system.
Then after Win 8 installation you could use the Toshiba Win 8 Upgrade Assistant to get Toshiba Win 8 drivers.
Toshiba Win 8 upgrade assistant DOESNT install Win 8 system BUT ONLY Win 8 drivers/tools.

  • Upgrade to DDR2 800 RAM

This may be a silly question (for which apologies) but I did search and could not find an immediately obvious answer...in order to take advantage of the 800 Mhz FSB in the new iMacs, could I replace the DDR2 667 Mhz RAM modules with DDR 800 Mhz RAM modules in the current model iMac?

  • K9A Platinum and 4GB DDR2-800

I'm a major MSI fan and have been for a long time. My computers (even my customer's) are MSI boards.
Recently, I upgraded my motherboard, ram and processor to the new AM2 core (ok, not really new, but w/e). I have the following items:
    MSI K9A Platinum
    4GB DDR2 800 (2x2GB) G.Skill 5-5-5-15
    Athlon X2 5200+ Windsor 65w w/2x1MB cache
    2x ATI Radeon x1650 256 DDR2 (Crossfire'd)
    1x 200GB SATA2
    1x 300GB SATA2
    2x 500GB SATA2
    My previous system had:
    MSI K8N Neo-4F
    4x 1GB Kingston DDR 400
    Athlon X2 4800+
    Ok. So heres my problem:
I installed each 2GB stick into slot 1 to verify they work and I got all 2GB. Shut down and installed each 2GB at each channel (DIMM1 and DIMM3) and BIOS reports 2544MB total. I look in BIOS and it says Physical Memory = 4096MB, Usable Memory = 2544MB. (This is before I even installed windows.) So, I tried to see if windows would report differently and after installing, it reported the same 2.48GB of ram. Now I know that Windows 32-bit can only go up to 3.2GB and I have no problem with that. My previous setup reported all 4GB of ram... so whats different about this board that it doesn't use all the memory available?
If this is an issue with the Processor, then let me know. I paid for 4GB, not 2.5GB. I expected at most 3.2GB.
And no. I won't go Vista. And Windows x64 has little to no support for a lot of what I do/have. So I won't use it either.
Thanks for your help in advance.

    @ BOSSKILLER:
I've done the single and dual vga test. I even placed the ram in single channel mode and it did the same.
    @ Bas:
Its default. I'll paste it here.
    Code: [Select]

  • DDR2-800 on MacBook 5,2 (Early 2009)

    Hi,
I just installed 4 GB of DDR2-800 RAM even though the manual says I have to install DDR2-667.
I heard a lot that Apple limits otherwise capable hardware to reject upgrade options different to those specified in the manual.
Will the computer rebel against it? What can I expect?

    Hi stedman1,
Like I said, the computer does start-up, recognizes the memory as DDR2-800 and passed the Apple Hardware Test extended test.
My question is: Will it cease to work after some time? Will it work more slowly than when I had the 667's in?
I was hoping to get a little performance boost because of the 1066 MB/s difference in peak transfer rate between the two...

  • Upgrade Satellite 1800-400 from ME to XP Pro ??

Anybody managed a satisfactory upgrade of a Satellite 1800-400 or similar (384MB RAM, 20GB HD, 800 MHz Celeron)from Win ME?
Would prefer to Upgrade to XP Pro, but clean install 2nd choice.
If I format HD for clean install, would an Upgrade version of XP recognise the Toshiba recovery CD as a legit copy of ME - I heard there may be problems?
I intend to upgrade BIOS and collect all available Drivers for this model offered by Toshiba for XP, but will there still be problems with any of the hardware?
Do the Toshiba Drivers need to be loaded in a special order, and is that during or after the XP install?
Is XP likely to be faster/slower/about the same as ME, with above hardware specification??
Any advice welcome, as I haven't upgraded operating system on a laptop before, and the potential problems seem greater than with desktops.
    Geoff

    Hi
I dont see any reason why WXP should not work on your unit properly. On this forum I have read many topics where users reports about WXP on older units as yours.
Please check Toshiba download page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp and there you will find drivers for WXP.
After WXP installation install display and sound driver at first. After that install other hardware drivers. The next step is Toshiba stuff installation:
    Common modules
    Controls
    Power saver
    Utilities.
It is important to install common modules as first.

  • Can 915G Combo support DDR2-800 ?

    Hey ~~every1
My Motherboard is 915G Combo MS-7058 BIOS ver 1.6 which support both DDR1 & DDR2. Now i just consider to upgrade DDR2 Module. Can My Motherboard support the latest DDR2 667 or 800 ? There is a news that Infineon will start to produce DDR2-800 in June that 512MB DDR2-800 will be price at $93.
    Here is Comp Spec
    MSI 915G Combo MS-7058 BIOS ver 1.6
    LGA775 Intel 540 Pentium 4 3.2Ghz
    Kingston 512MB DDR400(Single Channel)
    40 HDD Samsung (PATA-Spinpoint)
    SW-252B Samsung Writer
    Prolink V.92 Modem
    PowerSupply 480W (20 Pin)

The ram should run OK, just not at it's maximum speed. For you CPU the optimum speed is DDR400.
I have my doubts that DDR2 800 will be available for under $100, but I have been wrong before
Do you intend on buying two sticks or one? If only one, stick with what you have now. If two I think you need to decide if what you are purchasing will perform any better than buying for more stick of DDR 400. Performance wise I don't think so.

    Hi
You can use max 4GB RAM. This means that you can use 2 x 2GB DDR2 RAM (800 MHz) memory modules.
