Upgrade steps for ACE 4710

Hi Everyone
We will be upgrading our ACE 4710s from A3(2.2) to A4(1.0). We have a pair in high availability mode. Has anyone here got any tips on how we can get a smooth upgrade without downtime? Is this even possible?

Of course it is possible to upgrade with no downtime!
However it is always recommended to schedule the upgrade in a maintenance window to minimize the impact in case of any issues.

I find in fact the best would be the following:
1. Upgrade the stand by module first.
2. Once reloaded, switchover to the standby and verify all services working correctly.
3.Upgrade the new stand by module.
4. Eventually switch over again to restore the active box as per the original configuration.
By doing this, if for some reason the first switchover at point 2. would not work, you can switch back to a safe scenario which you are sure to work.

Upgrading Oracle Applications Rel 11i manual page 4-2 lists three upgrade steps for Oracle Common Modules.
Step 1: Delete all AK data for Production 16 Global Demo databases (conditionally required)
Step 2: Check for invalid AK data in non-Global Demo databases (condionally required)
Step 3: Fix invalid data in non-Global Demo databases (conditionally required)
My Questions:
1. What is AK data?
2. What is the difference between a Global Demo database and a non-Global Demo database?
3. Does the AutoUpgrade utility migrate the data from the Global Demo and non-Global Demo databases to the Vision database?

Upgrading ACE 4710 & Licensing

Hello
We have two pairs of ACE 4710s, one pair running A3(2.4) and the other pair A3(2.0). We plan to upgarde the second pair so that they are running the same image as the first pair (we know they are not the latest, but this is the first step in a larger rollout plan, and to aid some troublshooting for a major issue we are seeing.)
I have details of the upgrade steps, but my question is with regards to the licenses which are now enforced after (2.0). We currently have the following on the first pair, but are these part of the default licenses for (2.4) or would we need to purchase these as well?

According to the release notes, the default with the ACE running A3 is :
•Performance: 1 gigabit per second (Gbps) appliance throughput
•Virtualization: 1 admin context and 5 user contexts
•Secure Sockets Layer (SSL): 100 transactions per second (TPS)
•Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) compression: 100 megabits per second (Mbps)
so you don't have to purchase anything

Cannot Telnet to ACE 4710 after upgrade to A4(2.3)

I have a pair of ACE 4710s with 12 contexts sharing the load, running A4(2.1). Yesterday I upgraded one of them to A4(2.3)
now I cannot telnet to the Admin context.Pings ok. I can telnet to other contexts on the box and everything seems to be working ok
when i do a " sh telnet"
comes back with
No Session Information is available
sh telnet maxsessions
telnet maxsessions 16
Can anybody help?

further this post, it was not a resource problem as had allocated 5% for the Admin context.
I up graded IOS Saturday evening, could not Telnet in, tried again on Sunday same result,
though this morning (Monday) Can now telnet in ok very strange
I was connecting via the AUX line of a 2851 router to the console port.
whe I disconnected this morning I saw the following message
INIT: id "T0" respawning too fast : disabled for 5 minutes
not sure if this is a 2851 message or an ACE message, but after getting that message is when I was able to Telnet in
was it a coincidence

ACE 4710 upgrading software problem

I logged into ACE 4710 to upgrade the image to c4710ace-mz.A1_8_0.bin. I logged in with Admin status and I got the following message, "
ACE4710/Admin# delete image:c4710ace-mz.3.0.0_A1_7a.bin
delete: cannot remove 'c4710ace-mz.3.0.0_A1_7a.bin': Permission denied"
Is this a bug? Is there a workaround? Thank you.

I am getting the same message again when i tried to delete an image and put a new image on.

ACE 4710 in failover - ssl offload, cert for second ACE

Hi,
I'm testing two ACE 4710 appliances that should work in active/standby mode and do ssl offload in bridged mode.
At the moment I have configured one of the devices to do basic load balancing (without ssl offload).
Now I would like to move further and configure ssl offload and configure High availability.
I read that the certificate for ssl can be localy generated on the ACE device but I couldn't find any information regarding the cert that should be used on the second ACE.
Should I generate a new cert od the standby unit or somehow use the one on the first ACE?
Is it better to first set up high availability and then configure ssl offload or vice versa?
Does anyone have a config example of ssl offload and active/standby configuration?

You simply need to generate keys & CSR on the primary ACE. Export the Keys from Primary ACE, Import these keys to Standby ACE and once you recieve the certs from CA then simply import the cert to both ACEs.
FOllowing will be steps to achive that
On primary Ace
1. create RSA Keys
crypto generate key 2048 app1.key
2. Create CSR & send it to CA
ace/Admin(config)# crypto csr-params app1-csr
ace/Admin(config-csr-params)# common-name www.app1.com
ace/Admin(config-csr-params)# country US
ace/Admin(config-csr-params)# email [email protected]
ace/Admin(config-csr-params)# locality xyz
ace/Admin(config-csr-params)# organization-name xyz
ace/Admin(config-csr-params)# organization-unit xyz
ace/Admin(config-csr-params)# state CA
ace/Admin(config-csr-params)# serial-number 1234
ace/Admin(config-csr-params)# end
ace/Admin(config)# crypto generate csr app1-csr app1.key
(copy the result to a file)
4. Import certificate recieved from CA
crypto import terminal app1.cert
(pasted the content from the cert)
5. verify the cert & keys match
crypto verify app1.key app1.cert
6. Export the keys from Active
crypto export app1.key
(copy the result to a file)
ON Standby ACE:
1. Import the keys
crypto import terminal app1.key
2. Import the cert
crypto import terminal app1.cert
3.verify the cert & keys match
crypto verify app1.key app1.cert

We have one requirement from our client like "Upgrade the Database from 9.2.0.8 to 11.2.0.3". They are asking only the DB upgrade except Application.
Our Current Database is running in Solaris OS and DB is an 9.2.0.8 and Application is an 11.5.10.2.

Kindly suggest me what are the details i have to collect and check in my Current Database or provide any proper Oracle documents for the Database Pre-Upgrade Process.

We would suggest you advice your customer to upgrade to 11.2.0.4 instead on 11.2.0.3

I've encountered issue during installation of SP1 to SQL Server 2012. After upgrade I'm getting this error in Event Log:
Script level upgrade for database 'master' failed because upgrade step 'msdb110_upgrade.sql' encountered error 537, state 3, severity 16. This is a serious error condition which might interfere with regular operation and the database will be taken offline.
If the error happened during upgrade of the 'master' database, it will prevent the entire SQL Server instance from starting. Examine the previous errorlog entries for errors, take the appropriate corrective actions and re-start the database so that the script
upgrade steps run to completion.
Can someone point me direction how I can fix it? This is a production server and currently only way to make it working is to use T902 flag in SQL Server startup params. I've found some suggestions to check Data path if it exists but it does so this is not
the issue here. Any ideas?

Before sending my message I've searched update script for "FROM master.sys.master_files" and I found script which you are showing me. I've made some digging and when I runned:
       SELECT physical_name
       FROM master.sys.master_files
       WHERE (name = N'master')
it returned also path to one my customers database name which has filename set correctly but it's Logical DB name is master and mastlog. I'm running shared hosting company and I allow my customers to restore their DBs from .bak files but I have no idea why
this customers logical name is set to master and mastlog. Probably when I change this names update script will work as it should. On the other hand in my opinion there should be some kind of fail safe mechanism for situations like this one.
EDIT: After changing logical name for DB and log for mentioned DB your script runned fine so probably now when I remove T902 flag and restart my SQL Server update will run correctly. Big thanks for resolving this issue.

Do you just want to convert PO's or all open items such as AP invoices etc.? If you are just talking PO information, there is an interface table available in 11.5.10 that was not available in 11.0.3 to convert PO information. Please look at the Open Interface Manual for Manufacturing to get details.

Currently you have only basic network configuration, there is no loadbalancing config

I would really appreciate if I can know the steps for GRC upgarde to 5.3 from 5.2. The only components we use are CC and firefighter.
