Is there any way to upgrade the processor speed and/or graphics card?
i would like to upgrade the processor and/or graphics card to make gameplay faster, having problems with speed when having game open and web browser at the same time on two screens.
is there a way to upgrade the ram on the mac mini (with disk drive) so 2009 ish, that would greatly help me? Aside from the obvious "buy a new one".

I need a new 15" MBP for film editing. The processor speed numbers are confusing.
The Tech Specs for the MBPr are here:http://www.apple.com/macbook-pro/specs-retina/ and you can see both 15" models come with the i7 processor, one at 2.0 and the other at 2.3 GHz. The processors are identical except for the clock speed, which directly indicates how many calculations a second they can perform. If you are doing things like editing or rendering or ray tracing, heavy duty computational things, the faster the processor, the less time it takes to do the task.
But the 2.3 GHz machine has even more, twice the memory and twice the storage capacity. With film work that will get to be important since you can load more directly into memory where it is readily accessible to the processor, and twice the storage so you do not have to move material to an external drive so soon. Both of which will contribute to faster workload turn around for you.
For your needs, the faster machine with twice the memory and twice the SSD storage will be the thing you need. And, keep in mind that the MBP cannot be upgraded after purchase like in the past. So get all you will need now at the time of purchase. -
I have a CQ60-214dx laptop. I would like to upgrade the processor in it to something else. I have read on the Internet that it is possible to swap out the processor as long as you find the right socket, wattage, etc. processor. Is there a list out there of what is compatible with the laptop I have? I was hoping to find a processor that would take it from a dual core machine to a core2duo machine. Thanks for any info you can give me!

View Solution.Hi:
According to the specs page for your notebook it comes with a Pentium T3400 processor.
According to the service manual, link below, in Chapter 1, on page 1-1, it lists all supported processors that can be installed in your machine.
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02985882.pdf
That means you can go from your little ol' T3400 processor, all the way up to the mighty T9600 if you want to.
You are 100% correct about needing to know the particulars about the processor's FSB speed, L2 cache, lithography, etc.
Apparently notebook PC's have a much wider range of processors one can install. In a desktop for example, rarely do you get such latitude.
In any event, the only thing you need to check for you PC, is the BIOS release notes to see if any are required to support a faster or newer processor.
I've taken the liberty of doing that for you and note that no BIOS updates are necessary to install any of the supported Intel processors listed for you notebook.
There is one other tool I like to use and that is the Intel Processor Comparison tool.
Here is a sample of comparisons for you to review for proessors that would work in your notebook.
http://ark.intel.com/compare/35581,35568,35563,35583
I am surprised that your notebook can handle processors from 2 different code names.
I also don't like that the sockets supported are not named exactly the same. I googled the difference and it doesn't appear to matter.
However, it should have either the GM or PM 45 chipset which supports any of those Pentium processors listed in the manual.
http://ark.intel.com/products/chipsets/35509#compatibility
I believe the GL40 chipset is for celeron processors only.
So, that is basically it in a nutshell. You should be able to upgrade to any of the Pentium processors listed.

Upgrading the processor on an A215-S4747
I've had my Satellite A215-S4747 for about two years now and I've been loving it. Still, its age is starting to show, so I'd like to upgrade the processor.
It's running a 1.8 GHz AMD Turion 64 x2 (TL-56). I figure I can probably upgrade it to a 2.4 GHz TL-68, but I'd like to know what other series of processors I might be able to upgrade it to. It's a Socket S1, and my motherboard has an ATI RS690/RS690M (REV 0) chipset and an ATI SB600 southbridge.
Here is the CPU-Z output on my computer.
So the question is, what series and models of processors might I be able to upgrade to? What other AMD processor families conform to Socket S1? Considering my chipset, would I likely be able to upgrade to a processor with a larger L2 cache and/or FSB speed?
I'm working doing the same thing with an Intel laptop I have, and intel's ark.intel.com site is an awesome resource for researching processor compatibility. Does anyone know if AMD has a similar site?
I expect I'll need to update my BIOS as well. Does anyone know where I can download the latest BIOS update for this motherboard?
Thanks!
LukeHi:
Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02542472.pdf
Supported processors are listed in chapter 1 on page 1.
I would imagine the one that offers the best improvement over your current processor would be the N930.
Check the BIOS release notes to see if a BIOS update is needed before installing another processor.

Is it possible to upgrade the processor for my HP Pavilion g6-2244sa?
Hi everyone, i'm just curious as to whether or not I can upgrade the processor in my HP Pavilion g6-2244sa. It currently has the AMD E2-1800 APU (@1.70ghz, dual core) installed. It also has 8gb DDR3 RAM.
The laptop is awesome, it has a decent graphics card and can even play Skyrim on good settings. The only problem is that the processor isn't really up to scratch and games suffer from minor lag. I was curious as to whether or not it is possible to install a different processor such as the AMD E4 (@2.5ghz, dual core). I've seen other versions of the very same laptop with that processor installed.
Thanks!Hi,
The following manual shows a list of processors supported:

How can I check what the processor speed is
We have an old white dome base iMac, running OSX 10.1 How can I check the processor speed - it is not available to choose in the 'about this Mac' dropdown?
Turns out it is a mind blowing 40 MHz!
Something read wrong. The slowest FP iMac was 700mHz.
While in OSX, can you see if 10.1 has its own version of System Profiler? In newer OSX versions it's in Applications >Utilties.
I jumped from OS9 to 10.2 so, like Eustace, can't remember what 10.1 has--or doesn't have.
You can look dor the sticker/decal with the serial number. That usually gives the processor speed also:

Can you upgrade the processor in a Presario CQ62-210us
I just bought a compaq presario cq62-210us, and I didn't realize that it had a single core celeron 900 processor, so what I was wondering is if it is possible to upgrade to a dual core processor.
I know that it is hard to upgrade the processor on laptops, but is there a specific chip that would fit in this model? If not, then is there a simuilar model that has the same internal configuration, that I could just switch the processor with the model I currently have?
Thank you. Please post your full product Number

I have a late 2009 Macbook Unibody and was curious about upgrading the processor. I just installed 8gigs of ram and was thinking about just trying to make it really fast. I am always in Adobe CS5.5 for my job and want my computer to be as fast as I can make it. Is it possible to install a new processor and is it worth it??
ThanksNo, the processor and the video card are integrated into the logic board.

I recently tried to upgrade the processor of my HP dv6700. I upgraded to an Intel T7500 and after reassembling the laptop and trying to power it up, the laptop shuts down after 1 second. The computer turns on, the fan makes a brief noise, and then the machine shuts down. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Hey, did you apply thermal paste to the new CPU? It may be shutting down because none of the heat it getting blown out by the fan. The thermal paste is a conductor of heat to allow it to be transferred to the copper which will get blown out of the laptop by the fan.
I also have a DV6700. May I ask how a motherboard melts down? I have had absolutely no problems with my laptop, and I've had it for 5-6 years. -
Apple just upgraded the processor for new iPad
I've just noticed that apple has upgraded the processor for the new ipad( not ipad mini)!
Now I feel like an idiot buying the new ipad when it came out...badg3rz wrote:
I just noticed this morning the Ipad with Retina Display. I just bought the "NEW IPAD" only 6 weeks ago.
Now I feel ripped off and cheated, paying the same high price for something that isn't worth the price I paid for it.
Where do I send my "new" (old) iPad for a replacement?
If Apple don't honor people with the "New" iPad for a replacement with the iPad with Retina Display, then they lost me and my family for a future customers.
Nobody really cares if Apple loses you as a customer. For every one they "lose", they get 100 new ones. You will not be missed. -
Stupid question, is there anyway to increase the processor speed?
i have been using my computer since november 2000, then i decided to get an ipod touch and so i had to install usb 2.0, a new HD, and some additional SDRAM. I know that conventionally there are limits to the amount of SDRAM that will get recognized, and stuff, but is there any way to increase the processor speed aka the MHZ of my computer that would be easier and more cost effective than just buying a new one?
In addition to Tom's good advice, there's a chap on eBay who modifies CPUs for AGP models who goes by the eBay name of 'ijnuhb'. I've never used any of his mods, but he's been around a while and I've corresponded with him. Seems reliable.

I don't always have luck with links, but here's a go at it.
